[ How To ] Files For Download In Flash
Maybe a VERY stupid question but I couldn't find any solutions with search. It is quite simple. I have certain files I want people to download if they choose to.
Files like .pdf, .eps, etc. Is it possible to make it so that it automatically does the 'save as' routine. For example the .pdf probably will open in your browser.
Is there such a thing like the 'right-click-save-as' routine in Flash?

What I am looking to do is upon a button click a file in the same directory as the SWF (lets say picture.zip) brings up the download dialog box. Meaning either the save or open option comes up. Currently I am using the get URL and have the ZIP on a server. For example:
getURL ("http://www.*.picture.zip", "_blank");
Since the browser begins to open the file but it is not a readable file it goes straight to download. I do not want to do this because I am making a projector and do not want the users to have to be online. I want the file in the same location as the SWF. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

i just cant figure out how to download files into my c drive using flash only, i have several files on a server, what i want to do is, you click a button that says download, and they i want to make flash ask the user to put the path to download the file into, and maybe stick a progress bar on there.
i know the basic actionscript. but i need the command used to copy a file into the c drive.

Using Flash To Download .MP3 Files
I have a training program I created in Flash MX which makes extensive use of audio narration. All of the text and audio is external to the Flash program so that it can be translated into other languages. Audio is played through the Sound object using the Sound.loadSound() and Sound.start() methods.
To improve performance I would like to allow the end user to download the .MP3 narration files to their hard drive, and then have my Flash program look on their hard drive for the files. Is there a way to make Flash conduct the download process? Right now I am using InstallShield, but my Flash program doesn't know where InstallShield put the .MP3 files, so I have to ask the user. This is confusing and cumbersome for the end user.
Any ideas out there on how to make Flash conduct the "install" process?

normally what i did is create a html from dreamweaver and link the flash button to it. it would be a lot more presentable if i could open up the "save as - open - close" window directly from flash.

Right-click To Download ZIP Files In Flash
Hi
Wondering if anyone can help me with this simple problem in Flash MX.
I need to put a link to a series of ZIP files on my flash-based website. I currently have the target files zipped and have placed links to open the zip files in a blank window. (I'm trying to establish the same effect as if you right-click on an html-based zip file. However, because I'm working in Flash, I'm having problems.)
Can anyone help with the path needed to start the download of a zip file linked from an swf file?

Download Files From Site Using Flash
Hello all,
I want to know whats the best way to allow people to download files from my site using Flash/Actionscript? The simplest way too - any tutorials links and examples will be great.
I am able to download files using normal hyperlinks and PHP already - but want to do it via Flash/Actionscript without leaving the MovieClip. Maybe using AMFPHP might be easiest since I am already using it??

Where Is Download For Flash Remoting Files?
Does anyone still have the url and is it still active because macromedia is only promoting their flash remoting mx which is for .net or java and dosen't install the regular flashservices gateway.
I have the components for flash mx2004 but not the main files for flash remoting.
So clearing the issue FLASH REMOTING MX DOES NOT install the flash service gateway, only the .net or java add on.

How Can You Make Flash Download Media Files?
How can someone make a flash movie link download a media file rather allowing them to open and play in a browser?
I have always used up until now the clumsy way of zipping the files so the browser prompts you to save the files on your disk but I'm looking for a more elegant way of doing it through flash code.

Hello. I am building a Flash website in which the client wants to have forms (in PDF format) for users to go to the site and download. I just wanted to create a link to the PDF, when clicked, will start the PDF file to download.
For some reason, I couldn't figure it out, and I have the link jumping to an html page which has the PDF downloads there, but I really didn't want to do that. I'd like to keep that in Flash.
Any help would be great. I have a feeling this is something simple I am just overlooking.

Can Flash Download Files To A Folder Of User's Choice?
I'm using Flash MX to build an on-line training course which uses .MP3 audio narration. Since some users may have slow connections to the Internet, I decided to make users take the hit up front and download the files to their hard drive to a folder of their choosing.
Since I'm familiar with InstallShield, I know I can build an installer to accomplish this, but there seems to be no easy way to tell my Flash program where the files get installed to.
Is there a way to accomplish this entirely in Flash so that my program knows where the files get downloaded to?

