A Mask On A Layer With Button Compo Drops The Label
Hi
I think its a bug , when i create a mask over a layer witch contains a button component instance , the label of this button is masked by the mask while the button it self is displayed fine .
any ideas ?

ps : it does the same with any text field (static or dynamic) unless i embed the fonts and then its displayed fine .

Guide Layer, And Mask Layer Problem
I have a small problem, and it might be possible i just been looking at things the wrong way.
I currently have a symbol on a guided layer, that follows a path when my movie is played. The symbol starts off small, and grows as it reaches the end of the path.
The problem i'm having is, the symbol is overlapping the outside border of my background layer. I'm trying to make the symbol look like its behind the border of my background layer.
I know this can achieved using a mask, but as the symbol is already on a guided layer..Flash won't let me apply it to a layer mask.
Is there any other way around this?

Guided Layer AND Mask Layer?
Is it possible to have a guided layer also be a mask layer?
I have a "trail" that I would like to appear so I want to have the mask guided so it will show the trail.
Any comments, suggestions, or tips are appreciated.

One Masked Layer And More Than One Mask Layer?
Hi all,
is there a way to get a layer masked by more than one mask layer?
I'm creating an animation where a mask will discover step-by-step the
bottom layer.
But the bottom layer is really complex so I created 5 more layer and
applyed the 'mask' property to them.
The problem is that only the first mask layer is applied on the movie,
while other mask layer are ignored.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Layer Label In Flash 5
I am learning Flash 5 and I picked an example tutorial from a page entitled
"Flash Interactive Sound Design Part 1: Interactivesound.fla (page 3). The HTML
file name is createtimeline.htm.
Everything went fine until the tutorial
mentioned creation of a "stop" label in
frame 5 of the "actions" layer. The author showed an image of the result but did not
explain exactly how he created the "stop"
label. I have tried everything that I know how to try but I simply have not been able to create that label.

sort of embarrasing after a 36 year career
as a computer professional (I retired in 1992) that I finally must admit that I don't
know everything! I am kidding, of course.
I want to learn this friggin Flash stuff, but some of you young 'uns will have to help me out cause I'm stuck!!!

Attaching Mask Onto Mask Layer
Hi,
I've been trying to attach a movieclip from the library, to the Mask layer using actionscript so that the mask_mc can hide a line of text as it moves.
But the movieclip is not getting attached to the mask layer.

Mask Layer
I am making a text mask layer effect that has flashing pictures underneath.
(1) I make an image layer.
(2) I import 3 images into the image layer.
(3) The first image is in the first frame and the second
frame.
(4) The second image is in the third frame and the fouth
frame.
(5) The 3rd image is in the fifth frame and the sixth frame.
(6) I do right click on the image layer.
I check "mask".
(7) I make a text layer on top of the image layer.
(8) I type a word. it says "flash"
(9) I export it
problem- it just say "flash".
there is no masking or flashing effect underneath
the letters "flash".
What was wrong?

Mask-layer?
um ż'm sure you saw this effect a million times.. there is background image and vertical stripes constantly changing width move on the image but as they are moving the part of the image where the vertical stripe is on changes in color such as we have a black-white version of an image and the actual image. when the stripes are moving on the colored image the parts of the image where a stripe is on at the moment changes color and becomes white-black
I explained a bit complicated but I think you got what I,m trying to say right?

Hello .. first off I'm not sure if it is called Masking but heres my question..
I have see sample done in FLASH 8 where they have a layer (LAYER1) and a sub layer to that layer (SUB)

SUb has data that you would want the user to see
the only way that the user can see the data is if LAYER1 is over the SUB..
ok.. I'm not sure what that process is called.. but my question reguards that...
My question is.. when doing this.. I can see my results prefectly with IE.. but with FIREFOX I dont... this is when I am at a computer away from my home computer..
At home i can see the results fine with both IE and FIREFOX.
when i dosent work with firefox... I dont see what should be seen under LAYER1.. here is an example..

