Adding An Animation On 'over' State Of A Button
Hi, I am pretty much new to flash. I know how to do simple things, but i was wondering how to make it possible to have the over state of a button animated. You have add a new animation to the over state obviously, and i was wondering if someone could explain how to do that.

Animation On Down State Of Button
Hello guys (and gals),
I'm pretty new to Flash so keep that in mind for responses. Try and be as simple as possible...lol
I'm trying to add a movie clip (Animation) to the down state of a button in my flash movie. I'm able to have the animation play out as long as I "HOLD" the button in the down state. The problem is...as soon as I release the button the animation stops. I'd like to have the animation complete the entire animation clip one time no matter how long the button is held down. (as people just click a button without holding it)
A brief description of what I'm trying to do in the movie...
I have several buttons in my movie (About, Services, industry, contact, etc...) that link to different information . When you click a button, it initiates a screen to slowly appear with the text that corresponds to that button. I have this part working fine
I want to add an effect that will have the button (when pressed) do some motion tweening itself (while the screen is appearing with the information).
I know this could have probably been explained better, but if you have any clue what I'm talking about...lol, please advise how to accomplish this.

I've got a white outline around a button that fades up on mouse over and fade out on mouse down. I've done it by creating alpha tween of the outline in 2 separate movie clips and dropping each clip onto the correct frame of the button symbol.
Question is - how do i get the down state movie to play to the end? If i click and hold the fade-out anim plays ok, but if i click quickly (as everybody does) it'll only play like 1 or 2 frames of the fade out.
Like i said real simple question with answer probably somewhere in my head already, but it's late and i can't find it on searches.

KeyPress Showing Animation / Down-state Of A Button?
Maybe I missed the memo, but is it even possible to make a .onKeyPress and relative functions display the downstate of the button to which it is attached!?
If not great, however I can't seem to find any evidence either way. My client has specifically asked for it to happen and I can't figure out how or find any resources on the topic.

Movie Clip Animation Not Finishing In Button State
I'm sure this question has been asked dozens of times, but the search feature of the board isn't working right now, and I don't feel like sifting through hundreds of posts...

How do I get a button state's movie clip animation to play and finish its animation when you click the button?
If the answer is "move the movie clip outside the button", then could you please explain a little further? Do I put it on the main stage? If so, does it matter which frame?

Problem Adding Animation To A Button
Newbie here....
I'm trying to drag a movie clip onto the stage over a button that I want it to animate in the "up" frame....but it's not working. I get an error message that says "you cannot place a symbol inside itself"
I think maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Basically I have a button that I want to fade in and out continuously in the "up" frame, and the button is text. I originally animated the button and copied the frames to make a movie clip symbol, then I deleted the original animation to the button so that I could apply the movie clip animation to the "up" frame. Does this make sense?
What am I doing wrong?

Animation In The "UP" Button State, Plays When Movie Loads
I had great help before and i have come back again to ask this: How can i stop my animation for my UP state from playing everytime the whole swf loads? Right now i have a MC inserted into the up state so that i can have an animation that will play when the user rolls out. It works ok, but if you anyone has a suggestion how i can create one where the animation starts where the animation stops instead of it always starting from the beginning of my out sequence. Down State In Drop Down Menu-then Return To Up State When Other Button Is Clicked?
Hi - nice to meet everyone,
The drop down menu I'm referring to is located in the main movie. The menu is a movie clip with the buttons inside and I have each button as 'track as menu item' in the properties. The buttons are linked to external swfs that load into an empty movie clip on the main stage. Everything loads perfectly no problem. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out the right code to put on the sub-menu items/buttons in the drop down menu to show the 'down' state when the corresponding movie is loaded (i.e., about-main button, philosophy [menu item], philosophy movie loaded). Then get it to go back to the 'up' state when another button is pressed in the same drop area part of the menu? I hope I explained myself clear enough without confusing anyone!
I would appreciate any help - I think I'm going to lose my mind - this is driving me crazy!!

Adding A Rollover State To A Movieclip
I have a flash piece with a number of shapes/text that are movieclips, that take you to various sections when clicked. I'd like the text to change color when you roll-over them.
I know you can do this with buttons but I've already done a lot of work and they're movieclips. Can I do that?