Opps... Sound Files Too Large For Flash Download
I hate posting this here but I have little luck in either the sound or mx forums. I need some help my sound file is too fat. Here is the situtation...
Basic issue is that my flash movie is way too big, my preload option sucks because it takes too long to download. Anyway I can break my movie down in tiny bits with out noticable gap between scene or smaller movies?
Okay here is the situtation...
I am doing a large flash demo for work (not a flash developer by trade). The flash consist of 12 scenes (made primarliy in Swish converted to swf's) with a combine 1 mb file size with background music looping in all scenes with scene specific voice overs sounds. At this time I have background sound of 2.8mb mp3 (I probably can cut it down to another 1 to 1.6mb) and voice overs of 2.4mb mp3 ( I can probably cut to 2.2mb).
I have tried all kind of sound compression tools and these sound files wont get any smaller. Is there a way to compress the files further?
My key concerns right now are:
1) with sound files this large how can I make sure that a viewer with a dial-up can view the flash without waiting a 1 hour for it
2) will these large files sounds mess up the syncing of voiceovers to animation in the Flash
I know there is a way to do load this large file strategically where the viewer doesnt have to wait hours for the file to download.

Best Way To Smoothly Download Files Inside A Flash Page (.Doc And .PDF)
What's the best way to create a link that lets you download files such as word docs and pdfs, so that the browswer lets you save them to the directory you wish instead of opening a separate browswer window, etc. In past cases I have seen a little menu pop up, as if it were html, allowing you to save the file to your hard drive. But if that's more complex, there has to be something simple to insert into the code forcing the file to only be saved to the hard drive.

Is There Anywhere To Download Source Files Of More Complex Flash Sites?
Ive been getting into designing websites in flash quite a lot recently, and can now make attractive, fairly decent sites fully in flash. I would now like to leanr some more advanced techniques, such as having advanced, attractive transitions between pages on a site and more complex sites. I find the easiest way to learn is to look at the .flas of other sites and take ideas and strategies from them.
Is there anywhere that allows you to download .flas (or .zips if the site contains more than one file) for more advanced websites? Or even, are there some tutorials a bit more advanced than the "create a fully based flash site" on kirupa.com elsewhere on the internet?

Download Help Files Bug?
I'm trying to use some components, when I go to the help section, for example , datagrid, It only says click update for the latest info. Doing so I see the following:
downloading 1of 8 files, 5% of progress bar loads then jumps to
downloading 2 of 8 same progress bar reaction then jumps to
downloading 6 of 8 then quickly jumps to
downloading help file.
The the help window seems to refresh and it simply says only...
click update for the latest info.
An endless loop.
I can repeat this with other components every time.
I can't seem to get any help files.

Download .zip Files From .swf On A Cd
I'm making a site that will be distributed on cd and needs downloadable .zip files throughout the site. I know if it was to be on a server you'd use 'getURL' - but what about from a cd. (I don't want the user to just copy them off the cd) Does anyone know how to do this or if it's possible?

Allow To Download .swf Files
I have a website with flash files. I want to add an option to download the flash files to their computer. Normally I would just make a direct hyperlink to the file. However, when you link to somefile.swf, the flash file opens-up and actually plays. I want to let people save the flash to their computer.
I guess they could right click and "save as" and that would do the trick, but is there a way to directly go to the "save as" option?

Download Files From Cd
I have a project that I'm working on which is a media toolkit for a financial company. I've made this flash project but I'm having some problems. When a use clicks on say a pdf logo or an image for example I want them to be prompted to download or save it. All the files need to be on the cd.
I'm using flash 8 which has the FileReference class but I'm really confused on how to use it. Do the files have to be got from a server? Could somebody help me out please?

Excessive Download On Swf Files
We are new to Flash, and have converted our applications across from a
product called Mediator, that creates Flash code (version 6). All looks and runs great, it creates lots of .swf files.
But, although the swf files sizes are small, when you go online to view a page, it can download as much as 2mb of data to display a .swf page of 200kb. This is making the application very slow between pages.
We cannot figure out for the life of us what is happening, has anyone any pointers as to where we can start?

Can't Download .fla Files In This Site...
I have a Mac and whenever i try to download any .fla file shown in this site ..the downloaded file turns into a .php file (what is that?) or as i unzip it...it turns into a mumble jumble ...you know what i mean..i use Stuffit to unzip files..can you guys help? 'cause it'd be nice being able to see the transformations some .fla files have gone through with your help...thanks
