Gooday all

I am developing a flash site for a movie company and it needs to be 100% dynamic! and must be flash 5 compatible

To put things as simply as I can here goes.

I have a directors page - on this page I have two text fields.
The first text field pulls all the directors names from an external file called directors.html, In this external file I have html hyperlinks which link to each directors bio text (in another external text file), what I want to do is basically target the second text field in flash. i.e. when you are in flash and click one of the directors names his info must appear in the adjacent text field.

Problem Importing Flash Files Or Captivate Files
I have Flash MX and am having problems importing Captivate files or flash files that I have exported from Captivate. When I import a flash file from Captivate it will fill in the keyframes but there is nothing on the stage. Everything is in the library but it kind of defeats the purpose for it to not be on the screen.

The other option is to export from Captivate to Flash; however, when I try to do that it tells me I need Flash MX 2004. I do...it's just not seeing it for some reason.

Anyone have any ideas?

Flash, Loading Files & Temp Internet Files
Hi guys,
I have a problem with files getting stored in the Temp folder of a client's machine.

When I host an SWF file on a site, that swf file gets downloaded to the client's (in this case , my) machine in the Temporary Internet Files. Now, if that same SWF is loading a text file or an XML file stored on the server to read data, using either LoadVars.load() or XML.load() method and a relative URL as path, that text or XML file also gets stored in the Temp files of the client machine.

I wanted to know, is there a way to prevent the text files and XML files from getting downloaded to client machines ? Or is that the way the load method works ?

If the swf files has a need to make repeated loads of the same file, will it read from this downloaded file or will it make repeated calls to the server ?

Please tell me if I can clarify the problem more.

Text Files Controling Flash Files?
I was looking at some flash templates (older ones from 2002-2003) and they had .swf file controled by text files. Like the pages where you would have to edit in flash to put text..... they had text files labeled the same as the page in the flash file and u could add the text there and it would appear automatically in the flash file. How do i do that??????

FLASH - Flv Files & Importing External Files
Note: this is trying to be done all in Flash... please be patient as I have to explain it...

Here's the scenario... I am currently building a website for a coffee company, and as an introduction to their website, they want to play a short clip of 16 seconds, size 350x250 - fine... The real problem is that I have been asked to make it appear as if it was actual footage on TV - in effect, at super high quality with NO (and I mean, NO) Pixelation... very stringent, but they think I can somehow push the boundaries and work something out!! Also they wish for it to play as soon as the website begins (no chance of preloading!!) - without an option for the user to control the film (as in no play/stop/rew buttons, etc.)

In order to create this, I had to use Final Cut Pro - as this was the only program that passed the 'test' for what was asked... the client has a major issue with the 'fade' to black sections of the film - believing them to look as if they are shimmering (this also being the initial problem with building it directly in Flash). I passed this through all types of compression to achieve the smallest possible file (12MG) - and then from Quick Time Pro - I came up with an immaculate looking, but incredibly large flv file - using the export feature. Total... 82MB, yes MB...

Please note, I am fully aware of compression, but have to iterate this incredible request!!

Rather than attach it to the timeline in Flash, I placed the created FLV file in the same folder and requested on the first line of the timeline - through Actionscript - that it plays the FLV 'progressively'. To my understanding, this file should play whilst not having to load up before hand... (learnt of this from Macromedia website.)
I have seen this method used in a few tutorials, but admittedly the file sizes are approximately 5MB...

After uploading the file (took over an hour), I tested the film and it began to play extremely slow and choppy. After 16 seconds (the expected duration of the clip) the next scene in the timeline began !! The film had actually only progressed about 3 seconds into itself....

I don't think I am necessarily doing much wrong as it is the best solution that I could come up with in terms of keeping the final 'SWF' file to a minimum size so a user will not have to wait it to load up (got Flash files to 24MB - but still too long to load up!!!)

Can anyone think of an alternative method to playing an 82 MB file, or is this just plain ridiculous??

I am at a loss because I am still curious to see if this is actually feasible... if so then maybe you will help me push the boundaries of Internet viewing!!!

