Is there anyway I can check to see if a server is online in my network with an if statement saying if online response.write "Online" else response.write "Offline"?

Status Of ASP .NET
I'm looking at C# and ASP .NET these days. Visual Sudio 2005 looks like a neat dev. env. But before committing, I would like to know more about the current status of these tools. I noticed, that my site hoster does not support ASP at all. And more providers do not... PHP however, IS supported a lot, but does not have anything like .NET facilities, does it? What is the status of the language wars these days? ASP is still the way to go? What is the market doing?
Status Information
I'm have a page which requires considerable database processing before writing the results to the page. I therefore wish to have a "Please wait message" up on the screen whilst the main page is processed. I've tried Response.redirect hoping that the previous page will stay until all processing on th main page is complete and id drawn but this is not the case.
Server Status
I want to offer on our organisations intranet a support site for our webmasters, one of the features I'd like to add is a server status page. Currently webmasters use MS Frontpage to connect from their local PC to our development servers, work on their sites, then publish from there to our live servers.I have found an ASP component that can PING a server(s) however whilst normally this would be the ideal solution, are organisations firewall currently has PING blocked, I have spoken to the person resonsible for the firewall in the hope that he maybe able to unblock it for specific servers within our organsations, thus allowing me to check whether the servers are up or down, but I expect the 'block' is probably a blanket block, ie all or nothing, so its probably unlikely it'll be changed.how I could check using ASP whether or not its possible to talk to another server without using PING?
Displaying Status
I am wondering if this is possible. I have an ASP page that calls a stored procedure (MSSQL). I want to display the status on the ASP page as each process is executed on the Stored Procedure and ASP page. For example, when I connect to the database, show the user that a connection has been made or in the stored procedure when some tables are updated to show that.

How To Track Iis Generated Email Status
i've got a client that wants to be able to review records about IIS generated emails. in his own words, he wants the "ability to track and report message status (i.e. how many messages were sent successfully, how many were blocked, how many bounced back with an incorrect address)" i'd start by adding a new row containing the email address, dateTime, etc when first sending the email, but how to track the rest of the info? for instance, if an email bounces back, does it bounce back to IIS or to the "from" email address? what about the blocked (i.e. spam filter) emails? is there a way to track blocked email? since most spam filters don't generate response emails, there's not much i can really do about this, is there? this will be run off an IIS6 server. can anybody tell me my options?
Designing Of Online Status Indicator
I have some experience in asp coding and we have a nice "Help Desk" portal in our company. The only thing it's missing is an online indicator, where people can see online availability of other co-workers and so on. I want to keep the portal simple as possible. We are using MsSQL as database. There are about 10 users who are going to use the online indicator. Login is integrated in AD / LDAP. I just dont know where to start making of the online indicator?
HTTP Status Code 400 W Redirect
I used a Response.Redirect "page.asp" as the last command in ASP code that processes a submitted form from an Adobe PDF form (using HTML format). For some reason, if there is any linked file (image, stylesheet, javascript) in the target "page.asp" IE hangs until you press Escape. With Refresh, the page loads completely. I checked the web log and the entry for "page.asp" is 200 (OK) but all the files I mentioned above all show 400. The description for this status code is pretty generic and not much help (a syntax error in the request and the server doesn't understand it I can't control the syntax of the request so how can this be fixed? (and how could the submit from the PDF form have anything to do with this since other HTML forms directed to an ASP page with images etc. works fine.
Get .Send Status In CDONTS Or CDOSYS

Send Email Upon Project Status Update
Currently have a change request process. Requestor completes a form which populates a db, sends an email to a project manager, and lists the project in a master list. The project manager asigns open, in review, rejected, or closed based on criteria. Is there a way to automatically send an email to teh requestor when teh status of teh request changes?
MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP Returning Status 500 When Accessing Webservice
The following shows when I call it locally. If you look at the URL that has http://localhost, this is the one I use when I call the ASP page from the same local server (self contained). When I want to call the remote server (the one that fails) I use the other URL has http://remote. I hope this helps.. Because the webservice is the same on both machines and I'm calling both machines the same, what would cause the remote machine to return that the Request form not recognized?

I have come up against a very strange error, well one I havnt got before - and was wondering is there a way around this. In my mysql db i have a price field which is set as "decimal(10,2)" but when I try read from it through my asp page I get this error at the line where i do my recordset query: Microsoft Cursor Engine (0x80040E21) Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value. If I change the field type to "Integer(10)" its fine, it just doesnt like the decimal for some reason . And the thing thats really throwing me off is when I write the sql string doing the query out to the page and copy it into my mysql browser and run it, it comes back fine with all the data and no error.

i got an asp project, current done the phase one, is a web application over the internet. phase 2 the client need us to do a add on application to previous web application. but can only access with their own network. that mean they want some portion of the application to be over the internet, and some portion of their application can be access by their own network only. so what do i need to do to make my system to know the station accessing the application currently is within own network or from other network?

