can anyone tell me how to run a setup file from a stand alone flash application. i am not using my application for web. its a stand alone application where i want to run a setup.exe file on a click of a button.

Stand Alone Application
I would like to know if is possible, in a stand_alone application(flash projector),
to keep track of scores. For example, the user, a kid, is following a series of lessons. There are certain things that the application could remenber of him/her if she or he have a password and save the work in the c drive. Is this possible?
could a teacher check the work, like time spent, work complete, work left, scores?
Under which headings should I look for more information?

Stand Alone Application
I have devleoped a flash application and am currently testing version 1.0a.

One of the comments of interest to me talked about the way the application is in a browser window and not a stand alone program that the user can click an icon and load a program in its own window. if this will be an adoption barrier I think that its worth thinking about.

Is it possible to create a flash application of this type. From a visual point of view, the os menu (file, view, control, help) would need to hide in place of the UI Component menu.

Secondly, are there any issues that change the ip communications - is it any disadvantages from a swf to a browser?

Should I Use Shared Objects For A Stand Alone Application?
Hi all,

Wondering if I am on the right track here. What I need to do is the following

- it's stand alone
- 4 pages
- each page has a different number of images
- depending on the page an user may select 1 or a max of 3 images
- page 5 gives an overview of the selected images and a print button

Should I use shared objects or should I use 4 arrays? Any advice is welcome

Fullscreen Stand-alone Application In Linux
Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to write a fullscreen stand-alone application in Flash CS3 - Air 1.
I've placed the following line in the main document class:

stage.displayState = "fullScreen";

This is working in Windows XP. Because of some security issues (sockets), this application must be executed as an EXE, not SWF. I've copied the EXE file to Ubuntu 8.04 and used wine to run it. Now here is the problem:
1) When the application comes up, it opens in full screen, but all the dynamic loading do not show.
2) When clicking Esc (to exit full screen and add the top menu), everything is shown, but now I'm not in full screen.
3) When I select on the menu to go back to full screen, everything is shown, the top menu disappear, but I'm not really in full screen (the bottom and right sides are not covering all the screen). Another thing is that the framerate dramatically drops to about 1-2 frames a seconds (from 16).

Anyone ever experienced that? Any ideas?

I Want To Create A New Text Field In My Flash Application From A Server Side PHP Scri
This is i want to create a new text field stuff text into it like a status message and then wait x seconds or if it clicked with mouse out side the text field it will go away. At least soemthing like that - I want to do it in a sever side PHP and i need a place on my stage to put status messages bac to the user - so i want to do the creating of the text field stuff the messge into it and then remove it all with out any help from the user.

Here is some of my PHP code :

So how do i modify the above and create the text field - post the message - and then sleep for some peroid of time - and remove message - the PHP server side script needs to create and do all this in side the flash 8 application - a web site i am buildiing in flash.

Now once I get the PHP server side script working or in this case about to work I need to give the PHP paramters so that not only the correct size for the text messges to fit in - I need to a step by step process to tell the server side script where to put the actual text field on the stage - there must be a process and information to follow on how to do those things.

What Do I Need To Create Such An Application?
Hello everybody,

I was wondering about a subject for a long period and everytime I find a solution other doubts and options come up, so briefly I want to make a flash-based web application that contains some forms and that would be able to save user inputs, afterwards the application will handle those inputs and creates an output and saves it in the server, and gives the link to the user so he/she can access the output, in the end I would like to add a search engine that seraches into all outputs created by the users.
Foe example: a user fill some forms for job hunting, the application then will tidy them and put them in a clean good looking way and that's the output that has to be saved in the server automatically

I thought that Adobe Flash is enough to do so, I thought of combinig it with XML and PHP/Mysql, is that makes sense by the way? What about combinig Flash with other better languages?

After I saw there's a certain Coldfusion and Flex that can make flash-based web applications efficiently, I'm quite lost of hesitating what the best choice is to tackle my training on that.

Could you please guide me and tell me some advices about what I need to create such an application?

PS: This Application must be flash-based since the outputs will be interactive with animations and movies.

I've made this site and the client wants a stand alone cd of the site. But the site is big and I've made several swf that loads as the users clicks on them. My problem is that when I publish them as exe and run them, only the first exe loads and the rest won't load. How can I fix this?

heya, I'm making a game in flash and I was wondering if its possible to export flash to a stand allone file that will play with a pocket pc, without the pocket pc requring flash to be installed. That said, is there even a way of exporting flash to a standalone exe that will play on a pc without flash installed??? - I want something kind of like directors projector files.

I have created a presentation in Flash MX 2004 that I want to distribute on CD. To make the CD more user friendly, I would like to include installers for stand alone Flash players for PC and Mac. I have looked on Macromedia's website, and cannot find what I'm looking for. Can someone direct me to where I might download these? I don't want the player for web browsers. I want a stand alone player if such a beast exists. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm teaching myself Flash, and have a couple of design questions.
I'm trying to develop a offline Flash player that gathers numeric user input in 20 fields, then updates a line graph reflecting changes in each field over multiple sessions. I also want the label next to each input field to be a rollover that displays additional text information elsewhere on the stage. The problem is, I don't know where to begin.
Is Flash the best application for this type of project?
Can I do this project without ActionScript? (hopefully)
If the information I'm wanting is outside the scope of an email (likely), does anyone know of online tutorials that might help?

