Adding Links To Installed Apps On Flash Desktop
I've built my flash desktop, animated and such... only problem is that I haven't figured out how to link to installed programs like an icon does instead of browser locked items such as websites.

For Example, interactive button says Notepad, I want notepad to open when I click it. Don't know too much about action scripting yet so I'm sure there's something in there someplace I can use. Already tried on (release) getURL.

Anyone know what to do on this one?

now you can create full flash windows applications with third party tools than can connect to databases without the needing of a server, and make the same and even more than a visual app can do.

I'd Like To Run Apps From My Desktop..
Hi all. Real flash newbie here.

I was thinking this: i'd like to make my desktop a webpage, which would be made of flash.

On this webpage, i would have links that would open up programs or folder inside my computer.

So for example, on my desktop, i'd have a macromedia dreamweaver icon and when i clicked it, dreamweaver would open.

How would i go about doing this? would it work if i linked the button to the whole path within my c:/ drive?

(c:/program files/macromedia/dreamweaver/dreamweaver.exe) ?

Creating Desktop Apps/Utility
Hi

Can anybody recommend a good piece of software that will allow me to convert a FLA or SWF into a flash desktop application/utilities/screensaver that can sit on the users taskbar etc.

I've seen the open sourse stuff like screenweaver but whenever I try to make something with it I get a virus scan warning so the builds never complete. These apps are for commercial use so there cant be any links/credits to the actual software that I use etc etc

Any suggestions?

Interaction From External Apps To Flash Apps
The Flash Remoting MX documentation describes how a Flash application can call an external application service (i.e. a method of a Java module). It seems that Flash Remoting application structure allows only interaction from Flash apps to external Application Servers.
Anyone knows if it is possible to share data (in a synchronous manner) between Flash and another external application, or to raise an event/invoke a method on a Flash application from an external app?

Hello,

I was wondering if its possible to add attributes to an XML loaded link other than the target attribute. I need to add other ones such as title=" " and rel=" ".

Is it at all possible and if so, how?

For an example of what I need to re-produce, think of it like this: <a href="xmlloadedurl" target="_blank" title="test" rel="test"> </a>

That's the HTML way of what I need to appear on my XML loaded links.

Adding Links To XML Flash Slideshow
Hi all

I'm using the Kirupa XML Flash slideshow within a website I'm building but I would like to add links to the descriptions and/or images. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I'm also trying to add another line of descriptiopn within it, if anyones got any ideas.

Adding Links Within Flash File
My experience with ActionScript is really limited, so I apologize in advance if this is a really simple question. I'm making edits to an existing site that's built in Flash. The pages (4 total) seem to be movie clips built within a scene in the main Flash file. In addition, one of the pages acts as a main movie frame and imports a series of swf files into it, depending on which button you click. The client wants to add links on one of the pages (ie, services) to each of the galleries (the swf files). I can't figure out an easy way to code the links. Is there a simple way to do this?

Flash Detection: Adding Custom Links
I'm using just the basic built-in flash detection that you turn on in the Publish settings. I would like to add a personalized notice, like "Your computer requires Flash Player 8. To proceed, click here for the free download." Then another link with "If you would like to continue to an HTML version, click here." I have been changing this in Dreamweaver and it just doesn't show up when I uninstall flash and test it out. Instead all I get is the basic "Get Flash" link and the "alternate content" sentence. What am I doing wrong? I do see a bunch of CSS I don't understand with a "Get Flash" link, but I don't know how to customize CSS with new centered lines and such. Thanks for your help!

Editing Txt And Adding Links To Pre-designed Flash Template

Beginning to wonder if I can do this. I have a Flash template that I want to edit text and add site links to. But when I try to open in Dreamweaver am only seeing the html files which don't contain the text. When I open the files in Flash, it tells me that the selected files (that contain the text) can't be opened. Can I configure Dreamweaver to open the .fla and .swf files or do I have an unworkable template? TX.

After I posted here I realized that I was thinking Dreamweaver and html, but asking about Flash files and didn't want to C/P. I have Flash 2004 Pro, but am inexperienced w/ it, which is the reason I'm using a pre-designed template.

The total files inside the template: 1-.fla, 2- .swf, 1- html, (a Flash logo). When I open the template folder in Dreamweaver, I am only seeing the .html file. When I copied the .fla contents into Dreamweaver (externally) this is what shows up (w/ code view only and no edit functions avail.):

When I open Flash, the files w/ scenes that I (apparently) need for text edits, (ie "Your Company Name Here"), show "Current Selection Cannot Have Actions Applied To It".

I realize that I need to go deeper into Flash w/ tutorials and the like, but thought that integrating Flash into DW, and only changing text in, and adding links to, a premade template, would have been more straightforward than I'm finding it to be. TX for looking.

New Instance Button Doesn't Work, No Apps Listed, But Apps Work
In my admin panel if I click on the New Instance button it doesn't do anything. I've seen other posts about this and they all end up being caused by people having no applications to load, but that's not the case here. My apps are installed and they work fine, but the new instance button doesn't list them and they don't show up in the applications list of the admin panel, even when they're running.

This has to be something pretty simple, but I'm not having any luck figuring it out. Any ideas?

I've stumbled across a very interesting tutorial, which helped me a lot.

But, I've noticed a little detail. When you click on the big image of the finished example on the first page of tutorial, it acts like a link. When I have downloaded finished .fla source, links are nicely written in the images.xml file, but the links in the .fla file don't work.
Please, tell me which AS code I have to add to my .fla file in order to activate links (and make them work properly).

