Audio In Timeline
Is there a way to hear the audio that is place on a layer in flash without having to publish the file? I can get the audio to play if I start playing from the start of the timeline. But, I can't scrub the audio or start playing at a later point.

Controlling Timeline With Audio
I'm recreating a demo in Flash that I originally created in Director. The piece was timed by the voice over using the "if soundBusy" Lingo script. I've tried everything and can't get Flash to do this.
How do I create a piece that forces the playback head to loop in the current frame while a sound plays completely, then moves on to the next frame when the sound is finished.

Timeline Scrubbing = No Audio?
I have a long sound in one layer, and when I scrub my timeline, it doesn't play the sound for me. I've always had this problem on my mac, but never on my PC.
Any mac users know what the deal is here? don't make me have to edit my FLA on a PC!

Can't Preview Audio In Timeline
Anybody encounter this: I am unable to preview (hear) audio when I am scrubbing back and forth in the timeline. Also, if I press 'Enter' to preview my movie, the audio plays, and continues to play until the end of the audio file is reached, even if I stop playback of the movie. This problem cropped up quite suddenly, and is really bugging me.

Is there a way to import an audio file to flash and make the time line automatically stretch to fit the whole song?
I know about the sound object, but in this particular interaction, it is seated within' a master swf which does not allow exporting for actionscript.
Any ideas?
Timeline Audio Bugs In CS3
First of all, a very obvious bug in Flash CS3: if a streaming sound on the timeline ends, and there's empty space (with no new blank keyframe) at the end, and you start playing the timeline (by tapping Enter) at some point after the sound has ended but before the next keyframe, you will hear the sound as though it were on loop. However, if you started the timeline playback back when the sound was still supposed to be playing, it will end where it's supposed to. This only happens in CS3 and not actually in browsers, so it's not crucial, though it is very annoying and probably something small to fix.
More importantly: I don't have time to gather the exact details unfortunately, but in a 40 fps flash project with 160 kbps streaming audio, after around frame 9300, new streaming sounds would fail to trigger -- and shortly earlier in the timeline than that, new streaming sounds would play 'doubled', like with a short echo. These exact same sounds would function fine when placed much earlier in the timeline. I worked around the problem by exporting at 128 kbps instead of 160.
Has anyone else had trouble with either of these?
Timeline Audio Control?
Hi i'm developing a cd-rom that needs to have the voiceover and animation sync'd.. so the only way to ensure this really I believe is to place the audio voiceover in the actual timeline, instead of loading it into a sound object from the library.. So, my question is, is there anyway to control the sound of the timeline audio?.. is there a global sound volume control, such as an fscommand or something (since the cd-rom will be running it as a projector). I've looked around and its difficult to find an answer on this, as most people suggest using the sound object, but in this case that's probably not possible unless there is some tricky actionscript that could force it to sync to the timeline and framerate. (of course there's the concern there that on slower computers that solution wouldn't work)...
so if anyone can help me work this problem out that would be great, thanks!

Audio On Timeline (basic, I Hope)
Hope I'm posting this in the right category.
Although not too new to Flash (using MX), I don't have that much experience with adding and controlling audio. What I have is a timeline and I'm navigating throughout the timeline using many different buttons.
I have audio segments planned to go into different areas of the timeline and they play okay when I navigate to the given frame. The problem is with making it stop when navigating away from that frame and to another one, where I want another audio to start. Each audio file, by the way, is a voice over and therefore long.
What's the code for getting the sound to stop. I guess I would need to insert it in every button? Is it the same code on every button or do I need to mention every name of every sound object on every button separately? Do I need to put the sound into its own movie, first?
I've tried:
Sound.stop() at the on release of every button.

Audio Problems While Navigating On Timeline
I have a fairly long timeline (over 600 frames) that are the makings of an interactive cd. I need to navigate back and forth on it and all the visual elements are fine.
The problem is with the audio. I have a bunch of voiceovers that need to start and stop at various points on the timeline -- forward and backwards on the timeline.
I think I have each sound object done okay and the script I came up with for the audio works, but not dependably. With some yes, with others, no. And, I think it may be conflicting with my visual navigation at bit, too (all navigation works when no audio is brought into the picture.
Anyway, my strategy is to insert this code:

into each button. The theory is that when I use that button to go to that point on the timeline, the correct voiceover will run. In the meantime, each button has a bit of code (see above) that I'm using to turn off all of the other sounds (voiceovers), in case any of them are running at the time. All sounds in my library are listed above, except the one I'm tryingt to run. In the above script, the audio I'm trying to run is called "audioch2Intro" The id in the linkage is called "audioch2Intro01"
While the above code seems logical to me, Flash has a problem with it.
Please help. I'm on a deadline.
BTW: I'm using Flash MX.

