How Do I Make Link In SWF Open Quicktime Player?
I have streaming movie embedded in html which when you click the Quicktime icon the movie opens up and plays using the quicktime media player.

Is there action script which would do the same (cause movie to open in QT player when the user clicks from a button or object in my flash movie). It's important the movie streams as opposed to downloads which is what happens if you link directly the the URL of the movie using an 'on press get URL' action script.

Action script needs to emulate what the embed parameter in the HTML page does.

Can action script do this?

Hi, we've made a simple flash 8 presentation for a client that is essentially a branded main menu from which 9 different .flv training movies (converted with flash 8 from quicktimes) can be launched. Everything is working fine but we'd like to add in a an action script that would automatically return the user to the main menu when each movie file has completed playing. Right now we have a back button that they can manually click at anytime but ideally it would return automatically when the .flv is finsihed. Can anyone help? Much appreciated. Manny.

(Usually when I import a .MOV it places all the frames in Flash and you have no Quicktime player.)

Making Flash Open Windows Media Player And Close After The Movie Has Played
Hello People.

I'm stuck on this, and really need help fast as it's to be in today.

I've made a presentation that if left will start cycling automatically through my work. The only problem is, is that it needs to play my AVI at the end.

I can't import the AVI into Flash because it's 40Megs, and Flash just can't handle the sound and images at the same time.

Is there anyway of getting Flash to open up Windows Media Player, playing the movie then closing it down again?

At the moment I'm using the geturl to open a webpage with the video in it, but this sticks it shrunk at the side of the window and you have to click to maximise it. Which kinda runs the automaticness of it.

Can any of you help.? I need help quickly.

I am building a flash mx projector and would love it if someone could help me with a way to open a quicktime mov.
I have been to flashjester.com but the price of there tool is not in my budget as this is an assignment for college.

MX 2004 Saved Out As Quicktime Mov. Willnot Open On PC Or In Premier
Please help. We're new to Flash:
We created a Flash presenataion with Mac MM Studio MX 2004...exported it as a QuickTime movie. It will open on our Macs in QT but not on any of our PC's, even when we try to open it from within QT.
We tried upgrading QT for the PC and that did not work either. We are also trying to add an audio track to the Flash by importing it inot in Adobe Premiere Pro after saving to the QT format. We are 4 days behind on this project...mostly we want to ensure that we can add audio and that our prospect will be able to open it on his PC. We prefer to send it to him on a CD rather than navigate him to our website because of the learning curve associated with us accomplishing that.

Midnight approacheth..can anyone give some direction..should we go about this differently?

The project structure is +/- this way:

I have a field input, with the variable "music". Have a button with the name music_btn.

I put the music in this field and pressure the button and the music starts to touch

Hi, I have searched this forum and other website but could not find a simple explanation, how to make a simple quicktime movie work in flash.
I just want a button where you click on and then the quicktime player opens up into your flash document (website) with the play and pause button. just like the one on the quicktime website and other websites (trailers).

Making A Flash Movie Open In Flash Player, Not A Browser
Hi, i know it sounds like a really obvious question but i can't figure it out. I did a flash movie for this site: -

if you go to the sample newspaper and click a page opens with a flash movie in a html page. My boss now wants the user to be able to zoom in and read the paper, so i need it to open in the flash player to do this. all i did in dreamweaver was link the movie to the button and it automatically put it in the html page, how do i get it to open in flash player instead? thanks.

Does anyone know how to open a movie in QuickTime Player from a Flash website?

I've tried getURL("blah.mov", "quicktimeplayer") but it just opens the movie in a browser window. I'm thinking maybe this can be accomplished by using Javascript and having the getURL go through that or something. My Javascript/Actionscript abilities are both limited though...

The QuickTime tutorial explains:

When set, the QuickTime Plug-in will launch QuickTime Player as a helper application (if it is not already running) and opens the url of the movie file. In order for TARGET="QUICKTIMEPLAYER" to work, there needs to be an href attribute in the embed tag which points to the movie file.

I can't deal with my server till tommorrow about the QTL MIME type thing, but if anyone can give me some pointers on what java to insert in Dreamweaver and what command to use in Flash to call it that sure would save me alot of hit & miss. Streaming Quicktime Audio Player
My client has an album of streaming .mov files (hosted on http://stream.qtv.apple.com) and wants a 'player' to stream the album within the site. I've built a dozen flash mp3 players, but have never had to deal with quicktime files.

My questions:Is it not possible to stream .mov files even if they are just audio tracks?
If I can't stream the tracks directly, can I create FLV files that stream them?
If I can't do either of the above, what are my other options (maybe this question belongs on a QT board)
Any help is appreciated.

Targetting Quicktime Player From Flash
My client has specifically requested the use of Quicktime as the delivery system for his videos. After a helpful tip from restlessdesign (a tip in which he was kind enough to not give me any grief for a really, really stupid error), I can display the movie in a lightbox on top of the Flash movie. This is excellent, as this is how he wants the "Normal" files delivered.

For the HD files, however, he wants the movie to automatically open in Quicktime Player, much like they do on Apple's Trailers site. This is all well and good, and is simple to do from an HTML link on a page using "TARGET=QUICKTIMEPLAYER" as a parameter. I can't, however, figure out how to make any kind of external call from Flash to include this parameter.

