Allowing Download Of PFD Files In Exchange For User Details
I am not sure on the right keywords to search for in the tutoral section so was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I want to allow users to download PDF files, but only once they have given me thier name and email address in sepearte dialogue boxes.

Mp3 Download Not Allowing User To Save
I am trying to put mp3's out for others to download.
When they are clicked on, REALONE opens and plays the file.
Somehow the mp3 has changed to a mpeg????? i dunno.
Why can't the user be asked to download the file??

Allowing Users To Download Text Files
Now this may be a really stupid question, but I want to provide users with the facility to download text files from with a Flash interface.
The idea is that the user selects which file they would like from a menu, hits a 'download file' button and the file transfer begins.
Setting up the menu system and button is no problem, but despite searching through the language reference, I seem unable to find a function/method that will allow the download to start.
I originally thought that I could use the fscommand to communicate with the browser (and ultimately the server holding the text files), but have been completely unable to make this work.
I am using Flash MX 2004.
Am I thinking along the right lines here or barking up completely the wrong tree? Any help would be much appreciated.

Can Flash Download Files To A Folder Of User's Choice?
I'm using Flash MX to build an on-line training course which uses .MP3 audio narration. Since some users may have slow connections to the Internet, I decided to make users take the hit up front and download the files to their hard drive to a folder of their choosing.
Since I'm familiar with InstallShield, I know I can build an installer to accomplish this, but there seems to be no easy way to tell my Flash program where the files get installed to.
Is there a way to accomplish this entirely in Flash so that my program knows where the files get downloaded to?

Allowing User To Enlarge A Thumbnail
Hey, I have created a page to display my artwork. I use a movieclip to contain each picture. I use the nextframe & prevframe to scroll through the movie clip. I know its probably better to use actionscript to load each picture. But, I'm not that advanced with actionscript and I don't have many pictures yet. I would like the user to be able to enlarge the picture when his mouse rolls over.

Allowing User To Choose Language
I've got a Flash project which is aimed at English learners. However the instructions are more complex than the content so I want the instructions in a language of the users choice dependent on which language they have selected in the front page.
I have three buttons so far on the front page (flags representing English, Spanish, Chinese) and want the subsequent instructions on future slides to be dynamic text based on this user choice. on the first slide there is some dynamic text (instance name = txt_f1)
I have the following code on the action layer:

Storing And Retrieving User's Personal Details In A Chat Application....
Hello all,
I have a general question regarding storing and retrieving a user's personal details inside a chat application.
IE: There are 4 users in a chat room. Each of these users will have set of databased details. (age, sex, location, sexual preference, and a personal quote) When you click on a user on the List Box of the application, the users personal details should be available to be viewed.
I am curious what the community thinks (1)would be the best way to retrieve this info from the database, (2)how to pass this info to the flash com server's shared object.
My initial thought was to retrieve this info. from the database on a php page through a set of flash variables, which would be available variables in the session variables. Which would then be stored inside of flash as a set of variables (userDataAge, userDataSex, etc.). But, this is where i am stumped. How would you send these variables to the flash com server's shared object?
I think I have explained this well, if I am unclear, let me know.

Allowing The User To Only Enter Single Key Strokes?
Hi there - I've created a game for my company that requires the player to hit certain keys on the keyboard at specific times (in this case, the cursor keys). How can I make it so that pressing a key allows one single character, rather than a continuous feed of them?
i.e.: 'e', rather than 'eeeeeee'

Allowing User To Later Edit Their Inputted Text?
I'm working on an application where the user can enter text and choose its formatting, drag it around to position it, and then potentially edit that instance of text.

I've got the text input working with formatting, I'm just unsure of how to reference back to the created instance when it comes time to click on it and edit it.
As I am new to flash, I can see the text contained in the object when clicked, but I don't know how to pull other information out of it, such as the text formatting color/font etc, so I can repopulate the Edit Text menus with those selections.
Is all of this retrievable with event.target when the text object is clicked or am I going about this all wrong?
Even by creating each text item as a class where these formatting details that the user selects are stored internally, I'm not sure how to retrieve it when the text object is clicked since I can't see what connection there is between the user instantiated object on the stage and the instantiated object where I could access the font, color, size, etc (i.e. how to reference the object in the eventlistener on click).

Allowing User To Move Items Around And Save The Positions
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering how difficult (if at all possible ) it would be to write a flash script that allows a user to move objects around on the screen, dragging say around a sofa or table inside a room for interior design, and have flash save this data into a database so the next time the flash file was loaded it would retrieve the positions of all the items in the room and display them where they were left before.

Exchange Flash-files Between Mac & Pc >>> Font Y-o
we have a big-problem with the use of fonts in flash by exchange between mac & pc. the flash-version is flash mx 2004 pro.
perhaps you have any ideas! we invest 20 hours, but we found no solutions.
here we go with the problem. create a textfield on mac. draw a line excatly under the type-line. now open it on pc. in the properties all values our exact the same, but inside the textfield the font has a y-offset of one pixel. the same problem exist if you make a file on pc and open it on mac.
the problem doesn't exist in freehand mx only in flash mx 2004.
do you have any ideas? it would so nice to get a solution!

