[CS3] Purchase And Place Help
Latley I've been trying to make some sort of game that involves buying items and placing them somewhere in a room. Specifically, I wanted a game similar to the sims where you buy furniture and place it in your room, or a resturant game where you buy tables and what not to put in your resturant.

I have quite a bit of Actionscript 2.0 experience: I know variables and if statements.

Are there any tutorials out there for this? If not, does anyone know what coding I would use and what i would apply it to; what coding the frame needs, the purchase button needs, and the item needs when you are placing it. I hope I gave a detailed explanation (lol ).

Can I ALSO make all of this just using Flash MX 2004 and Adobe ImageReady?

Finally, is it worth shelling out the extra cash to get Flash MX 2004 Professional rather than Flash MX 2004 FOR creating a flash just like the ones up top? Why/why not?

One Last Pre-Purchase Question
I've been trying to get help from the Adobe support #'s, but no one seems to have the answer for me.
Currently we're running 3 Flash Communication Servers on W2003. Each has it's own dedicated machine.
The way they're configured at present, when you call our flv script, it sends an rtmp call to our master server, which in turn chooses 1 of the 2 streamers to serve the content. This is all handled by an action script found in applicationscontroller named main.asc

From what I've read so far over the last few days, this is similar to the edge/origin solution, except we're not handling the load balancing thru a router, nor are we running the volume of traffic to justify that kind of an investment.

My other understanding is that the FMS setup is completely different from FCS, which leads me to my question should I plan to be able to reuse my current action script to handle my load balancing, or should I prepare myself for getting a new solution prepared?

Again, I'm new to all this, so your patience and assistance is greatly appreciated.

Looking To Purchase Portfolio Flash Component

How Do I Check If "any Of THIS Kind Of Object Collides With Any Of THAT Kind"?
Right now I have it set up VERY inefficiently --

I have 2 kinds of objects -- objA and objB, There are about 50 of each on screen at one time.

On every instance of objA, I run a while loop that checks collisions with EVERY instance of objB. 50x50 = 2500 of these processes in a single frame. I do this because flash forces me to refer to the objects by name, and even copies of a single object must have different names. There's gotta be a simpler way to do this.

Problems With A Purchase Order Form (urgent)

I have a "cost" and "buy" button in the catalogue that I've designed. The "cost" button is linked to the Excell sheet which contains cost of items. The "buy" button should be linked to the purchase order form.

Upgrade To Studio 8 Or Purchase Squeeze For Flash?
I am working on my first Flash site and using Flash MX 2004 which came with Studio MX 2004. In addition to several MP3 files, there are a couple of videos that I will incorporate that need to play back at 30 fps in a small window (190 pix x 142.5 appx) over a bitmap graphic and with very high quality audio. I have experimented with embedding the video using the built-in Spark Codec with fair results. I have a lot of experience making Sor 3 QT movies (2 pass VBR stuff) and Windows Media. My question is this - to improve the quality of the embedded video, should I upgrade to Studio 8 (about $500) or purchase Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 for Flash MX ($119)? As I am fairly far into learning (basic) Flash MX 2004 via the Flash Bible, I prefer not to do the upgrade yet (not to mention the cost). I have a short turnaround on this project. Please advise./BC

I've always done my design work, (flash, photoshop, html coding, illustrator) and all other work on regular old desktops, so I know JACK about laptops.

And actually, since I rarely buy my own computer, (just let the employer pick out something that's way powerful) I find myself baffled when looking at laptops now.

As a flash/photoshop designer, can you give me some things to look for on a laptop? I know I want a big hard drive and lots of ram, and that's where my knowledge ends.

Should i look at processors? What's the latest thing? Centrino? What's DDRAM versus SDRAM and should I care?