My googles have all turned up lots of useful information that will come in handy in the future, but nothing that seems to help me now. It is completely possible, however, that I'm a stupid-head and am using bad keywords.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Quicktime Vs. Window Media Player Question
Howdy,
I have .avi files on my website that are displayed in a popup window. I used a plug-in for Dreamweaver to place the .avi file. I added an additional 16 pixels or so to the length of the .avi file to make room for the movie's windows media toolbar.

However, when someone on a mac or a pc machine in which .avi is associated with quicktime, the extra space I added for the windows media toolbar is displayed as white space. So esentially there is a white bar on the top and bottom of the movie.

What can I do so I will not have those white bars when it is open in quicktime? Is it possible to somehow change the background of the actuall .avi space?

I have FlashMX2004Pro and I am doing a CDROM projector project. The page has buttons that launch either the quicktime player on the Mac or the Window Media Player to play video files. This all works when I test it, but before the player windows come up I get a blank, ugly Explorer window. This is the action attached to my button:

How can I get just the player windows to come up and play and no launching of Explorer?

The reason for my posing is that i have come up against what should hopefully be a simple issue, i have never had to do anything like it before.

I would like to be able to open the Stand Alone QuickTime player from Flash, without it opening the QT file in the browser as per the getFile URL action. Could you guys tell me if this is this possible? If so, how could i achieve it using Flash 8. I was hoping to click a button and QT opens and plays the sound.

I have tried the many methods but still no luck, all wisdom welcome.

Embed Video (MOV) = No Need For Quicktime Player/plugins/etc.?
I need to deliver a Quicktime movie to users (it needs to be .MOV format). But I need to avoid there being a need to install Quicktime or any additional plugins.

If I import a video format into Flash and select "embed" during the importing process, does that mean the user only needs the standard Flash player enabled within their browser and do not need any plugins/codecs or the video player itself (in this case Quicktime)?

Hope you all can help me, Im building a Flash site for a Dj friend and I want his mixes to be downloadable on both Mac and PC, plus I also want the mixes to also to be listened to on real player, windows media player or quicktime. I just wanted to know how to do this ?

p.s has anyone got any tips on wheres best to host a site like this as theres about 550mb of music. so plenty of bandwidth is needed, cheaper the better and in the UK.

fairly new at this -
i'm putting together a 3 scene flash story -

since the chapters are long i wanted to break them into 3 separate swf
files. A user would begin and watch chapter 1 and/or have ability to skip to chapter 2, or 3. via menu buttons. i want the button action to open the other swfs -question is can a button action open a new swf
and launch it, and allow the user to toggle back and forth -?

also is this a good method - to produce mulitple scene, larger files
for online presentations?

Firefox Recognizes Quicktime As Flash Player Instead Of Flash As Flash Player
I don't know why when I go to websites and all those old Flash sites don't work anymore, but I get the "Quicktime Question Mark" logo. I've tried reinstalling Flash Player so many times but the quicktime logo keeps coming up. I've tried this both with Firefox and Safari and it just doesn't work.

Action Script To Open Browser On Cd ?
I created a CD with a Flash intro that opens a file called index2.htm.The orders I gave it in Flash say at the end of the intro, open index2.htm. All files are relative and in the same directory. I have dsl and am always online. I use an IE 5 browser. My CD works perfectly in my computer.I shut off my DSL connection and it still worked. I was at a friends to check my CD in their computer and the intro opened but would not proceed to index2.htm. He has Compuserve which is an AOL modified IE browser. I think the browser never opened automatically in his computer. What can I do to make sure that there is always a browser to open on my CD. Is there an action script to make the Flash intro exe open the local browser? Or Is there a way to put IE5 on the CD so that it will open automatically. Any suggestions?

Is there an Actionscript command to open a file.
I want a Button to initiate the opening of a file.But when i
use Get URL the PDF or MPEG files that i specify open by default in a browser with and Acrobat or Quicktime plugin.
I want these files to open in their parent applications.

I targeted a install script in the Get URl window and it did in fact initiate an application installation.

I' using this for a Autorun CD opening menu.

Action To Open PDF File - Please Help ASAP
I am creating a presentation to go on CD. I have created two files for the presentation: 1 - a flash intro and 2 - an interactive PDF. I need to figure our actionscript to tell the flash to open the PDF file (IN ACROBAT READER) at the end of the movie.

Is this even possible. I am extremely frustrated trying to figure this one out! I am hoping that one of you flash gurus out there will be able and willing to help me out with this one!

Action Script To Open A PDF From Projector?
I've assembled an interactive portfolio using Flash MX Professional. I'm publishing it as a Mac projector and a PC projector (.exe) and plan on burning them to CD-ROM to distribute to potential employers.

I have an expanded version of my interactive design gallery in the form of a PDF file for printing purposes.

I've gone through Flash's help files and tried numerous action scripts to make my button go to and open the PDF file. Nothing is working - I'm still new at scripting with Flash. The closest that has worked is the following script:

on (release) {
getURL ("designgallery.pdf","_blank")
}

But all this does is start up my browser without opening the PDF.

Does anyone know the correct action script to make this happen? Is this even possible?

Open Extrernal PDF & Word Using Action Scripting
I am creating a CD for a piece coursework, but I have a problem. I want to be able to click on a button and a PDF document opens. I am currently using the Action Scripting of:

But this opens via internet explorer (where I want it to open in Adobe PDF Reader)!!!!! I want to do the same sort of thing with a word document as well!

Can anyone help as this is a very important factor to my work?

I'm using this code for my links in my flash movie to open up new windows, it works great with firefox, but now with IE. Here is the code:
