Macromedia And Adobe?
We have Freehand, Fireworks, Flash, Director and Dreamweaver. Then we have Photoshop, Image Ready, Live Motion and Illustrator. What is the deal and what is the difference? Work hooks me up with the publishing suite while school hooks me up with Macromedia and the job i've been in makes me an Adobe Warrior while the school makes a layer scounging, Onion skining knowledge seeking sponge. Obviously Macromedia wins hands down in the web development while Adobe holds a firm position in printing but my question here is whats the click between GoLive and Dreamveaver?

Old Versions & Adobe Vs Macromedia
I have just run the Secunia Software Inspector which found vulnerabilites in:

Adobe Flash Player 9.x
Macromedia Flash Player 5.x
Macromedia Flash Player 7.x

and directs me in all three cases to obtain an update at:

Firstly, what is the relationship between Macromedia Flash and Adobe Flash?

Secondly, if I go to the Adobe URL mentioned above, will the Adobe update also update Macromedia?

Thirdly, Where do I find these programs? My ProgramFilesAdobe folder contains:
Acrobat 6.0, Acrobat 7.0, and Reader 8.0. I assume that Acrobat 6 & 7 are just prior versions of Reader. Is this correct?

If so I supose that they can be removed, but how does one remove them as they do not show up in ControlPanel Add/Remove Software?

Where can I locate:
Macromedia Flash Player 5.x
Macromedia Flash Player 7.x ? Can I remove them?

Hello ,i've been working with Adobe Photoshop almost 5 years and now im learning how to use Macromedia Flash. I became curious about how to be an Adobe Photoshop Certified Expert and i found some documentation regarding to Adobe Tests here

Color Shifting Between Adobe And Macromedia?
I built a layout for a website in photoshop and made half of it flash. I saved the cropped flash area as a png, imported into flash, put my full jpeg into fireworks to slice it and then put it in dreamweaver. When I switch the jpeg slice with my swf file the colors don't match at all. Any ideas? I believe it occurs when I put the png into flash but my fiance said he thinks its a dreamweaver problem. Any help would be great, thanks!

Very Dissapointed With Macromedia/Adobe's Captivate Software
Hi all,

I'd like to voice my dissapointment with Macromedia/Adobe's Captivate Software!

I wonder if anyone else has experienced similar problems

I work for a multimedia company, and we specialise in creating interactive Flash simulations of engines & all sorts of interesting things. All of our SWF files contain various continuous vector animations which can be controlled by the user.

Our SWFs are not click-throughs, and they are not powerpoint style. They are interactive.

The prob:

so that we don't need to go and re-create all of our FLA files to run as coninutous presentations, we thought it would be better to save time using something like Captivate to capture an on-screen demonstration of how our SWF products work.

Captivate only captures one screen when you click, and therefore it doesn't automatically capture on-screen animation - so after fiddling with some settings I managed to get it to record around 50 frames per second, but the finished presentation makes the original SWF look very very ugly, and very very jumpy! It also leaves little dragging type lines all over the screen where the animation finished on the frame before - hard to describe - makes it look like dirt has been dropped on the screen.

I bumped the quality of it's screen-capture JPGs up to 100, but the vector gradients get captured in a low quality "stripey" fashion - which makes all our beautiful work look absolutely terrible.

Even if I just captured single screen jpgs using Captivate, the quality is just not acceptable!

not to mention the file size! - After recording around 50 seconds of live screen action, the resulting SWF was 12mb!

the original SWF was only 1MB

I don't understand how Macromedia/Adobe's Captivate could be such a poor quality product after producing absolute masterpiece software like Flash.

Or perhaps I am just expecting too much of it?

OK - now that I've had my whinge, I've been trying other software products such as GeoVid's Flash to video encoder which will capture my screen sessions as AVI files - the quality is much better, however it is still jumpy compared to the original vector animation, and unlike Captivate I can't record any of the mouse movements.

Seems like you just can't have everything.....

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

New Book I Bought
I bought a book called The Complete Reference Macromedia Flash MX. The author is Brian Underdahl and the publisher is Mc Graw Hill Osborne. I am wondering if this is a good book to buy to learn flash? Anyone else use this book or have it or even read it? FEEDBACK PLEZ. I spent $78 on it so I wanna get my use out of it.

Bought A Template...o Boy
As a birthday present for a friend, I bought a flash template, and am customizing it for his fledgling music company.