Ok here is the problem:

I have to develop a piece of software to produce Multimedia Business Cards (stand-alone presentations on a mini-CD about a person or a company). I want to do this in Flash for several reasons: 1. Flash is great for that; 2. I don't know Flash; 3. I want to learn some of Flash...
I want the data from the business card to be stored in a database (haven't decided which format would be best yet) so that the Flash code for the business card really constitutes a template, or a blank document in which all the data is loaded. I really want this to be dynamic so it can be used for several different persons (probably with different layouts of the Flash content).

The problem (or more my question) since I don't know Flash at all (nor XML yet ) I want to know if I can make a stand-alone application in Flash that uses a database without having to use client/server technologies since all this will, in the end, have to fit on mini-CDs and be run without any installation...

I don't know if you all get the picture, I'm sure most of you do... If you can give me some advice it would be great.

Going to make Version 2 (with drag and drop and playlists, and better controls.)

Basically there is a flash version out there that is doesnt work with my player and im wonder if anyone would like to download it and

1) try it and give feedback
2) If it gives you an error, let me know what version of the flash player you're using

The first version is without the flash OCX, and 400k. The second version has the newest flash ocx installed that should work on all machines, but is 2meg

Size Of Flash Stand Alone Player
I need to know, during "run time" (when the movie is played), the size of the Flash player. I am using, to play the movie, ONLY the stand alone player and never inside an HTML page.
The reason I need to know this is that when the movie is played I have some drop down menus that should resize according to the current size of the movie. The current size of the movie will depend on the amount of "zooming ins" the user did.

Trouble With Flash Stand-alone Applications

For a certain e-learning project, I have been asked to create a interactive environment where course takers can navigate through to complete some (simple) missions (mostly multiple choice questions).

Since the environment is pretty loaded with graphical issues, sound (mp3), feedback pages (frames) and 'glued' to a whole with actionscript, my development .fla-files raise up to about 66 megabytes and more.
Because the project is meant to be distributed on cd-rom, I want to publish to .exe-files, which takes a pretty long time; though that is not the major problem.

The problem is that the final .exe-files are, though checked with the 'Control - Enable simple buttons'-option (where programmaticallly everything seems to be in order), contain a number of bad generated actions which make the whole of the application fail.

Can someone help me on this one please?

Stand Alone Flash Player 9.0.115.0 Problems
Hi, I'm relatively new to using Flash CS3 Pro (version 9). Everything was working fine until the latest Flash Player update to version 9.0.115.0.
The swf files I export from Flash CS3 have the 'old' Flash player icon in my folder and I have to force them to open in the new version of the player. If I don't, they try an open themselves in a previous version of the player projector.

What's worse is that the new stand-alone player seems to randomly quit out of the swf movie/s. (Mac Console says 'bit length overflow', whatever that means?)

I use a Intel-Mac (OS 10.4.11) and use Flash to create stand-alone lecture presentations that run from the computer's HD, not from the internet (as I embed quite large video animations in the swf files).

I never had this problem of the Flash Player quitting until the player update. Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

(I have downloaded the archived Flash Players in case I need to revert to using a previous version, but I'm wondering whether it's anything I'm doing in Flash CS3 that I need to be changing to overcome this problem).

Flash Stand-alone (Projector) Files
Hi all.

Under the File menu of the Flash Player there is an option to "Create Projector". I've used this option before to create stand-alone SWF's, but after reformatting and reinstalling all my apps this option no longer works.

Now all I'm getting with the projector files is the Flash Player without any content. Just wondered if there is something else I need to be doing to create projector files. Or, are there any apps that can do this from an existing SWF.

I know you can create projectors from within Flash, but the SWF's I'm working with are not created in Flash and importing and exporting is not practical because it is adversely affecting file size.

Any advice on creating projectors from existing SWF's would be gratefully appreciated.

A while back I downloaded and installed a stand alone Flash Player. It's still on my machine.
It's Flash Player 7.0 r19. It remains even when I remove the Flash Player, plugin for Web browsers.

I can't find the stand alone player install file on the Macromedia/Adobe Web site. I want to point
people to a free downloadable stand alone Flash player file so they can play a SWF as stand alone
movie.

Why do I need this? I've created a swf file that I launch from my desktop Windows XP and this SWF
opens up, goes out over the Internet and reads an XML file on my Web site. The file,points to videos
also located on my Web site. I've created this product to be a desktop video player that is dynamically
updated every week. Cool huh?

Any help understanding where to find the free stand alone player would be great!

Web Link From Stand Alone Flash App Problem
I have been building stand-alone Flash presentations for years, but recently have been getting calls from some of my clients saying that the links that open web pages from inside the presentations aren't working correctly. They say that the browser window is opening behind the Flash presentaiton, and since the Flash presentaiton is set to full-screen, it appears that the link is not working at all. You can't see the browser until you close the Flash presentation. the Flash presenations are both PC and Mac application files or projectors. The PC version has a .exe file extension.
