How To Create A Workable CD To Access Files
I want to create a CD to store files and have a flash file that accesses these files. What I want to do, is within the flash file create buttons that will save, exe or run the associated file on the CD.
This is similiar to the GET URL command, where you can have buttons go get get a URL file from a website. I want to do this for a CD.
When you buy a game on CD, it normally loads up, which I can do, but then when you make a selection, installation, or executing a file occurs. I want to replicate this.

Why HTML From External Files Is So Limited?
I am trying to find info on why when using text files externally with HTML tags that images are not recognized. The tag, for instance, img src="whatever.gif" with the less than/greater than signs..... Well, any image for that matter. Where can I read on the *full* limitations of HTML tags.
I already know about the workaround by scrolling a movie instead. Any info would certainly be appreciated. My ultimate goal is to try and make a movie configurable with external files so as to not have to constantly go into the various movies and change objects.

Built Site For Client. How Can I Give Limited Access To Client So They Can Update?

Its not done yet, but the basics are done. The client needs to be able to update certain sections on a daily basis, and I would like to know how to grant her access to the site , so she will be able to update her site. She will mostly just updated text stuff, so I dont think it will need to be too advanced. How does everyone else do it? Please help....

Loading Txt Files Dynamically, Is The Amount Of Text Limited?
Hello,
I've been using a scrolling list of gigs for a website, the text is loaded from a txt file and formatted with html (the font is embedded).
Here* is just the page on its own
(scroller on the right) This has been working fine up until now, I've been required to add more dates to the list.... Only about quarter of it is cut off the bottom, and it is always in the same place which would suggest that there is a limit to the amount of text this can hold !! Is this the case? If so does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do about it?

Using Flash To Access And Play Movie Files
I've been asked to make a front end in Flash for a website and it involves streaming video on demand. I don't want to have the video played inside the Flash movie, that's not neccessary.
There are obviously many ways to do this and I thought I'd throw it open to everyone to find out the best methods available...

Flash Access To Temporary Internet Files?
Is there anyway to make flash look at the temp internet files.
I have a program that is photo heavy, actually a slide show and it pulls jpegs at 50k per photo.
However it also pulls a lot of bandwith, no matter how many times you flip thru the photos, it gets a fresh copy from the server. It would be great to tell flash to look at temp inet before going to the web, the same way explorer and netscape does.
If there is no way to get flash to look at temp inet files, is there a way to preload the pix like in javascript when the rollovers are sometimes preloaded so they are ready when you rollover.
If flash could preload, and remember where it put the photos, it could then access the previously loaded pix and no need to access the web every time.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Flash Slow After Idle Period
Background: The flash product is a highly interactive web based program. It contains alot of streaming video and several components that in themselves have large functionality.
Issue: After sitting unattended for a period of time ranging from .5 - 1.5 hours, the programs lags constantly. We know this isnt a streaming issue as the videos can replay and even when they have been cached they are still studdering, it is not just the video that lags, however; the program it self lags in basic animations.
Self Diagnosis: I beleive it is an issue where flash is hogging the system cache.
Question: Is there anyway to clear a system cache dynamically? And / or is this a different problem I am unaware of?

how can flash create or change text files, writing any desired content in it? is this possible with projector files only, or can the .swf file do this as well? the thing is, i neither want to build up any website, nor i have a clue about perl and cgi. instead, i've got my swf or exe together with some text files in a local folder on my pc.
for example i'd like to set a variable that can be used the next time my movie is started.
then, i've got dynamic textboxes loading the content of a .txt file, using &mytextfield=mycontent. is it possible to let flash add characters(space) to mycontent until the number of characters in my dynamic textbox reaches a certain value ????

Server Software To Auto-create Flash Files?
I've done searches on Macromedia's site, but not finding what I'm looking for...
... Server software that can auto create Flash files based on a script.
Here are more specifics on what I need it to do:
On the server, a computer generated graphic illustration (TGA file probably) will be deposited into a directory from another system, once every two minutes. I need to process this file further graphically, proabably do posterization at a preset threshold. At this point, I think the file will need to be converted to vectors, though I'm not sure as there might be another way I'm not considering. This file will be concantenated with the previous 30 graphics (essentially creating a time lapse over a sixty minute periods). This time lapse will be the computer graphic over a black background, which needs to become transparent in the final assembly so a pre-made Flash background and pre-made Flash text-and-graphic overlay can be applied, and then the whole thing is made available on a website.
And, of course, this has to run continuously.
Is there a Macromedia/Flash product that can do autonomous creation in this way?