I had a relatively easy time of it, except for the sound files -- they load as movies (ex: "sound1.swf") These movies take FOREVER to load, and are really killing the overall effect of the site. I tried streaming the mp3s, but am getting frustrated.

I posted in the newbie forum, where someone suggested I use

The problem with that is the sounds are triggered in a movie clip with 7 sample track buttons to click, and no way to turn them off once they start streaming. All I get is tracks playing on top of each other.

The template is designed with stop and play buttons that work great in the original design, (the buttons refer to movies loaded at _level10, but they dont work when I try the streaming.)

The sound movieclip is called "music" The stop and play buttons are on the main movie timeline.

Anyone up for visiting this site, and giving me advice on how to attack this problem? I would really appreciate the help.

i bought swf viewer from inet(shows your swf files as thumbs great for finding art and animation in a hurry),from some indian company inet which worked fine until i had to reinstall windows and then due to a crap policy and their broken support links i have to buy it every time i reinstall and i am on my forth reboot, how crap is that!! is there a decent app that can browse swf files as thumbs ????

i purchased a cool Flash template online. It came with a flash version and a photoshop version. The problem is how can I disect the flash version to manipulate it. It is so optimize that i am getting the entire website on one scene. How can i get into it to change it for what i need to do.

Hi I've recently bought a component from page-flip.com
With the source code that came you get a number of example demo files showing you all sorts of additional functionality that you can add into the basic functions.

One of which was a zooming tool.
I've copied the actionscript and the movie clips into my own project and it works to an extent, in that it changes the cursor to a magnifying glass icon and when I click on a page in the movie it launches a popup window and in that window is a copy of the page, however it doesn't actually magnify the page, as it does in the demo file???

Admittedly my actionscript knowledge is a little weak but I can usually get by, so I've trawled through the demo files and checked movie naming and actionscript but cannot see where the problem lies?

The actionscript is listed below, the only area that is confusing me is where 'zooming' variables are setup.
Surely there should be an initial variable setup that allows you to stipulate the magnification amount?

I baught a template. with a background sound and I need it when I click a button it stops the background sound and starts a song thats in the library, this is what I got but it only stops the background music but the other music wont play.

[CS3] HELP Bought A Flame File But Cant Use It
I just bought a great fla. of a candle flame but I cant get it to work in my flash movie! I tried copying the MC, the actionscript, and the actual image and right clicking and trying to copy the motion but I cant figure it out! When I play my movie the flame does not move at all. Also various errors in the actionscript appear. When I play the flash I bought it's perfect! I'm feeling very lost I'm including the file I bought in a zip and the photo I'd like the three flames to go on. I'd be very thankful if anyone could assist me

Template Bought Help Needed
I bought a flash template and was able to replace the images and such but am having a hard time replacing text or finding the actual pages to work on the tex. Point is I wanted to know if someone can tell me which are the files i need to work on to replace all the text, the look and feel and add new pages to a flash template? I figure I need to create a new page of some sort - html? somewhere within the sources folder and when saving the swf file it would save the new project with the new links and such, I am having a hard time finding these files however, are they supposed to be html? or am i supposed to find each linked page within the flash project?

I also can't add extra images to the galleries already there and since the original template brought repeated images in every gallery when i insert a new image it repeats itself, when I remove one it removes both... any help??

Question. Just Bought Studio MX 2004 ...
... and I'm wondering if I should install it on my 500 mhz 96m ram machine. Are these specs enough to ensure the programs' running decently? Or at all? I know they say you should have at least 600 mhz and 128m ram, but I installed the demos for Flash MX '04 and a few others a while back, and, though I didn't spend too much time with them, they seemed to run fine. (I also use Illustrator 10 on this comp, which has the same system "requirements," I believe, and I don't have any major problems with it.)

I'm planning on buying a new machine sometime within the next year--but very likely not for that entire year. And I know that the software comes with only two install licenses. I don't want to install the software on this old machine, register it, and then realize it doesn't run, and then get "Gee, sorry, nothing we can do" from tech support or something when I call and ask if I can get my one install back.

Should it work okay?

I am working on a project to put paper catalog (eg, like a jcrew catalog) online and enable interactive features such as turn-page, zoom, rotate, and click to shop.

I am evaluating whether to use Adobe Flash or Adobe Flex, and appreciate any advice from this forum on:

1. What are the differences between Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex that are important to consider?

