Applying Shape Tween To Text
Can it be done? I've tried several different things, and so far nada. Help! =) Thanks.

Shape To Text Shape Tween Not Responding
I wanted to know if anyone has encountered this problem or can see that I'm doing something wrong. It really doesn't look too complex and I've also done it before with no issue. I'm only running 2gb of ram, but I've done this plenty of times with no latency and for some reason recently it just won't work. I'm using CS3 Pro, AS 3
Set up:
Draw a square in frame one
create a blank keyframe on say, frame 30
write some text on frame 30
shape tween the square into the text
Results:
If I tween the square to a single character-no problem
If I tween the square to a sentence slow tween on preview and publishing
If I tween 3 paragraphs it will bomb out and go into...not responding and I have to shut down the program
Any thoughts?

How in the world do you do it?
I want to tween the word "Hypeothedikal" between two fonts, but I have no luck with it period, I've broken the text down to shapes, and it still won't work, how do you do it, even if it's possible?

Text Shape Tween
This is a very basic question. I am having trouble having text do a shape tween. I know you must break it apart. (that should convert the text into a fill...I thought). Then I know each tween must be on a separate layer. So why do I keep getting a dotted line on my tween?

Hi,
When performing a shape tween with text in which the font goes from black to orange and orange to black again, at a couple points in the animation the text is warped, and this is easily seen, is there anyway, to create a smooth motion with none of this glitches?

Shape Tween MESSES UP Text

Help My Text Is Wigging Out While Using A Shape Tween.
Hi - I have some text that I created in Illustrator 10 and saved out as an EPS Illustrator 5 file. I created outlines so that the text is now in path form and not actually text.
Next I import it into Flash, convert it to a graphic symbol and them edit the symbol and copy the graphics (after breaking them apart).
I go back to my Movie timeline and paste the graphics into a frame then copy that frame and paste it further down the timeline. Next i select that whole peice of the timeline and assign a shape tween to it. I then go to my last frame and alter the size and opacity of the text. The first and last frame look great but all other frames in between them, the text wigs out !!! I don't understand what is going on. I've tried every possible alternate way of doing this and it does not work. The weirdest thing is that I have another file where I did this same exact thing and it works fine. The only difference is the text font and size. I even tried using shape hints but without any luck. Here are snapshots of what I'm talking about.

Making Text Do A Shape Tween
I have some text that I want to shrink into frame, almost as if its going overhead and then plopping down in front of you. Motion tween just moves the original text, doesnt change it into the condesnsed version. Shape tween doesnt work. BTW I created the condensed version by adjusting the spacing etc....

Shape Tween Causing Text Distortion
I've got a piece of text fading in onto the screen. I've broken all the letters up so they have become shapes. On each of the keyframes the text looks fine but when the Shape Tween is taking place the letters get all distorted for example "l" gets cut in half diagonally, same with "A" "E" "F".
I thought it may have been because I was using a different font type, so I swapped to Ariel and am still having the problem.
Does anyone know what I am talking about, and how to fix it?

Using Stop(); On A Shape Tween Of A Swapped Movie Clip Symbol Within A Motion Tween
Thanks a lot for your time. I'm new to actionscript, and language syntax and I never really got along to begin with so I appreciate any help in the matter.
Basically the title says it all - I made a motion tween in the main scene, made a movie clip symbol (to shape tween a gradient) and added a stop(); inside the gradient-tweened-symbol. I then swapped the movie clip symbol with the motion tween in the main scene, and got exactly the effect I wanted (the item moved, then tweened itself) but the stop(); seems to have no effect.
I know this looks like one of those "that idiot didn't google before posting" questions, but I've been looking for about a half hour with different permutations of stop, doesn't work, actionscript, and flash, and I haven't found anything that seems to target this problem specifically.
If you've got any idea what's going wrong, please feel free to respond or show me how to better seek help on my own. Thanks again.