Telling Flash To Pause For A Period Of Time Then Play In Reverse
Hi! I have a Flash animation that, once it's complete, I want it to freeze on that frame for a period of time (lets say 2 minutes), then I want the Flash animation to play backwards until it reaches the very beginning. Maybe pause again for a short time before playing again. In a sense, I want it to loop back and forth consistently.
I know how I could do this using the frames (basically copy and paste those frames and tell those frames to run in reverse, and make time between them simply by the number of frames between them). But I was specifically asked not to do it that way, and to use code instead. When I've tried to, it will either stop at the last frame or loop from the beginning again.

Flash On Limited OS X Account?
Im at school right now, and every time i open flash, i just see the main tool bar, and no blank flash file. Once i create a blank flash file, the tool bar disapears, so i go to windows > panel sets but once i click the Windows bar i get an "internal application error". Everything seems to be fine after that, but whenever i try to add a tween or change the babckground colour, etc. the panel at the bottom with those controls doesnt update! ahh! and whenever i try to open a saved file, (for some reason it asks me to open it twice), it opens a a window, but its all gray and you cant see or do anything with the document.
i am on Mac OS X on a limited account. there are no problems with flash on an admin account.
btw my computer is the only one in the room with this problem

I have recently discovered that I cannot use the "stage" in a class file. I had a regular fla file that had actionscript
in my "actions" layer. Of course, the fla has a stage object. I decided it might be nice to use the actionscript
I wrote (copied, stole, etc) in as a class, so I could use it in different places, etc. I am still a neophyte in this area.
My new class file consists of a button and a textfield. I created small classes for each of these items as an exercise for myself on creating a simple class, etc.
I also have a URLLoader, and use an xmllist to do a sort of mini-slide show. The idea is to show a button and the textfield. When the user clicks the button the slide show starts. I would like to be able to center the images loaded on the stage, along with the buttons, etc. Right now I am cheating - since I decided the stage is 500 px wide, etc. I can use 500 - myButton.width, etc to center items. The fla where the class is called has a stage that wide, etc. The swf created from the class file WeeklySlideShow.swf is created from a fla with the DocumentClass set to my class WeeklySlideShow.as.
I then have yet another fla file, and load my WeeklySlideShow.swf into that file, and play it, etc. But my buttons and images are not centered. Or should I just put my actionscript class back into the calling fla as an actions layer, thus having a stage where I can center everything. I probably have a flaw in the items in my class file and am really miss-using the class concept, etc.
Any tips will help.

Flash Mx Limited To 17000 Frames?
Hey out there;
Got a prob- I'm up to about the 17000 frames on a project i'm working on - basically putting in photos and text, tweening each to fade in and out, ect. Everything was working great up until 17000 frames -now none of my symbols will tween (all dotted lines). When i ask why it says "motion tweening will not occur on layers with ungrouped shapes or on layers with more than one group or symbol."
Hmmm... Everything work just fine up till this point.
So i double check, start a new file, use the same material as i'm trying to use now - no prob, it makes new symbols, tween the suckers, ect, ect.
Tried pasting that new bit of file into into my main grumpy file- tweens wouldn't take.
Have I pressed a "button" somewhere that is now resisting what I have doing for 17000 frames or have i encountered ANOTHER flash mx limitation?- files can't go over 17000 frames?
any help, ideas, thanks.

Flash Hyperlink Limited To 162 Characters
When building an application in which we created a dynamic html field that contains a hyperlink, the hyperlink displays correct, but when clicked it only calls the first 162 characters. The result is that our url data is cut of.
Anybody has a workaround for this?

i´ve read so much entries here about full screen flash, but i coultn´t find what i wanna know. i read the tutorial about the full screen flash, but it won´t work the way i wish it would.
what i wann have is a swf embeded in an html. the swf size is 950 px x 550 px and is in the absolute middle from all sides of the browser. if you scale your browser, it should scale itself smaller, but not bigger than the beginning resolution. within the swf file there is a game, that opens in a seperate window in front of the main swf. that window should be dragged whereever you want in the browser. but i just figuered out (with the help of the tutorial) what i have to do, to give the window some freedom. but when i want to drag it above the main swf i can´t do that. i figured out that when i drag it to the left, there is the same problem, but the further right i press the mouse on the window, the further i can drag the window to the left. same is on top - on the right and the bottom site there is no problem.
i´ve tried and tried, but i don´t know that much html that i can figure it out myself.
so please help me!!!

Flash MX Pro On Limited User Account Won't Load
As the subject says, I need to be able to run Flash MX Pro on an XP guest account, but it won't load.
It was installed in the admin acc and runs fine normally, but once i try to run it in the guest user account it does nothing.
Dreamweaver and Fireworks both run normally in the guest account (as do most progs); I'm guessing that Flash needs to be able to write/access some files on startup that it doesn't have permission for - maybe copy some files from the admin app data folder - I 'dunno'.
Please, a bit of advise, thanks.