Testing FLV With FMS On My Laptop
Hello All:

I am trying to test out a Flash Lite 3 application with streaming FLV. It's the basic NetConnection / NetStream, etc. connection type of application that loads and streams an FLV hosted on FMS on the same computer as CS4 and device central. The application works great when I point the NetConnection at localhost (nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/live/...")) and run it via the Test Movie option in Device Central. However, I cannot get the same SWF to load and stream the FLV when the SWF runs on my Nokia 5800 (or any other Flash Lite 3 capable) device. I am setting the IP address of the FLV URL in the application to that of my laptop on my WLAN, and connecting the phone to the same WiFi network, but it never connects.

Does anyone have any good tips on how to test on a real device without accessing a public server / hosted FLV solution?

Moving Flash To Laptop
I'm sorry if someone has already answered my question from late September. I had a bisiness trip and didn't get the answer before I left, and now it's gone from the forums.

I need to get flash onto my laptop to take with me to a business meeting.But when I ty it says the lieence has expired or something like that. ( I did in he past download the trail vesion) before I bought Flash. I now have Flash on My iMac G5 and want to get it onto my Powerbook. Any suggestions? Short of buying another copy.

FMS Cell Phone To Laptop
I've been doing Flash / Flex / Apollo for awhile now, but I want to develop an application where a cell phone can communicate directly with a laptop on a wireless card. Ibook & G4 Tit Laptop Flash Problems?
anyone else experiencing problems with flash on new ibook and G4 titanium laptop??

browsers IE 5 and netscape 4.7 (never had a problem with these on a mac before)

i have no problems on my G4 desktop or on G3 laptop. but when i tested on the new mac laptops the other night, the site i'm working on wouldn't load up and the other flash sites i've built didn't function right???

panic for me. they behaved like they normally do on netscape 6 on a pc...

i'm using percentage load bar as a pre-loader for the main swf and the external swfs.

the code is different for the main and the external swfs.

what happens is the outline of the load bar shows up in the correct place in the window but the fill of the loadbar appears to the far left of the page and never loads and the movie doesn't begin.

i'm wondering if the getbytes preloader has anything to do with it.... but why would it work on some mac's and not others.....

IPAQ Control Of Flash On A Laptop
I have a client that would like me to create a Flash based presentation to be played on a laptop with a projector attached.

***Here is the part I am unsure of***

The client has seen people controling Powerpoint presentations with an IPAQ or the like and would like this Flash presentation to be controlled the same way. In other words, use the IPAQ to advance the presentation when needed.

I have no knowledge of Handhelds and how they work with other computers. Is this something that anyone has done or heard of anyone doing? Can it be done with Flash?

New Laptop: Activation Code: Worries...

Sorry if this isn't the correct forum area for this question, but the title seemed to fit best with my situation. So I'll just get to it...

I bought Flash MX 2004 Pro a while back and have it installed on my PC. I just received a new Laptop and would like have the program available on them both, so I can work on my projects while I'm away and while I'm at home. My problem is I don't know how to handle the activation code. I don't want to mess things up and have the program lock on both my systems. When I go to install the program on my Laptop, will it instruct me on how to go about handling an activation of a secondary system? I went to the Macromedia web site, but only found information on how to transfer the code from one system to another (meaning the old system would no longer be able to use the program, as the activation would then be moved to the new one).

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated...

Resolution For Fullscreen Widescreen Laptop?
Just wondering if someone can help me out...

I've gotta develop a fullscreen animation that will be run on a widescreen laptop. In the past, I've just created the stage for the movie @ 1024x768 and used

to stretch it fullscreen.

The problem is that on a widescreen laptop, this leaves empty 'bars' on the left & right sides of the screen (like a widescreen movie on a fullscreen TV).

Can I use

to scale this to fit a widescreen laptop properly? Or will it stretch everything out and make it look funny?

Or, can I just design the movie with a different stage size?

Flash MX Won't Install On My Vista Laptop
I am trying to install Flash MX 2004 on my laptop (ASUS G50-X1). It's running Vista 64-bit Home Premium with SP1. When I go to install Flash, an error message comes up saying "There is not enough space to install these option(s). Please free up some disk space or modify your selections."

I have tried running the installer as admin in compatibility mode for XP SP2.. nothing works. I would *REALLY* appreciate any help with this problem.