How To Stretch An Audio File On Timeline
I would like to know if there is an easier way to add an audio file to the timeline than my current method.
Currently I import the file to the library. Then I select the first frame in the timeline and keep pressing F5 to add new frames until I get to the end of the audio file.
I am sure there must be an easier way to insert the exact number of frames to match the length of the audio file.

Enter Key In Timeline And Play Audio
This is strange and I can't find the setting in MS 2004 Professional v 7.2 4.0.0.32
An audio file is imported to the library.
The timeline is clicked on the audio layer - where the audio should begin.
The audio.wav file is dragged onto stage.
Now, this is done using a template, the same template on 3 different machines and same version of Flash.
This machine works the way we want it.
When the enter key is pressed while the timeline is selected, the movie plays and the audio is heard. If the enter key is pressed again, the audio stops as well as the mc. And audio is heard no matter where the timeline is began playing.
On to other machines, the audio will only play if at the beginning frame of the audio and if enter is pressed again, the mc stops but the audio keeps playing.
What or where is the setting for this?

Timeline Pause/audio Issues; Help

I am working on a swf animation for a client; the animation has voiceover during a construction timeline segment, and I have pauses in the timeline with the following code:

Everything works fine on the original play but they want buttons installed that will jump to different construction segments to review, etc. My problem is when i hit the button and it goes back to that frame (even when it lands on a pause frame) it forgets all about the pause delays after the first one in the actions layer. I don't understand why flash is ignoring the pause commands. Am I using the wrong pause code on the actions layer? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance!!!
Audio On Timeline Starts Before Swf Is Loaded?
Hi Experts-
I have an mp3 in the timeline of an intro swf, which a preloader loads with a progress bar. Inexplicably, the mp3 audio begins playing at 8%!!, although the swf visual content waits to start after 100% load, as it should.
I could understand if the audio was loaded into the intro swf by a URLRequest...but it is in the timeline of the intro. Any light shed on this will be greatly appreciated.

Audio Files Playing Once They Are Preloaded, Not With Timeline - Help :-)

I'm having a problem I can't seem to fix and my job may be on the line if I can't figure it out...
I've been given a flash project that was previously created, with directions to add sound clips to the .fla/swf files that play later in the project.
I dropped the sound files in the fla's at the appropriate times
BUT
when tested over the web, the sound files seem to be playing when they are "pre-loaded". Then then do play at the correct time later in the project.
Can anyone be so kind as to give me some direction as to what might be going on and how to fix? I'm really stuck.

Help...Audio Does Not Quit When Stopping Playhead On Timeline
When I've used audio previously, pressing ENTER will play the movie and audio. Pressing ENTER again stops the movie and the audio.
I inherited an fla and I've found that the audio is quirky. First, you cannot stop it once it starts playing. Second if you drag the playhead along the timeline, you get NO sound coming through at all (making it difficult to sync V.O. to animation). Third, while the preview movie is in synch (ctrl+enter), when publishing, the audio synch is off by as much as a two seconds (but only for a particular layers).
Has anyone seen this before? Is it a corrupted file or did the author tweak some settings with which I am not familiar.

Hearing Audio While Moving Red Timeline Square
I'm not extremely proficient with Flash and I'm using Flash MX to work on a small project. Somehow, I turned on the audio so that when you slide the red, timeline indicator square, you can hear the audio as it moves. Move it faster, it sounds like it's playing normally. Move it slower, and you can adjust images to show up on drum beats, etc.
I can't get it to do that again. I've not been able to find what item to turn on to make this work. The only way I can see how things are working is to goto the control menu and select play. But then it plays all the audio and I have to wait until it's done before I can play it again for the specific segment I'm looking for.
Can anyone help me get back to where the audio plays bit by bit as I move frame by frame though the move?