XP Limited Account Users Not Prompted To Upgrade Flash Player
I have developed a web page which requires flash player 8.
I have observed that XP limited account user's with older version of flash player are not prompted to update their version of flash. The annimation continues for them but only displays elements of the movie that work in their version of flash.
With an xp admin account the user IS prompted to upgrade flash player.
Is there anything I can do to support XP limited accounts short of rebuildiong my page for an older version of Flash player.
ps my client is non technical and as far as she is concerned the page doesnt work on her pc so it is not acceptable.

CD Access Time When Using FLV Files
Hi,
I'm building a movie gallery in Flash and using FLV files.
The gallery shows a small picture of the movie and when pressed - it launches the FLV movie.
After I tried running the gallery from a CD - I noticed that there's a delay in loading the movie if the CD is not already spinning (when you hear the "vvvvssshhh sound..).
I added a loop that loads and unloads a movie every few seconds to keep the CD spinning, but it didn't quite help.
Any ideas about how to overcome this delay problem ?!

Access Files Stored In Folder
i was wondering if there was anyway to load all files in a certain foler? like if i wanted to creat a photoviewer, i would beable to load lets say all jpeg files no matter what the name of the file was? or if i wanted to creat a music player i could have it load all mp3 files in the music foler.

Access Local AND Network Files
Hi !
I don't really like the fact that Flash 8 doesn't allow us to load local and remote files, but I understand the security problem beyond this. Unfortunatelly, it's even impossible to call a simple getURL ("http://www.hotmail.com","_BLANK") without any parameters (no parameters = no problem...)
So, does anyone think that it's possible to avoid that problem using javascript ?

Using GetURL To Access Network Files
I am working on an Intranet site and I need a button in Flash to open a file that's on our network share. I know about the getURL function and use it often to link to HTML files that are on the same server as the web files, but I don't know how to use getURL to open external files on the network:
example:
on (release) {

page1.html is located on the webserver but contains a link to \server1share1document1.doc (server1 is a different server on our network)
I want to eliminate the middle man and link directly to document1.doc, but I don't know how to do that with getURL since document1.doc is not on the webserver.

can't simply do an .htaccess redirect away from the directory w/ the php in it since the swf client will also get redirected.
one way is to embed a key into the swf which gets POSTed to the php file. if this key doesn't exist then the php file sends an error message rather than executing. but then someone could crack the swf and get the key. and if the swf retrieves the the key from the server then there still must be an unprotected file for the swf to get the key from.
another way is to .htaccess protect the folder with the php files and allow the swf to authenticate. is this best? if so, how to do this?

Trying To Access Xml And Images Files Outside Of Webroot?
Hello,
I've written a content management system that writes(creates) xml files and uploads images to a directory outside of the webroot. I need to load these xml files into a flash application that resides within the webroot. The xml files contain tags that point to images that are used by the flash application.
Having tested this successfully locally, I am using this directory structure:
/cms/images
/xml
/webrootflashapp.swf
But I can't get this to work on a live server. Is there some restriction on .swf files from accessing files and directories outside of the webroot?

No Policy Files Granted Access.
I'm getting this error when I put my swf live (it works fine from the IDE):
SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: LoaderInfo.content: http://www.serverA.com/someSWF.swf cannot access https://www.serverB.com/images/somePic.jpg. No policy files granted access.
Here's the setup:
swf sits on server A
images sit on image server (server B)

Restrict Direct Access To Files But The Main
I have a all-flash-site which on demand loads several swf-files in to the main.swf.(e.g. if you type www.mySite.com and hit the button movie movieOfTheDay.swf is loaded.)
And I want to avoid people being able to directly access those files using http://www.mySite.com/movieOfTheDay.swf .
Best would be if they where be directed to index att all times.
Does it make sense?

This all works if I place copies of the NextButton and PrevButton inside each Library of the external files; otherwise it fails because the external files can't see these classes. What's a way to do this without adding the buttons to each and every Library? Am I stuck creating an external class file like NextPrevious.as?
External Loaded SWF, Access To Local Files
I don't know how/if this is possible: SWF#A runs on localhost. SWF#A (as3.0) loads SWF#B (as2.0). SWF#B internal loads config.txt from the same folder as SWF#B is positioned in. SWF#B is developed by an external company, I can't change any code here. The problem is that I recieve an error reporting that external swfs can't load local files. Therefor I think that SWF#B is loading the .txt through an file://-path, pointing relative to the same folder as SW#B. Any suggestions how I work around this problem?
