Flash :: Autorun Issue: Can't Browse Disk

Want To Make A "browse" Button To Browse Users Pc
Anyone know of a component or just a way to make a visual that the user can view and browse their computer to attach a file from their computer to a submit form? Basically it would function similiarly to the "Browse" button at the bottom of this page. Thanks.

Hello all. This is a rather urgent problem seeing that I need Adobe Flash to finish a school project, and it's not working.
I intend to buy it once my trial version expires (flash is awesome) but for my school project I'm using the trial version. Anyway, my problem is this: I downloaded the trial version from Adobe's website, and it downloaded the 'ADBEFLPRCS3_WWE.exe' file. I unpacked the contents of the file and clicked 'run' when I was finished. setup.exe started up, and everything was fine and dandy, until it actually began the install. it had hardly begun to install when I got the following message: 'Please insert Adobe Flash CS3.' I was astounded, I downloaded the trial version, how was I supposed to insert a disk? I don't know what to do and I have to have Flash so I can do my project! What am I supposed to? How am I supposed to install?

Download To Disk?
I am wroking on an CD-ROM, and i have one small problem. The CD contains a feature for users to download templates in either .doc and .xls file types. Here' is my question. Is it possible to have flash prompt the user for download or save to disk. Just like on the web. I've tried the "GetURL" command, with these files and it seems to open them just fine. However is there any way to engage the "Save to Disk" screen?? If somebody could help me out i would be forever thankfull.

Whenever someone newbie asks the q "How to save a txt to my HD" the answer seems to be "it must be done trough a serverside-script". But is this realy so? First of all... I have seen a few samples where flashers try using the command.com file to create the txt and then tranfer the vars from flash to the txt. But these samples doesnt work om my computer... the we have the posibility of other languges like Basic.. Visual Basic can save files to a hd if we tranfer the variables... what about java? is there any posibilities there? Some views on the matter form a flashpro out there?

Is it possible for a Flash swf runninng in a browser (IE) to write files to disk? If it can, how do I do that?

I want to build a CD ased Flash Presentations where a suer could bookmark a certain page, and when the user returns to the presentation, he has the option to return to his saved bookmark.

I am trying to create a button that (on release) will download (save to disk) .jpg images. I know that browsers are currently set to display image type .jpg's not download like zips. Do I need to create a header for the file, so that browsers will not recognize the extension and by default go to 'save to disk'? Or is there a java script that will accomplish this?

I am going live soon with the site so any help would be greatly appreciated

MP4 Video On Dvd Disk?
OK i know its VERY off topic but.....
I need to put MP4 files on DVD disk to watch in my dvd player
It does MP4 video along with many other types too so it should work!
BUT When i added the MP4 files to disk it didnt work and didnt recognise the disk.
my main questions are
1) do i have to include the .THM file (thumbnail)
2) do they have to be in a certain folder layout like dvd's?
e.g Video_TS

Flash.exe - No Disk (v8)
I've recently installed Vista Ultimate 32 and I'm in the process of reinstalling all my applications.

I installed Flash and did some work. No problem. However, today I removed the cd and put it away (as I do when I'm done with it) and now when I launch flash, it get this alert window saying:

There is no disk in the drive, Please insert a disk into drive E:. (my cd drive)

I checked the shortcut dependency and it's normal:

C:Program FilesMacromediaFlash 8Flash.exe

So what's going on?

Also, and this has happened before, I was never asked to input my key. The first time I installed it, going back some three years ago, I entered my key and registered. After that though, it stopped asking. I just figured, meh, it knows its legit from the cd so it's not going to ask me anymore. *shrug* I don't know.

So what am I missing?

Exporting Everything Onto A Disk -- Help
hey everyone, so i'm almost finished my final product on flash, but i wasn't sure if there was a certain way i had to save the files before i put it on a disk.

It is put it on a disk right? My finished product is like a "portfolio" where thers navigation bars and whatever, and so i'm not sure how i should save this so that any other computer can look at it too. Can someone help me with this?? thanx

I´ve been trying to find the way how to save fmpdsoresult to disk (server)

I can get the fmpdsoresult into Flash with no problem, but
I would like to save the fmpdsoresult-xml-file to disk, and the use that file
in flash. The reason is that every time flash enters or refreshes makes a new
query to filemaker and that I don't like, and also if the filemaker-server is in maintenance, my flash movie is info-dead.

I know that you can trigger a php file from the server automatically.

Saving Information To A Disk
My name is Biff Stephens and we are in need of some help with flash. We have had a inquiry about saving information from a flash interactive to a floppy. This information would be in the form of a student’s answers or even progress with-in the interactive. This is above our working knowledge of flash and we would love to be able to get some help about instructions on how to incorporate this feature into our flash work.

I have looked for tutorials and books covering this subject and it looks as thought you can save to a text file or to a Coldfusion database but nothing to a floppy. I realize the text file coule be saved to a floppy but for a 8 year old that might be a little rough.

Swf Filesize Different In Preloader Than On Disk
hello.. the subject says it all really, I'm guessing its got something to do with some embedded fonts that I'm using, but if the fonts are embedded as vectors, surely that would show up in the filesize??

My swf is 153k on disk (and in MX's bandwidth profiler, and when I ftp it). However, when the preloader kicks in there are 325k to load...

I need to set up a button that when clicked downloads a pdf to the users disk - rather than just open the pdf in acrobat via the browser.

Saving Files To Disk
I think I posted this question last week sometime but I got no repsonce. Anyway I'm in the process of making a CDrom splash screen in flash. I have various links to documents on the the CDrom.