Trouble Adding Animation To Existing Rollover Animation
Hey all,
I'm using Flash 8. I have a picture of a building which is segmented into floors. Upon rolling over a grouping of floors the user sees either a blue overlay, indicating they can click, or a gray overlay simply describing what the floor is. I already have some actionscript in place and I don't need to alter it, I just added more animation to an existing movieclip rollover, but it's not quite working. On one of the floors that rolls-over gray, I want an additional rollover with some text. So I made a movie clip of the rollover animating out and the type coming in and I just added it to the gray fade in movie clip since there was already onRollover actionscript in place there. However, the rollover kept playing over and over again. So, of course I added a Stop action. Then, the animation didn't work anymore, it just rolled over to the final state of that animation. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do, or what I can do as an alternative? I'll post the actionscript in case that helps. Like I said, the rollover "rolls-over" but either loops (without a Stop action), or rolls over to the final frame in the animation (with a Stop action).

Animation State Detection
I am looking to find out how to detect an animation's state. Specifically that it has stopped playing or reached the end of the animation. Do i do that in the Actionscript? or can i detect it with some html or javascript code on the page that embeds the animation?
For example. I utilize JDIC to open a browser window to play the animation. When the animation runs its course i would like to the window to close. Can i detect the end of the animation on the embedding page?

[F8] Animation In 'over' State Causing Problems
Hello all. I am brand new to both Flash and this forum. I am working on this button, and what I have done is create a rectangle in the up, over and down states that has the alpha set to 0, and I have some vector (converted text) graphics over all 3 states, and in the over state, I have a nested movie that is animating some text.
Some really screwy things are happening when I test my movie and I cant figure it out for the life of me. If you just place your cursor on the very outer area of the invisible rectangle, the over state does what I want it to. If you place your cursor in the center of the image area, the cursor goes haywire and flashes back and forth between the pointer and the finger and wacks out the animation.
Attached is the FLA. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

There's my button code. Now a rundown on my delima.
I have a movie "company.swf" that is loaded into an empty MC "content" that is located within my main movie "main.swf". My buttons are all located inside an MC "subnav" inside of company.swf. I have seperate MC's for each button with an actual button with just a "hit" area. I would like each button to stay in the rollover state when clicked so a user knows where they are in each section. I hope I'm being clear here. My rollover and rollout works fine.

Movie Clip Within Button - How Do You Disable Down State Of Button?
Hi - I have created a menu down the side of my flash site which is in the form of a button so that when the user rolls over the button, it brings up the menu. Within, this button is just text - the names for each page the user can select to go to (text is within movie clips so I can add actionscript to them).
However, I want to add on (press) {gotoAndPlay("home",1); } etc for each movie clip within this button but when i test the site, this code does not work as the buttons down state has priority over the movie clips within it.
Is there some actionscript code which could disable the down state of a button? (as i only need the button as a rollover anyway and i need the movie clips within the button to have priority in terms of actionscript for linkage etc)

Adding Points Throughout Animation?
Hello,
I am using Flash MX and am quite new to it.
I'm trying to make a mask for a movie clip that I am animating. In order for this mask to change shape correctly as the animation progresses, I'm going to need to add pen points at each keyframe I have set. Is it possible to add pen points that aren't present in the beginning to a shape in an animation? They just need to be added at each keyframe. I hope this is clear.

Animation Adding And Subtracting?
Couldnt think of a name for what I want to do so Ill explain...
THIS is a quote engine for a client who specialises in digital print.
The user basically chooses their required print job specs and eventually they'll get emailed their quote.
In the space top right I want to add some animations that play on each button rollOver...which I can do no problem, except for when it comes to choosing the quantity, if possible, can I have say 4 boxes appear when then hover over 400, then when they move to 300 can one of them boxes be animated out (like you're taking it away, or if the hover over say 500, another box animates in to join the original 4 if that makes sense. I gather it is possible but Im unsure how to go about it......have each box as a separate MC but what AS would make them add and subtract themselves?

Help Adding URL Links To Carousel Animation
Hi,
I recently downloaded a free tutorial with source files for a carousel animation. It works perfectly, however when one of the numerous moving icons is clicked information /data is being displayed in the parent window which is taken from an xml file.
Basically I want a html page or URL to open when an icon/image is clicked by a user. (making it a menu system and not merely an animation) Each icon would be a link to a different html file or URL i.e. home, about, services, contact etc or www.google.com etc.
I dont know where exactly i can achieve this! Can i add the link in along with the data on the xml file or does script have to be written in the flash file? If so could someone please let me know exactly how to achieve this as I have no experience with actionscript.

