ASP Force Download Of File From Webserver
I am creating an asp application which is essentially a file management app. I am trying to get my head around a technically issue wonder if someone can offer some help.
I want to be able to force the download of the files are attached to a particular record.
The code which i use to force the download is:
<%
strPath = "C:MyFiles"
Set Upload = Server.CreateObject("Persits.Upload")
' Build path to file
strPath = uploadfilepathactual
Path = strPath & "" & strFileName
Upload.SendBinary Path, True, "application/octet-binary", True
%>
I want to be able to change the path to say something like
strPath = servernamec$myfiles
Is the above possible. Any other alternatives.

Force Download Of .pdf Files
The below code forces a prompt to the user to open or save the .pdf file file to their local machine. It seems to work great except I have one user who can not open any .pdfs using this prompting method. He gets an error that says "File could not be found". However, if we choose the 'save' option instead, we can save the file to his local machine. He can open .pdf files from normal links to .pdf files. It's just this prompting method that is causing a problem. So, I'm perplexed. I did some digging and found that there is also an FSO (File System Object) method (which may or may not solve my problem), but I'm not sure how to impliment the FSO or if that will even help me with this.

How To Avoid Downloading A File Directly From Webserver ?
I need to provide a way to download a software and its corresponding manual from a web page. So far I have done the sign in page where people give their data. I will then give access to a page with a link allowing to download the required file(s). My worry is how to avoid that somebody grabs the URL of the file and send it to another for downloading directly from the server. What can I do to avoid this ?
How Do I Install A MSI File From Webserver On The Client Machine.
I have a web server running on a machine. When the users connect to that machine, it loads the ASP page. The ASP page has a ActiveX control on it and it gets downloaded to the client's machine. I have made the control as a signed control so there is no problem in download. Likewise, in the virtual directory path on the server, I have one clientsettings.MSI and that needs to be run on the server. Whenever the user tries to connect to the web page, in onload event of the web page, the .MSI file should be installed on the clients machine. For this to happen what all needs to be done ?
File Download Box

Why does sendMail.asp give a "File Download" box instead of just executing?

File Download Dialog Box
I have coded a file upload process in ASP and the current way I allow files to be downloaded, which have been uploaded is by using the <a href> tag. This works but it normally opens the files for the user in a new browser window. What I would like to do is present the user with a download link which opens the Windows File Download dialog box. I thought there might be an easy way to do this kind of like HTML provides for uploading a file… which is the input type=file (presents the user with the browse button). How Do I Use ASP To Download A File That Has Particular Ntfs Permissions
I'm trying to write a script that will allow validated users to download a file that has specific ntfs permissions. Here's a summary: Scenario: 1) The name of the file is "binary.zip". 2) I've created a local account on the server called "dl_user". 3) dl_user is the only account that has permissions on binary.zip. 4) I've written a script that validates several people to access a web page that has a link to binary.zip. However whenever they click it, they get prompted for a username and pw. If they enter the "dl_user" credentials, it works. Problem: I don't want these people to be prompted for the username and pw. Instead, I'd like IIS, through some ASP mechanism, to pass the dl_user credentials in the background so that the users are completely unaware of the account that has NTFS permissions to the file. Is there any way to do this?

Knowing When A File Download Is Complete
I have a requirement to record in a database when a file is finished downloading to the end-user. Currently when a user clicks a download icon for a file it directs to an ASP page that records the "hit" into a database, then I use a response.redirect "filename.exe" to point the user to the download. What I'm missing is knowing when the download is complete so I can update the database to show the file successfully completed its download. Is there a way to do this with ASP? A way to do this with an aftermarket component?