Some of these links I want to directly download the files to the Hard drive. (just like if you right click and save-as in IE).

Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this??

Output To Local Disk
I am wondering if this is a possibility with flash. I would like flash to load a jpg from my SQLdatabase (the database connection is complete) , then edit the photo with line drawings and coloring, then output the edited jpg to the users local disk. I collegue is telling me that flash can not output to local disk...is that true? could it inherit a JS that would allow it?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Problems With Disk Permissions
I seem to be having a problem with disk permissions between flash and Photoshop both yesterday/ today I was having some real problems with a flash build all worked good then yesterday I built and boom I kept getting security errors and I banged my head off the desk a few dozen times then hit me this morning when I found that the old version I pulled from my public server (which worked there) no longer worked on my development machine. I thought ohhh there must be something wrong with my machine and since I have had problems with permissions before (mostly in photoshop) I figured what the hell I'll I run permissions and sure enough it fixed the problem.

Ok so enough of my ranting has anyone else experienced this problem ?

How Do I Save Something To Disk From Flash.

I want to make a Flash Script that allows me to save a few coordontes to a file on disk. I have seen it done with Flash but I couldn't find the functions that allow me to do that.

I have another question I cannot find answer to: how do I drow a line in Flash. More specific: I want to draw a line from the point I pressed the mouse to where I release it. ( or from where I clicked first time to where I clicked the second time).

Can anybody give me a hint !!?

i have built a textField which receives input from a localConnection. the content is regularly updated.

i would the users to be able to save the content to disk, as a simple text file with line breaks, and paragraphs, that can be opened on Win and Mac.

is there a way of doing it with actionscript, or would i have to use php or other?

Animation Of A Spinal Disk
you learn something everyday...

I need to animate a spinal disk, a cross between an onion, rubber bands and an egg sandwich.

if that makes any sense

in short when you lean forward the "yoke" moves back, and the rubberband/onion bit surrounding the yoke streaches and compresses, held together with two pieces of bread top and bottom.

from side...

however from the top its like a circle, and so the ability to make it look like it is compressing in one area and streaching in another is beyond me.

any great animator tips? thanks

Save Txt Offline To Disk?
iv made a little flash program that gets its configeratin / running settings from a file called config.ini

basically config.ini is just filled with setting variables like

autoplay=0&showmenu1=1&showmenu2=0 etc.

Now i want to make a GUI editor for this config.ini, i know its possible with mm director, but its been a while since ive used that package.. :-S. If the GUI had to be online i could do it with flash and php but its got to work offline.

Preferably id like to make the editor with just FlashMX. All the editing part is easy, with the fields and the selections BUT how do i save the settings to my config.ini??

I know flashMX has XML capabilities which iv used before (mostly the object.Load and Save functions) but i cant find an option to save info to an external txt file..

any help apreciated.

.swf Filesize - 20KB On Disk, But Says 40+ On D/l.
Just curious as to why one of my .swf files registers as 20 KB on disk, but my preloader displays it at 40+ KB. Also noticing that when testing the movie the bandwidth profiler says something about it streaming the same size. Thx!

For a CD presentation I want to load some JPEGs dynamically (MX) and when they are clicked on (or a button over or next to) a save as dialogue appears to allow the user to save a copy to their PC.

Downloading An Mp3 To Disk From A Flash Button?

I have built a site that has mp3's on it that are to be downloaded to disk to be burnt to CD. It is an internet CD basically. I have the buttons in my Flash movie which basically have a getUrl action pointing to mp3 files on a different server.

When I click on the mp3 on this page, my browser downloads the mp3 in the BG and opens it in the QT player leaving me no option to save file. I have another page built the same way with similar buttons that when clicked, in the same browser, open up the download manager and automatically download it to the harddrive before playing it. I am stumped!!! Why does it work with one fla and not the other?

I realize that how the browser handles these mp3's when the button is clicked is dependent on how the end user has their browser set up. The overall problem is, there is no way to right click on the button (as you can in HTML) and "download link to disk". Or is there???

Is there a way to work around this problem and have the file download to the hard drive without having to: have the user change their browser preferences, build the page in HTML instead , or zip the mp3 files?

I'm creating a flash based CD that has 10 or so images that will be dynamically loaded in the swf movie. What I want to be able to do is give the user the option of saving the image file to their computer.

I'm pretty handy with flash but certainly not an Actionsript guru, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Read And Write To Floppy Disk

Is it possible to use Flash to create, write to / overwrite and append a txt.file. I can get it to read in no problem - but unable to create it initially. If this is possible the next problem is saving it to a specific location - ideally a users floopy disk. Obviously this has security implications etc and i suspect it is a no-no, but i need to check first before telling my client that. They do not want a database system to store anything but all of the uses will have their own floppies with their info stored on it - I know - dont ask.

A step further - ideally they actually would want to output/create from flash a word doc or pdf file - again storing info that could be read back in? - have never seen anything like this - is the creation of these document types even feasible from Flash? never mind retreival of the data?

Hi I recnetly bought Flash 8 Professianal and I want to be able to use it at school because they only have crappy MX, so I installed it on my Flash drive it worked on all the computers in my house but not at school, at school i get this software is damaged and needs to be reinstalled, but I take it home and it works.

I want to be able to perform a check at the top of my flash movie.
if hard drive that is running the file is of a certain size then continue with the movie, otherwise i want to put up a sceen that says "Sorry..Illegal"