Do I Use A Shape Tween? Mask? Motion Tween?
How do I make this arrow grow into shape? I want it to slowly appear...but not fade in...
it's hard to explain...but here is the arrow, hopefully you will understand what I want...
I tried using a mask, but instead of revealing the arrow little by little, it dissapeared little by little...(basically the exact opposite)...
I also tried putting a white box over it & motion tweening the box to reveal the arrow...but that didn't look good...
any ideas?...suggestions?

Change From Motion Tween To Shape Tween
I am trying to have a motion tween of some text move on the page and then change into a shape (i.e, a shape tween). I can't seem to make this work. I put a keyframe at each end of the motion tween and that works fine. Then I add another keyframe, delete the text and replace it with my shape. Then I select just those frames and add the shape tween but nothing happens. How do I accomplish this successfully?

I must be missing something very obvious.
I have created a movie that draws a box, fills in the box with color and then is supposed to have the menu swoop in from the right. Mind you this is for learnnig, not cosmetic appeal Why is it when I use tweens I get the dotted line versus a solid line in the time line?
If you take a peek at the FLA it is obvious what I am referring to. I must be using the tween function or symbols in an improper manner.
I have attached the FLA.

Applying A Tween To ComboBox In AS3
Hi
In AS2, we were able to apply a tween/easing function to the drop-down in a ComboBox with some code like this:
my_cb.setStyle("openDuration", 2000);
my_cb.setStyle("openEasing", Elastic.easeOut);
But in AS3, these events are gone.
Does anyone know how to apply easing to a component in AS3?

Applying AS Tween To Multiple Movieclips
I have several movieclip buttons that I want to apply AS tweened rollover and rollout actions to. I am able to create the functions and tweens for 1 and get them working fine, but am having trouble with applying this same functions to multiple movieclips. I am learning and trying to make my code as tight as possible, but I think I am confused.

Applying Tween To Array Of Clips

Motion Tween & Shape Tween In Same MC? How?
I have created a shape tween on my first layer. On my second layer I would like to create a motion tween. But the motion tween says it will not occur with layers with shapes or more than one group. Can anybody enlighten me a little bit on this.

What slows down a .swf file more?
I have a site I'm re-doing from scratch, and I see quite a few places I got lazy and used a lot of Movie Clips. I could use shapes and have the same result. The main .swf did suffer from a little slow down...
I've read most of the literature there is on the net [on this subject], and I was wondering what first hand experience some of you had?
I know you're going to say, "It depends...", but I mean...
as a rule... which plays faster/more taxing on the browser?

Shape Tween
Why whenever I use shape tween does Flash automatically assume that I want EVERY single line to merge? Here's what I did:
Drew an odd shape (kinda like a rectangle, only one side is slanted), filled it in with a different color that the lines, and group it together. I grouped it so I could resize the whole thing together with the Free Transform tool. In my first frame of my tween the shape is very small. During the tween, it doesn't expand, it just shows the border lines doing all sorts of weird things inside the middle and then forming the shape. I tried both distributive and angular to no avail.
It's worked before, but it doesn't seem to be today. Is there any way to tell Flash that I just want it to look like its being EXPANDED and to not collapse on itself to reform the shape?

2.) I hit F7 in frame 10
3.) I make a different brush stroke
4.) I make a motion tween between 1 and 10
5.) Going into the properties area, I set the tween to shape tween.
A.) The shape tween is dashed
B.) There is no shape tweening
C.) It used to work in Flash 5.

Shape Tween
Hello all,
I've been out of flash for while (since version 5) and I seem to remember there was a way to shape tween an object to make it grow along the path that you define. I'm trying to make a tree "grow" from the base to the branches but flash just wants to skip from point A to B and garble it inbetween. Is there a way to mark the "growth" path or am I just old and crazy?

Can you help?
I have drawn in Flash a pipe with a U shape type bend and i would like to fill the pipe with water starting at one end to the other.
Evertime I try to do this the shape tween goes outside the outline of the pipe. I ve had a play with masks but am getting a bit stuck!
Does anyone know of a good way to do this or a similar tutorial?