I have a flash file that dynamically loads a bunch of .swfs in repsonse to a certain button being pressed. all loads fine, but it seems the container move is not reading the actionscript in the swf it loads. I use the tween class rather than tweening simple things by hand - doesn't tween. I look at the .swf outide of the one that loads it, tweens fine. what's up?

.bat Files Start From .swf Files But Not From .html Files ?
I tried to use fscommand to execute certain batch files on my system. It worked fine while I tested the swf file, but didn't do anything when I published the movie and tried the same in the .html file ?
Any clues ?

Flash Buttons That Navigate To Html Files In Same Folder As Flash Movie?
I'm completely new to Flash and AS3.......

however, i've managed to build a simple "intro" flash movie that has buttons on it that need to navigate to non-flash, DWCS3 based site files.

when i go into the button in flash, if i select text in the button there is a spot in the properties panel that allows for a URL link...i enter the name of the html file but it doesn't work......but this URL property field is not available to the entire button....

so i started looking at AS because i'm pretty sure i need to use events and event listeners....BUT all of the tutorials only cover getting an external URL or linking to a frame within a flash movie......none of them cover linking to an existing HTML file in the same folder.......(ie., to access the meat of the website through the flash intro buttons....)

help?

I have created a movie where there are buttons I am calling the movie clip from the library by clicking the the button . Each movie clip is high in file size due to its large graphics. So, I have put a preloader into the first frame of each movie clip. The problem is, how can I change the order of the moive clip that is called inside the movie. Also I need to change the transparency of the layer I am hereby sending you the fla files also. I need your kind help sir.

Why Wont My The FLASH Files I Made On A Mac Open On My Pc? Same Flash Version (mx)
I went to a web design company and made loads of cool flash websites and learnt stuff with them - but of course all architects and website designers all use stupid macs, well, they are not stupid, but they have bad incompatibility

when i go to view them on my pc, it says unknown file format when they have the flash icon and are called fla. the swf of the files also plays! help!

do i have to convert them or something? or can i turn my working swf files back into fla files as an option?

[CS3] Flash Cs3 Makes Flash 8 Files Huge. Known Glitch? Solution?
Hi. Does anyone know why files created in flash 8, seem to quadruple in size when edited it flash CS3 and then "saved as" version 8 files? I have flash that are 1.2M and when I removed images form them, deleted unused items, and published at a lower jpg setting my fla files are ranging between 3-6.6M and the swf that once was 32K is 1.2M. a swf that was once 684K is now 2.4M. I only removed things from the file, added no new tweens or AS and saved as (getting a huge file) and then published, using the lowest possible settings! does anyone know what's going on here? Thank you in advance.

Loading External Flash 8 Files Into A Published Flash 7 File

Just wondering if I were to load an external movie published in Flash 8 into a movie that is published in Flash 7... the user would not require a flash 8 player, right? I'm thinking that the external Flash 8 movie takes on the Flash 7 player when loaded. Does anyone know if this is correct?

How Can I Combine Multiple Flash Files Into A Single Flash File?

I am very new to flash and I have created several flash files for a one narrative story animation. When I was creating the animation, I made separate flash files for each scenes and now I need to combine the separate flash files into one flash file in separate scenes.

I have tried to copy frames and paste frames but having a hard time because a lot of simbols have same names but different images between files.

Is there any way to make this happen easily?

Flash SWT Files Creating Flash Button Templates For Dreamweaver
I was working with some students who like the Flash Buttons that are part of Dreamweaver. They thought it would be a cool idea to create their own buttons and add them as templates. Reading on the Adobe website it says to use Flash 5 to create and export the file as a SWT file type. There are further articles that says this can not be done with Flash MX. Has Adobe brought this back for Flash 8 or CS3? How else would someone accomplish this?

Loading External Flash Files Onto Flash Website
I need help on how to load .swf files on a flash site as a portfolio section, each one will have their own image or animation. The way I want them is to when you change the pages it loads the next object rather than have it on the site and make the site file bigger to load than having it minimual. I found only one tutorial but it incorporates something I don't want and tried working around it to have it load under a frame (not animation frame but like picture frame) in a certain location.