I need to know if its possible to create an ASP page that when requested will display the network id of the requester. Most people have told me to query the request.servervariables("LOGON_USER"). But this will get me the login of the server and not the client. In our situation we do not want to have our users login twice (once to their machine (the client) and then again to the server (the one that serves the asp page). I am trying to write a file of emails to my mail server for a newsletter.The emails come from a form on a website and append the file.However I can not accomplish this.I have tried mapping the a network drive.Then writing to the file with the path "U://subscrib.txt" using the filesys obj. This did not work and I am unsure why.I could not add the internet user to the permissions on the mail server because its not the same machine.

FSO Network Drive
I have a mapped drive on my intranet web server to my internet web server. When I iterate through the drives collection on my intranet site, my mapped drive does not show up. Is there anyway I can get to this drive to read a small set of known files? I don't really want to have to create a virtual folder on the internet web server and move the files in question to it so that my intranet server can get to them.
Capturing Network LAN ID
I'm having a bit of a problem trying to capture a users LAN ID from the network. Currently I have an activex component that does it for me and I use Javascript to display/capture. Which was fine prior to the DDA guidelines. Now I need to find a way to do so without using JavaScript. The first thing I tried was to use the Servervariables available but unfortunatly our servers use annonymous authentication, so I can't use that method. I've even tried but had no joy accessing Active Directory for the LAN ID, so I'm currently left scratching my head. Does anyone know of a way I can acheive this?

i would map a network drive from a share on another server. it works fine with the net use command under user login but it do not work from an asp script or dll. is this that i have to add the iuser_<computer_name> profile into network computer that share it resources?

when i try to use request.servervariable(login_user) it returns empty in asp. i created a dll in vb using the apigetusername . when testing this in vb , it retruns the network login id. But in asp it returns the servername where the asp is running.

Using FileSystemObject To Write Across The Network
I've got a web page that I need to have write to another server across the network. The site in question does NOT run in anonymous mode, that is, the user is presented with a username/password box when they view the page. No matter what I do, when the page attempts to access the remote server, I get a Permission Denied error. I have tried the suggestion from this page: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...&NoWebContent=1 As a baseline, I created a blank, normal, anonymous access web on the same machine. I did as described in the article above. I tried resetting the password for IUSR_computername, and setting the anonymous password in the metabase to match. I created the IUSR_computername account on the remote server with the same password, and gave it log on locally rights. I even tried giving IUSR_computername administrator access, on both servers. No matter what I did, it failed with Permission Denied. The *only* thing that got it to work was telling the web site to use "administrator" for anonymous access instead of IUSR_computername. This worked fine - but isn't really very safe. I'm at a complete loss. What I WANT to do is to not run the site with anonymous access at all, which means I can't even specify the account used for anonymous access. Trying this, and typing in the administrator username and password when viewing the web page also gets the familiar "Permission Denied." My simple code is below: Code:
SRV2003, ASP And Network Drives
I have an ASP app that calls an object on the web server which goes out to a mapped network drive to retrieve a file from a W2K file server. My current web server is a W2K. The share on the file server as well as the NTFS permissions on the server are wide open (Everyone Full Control) but still require me to run the web server under an account other than the IUSR account for the object to be able to access the file. None the less, it works fine. However, when I run this same app on a W2K3 server, it can not access the file from the exact same location. Seems to me I need to tell the web server at a different level what account to run at or something. It doesn't appear that the W2K3 web server's account has permission to access the file despite the fact I am using the same account as the W2K. Anyone have any ideas? The goal is to get the W2K3 web server to successfully access a remote file on a W2K file server without any permissions problems. Again, the share and NTFS on the file server are wide open.

Printing To A Network Printer
I have a string of text that needs to be sent verbatim to a printer. The text string is generated via ASP. I can't simply print from a client mahcine on our intranet through internet explorer to the printer as the IE headers and other formatting gunk cause problems. I want to set it up to print the data server-side to the printer. That avoids people trying to send the data to the wrong printer, etc. Of course, the printer in question is a shared printer connected to a machine in a different office (It's a tag printer, is very loud, and is essentially being put somewhere where we won't have to listen to it). I can't find a way to get this setup to work. Does anyone have any ideas?
Network Connection Problem
Currently i have a server(server A) that hosted a web application to allow registered member to upload file into the server using Huge ASP Upload(3rd party component). everything working fine. What i need to change is ASP pages still host under the same server but the file to be upload will be upload into new server(server B). My server A and server B no connection in between of this 2 server. Is it possible to be done?