Stumped here...anyone have any ideas.
I have a symbol on the stage, inside that symbol I made a layer.
Frame 1 stop ();
Frame 2-50 button normal state (shape tween to up state), stop (); on frame 50
Frame 51-100 button up state (shape tween to down state), stop (); on frame 100
Frame 101 to 150 button down (shape tween to normal state), stop (); on frame 150
I was going to use a "if" command in the AS and a "gotoAndPlay" command in the AS in frame 1. I know theres some flaws there but I cannot even get to the AS part of this. For some reason, no matter what I do, I cannot get the shape tween to work inside the symbol. Anyone have any ideas why this isnt working? I have shape tweens on the main stage in scene 1 and have no problem making them. Can I not create a shape tween inside a symbol?
As for the AS...is there an easier way to do this?

Hi guys, I have been searching for this on the messageboard, but I couldn't find what I am looking for.
motiontween with AS is no problem anymore, I get the basics. I can also make a fade in AS. But I am working on transisions which neet a shape tween.......and i have NO clue how that should work.
What I want is the reversed effect of water when you gently put it on a flat surface (you will see it spread in a very nice way, some parts go further then others).
I have this at the moment, but the "water" just flows away equally.
How can I do this?? any examples??

So I just started using Flash MX, I've had a lot of experience with Flash 4 and 5, but it's been a while since I've used it. MX seems great for the most part, but what happened to shape tweens?! Am I just missing them in there? All I can find are motion tweens and crazy effects. Transforms seem like an incredible over-complication of what used to be a really easy part of flash.

I am trying to do a rounded box that has shape tweens to bring it to it's final rounded box shape. The problem I am having is that when I create the shape in flash as I morph the shape it adds more toggle points. Any tip on how I can morph my shape with the exisitng toggle points without adding more?
I tried creating my shape in Illustrator and the copying the shape in but when i do that it never seems to shape tween the way I want.
Any help would really be appreciated.

So, I am trying to do a shape tween from text to a drawing I did with the pencil tool -- and I have broken aprt the text, and basically the shape tween works. However, on the second frame, the text immediately dissapears and then fades in while shape tweening to my drawing -- how can I avoid this from happening and just have the tween occur with no dissapearing?

Hi, attached is an fla (MX 2004 format).
Basically, I want the picture in the first frame of me to shape tween to the werewolf picture in the second frame.
The problem is that when I go to shape tween, things get very sluggish, and flash either completely shuts down, or I get a dumb-looking tween that doesn't look right.
Can somebody please just make it look like my face is transforming? Make it somewhere around 1-3 seconds long, or just so that it gets the job done, and isn't too big in size. Also, if you do get it to at least partially work, please give me some advice on how you went about doing it for future reference.

Have anyone got the solution to stop the animation slowing down when meeting with a extremely complicated shape tween?
Any ideas?
p.s. I made a full paragraph ( around 130 words ) to shape tween into a football, the thing gets crazy but the most annoying things are its coming down to 1fps (somewhere around that) from an 28fps movie.

Hi, I've been trying to find a solution to the problem all day via google and forum searches but no luck.
I have a box with rounded egdes imported into flash
traced bitmap
now i want this box to widen (extending the right had side of the box without altering the rounded edges.
I have tried:
1) cutting the right side of the box into a new layer and having this move left across the stage. success!
2) now i've cut a sliver of the remaining box and pasted it into a new layer hoping to stretch this across the stage at the same rate as the layer in '1)'. I've suceeded to extend it and it looks fine at the start and at the next key frame (where its exended) its all full size and looks exatly how i want it.
3) now i chose 'shape tween', click play and the box goes from original size to finish size while taking itself apart and stretching and moving bits of the box all over the place. At the end of the time line its all as i want it but how can i stop it doing this stupid transition bit?!
