Hi,

I am working on a project to put paper catalog (eg, like a jcrew catalog) online and enable interactive features such as turn-page, zoom, rotate, and click to shop.

I am evaluating whether to use Adobe Flash or Adobe Flex, and appreciate any advice from this forum on:

1. What are the differences between Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex that are important to consider?

2. Is it faster to develop using Adobe Flex than Flash?

3. Which technology produces better performance? Most online catalogs I've seen have been kind of slow: they take time to load the page and then take time to sharpen images. Any suggestions on how maybe through buffering/caching to improve the performance? how much is the performance limited by network bandwidth given the size and number of images on a catalog page?

Hello.

First, allow me to complement you all on a great forum and site, clearly one of the most informative sights I have ever been on about anything.

I am a amateur website developer, a hobby of mine and I would like to take it to the next level. I am fairly proficient in Microsoft Frontpage, but I would like to add more sophisticataed components. Thus, my interest in flash. I have a few questions below I hope someone will answer

I took a look at the free downloads, I assume the "flash player" allows one to view flash animation on a website, does the "flash producer" allow you to create flash animation etc?

Is there a free trial version for the $699 Macromedia Flash Pro 8? Is that the "flash producer?"

How does Flash relate to Dreamweaver?

What are some good books that a novice cold read to get a better idea of how to use flash (particularly with Microsoft Frontpage)?

I saw a flash site, it was a photogrpahy site, it was absolutely beautiful...one of the interesting things was that the slide show of photos, you know when you right click on a photo and it says "save photo as", well on this site the right-click menu had no such option. As a amatuer photographer, I would like such a capability on my site. Is there ay easy way to do this with Flash by embedding the images?

[F8] Adobe Flash CS3 Actually
A little help would be grand.

I have created a form for users of my site to send me some feedback and contact details. Problem is when u go to this page in my flash site, it allows you to send blank messages without having to type anything in the fields.

I have coded it so it wont continue if the fields are left blank but for some reason it still does it:

The code i used:

Pretty straightforward i guess.

Adobe Flash
I wanted to use a wink on msn and was told i'd have to have the latest flash player, I went to the site to D/load the player, but when I click the gold bar and to install active X its not D/loading. What could be the problem? is it my computer or wat, and what may I do to resolve? HELP!!!

Adobe Flash 9
I have uninstalled previous versions of the flash player and installed the newest version but it does not work. When I'm on websites that requires flash it states that I need to install flash player. In the control program-add/remove programs it shows that it's installed however it does not show up in the start-program files. Can anyone help? This is really annoying. It was working fine and then quit. I am on Windows XP IE6 (7 won't download either! LOL). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If This Isn't An Adobe Flash Bug, What Is It?
I have checked the machine for viruses (Microsoft and HouseCall); I checked and replaced faulty RAM; there is no other problem with Firefox, but It will just not handle Flex/Flash pages without a hard crash, so I managed to make this reproducible:
a) create new profile
b) leave profile unmodified
c) open Firefox in the profile creation session with new profile (has to be done twice for some reason)
d) go to http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/inproduct/sdk/dashboard/dashboard.html
e) it executes properly;
now:
a) close firefox
b) reopen using the identical (unmodified) new profile
c) going to the same link (or any other Flash-Flex link) it crashes with something like "memory 0x000000 referenced address 0x000000"

This occurs with Windows 2003 SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Opera; however I think it may also apply to as far back as 1.5 and Windows 2003 without SP's. It wasn't until SP2 that I tried the above. I have the latest Flash plugin installed (9.0.28.0)
Also, I deinstalled flash, rebooted and reinstalled (as per Adobe help pages).
I can make Microsoft .hdmp files available - when I reboot I get one per browser crash.

MP3 BUG In Adobe Flash
Does anyone know when Adobe is going to fix the BUG in Flash that requires MP3s to be encoded at sample rates that are multiples of 11.025kHz? Everyone seems to be posting workarounds, but when is Adobe going to finally fix this BUG so that any MP3 file or MP3 stream will play without "chipmunking" or "s--l--o--w" playback? All of the other major media players, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc., can play any MP3 properly, why can't Flash? Are the Adobe programmers not smart enough to fix this BUG or is Adobe too stubborn to address this BUG?

