Flash :: Blur Pixel Font On A Mac. But Not On A PC

Pixel Font Blur In Flash (any Version)
Hey guys!

I've a question to ask you, so if anyone knows the answer to this one, please reply! This is kind of urgent..

In Flash, if i try to use pixel fonts they tend to become blurry..no matter what I do, i can't seem to get past this problem. Can anyone tell me what to do to get rid of that nasty blurry effect? (see the attached swf)

Parts Of Text Blur When Using Pixel Font
I am using a pixel font, but on some pages (external swfs) I have like a paragraph and some of the sentences within the paragraph are blurred. Anyone know why?

I am using it a 8 pt, and have it positioned at whole numbers.

Pixel Font Blur (Duplicated Text Fields)
I apologise for yet another bloody pixel font question, every requirement has been followed:

Dynamic Text, embedded, size 8, coordinates rounded. Even when I publish the movie at low, the text is still blurred in places but clear in the center(See Image).

The text fields are being duplicated, and the text is imported from XML. Any ideas folks?

What Makes A Pixel Font A Pixel Font?
I am trying to find out why, in Flash, pixel fonts remain alias at small sizes, but so far, all I have heard is "because they are very small fonts". Isn't there a complete, technical explanation as to what pixel fonts have that normal fonts don't?

If you know the technicalities about computer fonts (or if you are a font designer), I will very much appreciate your help. I am certain it will help many others, as there is little information easily available on this subject.

Hey hello peeps.!! again me with my newbie problems... not what i have is a bluring one.. my pixel fonts keep bluring. ive tried the dynamic text thing but as they are placed in buttons it is not like the right solution.. :S

What Causes The Blur To My Pixel Fonts?
the text field is set on a pixel (300, 149)
when i export it as flash 7 the text becomes slightly off pixel a bit blurry
however when i export this as flash8 its perfectly readable and sharp.

the text field is indeed masked, and its a static text set to: Anti-alias for animation.

What causes it to blurr when i export as flash 7?

Need A 16pt + Pixel Font ? Also - Font Outlines?
Hi there,

firstly, im trying to include my font outlines on my dynamic text box - but when i view the file, its all squashed up, not how it is meant to be (By using the character button, and including uppercase and lowercase).

Does this mean that it cant export my font (as per the help file - some fonts cant be exported).

Also - does anyone know of a nice, clean, crisp looking free font which will work good around 16pt ?

Is A Font A Pixel/Flash Font Or Not ?
Hello all,

For all the fonts I have, how can I tell if they are Pixel/Flash fonts or not ??

I have unfortunately created my very first Flash site not realizing that not all fonts work well with Flash presentations - The current font ( Zurich ) I am using makes the text look fuzzy and faded.

I do have other options, but how can I tell if a particular font is a Pixel/Flash font ??

Device Font Vs Pixel Font
I didn't use device fonts before but i am really satisfied with them now, they look almost good as pixel at smaller sizes(some letters r not perfect) and they r free :-). Ofcourse there is only 3 type and only _sans is really good for job :-). So i am wondering is there some special reason i should use some Miniml standard font if i can use device font _sans which is really similar (or the same) as Arial used in HTML. What is this device font anyway? why didn't MM make more of this device fonts? Anyway i am pretty satisfied with them, do you use them?

p.s.
still this font cannot be animated(put at some angles other then 0 )

Blur Font's On A Mac (not PC)
Hi,

I'm having a problem with my website. The website is Auto resize
(100%100). When viewed on a 17" or larger the text appears oke..
But any smaller and it's to much blurred.

I've read a lot about pixel fonts & the problem with normal fonts,
that get blurred. I replaced the font for _sans. But as far as I understand you can't use Auto resize with pixel fonts ? When I try to resize the window the text jumps out of its border..

1. I really don't want to stop using auto resize
2. I want to have sharp small fonts. ( movie size is less important)

I have tried everything...for rendering de font:
Embedding font
Embedding font with font in library
Dynamic font bla font this font.

Why is the font of the logo still blurry. Why is flash not rendering it good.
Or is it cause i have a TFT flatscreen where al the tiny squares just make me for a fool.

Any suggestions??

Dynamic Text + Embeded Font = Blur
First my problem was that the font I was using (static text) was once rendered, blury... then somebody told me that if I put the text dynamic + no selectable area it would become clearer...

Everything worked out fine until I realised that the text once dynamic is not imbeded in the swf so I had to choose to imbed the text in the swf... (properties window/characters)... resulting in the text becoming blurry again once rendered in the swf!

what should I do guys...any Ideas????

My last option is to use another font wich I dont want to do obviously!

Also something weird happened... when you embed the font and your dynamic field is larger that necessary ...flash just enlarge the font so it can fill all the space that you've put there... resulting in a way too big font rendering.... So i guess I have to calculate what I need in space for my dynamic field! Am I right????

STAGE/LISTENER Font BLUR Issue

I've searched through several threads and haven't found an answer to this issue. Im using Flash 8 and have a background that resizes and content that stays centered on the stage. I'm using a pixel font at the correct size but can't seem to make the font stop blurring when the window is resized (not that the text stays the same size just blurs)

I've tried anti aliasing (both for animation and legiblity) but nothing seems to work.

does anybody have an answer

Hey everyone, can you please help:

I've recently installed some cool pixel fonts on my computer and tried to use them in my Flash projects. Pray tell me why everything look perfect in the workspace but as soon as i export it and view it, I get blurry text. I think its something to do with the antialias text function in Flash MX.

What if i don't want it exporting antialias text?

