I'm building a site about the 7 natural wonders of the world for a class project and I'm stuck on a way to animate the Northern Lights, maybe even controlled by mouse overs. Anyone have any ideas? Your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Trying To Create A Bank Of Lights Effect
Dear flash geniuses

I'm trying to create a bank of lights effect in flash that will be projected onto a highly reflective wall at a party that we are doing soon.

We need it to look sort of like the roof in the Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way video where the bank of lights on the roof makes patterns and shapes.

We need it to be designed so that we can make an unlimited number of diiferent designs and animations in flash that the bulbs of the bank will pick up on and react to. ie: monochrome animations on the layer below the bulb that make each bulb light up separately when it passes underneath.

I've done a small example of what we need here: www.farmlondon.co.uk/lights.html using a mask but obviously there need to be a lot more bulbs and they have to look and react like bulbs so that they are either on or off and you won't be able to see the animation passing underneath.

I need some sort of code that tells each bulb to turn on when more than 50% of it's total area is filled with a part of the animation object. Actually it doesn't have to be 50% it can just be if it is touched by the animation.

**dimming Lights Effect For Flash 8?**
hey all,
i need to do a dimming/turning off of lights effect in flash 8.

it's basically an image of a conference room with spotlight and ambience lighting all around.

instead of just using alpha 100-0 for fading of an image, are there other ways to achieve a more realistic fading effect?

[MX04] Ideas For Animating Dynamic Text
I've got a client who needs their project built for translation, so we're using external txt files to hold all the data.

We did a first review, and their main comment was that they want the on-screen text to be more active and animated.

"Can the individual letters grow & shrink? Can each letter in the word flash different colors? Can the word slide in one letter at a time?"

I don't beleive any of these effects can be done using dynamic text, correct? I looked into using Swish for this, but it doesn't look like it will do this either.

Anyone have an idea how something like this could be done? Or, if it can be done?

I'd like the title letters of my site http://www.usedflutes.com to unfold like those at http://www.creastar.com . For my logo (.gif) I used "Times" font (Italic) but can't find that font available on FLASHtyper nor can I find the effect. Anybody out there know how to do this?

OK, take a look at this Budweiser

Now, I've done a sideways scrolling pages before - so you can look through pages sequentially or if you click to view a page towards the end it scrolls past the others to get to it BUT look at this site.

Click 'next' and you'll see the next page come into view AND then bounce slightly. Click right to the end and there's a 'back to beginning' button which flicks through the whole lot and still does the bounce. Any ideas how this is achieved and if it would work with dedicated 'page' buttons rather than just 'next' buttons?

Animation Effect -- Any Ideas?
Hi everyone,

I am working on an all-Flash website for a coffee house and have illustrated a coffee cup on the home page. They think it would look cool if I could animate the steam going up the side of the page a little bit. I have been working on this animation off and on while I have been constructing the rest of the site and everything I try looks corny and doesn't enhance my layout. I found a tutorial on another site for how to do this in 8 and it looks awesome - but unfortunately I'm using MX 04. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks for how to pull it off in the best possible way?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ideas On How To Achieve This Effect.
I'm looking to create this effect using actionscript. I don't really know how to describe this effect other than it's very easy to create in Illustrator using the blend tool. I've included a sample image of what I'm referring to. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thing is i cant change the size of the text without the characters starting to overlap. Can anyone figure out how to do it i have spent probably an hour trying different things with the letter holder and so forth and to no avail. Perhaps its in the AS but i cant figure it out for the life of me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Help Animating A Welding Effect
Ok, heres what I want to do...

I'm trying to create an effect of a torch cutting thru a plane to simulate my client's logo being cut out of steel.

I was thinking that a masking effect might work, but I don't really know where to start. I want to use some sort of gradient to make it look like the "steel" is cooling down behind the troch along the path...

Help with that part of it should put me along the way...