Adding Actionscript Animation To Menu ...
Hi,
I have built a simple menu which makes its buttons from variables (using the 'dynamic menu with submenu's' from the tutorials on this site).
I would like to know if its possible to add some actionscripted animation to this menu - for example when a submenu opens, all the main buttons below are forced down to reveal the submenu options - I'd like the buttons below to move down to reveal the new buttons.
I think that any actionscript which causes this to happen would have to go in here:

Button Down State
I am trying to create a flash simulation of a security keypad. One of the required features is that a different action occur if the user holds down the button for 3 seconds rather than just releasing it. To accurately mimic the real-life keypad after the button has been held for three seconds certain lights should begin to flash and events trigger before the button is released.
I have tried countless things and none of them seem to be working. Is there a way to check the state of a button so I could do a "Do while" loop based upun it still being pressed?

On And Off State Of Button
Hi,
I have a button and it is suppose to bring up a pop up menu when a user hits it and when it is hit again (while the pop up menu is still up) the menu will disappear. This is what I have:

In my main swf i have 4 buttons.What I want to accomplish is this.
When I hit but 1 for instance the butons stays in the hit state.
If I then hit but2,3 or 4 but1 is back in the normal state but2,3or 4 is in the hit state visible.How do this?

Hello.
I am making a naviagation that fades out ounce you roll out of a button.
I have an up state with a nested movie clip to fade out.
It works, but it plays when you first enter the movie. This is annoying. How can I keep this wonderful roll out and get rid of the roll out animation when you first enter the movie.

Button Down State
I'm not really a newb with flash but, I have never figured out an easy way to keep the state of a button, once it is selected, down. I used to just superimpose a phantom image of the button's down state over it when the timeline jumped to a selected frame. Is there an easier way to do this? Im no longer jumping to frames but instead loading movies, so this tactic doesnt work (and its a pain in the
$%#!)

Is it possible to disable a particular button state in the run time. i.e., A button having over, down state, when moves from frame 1 to 2 the down state should be disabled and when it comes back to frame 1 it should be enabled, I can't have two buttons for that and it got to be the same button

3 State Button
I would like to create a button (or perhaps a mc that acts like a button?) that has three states :
1. a normal "off" state
2. a highlighted "rollover" state (which amounts to putting a white square graphic behind the first, normal button)
3. an engaged, "clicked" state (with an additional black border around the white square rollover state) that remains a different button is clicked -- unlike the 'down' frame in a button symbol, which only remains WHILE the mouse is down.
Is it possible to do all of this via actionscript ?
I should say that I have about 30 of these to do, so I'd REAALLLLY like to find a way to do it with code.

in my program i have a map of a building which consists of various buttons. Each of these button represent a different room. When the user clicks on a button they are taken to a new room (a new 360 panorama). I'd like the button which they clicked on to remain in an up state until they click on another button. Does anyone know how i could go about doing this?

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who's helped me so far in getting on board with AS3. It's been a tough transition for me from AS2, but I've really been enjoying it and am really stoked about the results I'm getting.
That said, here's another thing I can't seem to figure out: the button on state. I've done everything in actionscript, some of it not so clean simply because I'm just not there yet, but everything is so much smoother in terms of execution so I'm trying to stick with it. Button Hit State
hey guys, quick question. I have an mc that is over a button on the mainstage. I have the rollover and rollout script that makes the MC play. Im having problems with the script that makes the mc go to the last frame if the user clicks on the button.

But as soon as I rollout, the mc plays backwards to frame one.
Ive tried also to remove the rollover script in frame 8, but for some reason this didnt work either??
How can I get the MC to stop at frame 8 with an on release script?

Hi,
I am having some trouble with my buttons. THe way my navigation is set up is that the buttons are all placed accross the top and then when clicked the playhead moves to a frame with the content on it.
Currently my code is like
on (press) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(17)
}
I want to add some code so that it still does the same thing but the down state stays down until another one is clicked.
Ive looked through some previous threads but cant seem to get a simple bit of code to do this,
any sugesstions?