I would like some ambient music to play and loop in my main timeline while browsing my site, however I will also have some video clips that will be deployed with SlideShowPro in
one of my chapter sections.
I would like to have the main timeline audio playing on site load and everywhere else except
when my MC containing the SSP component is deployed.
then I would like the music to pause and continue when the participant exits the page. (or better yet stopped and started on movie start and stop, but hey I'm not pushy)
any suggestions?

New Audio Tracks - Flv Won't Advance To Next Frame On Timeline
I've just read all previous posts (I think) on the topic of flvs not playing completely. The solutions haven't worked, and my problem is slightly different.
We have many swfs that play external .flvs using the FLVPlayback component. They've worked just fine. Recently we had the audio translated to other languages and put into our original QT movies. Then we re-encoded them as flvs. Now the videos play all the way through, but when they're done they seem to get stuck on the last frame of the video instead of proceeding along the .fla timeline.
I tried re-encoding in QT at 44.1, per the solutions found on the web and this forum, but it didn't make any difference.
We are using the following ActionScript to control the movies (given to me very kindly last year by someone smart on this forum):

Controling Volume Of Timeline Streamed Audio
I have audio that is streamed into the main timeline of a movie clip. I'm trying to control the volume with a slider but having some problems with it. I can control the volume of audio that I attach from my library. But this one needs to have the audio streamed into the timeline because it is synched to some other animations.
How can I control the volume like this? I have no way of giving an instance name to the audio because it's on the timline where I need it to be?

Streaming Audio Restarts When It Reaches The End Of The Timeline

the site in question is thirdcache.com - i've got streaming audio playing as background music, however after someone clicks the stop all sounds button it stops, however when the background music reaches the end of it's timeline, it starts back up again. How do i get it to stop forever? Also, how do i get this button to have two functions, off and on.. without embedding the audio, I want it to start and stop the streaming audio.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Can Flash Detect Realtime Audio Data? (for Linking Visuals To Audio Velocity, Etc)
I've seen a lot of Oscilloscopes for Flash but they've all been fake - they simply generate random patterns that look convincing, expecially if the sound is erratic and would produce chaotic oscilloscope feedback anyway, but they actually have no connection whatsoever to the sounds that are playing.
I've heard people claim however that real oscilloscopes can actually be made in Flash, and I was wondering if anyone could point me towards some resources for looking into it.
I have a distinct feeling that they are probably misguided or just plain incorrect anyway, but it's still a prospect that interests me a lot.

What they want instead of JUST an audio player, is a player that plays certain "secret" audio files if you enter the correct 6 digit number. So imagine a text field and a submit button next to the < || > controls. I'm still getting to know Flash and I have no idea how to create something like this. Anyone have any advice? Any tutorials out there? Info? and finally...this IS possible right?

I have tried so many audio methods to try and get a pause button that works and allows the audio to start streaming as soon as the movie starts.
I tried this tutorial at macromedia but it needs the sound to fully load or the sound_mc doesnt exist using

Audio Player/playing Audio Files Externally (mp3)
I've designed the audio player with all of the necessary buttons. I'm trying to play the mp3 files in an consecutive order. I am having trouble stopping or pausing, rewinding and fast-forwarding the mp3 file. I also have a next button and a back button and I don't know how to get them to work either. I have a slider, but can't get it to work either. Please help! I tried to follow the tutorial on flash kit, but wasn't quite understanding it. I would greatly appreciate this if someone could lend their knowledge and support.

Audio Volume Sliders For Multiple Channels Of Audio
I don't even know if this is possible, but I was wondering if there was any way you can set up volume sliders to control multiple channels of audio. For a project I'm working on I am going to have background audio and comentary. I want the user to be able to adjust the volume of both the background audio and the comentary. Is there any was I can make seperate sliders for each of those tracks of audio?

Stopping Audio And Starting Another Audio When Button Clicked

I have a multiple slide document, and I want sound to stop when they click the "Next" button, and another audio clip to start. Here is what I have so far:

OnDrag:scroll Thru Timeline / OnRelease: How To Resume Playing The Timeline
i want to scroll thru the timeline by dragging a slider. (just like scolling thru QT) framenumber will be calculated based on slider._x.
when release slider, timeline should play from that point normally
when i stop dragging the slider, the procedure of gotoAndPlay(calculatedFramenumber)does not stop and movie sticks on that frame where slider-button was released.