Adding Links Within A Draggable Map
Hi everyone,
I've been working on a different map lately, similar to this style: http://www.centralpark.com/pages/map-it/maps.html

My map has a draggable zoom in/out tool just like the one in the site, and you can also pan and drag, just like the one in the site. The only problem is that I don't know how to get my red points (the markers the map uses to indicate points of interest) to be clickable just like how the ones function on the site above and then finally link to an external website just like the website above.

I think that they main reason why I'm having problems doing this is because my map is currently a button and I guess you can't put a button inside another button right?

Adding Links To A Text Box

I am trying to add clickable links to a dynamic text box that is being used by different buttons (every time you click a different button the information in the text field changes). I have the text bos set to render as html and I can add bold, etc. tags, but because of the " mark in an href tag, it's not taking it.

Adding Links To Xml Gallery
Hi guys.

I'm trying to modify Scotty's fantastic resizable XML gallery to add links to it. I've read through similar posts on this forum and I'm confused on a couple of issues. Firstly, the xml file provided, which I am using, places all fields in "" marks, whilst all examples given on this forum don't seem to do so. Is this a problem?

Perhaps more importantly, when i try, as recommended on similar posts, to place the link within CDATA tags the gallery stops showing any thumbnails, pictures or anything! I am confused. My XML file is as below, after editing the first image data to try and accomodate the link:

Adding Links From External MC's
What I have going on here (you'll see if you visit www.takedownmag.com) a flash header that is used for the navagation of the site. Once a user mouses Over a specific section (which is why I can't the onPress) the main time line is ushered to the frame labeled "events" and a few color effects take place as well as:

1. A movie clip called scratch (which is placed of each label frame) plays and stops once it completes on cycle.//See code above//
2. Above that (because it's on a higher layer) a movie clip called "NavCon" (which simply acts as a container for loading external swfs) loads it's specific swf. Which is different per each instince that is moused over.//see example code above//
3. In the event the user mouses off of the scratch the main time line will play (for 13 frames) and reach a keyframe that has a stop action, actions to return the color effects to normal, and this line of code:

In order to hide the scratch Movie Clip once the user rolls away from the loaded options.

NOW>>>> Here's my problem. Everything about works fine. But, if I add (by invisible buttons or directly on the text) any "onPress/onRelease" events to the specific "NavBar" swf that link to a different page. Once my mouse rolls over it. It (The external MC and the scratch MC) disappear.

Adding Links To The Carousel
Ok so I think I have this figured out. Little searching goes along ways. However I have a new problem. I have added html link into my .xml file, but I dont want to have links on each icon. Is there anyway to tell flash to ignore link on certain icons? Maybe thru checking the string on myTitle which I use for the text box?

Flash In Other Apps.
Hello, Powerpoint is horrible. Flash rules!
However sometimes my company doesn't give me a choice.
It seems like a lot of corporations love Powerpoint.
Anyway, I wanted to insert an entire Flash file into
Powerpoint. I managed to do that. Only it showed up
as an icon to click on the Flash file. Is there any
way I can have the ppt file play the Flash as soon as
I start a slide show. Powerpoint's animation is horrible.
Flash is so much more sophisticated.

Too Many Flash Apps?
Hey,

I’m working on a form that includes a small flash program that allows users to rate the current item in a list. The list is dynamically generated based upon items that users have selected to add to their lists. However the problem is that some of my users have over 700 items in their lists and therefore would have over 700 occurrences of that flash program on their pages. I'm afraid that this would be too much for the users computers to handle. However I've considered breaking up the list into multiple pages but because the list is a form (there are other properties of each item users can change) I’m afraid it might be more confusing for them if the page is broken up.

My first thought would be that this is way too many apps but on second thought I was wondering if flash would recognize that they are the same and therefore only have one copy of.

Would having over 700 copies of the same flash app. on one page for some users be too much for them to handle? Or am I just making a big deal out of nothing?

My Flash skills are pretty good. But unfortunately im my own expert.
I emailed the author of this .fla but he wants to charge me for something that I could THEORETICALLY (with alot of headaches) figure out on my own.

As for an INDEX type button, im not sure. Its an odd code to me.

Problem Adding Links To Buttons...
Hello, I am trying to add some links to my flash page and I am having problems. I have several rollover buttons that I want to redirect users to a different part of my page or to a different website.

I think I have it close because when I run the movie and click on the buttons I get an error message and then a blank Internet Explorer page. The error message says...

Cannot find
'file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Terry/My%Documents/Backup/%20of%20Web%20Template/2081/with%5FFL/html/www.google.com' Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

What I did was click on the button, then in the area below I entered this code...

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated; I think I am really close to getting this going.

Adding Web Links Inside A .txt File

I've build a simple CMS for a client so that they can update text fields on their site. So far so good. My problem is that they want to include clickable links in this text. I know I can display html text in flash, so that is not the problem.

My problem is setting up an easy way for my client to add the links to the text file. I can't ask them to wrap link tags around the text they want to link from, so I need some foolproof way of them adding the links.

I'm stumped so any ideas appreciated.

Help Adding URL Links To Carousel Animation

I recently downloaded a free tutorial with source files for a carousel animation. It works perfectly, however when one of the numerous moving icons is clicked information /data is being displayed in the parent window which is taken from an xml file.

Basically I want a html page or URL to open when an icon/image is clicked by a user. (making it a menu system and not merely an animation) Each icon would be a link to a different html file or URL i.e. home, about, services, contact etc or www.google.com etc.

I dont know where exactly i can achieve this! Can i add the link in along with the data on the xml file or does script have to be written in the flash file? If so could someone please let me know exactly how to achieve this as I have no experience with actionscript.
