[F8] Image Quality

I have an image of resolution 1280 x 1024 and I want to reduce it to about 639 x 510. The image has a fair bit of text (it is a screenshot from a event program) and when it is shrunk, the text is unreadable. If I do the same thing in powerpoint, the image looks fine, but if I then copy it across to flash, it looks really bad again. Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

Cheers

Image Quality Lost, Exported At 100% JPEG Quality
I am working on a Flash website for a design group to display their work. These designs needed to be scaled down to fit the format of the website and many of these designs have body copy with small text. In the FLA file they look ok, but when I export the SWF, the text looks really bad.I know JPEG compression isn't very good for text but even when I export at 100% JPEG quality it still ends up looking different. The text looks very "sparkly" with the thins of the letters have been lost. The original assets that they gave me were all in one photoshop file at 150dpi with one design per layer and some of the text were just slightly pixelated if you zoom in (all text were rasterized and flattened into the designs). Some of the same images supposedly from that file had been used on their previous site with no problem. On some of the images in the PSD I can see that some of the thin strokes in the letters had been lost a little from scaling the designs down. This has been really frustrating and I can't think of how to rememdy this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

-Sorry I did not realize that someone had already asked the smae type of question. I am trying the suggestions from the other thread.

Poor Image Quality If Image Not In 1st Frame?
All,
I am working on a small movie moving around some images.
Everything was fine until I added a pre-loader and all the sudden the images look very jaggy, all of them.

From my testing it seems rotated images in a 1 frame movie look fine, additional frames make them look all jaggy.

Anyone else know whats going on?

thanks,
brad

Image Quality On Scaling Image
I am trying to scale a image that i made in fireworks. When I scale this the outer shell of the picture gets pixalated. Is there a way to fix this? http://www.hazsoft.com/final.htm I'm a newbie to flash, but catching on pretty quick. Only problem I have came across is with scaling images. I have the publishing jpeg quality at 100% and I have smoothing turned off in the properties of the image and the quality all the way up. I have turned smoothing on as well and not much happened. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi there all, I am not new to web design, but i am new to flash use. I have flash mx, I am creating a navigation for my new website... I have no problem creating the animations, adding sounds and the like it all seems pretty straight forward. What I do have a issue with is the quality of the final exported movie. It seems to look fine in flash while i am editing but as soon as i export, the text and all looks enlongated and very ugly.

I am using a jpeg as a background i a made in photoshop using pixel fonts and rectangles.

It looks very crisp and clean in photoshop and even in flash but as i said once exported it looks like crap. Please give me a hint or tell me a good way to prevent this...

Thanks for your time.

I noticed something when I make an image to import into Flash in Photoshop. The image will be all messy (edges are messed up and things of that nature). How can I rectify this? A lot of stuff I wanna do to images (like filters, for example) can only be done in Photoshop.

I am having problems with image quality in my swf file. I import the jpg., convert to graphic symbol, and rotate the image by 10 degrees. I set quality to best and jpeg compression to 100. When I publish the swf file, the images look horrible. I am working on a mac with flash mx. If I right click on the swf file during play mode, or during testing, and select quality - high, even though high is already selected, it fixes the problem. If I follow the same import steps and not rotate the image, the quality looks fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I've noticed something strange in Flash, and I'm wondering what everyone else has to say about it. Let's say I have a movie, and on the root level I have a picture that moves from left to right over some number of frames. I've found that if I play the movie as-is, the movement is jerky. However, if I place the movie inside another movie that is only one frame repeating, the movement is much smoother.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone explain more around why this happens?

Thanks!

Hi-
I'm getting back into Flash. I need some brush-up on images: I need to bring in an image (created in Illustrator) to my Flash library, then place it in my movie. When I've tried this, the image becomes pixelated...even if I resize it in Illustrator first. Any suggestions? Do I save it out as a PNG maybe? Thanks.

What is cuasing this and how can I avoid this? I attached a screen shot.

I have a logo on the top left corner of a flash movie, this logo doesn't move at all. However, other part of the movie (which are layered ontop of this base layer) have motion tweens.

The quality of the .jpg logo is poor for this .swf even when exported with the quality set too 100%.

Any Ideas, is there anything in particular you have to do to maintain .jpg quality when tweening other objects?

Hello all,

I am having real problems including images in my website.

It seems that whatever I do, the image appears blocky and looks awful when displayed in Flash.

Can anybody offer a bit of advice?

- What filetype should I use for the image?
- Am I right to use
Code:
loadMovie("pic1.jpg", "holder_mc");
to load the image or should I import all images to the library? I am obviously trying to keep the file size to a minimum.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

David

Hey Team,

I'm wanted to ask a question. In regards to Image Quality I see on some flash sites, the pictures are so clear and crisp. Is there something else needed to add to make them crisp? I undersand using a digital camera with high mexapixel is a must, and photoshop right? But my question is what else should be done to optimize them? What megapixel camera is a must and what steps do you use to get your shots so Crisp and Tight? one site i see where the pictures are so smooth is below. I take this is an Html and Flash site, not Flash 100%.. I need to optimize my shots to be as clear.

Image Quality In FP6/AS2
I recently was pulling my hair out trying to solve an issue with image compression: Despite my flash player set to export maximum quality, uncompressed JPGs would get pulled into Flash poorly. I was so sure that it had something to do with a Progressive JPG or a whole pixel...

Apparantly not though. When your export setting are set to Flash Player 6 using Actionscript 2, the program naturally wants to compress the images.

I've resolved this issue simply by exporting to Flash Player 7. There was no particular development decision in using Flash Player 6...still, it strikes me as a quirk of note.

Now that I've solved the issue its no big deal, but I'm wondering if anyone has any documentation on why this sort of thing would happen and any potential workarounds just in case. Soooo...anyone?

Image Quality - Problem
What's up, hope y'all doing good.

My problem. www.55-studio.com is my web site, and I imported PNG and JPG images on the flash file. If i view the site on my desktop computer, then everything looks fine and there is a good image quality.

BUT last weekend I've viewed it on a laptop. The PNG alpha area was kinda visible and also the images were in a bad quality.

I know it's the "color" setting of the screen of the Laptop BUT is there any kinda to fix that?

Like Using Vector Images, or using a different software for the images?

I use Photoshop 7.0 for images.

Thanks

I've got two versions of the movie, one where the objects containing this png do not animate, and their image quality is fine. on the other file, the objects containing the png do a quick little slide into the frame, but the image quality of the png is all jagged and pixelated in the version that animates.

why is this and how can i fix it? surely flash can't be THIS bad at handling images...

Image Quality Issue
Hi all,

I have a project that contains a single scene on the first frame of the timeline. I've also created a movie clip symbol which consists of a sequence of jpegs which play like a movie, and placed this into my scene.

Now, everything is working fine but I want to insert a pre-loader into the project and figure that I'm going to have to insert it before the current scene. When I insert a frame in the timeline the image quality of the first scene decreases significantly when played back.

I'm getting close to just startingthe whole thing again.

I've posted examples to demostratre the difference in quality (the files are pretty big) at http://baddriver.co.nz

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hello

I'm using loadMovie to put an image on the screen, but it's coming in at a much lower quality than I've saved it at. It looks like it's been badly resized and in some cases appears to be larger than I saved it at. I've set the JPEG quality in the export settings at 100%, but it's still not looking good.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong here? I'm using Flash 8.

I imagine it's because the images are much bigger in the library, about 500x350 px, so look strange when small, but can flash improve this for me someway? or do I need to redo all my movieclips with smaller jpegs? just thinking of the 'resample' option in dreamweaver, so handy...

Issues With Image Quality
So just when I thought I’d finally worked out all the kinks in my new Flash portfolio site, I’ve run into yet another issue… When I load the site in my browser the image quality of the photographs is horrible- banding and/or artifacts in most of the pictures. However, this is only true when I load the site on the Mac G4’s in the studio, the images appear flawless when I open the page on my Window’s at work, my desktop at home and my MacBook… I don’t understand why this is happening on only the G4’s, does anyone know what the problem may be?

Here’s a list of things I’ve already tried in Flash 8 in an attempt to increase the image quality:

-set publish setting at highest for jpeg, unchecked ‘movie compression’ and set flash player quality at ‘best’

-tried out different image formats (gif, jpeg, png and tiff) as well as raising and lowering image resolution (neither worked)

-made sure image dimensions were whole numbers

-changed individual image properties under “Bitmap Properties,” made sure compression was for photo, unchecked and rechecked ‘image smoothing,’ and made sure document quality was set at highest=100

-wrote ActionScript to raise image quality of movie clips that the images are embedded in

-checked out internet and Flash player settings on the G4’s causing the banding

Is there something simple that I’m just forgetting here? I should probably note that the image on the main page is embedded in a movie clip, and the images on the ‘design’ and ‘photo’ pages are external swfs loaded into a movie clip… if that means anything… and here’s a link to the site, if you want to see how the images load on your computer:
http://udel.edu/~ginnymae/vitalic

Thanks!