Controlling A Movie Clip's Timeline Separately From Main Timeline
I've got a problem here that I've been trying to figure out for a while now, and it seems like it should be way easier than this. Here's what I've got:
I'm trying to make a neato little flash swf with lots of buttons that you can push and another little movie clip will show some little animation.
I thought I could get this done pretty simply by making a bunch of buttons, giving them an over, down, hit, sound, etc. and then having one single movie clip do all of the animations, but cleverly use stop(); and gotoandplay();
I have tried a few different ways, searched through the help & tutorials, looked all over forums on the internets, and I still can't get this to work. The main timeline is really just 1 frame, and its only purpose is to just hold all of the buttons. I have given all of the buttons instance names (ending with _btn). There is a separate layer in the main timeline for the actionscript alone, and was hoping to put all of the gotoandplay commands there. The code that I am trying to use in that frame is:

The productzmovie_mc has a command to stop(); in the first frame, and I am trying to get a button to skip to the next frame to get it going. I put a stop(); on the last frame of that animation so that it won't run through the whole thing on the first button press. If I remove that stop(); on the first frame, the whole animation just runs whenever I test it and the button has no effect.
I thought this would be way simpler than making 25 separate movie clips and hiding them or spawning them. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong here? This seems like a pretty simple operation, and I am probably screwing up some mundane detail (I always do that). Be gentle, I am trying to learn Flash and I am a bigtime n00b. I can post the .fla if you need to see it, but it's pretty simple so far, just lots of buttons.

Flash Audio Player For Streaming Audio
I am working on our church's website and am trying to add mp3 sermons for our visitors to listen to. I have a player that I downloaded but is has some problems, for some reason it will play 2 files at the same time, sometimes it says file not found and I am not sure why. I do not have the FLA file just the SWF that was on the website for download so I can't make any changes. Can anyone tell me how to make a flash audio player with play, stop, pause, rewind and fast forward buttons. Or if anyone has a sample player that I could use for my church, I need it as small as possible and do not need a playlist. Any help would be great.
ActionScript Differences Between Main Timeline And Movie Timeline?

Could someone explain the difference if Action Script is on the main timeline or in a movie clips time line which is on the main timeline?
I guess I mean is with regards to referring to other items or movie clips or external scripts etc.
To try and clarify what i'm going on about....
I have a form that uses a php script. The form.swf is brought into my main movie with 'loadmovie' action script.
When the form.swf is run on its own it works. When someone enters the info and hits 'send' the form gets what it needs from the php script and then goes to a 'sucsess' frame. Great.
But..
When the form.swf is run from within my main movie and someone hits 'send' the form goes to my 'fail' frame (even though it is sending the email), the php script is returning a 'fail - invalid email entered' message to the flash form (the email was valid though!!).
Because the form.swf works on its own I'm guessing that, when loaded into the main movie, i need to add something to make it talk to the php properly.
The odd thing is that it must be talking to the php as it is sending the email!!! So why is the php sending back a 'fail' and not a 'success'.
It could be that the form.swf is just not getting a response from the php and so it going to the fail frame. In which case, if my form movie is within my main movie what do i add to the php (or action script) to receive the info to the nested movie.
I cant work it out.

Play Movie In Timeline But Keep Main Timeline In Place

Scenerio: You are at frame 1 of the timeline and it's stopped, you hit a button and it jumps you to frame 20 and then at frame 20 a movie clip plays.
Question. Can I have that movie play for however long I want (let's say it's a 100 frame movie) BUT have my main timeline still sit on frame 20? And then when the movie is done playing it goes to frame 21 of the main time line? Currently I have to make my main timeline be the same length as any movie I have in it, and so my main timeline ends up being an absurdly long.
Just a general answer will help - which action scripts would I be looking to use (I'm using Flash 8 Pro)?