[F8] Neat Blur Background Effect. Any Ideas?
Hi,

I have seen a neat effect on some flash websites, for example the online version of Yahoo Messenger, where when a menu comes to the foreground, the entire background becomes blurred, and returns to normal when the menu is closed.

I imagine that one way to achieve this would be to have a copy of the background as an image and apply some blur to it; make that image appear, and when the menu is closed fade it out or something.

I was wondering if anyone knows a technique that you can use to achieve this using actionscript/vector shapes in flash, or some actionscript that can blur the entire flash movie without necessarily having to contain your entire flash movie within a movieclip.

I would appreciate the insight.

Animating A Drawing Line Effect?
Hi.

I'm fairly new to flash and i've tried a couple of methods to get the effect i'm after but they were't very elegant or neat. I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this...

I want to animate a box being drawn by starting at one point and having 2 lines starting at the same point and meeting on the opposite side. I've attached a little Paint drawing to help explain. The blue line is the box i want to draw and the green line shows the direction in which the lines are revealed.

Animating A Typing Text Effect (Swish)
Hello Guys,

The last I have been using Flash was around 4 years ago and I have forgotten quite a bit. I remember I used SWISH Lite to create a typing effect (as a blinking cursor is typing a line of text one by one) and later i just could take this generator animation of my text and add it to my Macromedia Flash.

I have installed the new SwishMax Trial, but I really don't recognize where I have to go in order to get this text effect generator running. Is anyone out there that can help me out with that please? And once its done how can I copy the stuff into my Adobe Flash Project?

How is this done? Obviously it's easy to do inside the IDE, but how with AS 2.0?

I'm making a scene where there is light switch. the light switch is a button. I want it to be that when I click on the light switch, the lights out and stay out and when you click it again, the lights come on and stay on. does anyone know how i can do this? if it requires actionscript, can you give me the code? thanks!

3 Search Lights
I want a searchlight effect - 3 searchlights shining through a black background onto a jpg background. So the background layer is a jpeg - the next layer above are 3 searchlights (mask) circling around. However, I can do it with a single light using a mask, but I can't add any others on that mask layer because they just don't move or even show up. Please help!

Lights Out Game
Hi everyone;

I'm working on a simple 'lights out' game where there are 8 circles on the screen and when the user clicks 'start' one of them will randomnly light up. The idea is then the user clicks a button to turn the light off. And then another light comes on straight away again, and so on.

I'm using 8 movieclips as the circles and I have 8 'invisible buttons' to handle the actions for detecting keyboard presses. So far all I have managed is something which makes all buttons flash at the same time and the script is totally wrong - anyone know the right code for this and where it goes?

I've tried and tried and can't get the moving ceiling lights to look this good... Mine have hard edges, even when using alpha values in the linear paint. Also, how do I do the dancing people? I've tried drawing siliouettes and importing the gif, then converting to a graphic and finally, using motion tween without any luck. I'm not that good at drawing in Flash MX Designer and prefer drawing in Photoshop. Does anyone have moving silouette people I could use? or a similar loop?

Help Needed For This Lights Game
i have made an empty mc in the library and i'm putting it on root through scripting.
this empty mc is container for 25 other attached mc's (which can be clicked) which have been attached through script in a grid of 25 squares. these 25 mc's are instances of the same mc in the library. i want to know if there is any method through which i can make
out which mc is clicked and also the names of the adjacent mc ie. top, left, right, and bottom mc's. also i want the adjacent mc's to react to the clicked mc.

Stage Flash Lights
Hello developers
I need help finding a tutorial or an example about colorful flash lights that are projected to the stage, before a famous singer comes out. You know, the whole curtain and microphone and the colorful lights that swirl around.
I try this with motion tweens and guides, but can't get the light to look close to real. Mine look like 50% alpha squares. So I need to see an example how to draw the lights or need a tutorial on this.
I'm heading towards my deadline and help would be really appreciated.