Installing Flash Mx Pro On Vista Laptop
I installed 7.0 version from the cd, which installed fine. But after I applied the 7.2 update the software installed but would not open. It gave a msg " Could not initiate the MLM process. Maybe activationlog.txt has a solution". I then tried the "hot fix" available on adobe site, but that too did not work. So I tried uninstalling and installing again. It uninstalled only after I applied "run as administrator" but then could not install again. Anybody have solutions, please. Thanks in advance. The adobe support have backed out saying that "Flash MX was already phased out"

Projector Plays Black On Laptop
Hi,

We're using Flash 8 on Win32 and created a projector from an .flv originally encoded from a QT movie. Works great on our machines, but when the client got it, the movie just stayed black.

Any ideas? I've uploaded a QT for him to use for now, which is alot bigger than the 1.6Mb of the projector.

To email it to him, I sent it in a zip file....is it simply perhaps that it got corrupted? Very new to Flash and projectors....

How Do I Install Flash Player On My Laptop
I have tried over and over to install flasher play 9 onto my mac but everytime I click to install it it starts installing, finishes and then diverts me to the Adobe homepage but all I get is Q's with questions marks inside them and it won't let me watch any videos. I only downloaded the bloody thing cause they said I should update it and now I'm getting nothing at all. I dont eevn know I have downloaded it? What do I do?
I didn't even know I had flash player in the first place to update. I have got a divx player, a relplayer and flip4mac installed does this affect me being able to install this flash player and did I even need it in the first place? How on earth do I do I fix this? All I want to do is watch macromedia flash videos off the net and now I can't watch anything. I know I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about and that's cause I don't.

Can't View Font On Laptop, But PC Is Fine

OT: Who Uses Laptop For Main Programming Machine?
I am looking for a bit of input on my next computer upgrade.  My current laptop is starting to follow the light and wander off to that obsolescent heap in the sky...so need a new one.

Anyone have information on some miminums that I would need for Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver?  I am asking here as I am mostly a Flash programmer, but since that means wearing multiple hats because bosses don't realize that they really should use a graphics person and a web person...I need to work all three.

Video....128? 256?  I am assuming 512 would be overkill for just the programming side?

Processor...Do I need to worry about the fastest thing on the market?  I am running a 1.73 on the laptop now, that's prolly fine for a long time?

Does AS3 and associated Flash version require any more processor demands or memory?

Best Laptop/notebook For Multimedia Development
I'm shopping for an ideal laptop on which to run Macromedia Director, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc. plus Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator I also do a lot of digital video editing. I'm looking at the Gateway 600X and the Dell Inspiron 8500 as the basic hardware (maxed out in the areas of speed, RAM, and HD storage space), but neither of these two notebooks have received more than mediocre reviews. Is there a better brand or model that I should be checking out?

Alpha States Showing Up On Laptop Screens?

I have done a search for this problem with no joy. I hope someone can help me here.
I have made several projects recently where i have elements that have 'alpha states' in them on the stage. For example, i have a row of buttons on one project where the first frame of the button symbol is a movie-clip [a rectangle] set to alpha=0%. The roll-over state brings the button up to 100%. Simple enough you would think...

However, for the last few days I have been looking at the movies on 2 different laptops and , horror of horrors!!, you can actaully SEE the alpha states on the stage! It's an appalling mess and I cannot explain to my client what on earth is going on.
This is very foreboding if it means that certain monitors and resolutions do not display alpha information properly.

Please!, someone enlighten me as to what is the problem??

Flash Movie Stops Playing On Laptop
I have a very basic flash movie in an html page. It does fine except on my client's wireless laptop where it stops about 1/3 of the way through. It does fine on his pc at the same time it stops on his laptop. Any suggestions as to what the problem is.

Flash Video Quality Running Off HD On Laptop
I want to produce a Flash with video that will run from a hard drive. It is an demo that will be only shown on the laptop. The screen size is 1024x768. Should I build the Flash at this 1024x768 size and insert my digital video (externally loaded) at 720x480 30fps or is this overkill and will I crash my laptop? Video quality is important.