[as] [swf] Exchange Info Betweeen SWF Files
I have created a form using flash to be filled out and saved offline. I would like to extract certain information from that form (swf) and input the data into a web viewable / protected page (swf).
In short, I want to pass information from one swf to another swf.
Is there a way to do this without using server side scripts?
I wasn't sure if I could pass information through since I know the instance names and where they're located.
If this isn't possible, I am willing to learn and try an ASP/XML approach. I've done some reading on this forum and other tutorials regarding it, but couldn't exactly find an ASP script to extract the data from an SWF and put it into XML format.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Allowing Default Heights And Widths For Flash Files
I have a site where users can post their own flash files (it's not the main purpose of the site, but it's integral to the functionality). When the flash files are displayed, I'd like them to display at whatever size they normally display at (rather than setting concrete widths and heights in the tags). Anyone know how to do this?

Allowing The User To Move Move An Object (graphic Asset)

Details, Details......... The DEVIL Is In The Details He's Got Me
Just about done with a small site that is for all intents and purposes a web site.
I load index.swf that is a short intro with looped sound. I have a on/off sound button... and a reload button that skips the intro using a label.
The "main menu" appears on the index.swf page and with rollovers produces title "flyouts." All is well and good to this point.
Each menu item on "release" generates a menu#.swf to level 1 and a page#.swf to level two. All is fine.
I have a feedback form. With positive results it provides you with a back button. I want to go back to the partial "reload" of index.swf- I unloadmovie num 1 and unloadmovie num 2 and turn all sounds off. I can't get to the "reload" label on index.swf - what do I need?
Also, if the visitor has turned the sound off.... when they it the "partial reload" button on index.swf the sound starts again... but the button shows and is set to "off". How can I resolve this?
Finally, how to you get a movie to "rewind" after it is playing back and you have clicked around loading different pages. I have done this and all hell lets loose. Is there something I need to "wrap" the entire package together?

User Download Swf As Pdf
Hello. I need some help on a project im currently working on. Ive made a small interface where the user can enter text, choose the colour, choose the images etc and then be given a final result of this. Basically i need a button at this stage for the user to download the swf as a pdf, which can then be printed off. Is this possible? If not, i suppose the user can print straight from the online swf. Download Wallpaper From CD Mac User
Please Help!!
Badly in need of info regarding downloading wallpaper from CD without browser window to open... I've used Flash MX for the main swf (which will be output as a projector/.exe file on final run)
I'm mac user, so Flash Studio Pro is out of the question.
And I need this to work on PCs and Macs...
Not good with paths, so your guidance on this would be very much appreciated.
For this purpose, lets name the CD as JESS.
Within JESS theres the projector file call JESS PROJECT, as well as a folder call WALL.
Within WALL there is a file call WALLPAPER1.pct.
How do i create my links in this case?

How To Let The User Download An Internal File?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to force the download of a file that currently resides within your SWF?
For example I've built up a sound file internally, which I want them to be able to download, but the FileReference download method only allows a download from a URLRequest object.
Is there a way to download a file built internally? I'm loathe to have to store the file on a web server somewhere just so I can then download it again.

How To Direct User To Download Flash 9
I just finished making a game. But Somone was trying it out and they received this error message...
"Alternate HTML content should be placed here.This content requires the Adobe Flash Player.Get Flash"
They didn't have Flash 9 and thus couldn't run the AS3 game. However, since they already had the Flash Player, they didn't think they needed to download the Flash Player again. Is there a pre-made javascript that can be used to tell people they need to upgrade to Flash 9 and then give them a link? I'm fairly new to ActionScript programming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if you have any feedback on the game, I'd love to hear it.

I am trying to have a button trigger "on release" to allow the user to download a file on my flash site. For example I have a animated gif and a jpg that I want to allow people to download. I want to provide a button that allows them to download it. I was trying to use the get url action script on my button instance but that only opens it into another webpage. Is there an easier way to trigger that microsoft message box that says " open" "download" or "Cancel"

Enable User To Automatically Upgrade/download Player
this is something I havent had to deal with in awhile, but I need to make sure that my users have a minimum level of Flash to view my content. They will need to upgrade the player to view content if they do not have minimum player.
I am familiar with how to detect flash version with js and as.
I want to make a streamlined process for upgrading the player and would rather they not leave my site to download the player.
It is my understanding that I can set the flash version at the end of the CODEBASE parameter to cause Windows IE to automatically download and install the latest ActiveX control player if the user's version is less than the version I specify in the CODEBASE.
Is there a similar feature for the plug-in or is it best to rely upon JS to detect major/minor version and redirect user to download page at MM web site?
