Flash :: Plug In Question

Plug-in Vs. Swf
created a simple little animation. several frames. stop action in every one. a little movie leading to a button in each one that takes you upon release to the next frame. all very simple. working GREAT on my mac, and in the browser.

then i go to the pc to test and it is consistently skipping the first frame. shows up on the second frame. what happened to the stop action in frame 1? weirder still. if you open the .swf on the pc it is fine and doesn't skip the first frame.

i tested it on a different pc, thinking it was a bogus plug-in on mine...still does it.

what could this be? i thought stop meant...STOP!

help! i have to produce 300 CDs!

Plug-ins And 3D?
My boss reckons that you can get a 'plug-in' for flash MX that enables you to design 3D environments (and he wants me to find out about it).

As far as I know Flash doesn't have plug-in expandability... and the only 3D software I know that does 3D for Flash is Swift 3D.

Can anyone tell me whether I'm right on not?

I have a code from Macromedia site for checking a Flash Player version, but what when his/shies version is lower than needed (for instance 5)? What www.address i need to join to getUrl("http://www.macromedia.....") or i can solve this kind of problem with my player uploaded in some directorium on my site?

i did a cd rom in flash and i was wondering if it is possible to insert the plug in on the cd itself so if someone doesn't have the flash pug in they can just get it off the cd then view it without problems.

Hey everyone...I'm not sure if this might be a problem however..does the older versions of the flash plug-in conflict with any movies you create in Flash 5 and save as flash 5? What kind of functionalities would be hindered if I have to save my movie as a flash 3 document?

Other sites that I have seen generate a box that comes up asking the user if he wants to install the plug in from Macromedia?

How do I make that happen?

Plug-in Script
I'm wondering if there is a java script or some kind of script that will check a user's browser to see if they have the proper flash plug-in to view the site, and if they do, it allows them to go on to the flash page, but if they don't have it the script either automatically downloads it or prompts the user to ask them if they want to download it.

My site requires Flash 4 Plug-in but it seems that some browsers do ask the user if they want to download the required plug-in before they view the site (IE) while others don't (Netscape and some Mac browsers and AOL).

Any ideas? The site is perfect but if they don't have the right plug-in only half the stuff works and an object that is suppost to be invisible shows up.

without the plug-in the page displays but when the user clicks on a muffin link they see the sad cartoon in the background of the happy cartoon, because the sad cartoon is suppost to stay invisible until the 5th link is clicked when the bubble says "Please leave my muffins alone." It works great with the plug-in.

Plug-in Problems
Hi All,
Am currently building a site using HTML pages with flash plug-ins, which is obviously simple enough, but the site has a black background and I don't want white patches to appear as the pages load. Got round it OK on standard PC/IE4+ set-up using embed tag to keep screen black, however all this falls to pieces in Netscape and on macs with IE.

Any ideas????

for some sites that require a flash 5 plug, i get a message saying that the site does not detect a flash 5 plug-in.

shouldn't i be able to view flash 5 with a flash 6 plug-in?

any suggestions?

How can I get my flash intro to check for a flash plug-in, then either proceed to the intro or ask the viewer if they want to download the flash player. I currently have an html page preceeding the intro that warns the viewer that Flash is needed for this site, and I have created a link to the flash download. I know there is a more elegant way of checking for plug-ins.

I've created a project with one audio file and it is linked. At the root timeline, I am able to control the position of when and where the audio is to play - along with the nested buttons. [Basically being able to sync the audio with the images corectly.]

On my development machine [DEV], everything works great. When I send the file to another machine [CLIENT 1] the audio file won't play in the final swf. The [CLIENT 1] machine has the all of the latest Flash and Shockwave Plug-In Updates.

[When I say "send" I am refering to giving them a link to the server]

When I send the file to another machine [CLIENT 2], exactly configured like [CLIENT 1] - the swf project starts to play with audio, but stops playing midway.

