Good MX Books
Alright, I'm "familiar" with flash, already owning both Teach Yourself in 24 Hour books (Flash MX and MX Actionscripting). But I want to learn to do the slightly more complicated websites, like:

Any good book recomendations out there? Ones with tutorials are favored, but I'm up for whatever you think may help me get from point A to point B.

Im currently ballancing between some books about Flash ...
I know there are some real talents out here ... and prolly even writers of these books ... and I was wondering if any could give me some suggestions.

I really wanne learn someting from the best ... ive just made some money doing some client work and I wanne invest it in something to expand my skills.
Ive seen somewhere that Eric Jordan uses like moviemaker or something to do his flash in ... it would like to learn something like that ... Any good links for moviemaker?

Can anyone suggest a good book for Flash MX 2004 Profressial? ActionScripting and/or Basic Design.

Ok, I sorta used the search feature to see, but sorta have a specific book need. Which would be good for someone who can get around UI of FLashMX just fine and draw well, but hasn't used it since first build of Flash MX and hasn't been web dev'in since then. Also someone who was never THAT good at Flash to begin with. Oh and I have no idea about Action Script 2.0. Thanks. Internet is always great, but sorta have some free time throughout day when I'm out of range of wifi network at school, so...yeh. Thanks again!

Can anyone recommend any good flash mx 2004 books that guide you through building a complete site with flash from start to finish? most of the books I've seen only deal with the basics or jump all over the place. I need a book that just concentrates on building sites with navigation and all the other tricks.

Right, at the moment I plan to study AS 3 hardcore, and I was wondering if there are any books (not web sites, since I hate to alt-tab in and out, disrupts workflow ) you guys would recommend.

I stumbled upon Advanced ActionScript 3 with design patterns By: Lott, Joey, and was wondering if it is a good resource or not. I am pretty familiar with some intermediate concepts (DP, Recursion, etc) so would this be a good match for me?

hey, first thing is this menu i am trying to make, http://www.curve180.com/curve180_menu_ideas.html, i was wondering what you guys thought of it and if i should continue, this menu, instead of using text, i am using pictures (home, headphones for audio, lines for news) and came up with this idea where when you rollover an item it gets bigger and looks very cool. and i was also wondering what books you guys have used to become experts at flash mx, especcially in action scripting, one with tutorials would work best for me, thanks in advance

i am really trying to get into actionscripting for special effects. i know the basic actionscripting to build web sites/cd-roms etc BUT i wanted to create special effects for graphics (vr objects, special graphical effects, effects for photos, image slicing, masking effects, navigation, etc, etc,).

Good Recent FMS Books Anyone?
It's been 6 months since anyone last asked about books. Any suggestions?

I'm really new to Actionscript/Flash/FMS, being a Java developer by trade. But like many I'd like to build a simple video messaging application recording from a webcam. I'm surprised that I can't find any good recent books on FMS2.

Also, should I be learning Actionscript 2.0 or 3.0? Does FMS2 support Actionscript 3.0? Does it make any difference?

Good AS2 Learning Books?
Been using flash for a rather long time but I can't get into really learning AS. Mostly been animating/drawing. Made a couple of primitive websites aswell.

I'd like a book because video tutorials seems to leave some stuff out. Just assuming that you know how some stuff work. And I cant really find a good tutorial on the actual AS. Just tutorials on how to do this and that. They say "use UpdateAfterEven();..." But they don't explain what UpdateAfterEvent actually does(I know what it does, just an example).

I don't know how much these books cost, But I thought I'd spend around 40USD. And they need to be able to ship to sweden .

I am an avid user of Flash MX, and I have a pretty good understanding of it and a few books on it. I am now thinking about learning more about MX 2004 (in particular the actionscript 2.0 system differences) and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a book, or be on the lookout for books about to be released?

I don't want to get a book that was released right after MX 2004, because I don't think the author's really had enough time to get to know the program, heck there was even a patch since then I've heard. So, my question is, are there any good NEW or UPCOMING books, or even web sites that deal specifically with the transitional differences between MX and MX 2004? I mean, I don't need a newbie Flash tutorial and overview, I just need to know about the new stuff. Thanks if anyone can make a recommendation. I am sure there's a lot of other people here in my situation.

Good Books For Flash Newbies.
I just got a copy of Flash MX 6.0 from a friend, and I really want to get into it and be good at it. So I wanted to know what were the best books for a person with no previous experience with Flash or web design/web content, I also want to get a good book for Actionscript since I have very little programming experience to figure it out without any help. So does anybody have any recommendations for good books, for Flash in general ad Actionscript in depth.

Oh and, what is the latest version of Flash, I'm thinking about upgrading if 6.0 is not going to cut it in the long run. How many versions behind am I?

Good Actionscript Programing Books
Hello,

how you all feeling today hope your fine

I'm on the look out at the moment for a good programing book be it actionscript or a more general focussed book, what I am wanting to learn is a better method of how to model and solve problems with code.

I have all the normal programing books such as moock and the foe but they only cover the use of the language, what I want is a better understanding of how to break problems down in small and more managable chunks of code.

My house mate was talking about UML but I am not sure if this would relate to flash am I correct?

Good Beginner ActionScript 2.0 Books?
I am a graphic designer who mostly works in the print environment, occasionally working in web. I am probably at an intermediate level with Dreamweaver and Fireworks, but a beginner in Flash. I know about the stage, the library, the timeline, tweening....etc. However, I would like to begin to learn more ActionScript. There are so many books offered to learn ActionScript that I don't know where to begin.... Can anyone recommend a good text for learning ActionScript at the beginner level? I became a Flash user about 3 months ago. I am still very much a beginner, but I am working my butt off to become an expert. Unfortunately I am not able to take face to face classes on Flash and Actionscript, so the only course of action I am left with is to work my way through tutorials.

Hey y'all, i'm trying to find a good reference on how to put a high level flash site together. i've done lots of flash and know the program pretty well, but when putting a full site together i can never quite get things to flow as smoothly as i want (transitions, etc.) and feel like my architecture and implementation is a bit awkward.

I was checking out AdvancED Flash Interface Design and that looks promising, any feedback on that or other recommendations or ideas? thanks.

I heard good reviews on Moocks " definitive guide to action script" I think its called. How about you... what's the *best* book for a newbie and why?

I used some of PeachPits publications to learn html and JavaScript, they were good as far as explanations and used a lot of graphics to explain things. I am not a fan of books full of text and no break down to how it actually works.

Is Moocks book broken down well especially for a newbie, or is it for advanced users of AS?

I am familiar with flash and have done a lot of basic design with flash - but now i am ready to move on to more advanced projects and wanted to know if anyone can recommend some good books.

I would like to build a flash seating planner - so that would entail loading a list of names, having draggable objects, and then be able to drag names to tables and have flash save all those seating positions.

Well...2 years after a one day Flash class, looks like I will finally be working on a pretty intensive Flash project here at work and I haven't looked sideways at Flash since V.4, and even then I only knew the basics. Gah! What to do?!