Playing Timeline In Reverse Mode (the Whole Timeline, Not A MC)

I have to make a flash book where you can view each page forward and backwards - as if you were actually reading the book by clicking on a next or back button depending on what you wanna do.
My problem is: I have the main timeline and all the animations are placed there without using any MCs.
i know a similar topic has been covered hundred of times on this forum, but i didn't found anything covering this specifical issue.
All topics refer to MC's placed on the timeline, but i have all my stuff on the main timeline, without any mc's, so.... i have to ask

Movie Clip Timeline Vs. Main Timeline
Ok, i have made a movie clip in Swift 3d and have imported it into Flash MX. Now it is in the first frame as flash will place it there and what i would like to have happen is to tell frame 1 that when the movie clip's timeline ends and stops(frame 90) to then move the parent timeline to continue with stuff
If any one reads this please help or refer me to a MX book that is worth the valuble time we think we have!

Child MC Timeline Controlling _root Timeline
I have a main Timeline which holds a child MC. The Child MC (text01aMC) runs to a length of 156 frames (text fades up and fades down). I'm trying to move the main time line forward one frame once the child clip has reached frame 156.
I'm using the following code:

Looping Timeline W/ Delay Swf Imported To New Timeline
I'm pretty new at this and I may be having a conceptual problem. I made a movie that loops with an action script delay. That part works fine. When I preview it plays the way I want it to with a delay before it loops again. Then I export to a swf. On my new movie I "import to library" the swf file. Then I drag it onto a keyframe on my timeline. The clip plays fine but the delay I had in the action script doesn't seem to work anymore. I'm sure there must be something wrong with the way I'm going about this. Is there some other way to delay the imported movie loop?

There is the frame in my main timeline which has a movie symbol and when the timeline heads reaches & stops at this frame & start playing the movie symbol timeline, i want that when the timeline head reaches at the end frame of the movie symbol timeline, it should take me to the any frame number/label of the main timeline i want.
I tried adding the action to the end frame of the movie symbol to take me to a different frame of the main timeline but it doesn't do anything. It remains at the same frame of the main timeline.
Is there any way out?

Help With Audio. Can Anyone Hear The Audio On These Pages ?

I am trying to add some sound testimonials to my site and was wondering if anyone could help. My problem is I am not all that familiar with Flash MX.
I have put up two pages through trial and error on my site

What I did in the second example http://www.121dreamweavertutorial.com/georgina.html was get the lady to give the testimonial as a .wav file which she then sent to me.I then went into Flash MX and exported it as a .swf file into Dreamweaver.
The problem I am having is that some people can hear the audio and some can't when entering the above pages.
I can only imagine that some people do not have the correct plugins installed. My problem is I dont know how to ensure that people can hear the testimonials, what code is needed etc.
If some one could look into these pages and see what the problem is I would be so grateful.

Main Timeline Vs Mc Timeline Smackdown
I've made a little animation in a mc several instances of which sit looping on the main timeline.
I want these mcs to load at intervals on the main timeline, frame 1, 5, 10 etc. (a kind of twinkling stars thing if you must know.)
The problem is the main timeline overrides the mc's timeline.
I was able to sort of fix this by shortening the main timeline, but I can see this solution is not satisfactory for any number of reasons, and even at the most basic level it seems erratic.
Obviously my understanding of this issue is too theoretical and not practical enough, or the other way around.
How can I force the main timeline to really accept the mc timeline instead of just pretending to?
A Timeline Application? (NOT The Flash Timeline)
Hi All,
I'm looking for something I can use to create timelines for a web application I'm building.
When I say "Timelines", I dont mean the "flash timeline". I mean something like this: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/50/images/site/timeline-small.jpg
I've seen and used lots of handy flash chart applications, like "PHP/SWF Charts"
I'd like something just like that, but only to create timelines with.
Any ideas where to look? Google is no help cause if I search "Flash" and "Timeline" together, i get millions of results for THE flash timeline. :(
I'm willing to pay a bit for it too, so its alright if its not free.

I have a variable set in the actual frame on the main-timeline but the movieclip doesn´t catch that, when traced I get undefined. Can I send a value from the main-timeline to a moviclips timeline?

Control Of Main Timeline From Another Timeline
Working in Flash Pro 8 (on a Mac), I've got a movie clip on the main timeline. Within the movie clip is a button which, upon pressing, reveals a series of three more buttons.
My objective here is that when you press any one of those given buttons that are within the single button that is within the movie clip an instance of which is on the main timeline that it will take you back to a specific frame on the main timeline.
I am having a devil of an unsuccessful time with the concept of connecting back to the main parent timeline from a child timeline.
Any words of direction on how this is accomplished would be, as usual, appreciated.