2. Is it faster to develop using Adobe Flex than Flash?

3. Which technology produces better performance? Most online catalogs I've seen have been kind of slow: they take time to load the page and then take time to sharpen images. Any suggestions on how maybe through buffering/caching to improve the performance? how much is the performance limited by network bandwidth given the size and number of images on a catalog page?

I have bought a flash templete which has most of the action scripts allready done :-)

However I want to be able to click on a picture (button) and bring another window up with the actual picture and not the thumbnail.

I thought this would be easy but I am getting a bit lost with it..

Bought Flash Template: Heeelp Need Advice As To How To Customise...
Hi All

Big help needed everyone.... OK, so I guess you are gonna call me an idiot, but heck, I suppose I deserve it. Here's the lo-down...

I purchased an excellent Flash template from templateMonster that comes complete with all PSD's, .fla, source code, as well as the html version of the site - and I am very VERY pleased with it. I am wanting to use this excellent template for my new Limited company, and so started looking into how I could customise it and add my own content etc.

Here is where I am stuck. I thought that because the PSD's were supplied, it would be easy for me to create the new 'content' and my images etc, then the flash would pick up these new images and content and my site would be showing my content instead of the Latin text and made-up names/contacts/pages/products etc that are supplied as default with the template. How wrong I was....

It seems that the whole site is contained in 2 files... an index.html and a flash object file. All the images, logo's, text, and content is contained within the darned embedded file and it seems I need Macromedia to edit or amend it. Phah!!! my very bad mistake I appreciate.

So, is there anyone here who can advise if I need to purchase Macromedia and learn how to customise the template myself, or should I look to hire someone to do this for me? I have approached one company - a super guy - who has been very professional and polite, and who has provided a quotation for me, but as I have no idea how much effort will be required to create the new flash object (with embedded content), I am wondering if I can perhaps learn do this myself by creating the new content by amending the PSD files in Photoshop etc. Then I'd need to create the new flash object but have no idea how to get Macromedia to pick up and compile this new content of mine instead of the default stuff within the template.

I have also asked a friend if he might be able to do this as a favour, but am really in need of getting this done ASAP. If no help is forthcoming by Monday I'll contract with the excellent chap who has already quoted for me. It's just that when I purchased the template I had no idea I would have to pay more money out to place my content in it!!!! I know html, and know that content can easily be amended - but had no idea I couldn't do this with flash.

This tool will allow you to create flash content easily without knowing ActionScript or programming. It is pointed to graphic designers, art directors and creative directors.

Bought CS3 But Haven't Read My MX Actionscript, MX2004, Books. Should I Read Them?
I just bought CS3 and I am now debating whether I should read my Flash MX Actionscript bible, Flash 2004 Bible. I should have read them, but It's just hard to fit the time in.

Would I benefit from reading these books when CS3 is Actionscript 3? How much functionality is lost when scripting in Actionsript 2 and 1 as compared to Actionscript 3.

Would it be wiser for me to just learn Actionscript 3 properly and get a book on Actionscript 3 than waste my time on reading old scripting and technology?

Also is MC tween compatible on CS3, actionscript 3.

Following one of the kirpa tutorials about scrollpane just one blank box is appearing on the screen it is scrolling up and down butthere is no scrollpane (the grey bar) is it because it is a trial version or some error is there.

Hi, i'm in charge of a smaller team of banner developers, and because i was running with photoshop 7 i wanted to upgrade.

Now the fun starts..

To buy Photoshop Extended in a single package seems stupid,cause it so expensive that i'd rather throw the extra dollars and get the "whole" package.. so Adobe Vs Me 1-0

Now, i got the new FlashCS3, and suddently i'm a pain for the rest of my colleagues, cause saving and MAINTAINING files saved in Flash8 with CS3 is near impossible.

The smarthat would response "then upgrade all your versions to CS3" ... of different reasons this is a bullshit answer, as we ship of banners of to other countries/agencies and they naturally require the fla files to be flash8 (sometimes flash7).

The banner industry is not even accepting flash9 (AS3) formats yet..so in few words.. Adobe you are not supporting us that well with ur shitty ways of file versioning/handling (alltho all flash version has suffered from this, YOU should make the difference, and make us customers happy, rahter than annoyed)

And about the above..for user creating banners only
there is NO REASON TO BUY CS3 (it will actually only make your job more difficult)

I dont have to be a braniac to figure out why you have chosen to do it this way.. you try to get people to buy latest versions.. and doingt it this way ...just SUCK!

Adobe... you are letting me down.