Adobe Flash CS3
So Flash CS3 is out.

I hope Adobe didn't screw up with flash.
The interface seems pretty much the same, with minor changes. When i first entered flash I noticed that the famous flash "f" icon was changed into Fl which really sucks. When you open up flash , it allows you to create a new document using AS3 or using AS2. That's cool because you can use flash with the old AS2 until you get used to AS3.

Importing PSD's and mantaining Layers and Stuff and converting Animations to AS3 are the coolest new features available in Flash CS3.

NEW TO FLASH AND WHAT TO USE WHEN AND WHY FROM ADOBE
Les's article in Layermagazine was great. keep em coing as adobe dont let you find out what products to use for what project end result. When to use AE and flash, when to use PRemeier pro, Elements, Go lvie, dreamweawver. Why not post a marix of overlap and what does what. I want simple text wrapping. Can I use Illustrator or can INdesign do the same. ?

I read elements 5 has stuff for ps2 and premier Pro. Ok what does it do, Do i need it. Can AE do a flash output diretly to a web site or must I export to Flash as in the Layers magazine article. What does this do for me . other than get it to web; ? But then why can't AE do this as an export to Flash or xx.
When to use AE to Flash vs audion and encore ?
Does Dreamweaver do it the same or can forget about months of learning that ?

The article was very good; but I see not knowing much; why export back to Flash 8. ? Is this for dvd, web or home viewing. Can't I see the final product in AE ? or is flash a stipped down export like a run time version to be shown on a web page. .

any comnents would be appreciated from anyone on how to create pages with slide shows, backgrounds fixed or scrolling; wmv players,; flash animations and then put this to a web site in a box or have move around.

This tool will allow you to create flash content easily without knowing ActionScript or programming. It is pointed to graphic designers, art directors and creative directors.

I believe this is a great move by Adobe.

Using Flash In Adobe Premiere Help
Hey all, I'm new to the board, so bear with me...

I created a small Flash title sequence, exported it into AVI format, and tried importing it into Adobe Premiere... The result: after the video was exported, the colors and quality decreased so much it makes me embarassed to present it. I've tried keeping the same FPS, keeping the same dimensions, and not compressing the avi file and still nothing seems to help... Can Flash be successfully used in a video-editing program such as Premiere? Any ideas guys?

Adobe Illustrator To Flash
I am making images in Illustrator, but then when I want to copy them over to Flash, the line thickness of the images are distorted and if I save it as a .jpg or .gif, it has a white space surrounding the image. Any way to get the image over to Flash without losing any content or quality?

I have an Adobe Illustrator image that I need to get into Flash. The problem is that if I export the image into an .swf file, the image becomes pixelated close up. I exported it with the highest settings and it still doesnt work nicely. Is there anything else I can do to get the image into flash nicely?

I have signed up for a volume license to redistribution the Adobe Flash Player in a corporate environment . But when I go to the Website to download the Msi file. The only file that is there is the one that installs Adobe Flash Player 9.0.16.0
Can any one tell me were I can get the Msi file to install Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28.0 ?

Adobe Certification For Flash 8

is there any certification guide available for flash 8? previously there was seperate exams for designer and developer now i believe it's combined to a single exam where both developing and designing skills will be tested. I'm completely unaware how my preperations should be and also i don't find any details about the minimum scores to get certified.the preperation guide pdf availabe in the site just gives an outline about the exam which will not be helpful.so kindly let me know some information about this and isd there anyone who have attempted this test?

IE7 And Adobe Flash Player
I installed IE7 to my machine and now I cannot get to flash sites, I uninstalled and reinstalled both IE7 and all my adobe products. The problem was still occuring. I uninstalled and reinstalled using clean boot, safe mode, check everything out in the registry. I ran Spybot/lavasoft/AVG/smitfraud...my system is clean. I uninstalled all the product on my system that could be harmful...Firefox....Kazaa...all game related sites. Now when I try and get to flash site my IE6 now freezes the same problem occurs with Firefox and MSN explorer. The CLT+ALT+DEL doesnt come up. I talked to a microsoft IE7XP Tier 2 support agent, and there was at least 8 hours of troubleshooting to try and fix this issue. He even spoke to people who supported Adobe products. Currently I feel left out to dry is there any help for me. Anything who be great to here because I need flash player functional for my schoolusiness work. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

The player worked fine, I saw an update, updated and now it's broken. I've tried for about 90 minutes to uninstall and use an older version to no avail. This wasn't an issue under Macromedia.