SetProperty Of An MC On A Mask Layer?
OK, I've figured out that you can't drag masks in Flash 5 without some workarounds, but can you change the _x position of an MC that's on a mask layer using SetProperty or something? If there is an easy way to do this it would help me out tremendously and save me from restructuring my entire movie.

Text Box And A Mask Layer
Hi,
I have a problem with a text box and a mask layer.
I draw in Layer1 a filled rectangle.
In Layer2 a make a text box with text in it.
Now I make the Layer1 to my MASK layer.
Problem: If the text box in Layer2 is a STATIC TEXT (text properties) than everything works fine, but if the text box in Layer2 is a DYNAMIC TEXT (text properties) than I see nothing!!!
Question: How can I place a DYNAMIC TEXT BOX in Layer2?????

Animating Mask Layer
I am using Flash MX/MAC on my home computer and Flash 5 on my work computer. I'm still in the learning process. Right now I'm trying to set up a Drop down navigation that has a main category such as (CUISINES)and when you rollover and click you get subcategories that drop down below that and then you can click on the subs to bring up other pages. I've gotten as far as setting up a mask layer, etc. but then I get stuck and can't get beyond that. Any help would be appreciated........

Layer Mask Problem
ok folks, i am trying to mask a layer with a bunch of symbols on it, in fact, its all symbols, but in my .swf, the symbols don't show up under the layer mask, all i see is the background of the layer with all the symbols on it, but no symbols. whats the deal? also, i did do a paint fill inside the outline of my layer mask, but the symbols don't show up. can you use a mask to show only the part of the symbol(s) that you want to show. whats my problem.

Mask Layer Delema
I am running FLASH MX and I have a problem. I have a presentation that has 5 scenes. In the last scene I use a mask layer with 5 other layers under it. Now when I play the scene in the edit window by hitting enter on my keyboard it plays fine and I get the desired effect of the layers. BUT, when I publish the presentation or test the scene none of the masked layers show up. If some one could assist I would be gratefull.

Mask Layer Question( Please Help )
ok, i have two layers, one is a mask layer and the other is a layer with symbols. the layer with the symbols has a black background and an assortment of symbols on it. the mask layer is mask for this layer, but when i run the swf, the only thing that shows up under the mask is the black background, but none of the symbols. whats the problem. do i need the symbols on a seperate layer and then have the mask apply to both layers. is it possible to have one layer mask apply to two different layers?

Mask Layer Problem - Need Some Help...
hey there all..
i have an intro movie..
a graphic in a layer, in white background..
i reveal this graphic gradually with white rectangles moving on it..
when it is all revealed, i have made an shinning fx on the graphic with a sparkle on its corner using a mask layer.. but i have duplicated the graphic in order to make it a symbol(graphic) cause the fx doesn't work if it is not a symbol..
BUT!.. although the animation plays correct in flash, when i test or export the movie, the animation which includes the mask layer and the masked layer does not play.. everything else plays correctly..
what am i doing wrong with the mask? is it the graphic that i converted to a symbol? do some layers need to be locked (although i tried this..)? or is it something else?

Multiple MCs In Mask Layer (F5)
Hi everyone,
In Flash 5, i've got a layer with multiple MCs (small boxes) that I want to be masks for the layer beneath. The problem is that only the first MC works as a mask.
I should say that each MC on the layer is the same one copy-and-pasted, although with different instance names.
The reason i need many MCs on one layer is that they will randomly appear and disappear, creating a fragmented mask and therefore view of the image below.
If anyone knows why only the first MC acts as a mask i'd be grateful for any help. Do i need to have a totally seperate MC (as apposed to instance of the same MC) for each element of the mask? (this would be nightmare.. i have 64 of them)

Random Mask Layer
hi there,
i am trying to get a random mask image to work. i get the random images to work using action script fine, then drop in a picture in a layer below - fine. i set the random images layer to a mask layer and then test it, the random images just hang there dead. any ideas??? i'm using flash 5.