I would like to create a test page, that test if the user who is visiting that page, has the Flash plug-in installed. Ik he has, he is redirected to page1, if not, he is directed to page2.

Ok, please don't flame me for this one. I have looked all over these boards for some answers...found some, but they're still confusing. I made a Flash piece for a client using Flash MX. It looks and works good from IE 5.5 on PC and latest versions of IE and Safari on the Mac. But the client tells me that some of his people can't see the Flash piece and that there is a "hole" in the page where the Flash piece should be....and no prompt to download the latest Flash Player.

Is there and easy, HTML based way to ask the person to download Flash Player 6 to view the piece in the page? I saw a couple fairly complicated ways, but there should be an easy way, right? Thanks.

how can i get a quick time plug in movie player to appear in flash. at the moment i am using mpegs, imported into a swf. these swf's are called in to the main site using a button with:

this way is slow, and the movies don't stream properly. can i use a plug in media player like quicktime or windows media player?

What I can't find a tutorial for is the following mainly I want there to be a hanging cord that will look as if it really is a cord that is being moved in sync with the plug? Does that make sense?

I would like it to be applied to 6 or 7 'plugs' all with cords that all start from the same point.

I have seen the effect done before - but of course can't find reference now!!!

I'm creating a HTML project that contains Flash sequences.

How do I create a plug-in check that starts the Flash Player installer that is placed on the CD?

I do NOT want the user to connect to internet and get the plug-in there.

Is there special rules to folow when I want to place a Flash player installer on a CD?

Whenever I put in a plug-in in a special design surrounded by images where its position, height, and width is crucial, the flash ends up coming up a pixel up and a pixel to the left, leaving a white space.

What can I do to avoid this? Is there a plug-in that doesn't give these problems?

I am running MacOS 10.3.8 with the software loaded at system level not at individual user level.

I keep getting the following message when i open a flash-based site in any of my browsers:

The page “Actionscript.org Macromedia Flash Resources and Tutorials” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

I have repeatedly truied to install the flash plug-ins to no avail. What do i have to do please?

I am trying to find out how to duplicate the controls on this page (http://www.picturesinmotion.com/onlinetributes/demo_main.swf ) . Notice that when you cursor over the slide show, it displays the controls. How is this done? Is there a plug-in that I must buy? If so, does anyone know where to find it?

Once the plug-in accepts the connection, you can update the database with a record of the userâ€™s access to the server.

Frustrated With Plug-in Detection
Please, maybe someone can help.

I'm about two months from posting my home page (xtremeflash.com) and I'm fried. I plan to use Dreamweaver to hold my Flash content and I'm running in circles trying to find the right plug-in detection. DW has this dinky behavior field that's supposed to detect the Flash plug-in and then Macromedia has their detection kit which seems cryptic and clumsy to me, and of course Browserhawk is no good on my iMac.

Any help is appreciated. Have any of you found a solid code that is fairly accurate? Thank you in advance. A link or fla would be much appreciated.

Current Plug-in Statistics? 3,4,5?
Macromedia says that around 95% have some Flash plug-in but is there a link or data that breaks down the percentages? I write using ActionScript which is supported in v5 of the plug-in so the 95% is a sham if most of it is either v4 or v3. Somewhere I read that only 55% have the Flash 5 plug-in; that's not comforting.

Anyone have a link to Macromedia or an idea? Thanks.

How can you check for the Flash player version from within the .swf itself? I've read that using getVersion will generate a string, but how can you use that information to send the user to a different keyframe if the version is less than 5.0? The goal here is to build a "get the Flash 5.0 prompt" within the .swf itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Latest Flash Plug-in
Ever since I installed the trial version of Flash MX and the plug-ins that came with it, I came across many websites that refuse access because they say I don't have the Flash plug-in. All the browsers on my main computer are refused access but if I try it with another computer and with a browser which has an older plug-in version, I have access. Why do these websites don't recognize the newest Flash plug-ins? And how can one go about this and enter the sites without going back and reinstalling the older plug-in versions?