Help With Adobe Flash Player
Not sure what happened. Am doing some on-line courses and everything was fine. Then suddenly one day I can log on and view but there is no sound. Animations are fine, sound with video and powerpoint clips from my e-mail work great, My Music plays just fine but can't get sound for the Flash Player on-line courses. Works okay from my business computer but don't have the time there and want this fixed anyway. Talked to their technical and they suggested I re-download Flash Player, advised me that is the multi-media they use and I have and it still isn't working . . . any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I used to drew the picture in the flash .Now its version becomed to 9.0,but the "pen tool" has not any changed. The "pen tool" in the Photoshop is very nice ,easily,useful and comfortable. I can draw any curse by it.

Help Required Regarding Adobe Flash 10
I've recently reformatted my PC and as a result I have to redownload all plug-in's etc for my internet browsers. I'm currently running:

Operating system: Windows XP Home (Service Pack 3)
Internet browsers: IE 7 / Firefox 3.0.3

I downloaded Adobe Flash Player 9 for IE 7 last week, and all was fine until yesterday when any online video media just kept hanging (Ie, YouTube videos or BBC iPlayer etc)

I've just tried downloading Adobe Flash Player 10 via IE 7, but when I deselect the Google Toolbar option (Optional) and click "Accept & Install", it just rediverts me back to the same page in loops. When trying with Firefox 3.0.3, I get the same page minus the Google Toolbar option, and a file does download - Although, when I try and install the Flash player I just get an error message telling me that the file is corrupt:

A Few Questions About Adobe Flash

1.Can adobe flash use web services?

2.How does adobe flash handle the back button or bookmarks?

3.Can adobe flash interact with javascript on a page? Like call a javascript function and pass it XML as a
parameter?

4.How does adobe flash handle asychronous post backs?

5.Can flash interact with cookies or store information on the users computer which the flash file can interact
with?

6.Can a adobe flash file be created dynamicaly on the server, so the flash file the user receives will be more
tailored to them? Or is the Flash file just a static compiled file thats imported into the html? By this I
mean can the information and images and menus the flash file will display be pulled from a database and
dynamically generated per user?

7.I've read somewhere a while back that google was trying to make flash files serchabe so that they can be
listed on googles search engine. Is this an easy implementation or can only professional flash programmers
accomplish this?

8.Whats the learning curve for learning adobe flash, if I have many years experience in programming web
applications using html, css, vb.net, and javascript? Not just learning actionscript but also learning how to
use Adobe flash to create full flash websites?

Okay, so thats more than a few questions :) Once I started writing my first few I just couldn't stop. But please anyone who can answer these would be of great help to me in deciding if I should invest any time into adobe flash.

.flv File In Adobe Flash CS3
I am trying to get a .flv file to play in Adobe Flash... any instructions on how to do that because everytime I try to open the .flv file, flash just shows a generic picture of a file and doesn't play anything.

Adobe Flash Not Being Recognized
i have successfully downloaded the latest version of Flash Player (10.0.12.36). When i go to my currently installed programs list it shows Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. however it doesn't show the size (# of mb's) like all the other programs. Also, when i go to a site such as walgreens it says i must upgrade to the latest version of flash player to see their ad. could someone please tell me what is preventing sites such as walgreens and hallmark from recognizing that i have the latest version on my machine.

i'm running on ie 6 if that makes any difference.

Hi all, somehow I have caused an adobe message to pop up on screen :
Adobe Flash Player Settings Camera & Microphone settings Local is requesting access to your camera & microphone. If you click allow you may be recorded. Allow/Decline. As soon as I move the curser , this pop up disappears.
How can I get rid of this popup with loud music please.

Communications.xml Adobe Flash CS3
Hi,

I am very new on the field of flash media (streaming) server and i am just trying to follow the examples i found to the Developer center. I am using Flash CS3. One of the first things that training videos note is to import the Communications.xml file on the D:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Flash CS3enFirst RunActionsPanelCustomActions directory and then reboot the Flash CS3.

Unfortunately, i couldnt manage to find the new features (actions). Am i missing anything?
