Brush Tool And Eraser Tool Troubles
i've been using flash for over a year and a half and i've NEVER came across this problem.

when i go inside a movieclip to edit it, it won't let me use the brush tool or eraser.

unless i draw a circle around the area i want brushed or erased.

what the crap did i do?

keep in mind that it works normal when i'm on the main timeline.

Rough Brush Tool
Does anyone else have problems with the brush tool in Flash 5 or MX? All of my lines are rough and jaggey, Flash doesn't seem to be smoothing out the lines like it does in v4. Any suggestions?

Problem With The Brush Tool
I've been using the Brush tool just fine as a secondary stroke function for quite a while on my Flash MX 2004 program.

However, today I started working on my animation project and all of a sudden my brush tool wouldn't work. I would draw the stroke and it would disappear.

I checked and checked and it turned out that I was using a correct non-locked layer to draw on, so this shouldn't be a problem.

On further investigation I noticed that my brush tool, if I was to draw in a circle would make a circle FILLED by the brush color. So apparently I had to draw in circles for the brush stroke to show similar to how Illustrator works.

But I don't want it to do that, is there a way I can make it go back to a secondary "stroke" tool?

Create Own Brush Tool
Does anyone know how to create their own brush tool?? you know like in photoshop? You just use one tiny image and when you click & drag your mouse the effect will be seen in SWF.

Laggy Brush Tool On Windows XP.
Ever since I got Windows XP on my systems, the brush tool in any version of Flash (mx, 5 and 4) lags like there's no tomorrow. I want to finish my artist portfolio; Flash is my main drawing application and now it's backstabbing me. it looks quite like this:

Flash CS4 3D Spray Brush Tool
I would like to recreate the twinkling stars animation as shown on this page for the 3D Spray Brush Tool:

How is the randomness of the twinkling achieved? When I made a movie clip of a star that dissolved in and out, all the stars pulsated simultaneously. Is there a specific tutorial for that? I'd hate to think that Adobe pulled some sort of sleight of hand to fool us into thinking it's so easy.

Also, I want to do a "Star Wars" opening credits type of animation, where the type crawls in perspective. I tried crawling type (as a movie clip) vertically inside of a movie clip that was angled back, but in the SWF, the type if flat-on. What's up with that?

Paint Brush Tool Using Flash
I am making a paintbrush tool in Flash.
Though almost finished i am facing the implementation of selection tool.
When I select an object thru the selection and scale it scale abnormally. Plz help me resolving this.

Steps to replicate:
click on "Rectangle" tool button.
Draw within white space area.
click on the shape.
Shape handler will appear.
Now drag the shape handlers.(here is the problem.)

Brush Tool In Flash 8 Keeps Dying On Me
hi,

Sometimes when i use my brush tool in Flash 8.. At times it'll work perfectly and draw my lines out.. but sometimes! It just dies on me! And Whenever i click and drag to draw.. It comes up.. but once i let go of the click.. it dissappears!!

I have to draw a full touching circle with the brush tool for the drawing to appear.. But if i wanted to draw straight lines with the brush tool, then i'm screwed! lol

Does anyone know a solution to this?

Also, I've checked my brush modes and it's always on normal!

Brush Tool Line Quality MX Vs Flash4
Does anyone else here see a big difference in line quality (using the Brush Tool) drawing in Flash MX vs. Flash 4? I do quite a bit of animating using a Wacom Tablet and drawing directly in Flash and I get terrible line quality in MX. I usually end up working in Flash 4 because it looks so much better. I've played around with the Smoothing settings in MX to no end but I'm still getting terrible quality. (see attached sample).

[HELP] Brush Tool Doesn't Work..or Works Oddly
Hey all, I have an odd problem happening (though its probably something dumb that I accidently did so thats why I'm posting the question in here).

My brush tool no longer works, or atleast isn't working correctly. When I'm on the main timeline it works fine, however when I go into a movieclip to work on something it doesn't paint anymore. Whats odd though is if I paint over the entire work area some SMALL spots get painted, however there is nothing there so I dunno why. =

I've checked to see if the layer is locked, checked if its the top layer, and even made a new layer to test it on and it doesn't even paint on that. =

I opened a different flash file and found it doesn't have a problem, so I assume its just this one file I'm working with.

Anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks.

I'm trying to draw stuff, but the fill tool never works when I want it to. I try to fill something in, so I mess with the options till it works, but sometimes.. I CANT FILL IT IN AT ALL! Brush MC Always On Top?
I am making a draw toy, and it is mostly all worked out. I am just adding finishing touches... like a brush that takes the place of the mouse. My problem is that when drawing as the screen starts to get filled up the brush will be under the drawing pen lines.