Retaining Order Of Files Loaded Externally From Large XML Files

I was messing around with some old examples, and I ran into an unfinished example where several 30k-100k XML files are loaded and stored as a string into an Array. The code looks basically like:

Basically, when I trace the 'this', the order of the files that are loaded is off. Out of about 10 tries, about 3 times the order is perfect. The remaining 7 times, the order is a bit off. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to ensure the files are loaded prior to the next file being loaded?

I tried placing a while loop that basically delays the clock for a few milliseconds, and that didn't work either. Besides, that is not really a good solution to arbitrarily waste clock cycles. I am guessing some sort of a listener might be needed, but that is where I've hit a wall

Loading External Text Files With Links To .swf Files
i am loading a external text file with html links. I would like to know if anyone out there know how to make those links load .swf files, that would work with the levels hierarchy of the original level0 file. I tried passing a variable that would be detected by a movie clip on EnterFrame but no success, maybe I had written something wrong. Loading just the swf file will replace the html page on the browser.

2) Flash loads the text in a variable, right? How can i split it, considering i use as a splitting string something like "|splithere|"

3) How can i hold each update-note in a variable, like when i`m duplicating movie clipes, for example update1 should be held in u1, update 2 in u2 and so on... (or as visual basic used - i`m and ex vb'er - u(1) u(2) and so on)

Explorer Type View Of Files Sending Files
I'm building a website to enable a kind of online music jam session. The user will choose music files stored on their computer to be uploaded to other users' "shared folder" (eg. c:mysharedfolder on user1 to c:mysharedfolder on user2 - similar principle to Kazaa I guess).

How do I display a list of the files contained within the users "shared folder" (like windows explorer)?

Secondly, is it possible to send someone a file directly to their "shared folder"?

hi there, i made a little photo portfolio of my work. I made the main file to guide you through my photo work. When you click on each small photo it enlarges and makes it bigger. It basically guides you to each .swf file and loads it in a box. But for some reason when i point the main file with all the small pictures, it spits out that error... it works one my computer in a directory. but when i upload it to my server www.djzyx.com/resume/ it doesnt want to work...

any ideas

Flash 8 Performance Problem With Flash MX Files
Hi,

I'm having a problem editing Flash MX files imported into Flash 8. Every edit takes a massive amount of time ranging from 15 minutes to several hours. I'll move something or add a key frame and the little spinning cursor will come up and stay like that for a very long time.The files are fairly large but they were fine in Flash MX.

I'm running Flash 8 on an Intel mac but the same problem occurs when I try it on PowerPC macs and PCs as well.

Has anyone experinced similar problems? I"m really stuck here, I need to get something done which has to combine elements only available as Flash 8 fla files (and Flash 8 won't save back to Flash MX format.)

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Flash Player 8 Playing Flash 6 Files...
Hello Kiruparians,

I have just recently started using Flash 8. It has some great features (I am loving the scriptable blur effects) but I have noticed a bit of an issue with older files.

When I use Flash player 8 to play *.swf files created in Flash MX, they run very noticeably slower than normal. I have a lot of flash games I've been gradually making over the years, all in Flah MX (and of course using the original Actionscript). When I try to play these in an IE window for example, it automatically uses Flash 8 to play it, and often the slow speed of processing really takes the edge of the games I've made. On even the lowest graphics quality settings they still play very "choppy" indeed.

Its not my computer. Using Flash player 6 solves the problem completely, and the games run smoothly again. Does the Flash 8 player naturally dislike playing Actionscript 1 and Flash 6 files? Is there any way of making it run faster without having to upgrade everything to Flash 8? Because thats a lot of re-coding I would like to avoid if possible.

When I finally get some of these games on the internet, the visitors browser windows will want to view everything in Flash 8, slowing down the games. I find it hard to believe they would upgrade Flash to a new version that cannot play the older versions as well as before.

Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated.
