How do I make my button work as an email link using actionscript?

Basically I'm wanting the user to click the button and their mail programme comes up. (mailto: in HTML)

hi... I am trying to make a button that will open up the users mail program and send it to my email... I tried to make it but I got an error on my machine and on another machine nothing happened... here is the code I used...

also... can you use getURL to open files off of the hard drive, e.g.
getURL("c:somedirsomefile.ext"); ?

hi, could somebody tell me the actionscrip i have to put on the button so when i click the button for "email me" it automatically opens a persons email programe and puts my email in the address box, like a direct link to my email-if you know what i mean.

I used a get url with a www.blah blah@hotmail.com, but it just sends me to their log in page and not to where they can email me.

Is there an efficient way to do this and what is the script to use?

i have a question concerning the "link" button in an executable flash exe file. Usually we link button to open up another website, email etc. So how do i do it if my flash has to be an executable file.
That is, to link up with other website through this executable file and also to send email and very importantly, how to implement the "Quit" button where the flash file will close.

i'm doing a project whereby the dateline is looming very fast!

i'll appreciate very much if someone would help me on this.

Why Won't My Email Link Button Work (when Used On An HTML Page)?
I'm no Flash expert, but I've done this before. I even checked the code vs. a file I did recently that worked fine. All I want is a clickable email link, using getUrl and mailto:

Here's my code which is attached to a button -

Why won't it work no matter what I do? I checked the publish and actionscript settings - exactly the same as my old file that works.

UPDATE----- I figured out it must have something to do with the HTML or Javascript code being generated - the link works fine if I open just in the Flash player or in a browser without the HTML. I tried creating a page from scratch with Dreamweaver and embedding the .swf, but that yields the same result. I don't know Javascript enough to figure out why this isn't working.

I want to make some text an email link.

I've done this plenty of times in MX and am now using MX 2004 pro. The problem is when you click the link it doesn't work, won't even open the outlook express window!

I've tried making the text box html enabled, selecting the text and then add mailto:blahblah@blahblah - If I put "" around the email address like I've done before it makes the text disappear!

I've tried using a button as well with AS using onrelease getURL etc. Still won't do anything!

Am I just being thick or is it done differently in 2004 pro?!! Really bugging me now so any help appriciated. I've done a search but can't find anything neither.

HTML Formatted Email W/ Flash: Email Link Help
is there a way to put a mailto into a Flash that's embedded in an email without a browser window popping up when the user clicks on it.

The reply email works fine, but a browser window will open with the mailto in the URL and "Action Canceled" in the window. Not too pro looking.

Also, I found the Flash only plays in some email clients, when user views the email. I had to put a 'play' button on the first frame before the loader in case it doesn't play. I tried putting a "gotoAndPlay" but that didn't work either, took the loader out, even put the animation on the main timeline. Funky.

Told the client it's a bad idea, unpredictable, but they never listen to people that know what's up...

Email Link On Swf Doesn't Work In Embeded Email, Why?
I am working on a swf file (sort of an ad) for email distribution purpose, the swf has an email link on it for potential clients to reply to us.

I upload the swf on our server, embed the swf into an email, and send the email off to do a test, the animation is playing fine, but there is a problem, when i click on the email link, I receive the following error message:

"Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

And then the Outlook is closed down.

But this problem only happens on NT system, as while i click the same link from my XP, it instantly open up a new reply message fine, anyone has come across this problem and knows how to get around with it, could you help?

This is getting really confusing for me so I need some help! The issue is that I am developming a video player that a client would like to have an ability of users to send (email) the page to a freind, with a link back to that specific page. I have experience sending mail via PHP scripts, and the mailto: commands. Does anyone have any idea how this could be accomplished? I need some direction. Thanks Devon

I have made a button on my website and would like it to do the following:

When pressed it would open the users email client and put my email address in the "TO" box so they can send an email to me.

Sounds simple but I can't work out how to make this happen.
Is there a better way to do this?

i have made a small animation which has some text on screen.

when the email address is clicked i need to open the computers email client.

all the action scripts are ghosted and when i use the url get function at the botton of the character menu the link vanishes when i run the animation

iam using the following format:-

what should i use for an email link. when i try get url"mailto:drpsychedelic@hotmail.com" the default mail program opens ...yah.....but a browser window also opens to that address and of course its not found......how can i get just the email to open for the sender and not the browser window also ??????

I have created a simple flash program that consists of a round ball, with the words "Email Me" on it, and it bounces around the screen. I want to create an email link to a hotmail account that will be activated by the user clicking on the flash program. Does flash support this kind of thing? The reason I ask is because I put the code in that would usually create an email link, and it didn't work. I would really appreciate someone giving me the code, or at least telling me why it didn't work.

I want to know how I can have my text (i.e. fow@hotmail.com) when clicked on, automatically open up their mail sever and have my name appear instantlly to send me mail.