Is there a way to make that one mc named "brush" always be on top of everything else. If i cant figure this out, i will just not do the whole hide mouse and attach clip, because naturally the mouse will go on top so i could just keep it plain

Jerky Brush, Pen Etc?
Hi all. When using the pen tool, the control of it starts to jerk and draw straight lines. This clears up for a few strokes and input reflects output on my screen but shortly after, it goes back to being jerky again. This also happens when using the eraser. Also the brush tool, that is unless I turn on pressure sensitivity. When this is selected on with the brush tool, it never jerks, skips etc, it is perfect. Is it something to do with memory (Laptop Pentium 4, 3.06 Ghz, 512MB DDR Ram, 40 gb HD). I have looked throughout Flash MX 2004 and cannot find any memory allowance panels. Help!!!

I recently installed Flash 8, and I LOVE the brush settings on it (I use a Walcom tablet). The pressure sensitivity is really smooth~ I was wondering.. how to import this exact brush setting into Photoshop CS2, so I can draw with the same stroke style!

P.S. When I said pressure sensitivity, i just meant the regular brush. So without the pressure or tilt icon toggled. Just regular brush, but with my tablet.

Help With Brush Sizes
Hey guys, I'm a complete newbie to Flash MX, as I downloaded the trial only today. I would really like to buy it when my trial is up but things are going so well so far.

I'm using Flash for my drawings, and I'm not making movies. My problem is that the pen pressure is not working for my tablet. My tablet is fully installed on this computer and I have never had any trouble with it on any sort of image program. I usually use Photoshop.

The lines that I've been drawing are thin and thick in some places, but not where I've been pressing down on my tablet. It's really strange and I can't work out why it's not working. I was just wondering if a Flash veteran could help me here.

Also, how come when you zoom in the brush doesn't get bigger? I know that it is supposed to be that way, but I found it really inconveniant...

hi

we can create lines using actionscript, like that:

this.createEmptyMovieClip("drawing_mc", 11);
drawing_mc.lineStyle(0, 0xFF0000, 100);
drawing_mc.moveTo(0, 0);
drawing_mc.lineTo(200, 0);
drawing_mc.lineTo(200, 100);

but is there any way to create bruch stroke using actionscript?

but i got another question.

using this:

when i click, it makes the line on the code above on "drawing_mc" movie clip.
if i click somewhere else, this line disapears and it creats new lines where i've clicked.
is there any way to keep them?
so if i click lots of times i have many different lines on my screen

I am very new to Flash and need to get the damn brush working correctly.

Font / Brush Colour
I have made a very simple flash movie which as you move the mouse with the left button held down it draws a line wherever the mouse goes. Release the button and it doesn't draw. Ine/brush Styles With LineTo
I'm working on a little app that uses the drawing API quite a bit. I'd like to jazz up the line styles a little more than just color, weight, alpha. I was hoping there was a way to change the line style to one of the style options that you get when just drawing a line on the canvas (scribbled, dotted, etc...)???

[CS3] Brush Stroke Anti Aliasing?
All of the sudden my pencil and brush tools won't work too well with my wacom tablet. I've never had this problem before. It seems like the brush strokes aren't being anti-aliased and when I'm done drawing everything is immediately pixelated and pushed the right a pixel or two.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Creating Calligraphy Brush Strokes?
Hi

I have a bunch of graphics that are made from paint brush strokes that I want to show as if it's being painted on the stage, sort of like watching calligraphy being painted.

I tried doing a mask with a shape tween and then a motion tween, and I thought I could painstakingly do zillions of keyframes and do it by hand, but it either doesn't look right or is just way too much work if I do it key frame by frame.

Is there an widely used approach for creating brush strokes that I might use in Flash 8?

Brush Size Keyboard Shortcut
After looking I couldn't find a keyboard shortcut that controls brush size. Is there a way to set brush size to the bracket keys, as in Photoshop?

Brush Options In Flash CS3 Not Showing Up
Hello. I'm using Flash CS3 and I'm not able to see all of the options for the Brush tool. I don't have the pressure-sensitive option or the tilt option. Is there something I need to download or click on to get these options? I'm not sure why I don't have them available to me..my tool palette ends at the brush size and shape options at the bottom. Custom Paint Brush Effect
Hi all,

I am trying to make a drawing application in Flash that that you can paint on using a custom "brush", and not use the default lines that are made by lineTo. The idea I had was to create a brush movie clip, and as the mouse moves duplicate it and place it at the mouse location. However, the problem arises that I often get large gaps in between movie clips if I move the mouse fast enough (which is more like normal speed for me).

Can anyone help me out in solving this problem, or offer a different solution?

Soften Mask Made With Brush
the title sounds odd, but this is what I am trying to refer to:

When drawing in Flash, it's standard a sharp edge.
I tried using soften fill edges (or whatever its called), which looks better.
But when using this artwork as a mask for my movieclip, the softened edge is gone, and its 'hard' again.

Isn't there any way to soften handdrawn masks (thus not using a gradient fill)? because the hard edge makes it look like crap:(
please note I am still in Flash mx04, so I am unable to try any funky F8 effects.
Any tips whatsoever are welcome