How do I switch off this antialais text in my exported movies??

iv read quite a few tutorials regarding pixel fonts and anti aliasing but i have a problem, if i change a pixel font to dynamic then embed the font outlines, the font turns out blurred, but if i remove font embeding its crisp and clear but wont work unless u have the font installed on your system. iv seen sites like minml.com and fontsforflash.com that use pixel fonts perfectly by embeding them, any idea y? also wondering, ummmmmmmm what exactly is the function of the option to use a new font in the library? i mean when u press cltrl l and click on the one library icon i can use another font there by inserting it, does that import the font directly into the flash file so instead of using a font currently on your system it uses the font wich was imported into flash? iv read the tutorial provided with flash about this but i cant figure it out.

I'm a little confused about the whole dynamic text/static text/aliasing/antialiasing thing. I have a combination of display copy and paragraphs of body copy (which will probably load from extenal .txt files) in my movie, and I want them all to be in the same unifom, crisp pixel font. How should I proceed?

Where Did My Pixel Font Go?
I'm trying to use a pixel font (LipoD-Nine) and when I go to Test Movie I get a warning that says that ... " The font can't be converted to outlines because the outline font is not available... " and the font just disappears from the movie. Even when I go back to the working file some of the pixel fonts have vanished there too.

Anyone help or have any suggestions?

I've designed a pixel font in fontographer.
The problem is that whenever i use it in flash, in the swf. file the "closed" letters (example: a, o, b etc.) are painted black.

Why Is My Pixel Font Doing This?
When I load my pixel font into my mc and scroll down, everything looks fine and clear until about 3/4 of the way down, then they turn blurry but towards the bottom of the text box, they go back to clear. I simply copied the text from an html file and stuck it into my text box (no kearning or line space adjusting was invloved.) What could cause this and how do I fix this.

oh, also, with this particular text scroller setup (thanks Claudio) can anyone help me load this text from an external file? Ive tried what I thought was right, loadVars to a container MC but all I got was a message inside my conatiner mc saying _level0.containername.filename. ideas? sorry for the length on this one.

Here is what i did.
On the main stage of my movie i created a dynamic text field,
Wrote my text in my Super Pixel Font
Converted the text to a graphic symbol
And then used the tweening motion to slowly fade in the text on the main timeline of the movie.
It works perfectly but i just want to have the title in bold.

Can someone explain to me why the "November" News entry seems to have blurring occuring on the righthand side of the dynamic text field? I've done all of the manipulating that I can do in order to rid it of this blur, but with no success. It's lying on a whole number, its 8pt, normal, left justified... all of the typical pixel font requirements.

I'm stumped and it just looks like crap.

Pixel Font Problem
Sorry to sound a real noob, but this one has always baffled me and now i'm having trouble getting it to work for a client.

The problem is this: I want to use dynamic text fields in a dropdown menu and I want to use a small, sharp, pixel font - namely 'FAT'. Only to get the font sharp I need to select device font (in which case I end up looking at Arial on my client's machine), or simply set it as static - something I can't do 'cos they have to be dynamic!

Is there any way of having sharp (no outline) unusual fonts in dynamic text fields?

I know this is a much asked question and that I will no-doubt be told to do a search. Which I've done, countless times, only to be told in resulting posts to 'do a search'. There isn't actually a definitive answer to the problem, which would indicate that maybe it's a simple thing that just isn't possible in Flash?

Could any body point me in the direction of a scroller that will work with pixel fonts?

Ive got a scroller at the moment but it blurs the pixel fonts due to the fact that it scrolls inbetween pixels

what I need to do is have one so that it only scrolls the movie to whole number pixel coordinates

More Pixel Font Annoyances
i bought the font "benchmark" and can use it to nice, clear effect if i only have short bits of text.
however, i want a big block of text.

here's the strange thing: if i switch on snap to pixels and zoom in lots, i can get it so that every letter is in the squares - on whole pixels. i do this by playing with the line spacing (-0.1 seems to work well). i then zoom to 100% and it all looks perfectly clear.

however, when i then test movie, the first line is fine, the second is fine and then the third is blurred. there are patches of blurred lines like this - it goes from clear to blurred and back several times before the bottom.

so i go back to the editing screen and i switch off line spacing - reset it to 0. it looks nasty in the editor, and zooming in shows that every few lines the letters are going away from whole pixels. but when i test move or export to flash player it looks fine.

or so i think until i look closer. now from left to right i get clear, blurred, clear, blurred. up and down it is all fine, but left to right it looks awful.

i can't play with kerning becuase i need this to be a dynamic text field (so i can have a scrollbar).

i am certain the font is the right size - this font needs 10pt rather than the pixel font standard 8pt. 8pt looks nasty no matter what i do.
i am pretty sure that the text box is not resized at all - or at least "remove transformations" has no effect.

grrr.

Im using pixel fonts in a flash website im making and they show up just fine, but once converted into a movie clip the text goes blurry.
Is there a way of stopping this and if so how?

Pixel Font Still Blurry
Alright I've searched through the forums and have done everything regarding how to use pixel fonts and make them sharp and clear.

Here is what I've done so far:
1. Used specified size (8)
2. Font is on whole coordinates (x,y)
3. Used static text because I read that Flash 5 has a problem displaying pixel fonts in dynamic text.
4. Left-justified
5. Tryed checking 'Device Fonts' in text properties, but the pixel font became some other font like Times on another computer.

I also noticed that the pixel fonts will become sharp when published at 'low' quality, however I also have images in my swf file which becomes affected when not published in 'high' quality.

If it helps, I'm using font 'Org_v01' from http://www.orgdot.com/aliasfonts/

Please help, I'm a newbie. Thanks.