Draw To A Mask Layer
I've found a bit of code which enables me to draw to the screen, but I need modify it a bit so as to draw to a layer which is set as a 'mask'. Hopefully by adding to the mask it would have the effect of rubbing out the top layer and revealing the one below. Any ideas anyone?

Shaded Mask Layer
Hello all,
I am having problems making a shaded masked layer. I am not sure if it is even possible though I am pretty sure it is. I made a rectangle with the rectangle tool and then used the soften fill edges effect in flash. while working on the mask it looks perfect but in use it just masks as a normal rectangle. Any help

Help With Gradient Layer Mask
Hello,
I have a website I'm redesigning and I cannot locate an original fla file for the moutonotopia text that scrolls across the top of this page (have a look at the link). I've gone back into flash but I can't seem to get the mask to be transparent in the center and opaque on the outside edges in order to get the effect I'm looking for.
What I have done is create a symbol that is a movie clip consisting of a sphere that I have deleted the outline from and filled with the gradient fill in the tool menu. This I have placed on the time line in the layer above the text which is 20 frames long. I have motion tweened the sphere and in the layer properties changed the sphere to mask and the text below it to masked, then locked both layers.
What I get is a solid mask without the gradient edges I created previously.
Any help to figure this out will be greatly appreciated, I deserve to be kicked for not having kept the original file handy, or having taken notes on how I did what I did, but that's another story...

Dragable Layer Mask?
I saw an effect a few years ago consiting of an image of a racing car, and when you moved a shape over it, you could see inside sort of like an x-ray machine.
I need to do the same sort of thing.
Ive seen examples of plain coloured backgrounds revealing the image underneath but none using 2 images.
Any suggestions where i can find a tutorial?

Multi Layer Mc Mask
I am having an issue with a mask layer. The effect I need to produce is a sectioned animated mask. A redo of this:

I wanted to put the single section slice animation in an mc (the expanding rectangle). Then drop the mcs side by side or top to bottom in a mask layer.
I would also be running the still photo and another layer of animated sections to give the white - alpha 0 (transparent) effect under the mask. (2 layers).
Having an issue with a Multi layered animated mask mc. It is just ignored in the timeline?
Can anyone help me out.

Layer Mask Question
Hi everyone, this is my first time posting, sorry. I am new to Flash, but I've got a general knowledge of it to help me discuss this question.
I am trying to build a site that has a homepage with some images on it. The basic format of the site is broken into a grid. It is 5x9. It is basically a graphic over the top of the background. From this home page there are 3 buttons at the bottom. What I want to happen is when one of the buttons is clicked the homepage background image, or whatever is in the background, stays there and the information that the button is calling up to dissolve one square at a time, or in a combination, to give a nice dissolve/transition to the next set of information.
What I've tried doing:
I started another scene, which is the contents of the page after the first button is pressed. My layer stack from bottom to top is, a copy of the background image and grid from the homepage, then a new layer that is masked. On the layer is an image with all the information I want to show after the wipe. So on the mask layer I have 45 boxes. Each box is set to a zero alpha. As the keyframes go thru the time line certain sets of boxes are put up to 100% alpha, and have a white color. But what I'm getting is the background image is static, and then the white boxes just pop the masked layer in below. There is no dissolve or anything.
This is probably the wrong way to attack this problem but with my limited knowledge it is the only thing I could think of. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could achieve this effect?

Can A Masking Layer Have More Than One Mask?
I have a mask layer with a rectangular mask in it.
Inder this layer I and a nasked layer with an object to be masked on it
This works fine
When I all another object to be masked in thesame layer and relevant mask in
the same masking layer the sacond object does not show up at all.
Does this mean that the masking layer can only have one mask?

ComboBox Under Mask Layer
I have several combo boxes on a drawer that slides out from under mask layer. When the drawer slides out, the combo boxes are blank in the label, but when the they are open you can see the list of labels in the drop down list. Is this an issue with having components under a masked layer?
