Install Software Plug-in From Flash
Hi all

I have a client who wants the following done (sic):

I need Action Scripts to be added to 2 buttons in a Flash file that,
when clicked, will install a piece of supplied software (Note: this is a Freeware Plug-in, (one button is for PC, one is for Mac). Ideally I'd prefer it if the frame script could check to see whether the
plug-in is already loaded and a) install it if necessary or b) skip to the next frame if s/w is present.

I've no idea how to go about this to be honest, or even if its possible at all. Any help very gratefully received.

Express Install VISE Installer Problem
Some of us are having a problem on OSX where the express installer quits after prompting the user to close his browser regardless of what action the user takes. This does not happen with the updaters you get manually from the Adobe site; only with the express installer. I did some checking to see what the difference might be and I found that the express installer is VISE X version 2.0 while the manual installers are VISE X 3.0. My guess is that there is a bug in VISE X 2.0 that is causing the problem. If this is indeed the problem, can someone from Adobe update the installer to v3.0?

Call Java Class Directly Via Flash Remoting With CFMX Standard ?
Is it possible to call a Java class directly from my Action Script if I'm using CFMX Standard? or do I need CFMX for J2EE?

I've looked at this

and thought that by putting my jar files in /opt/coldfusionmx/runtime/servers/default/SERVER-INF/lib

or putting my classes in
/opt/coldfusionmx/runtime/servers/default/SERVER-INF/classes

it should work.

But if I try

I get the following error in the debugger

I have no problems calling a CFC via the gateway, so I know Flash remoting is working.

Any advice/help would be welcome.

Link To Flash Installer As Opposed To Flash Page OK?
I noticed this site seems to be linking directly to the flash installer at Macromedia's site if you do not have flash installed. That is nice since you don't get thrown over to macromedias site. Is this the way to do it? It used to be macromedia suggested going to their flash install page instead and they kept moving the link to the running the installer. At least I got caught a couple of times releasing a flash product that linked directly to the installer, only to get a 404 just after I released it for those that didn't have flash yet.

(I also noticed with this technique that it is often not mentioned that the install is taking place, so for a lower bandwidth customer they just sit there wondering why the page isn't loading when they are actually waiting for flash to install, but that's just a random observation and has nothing to do with my question.)

New ActiveX Fix By Macromedia, Install MXP
Links to download the files here.

Install the extension. Works with Flash 8. Follow the links on that page, cause you need to also download the javascript files.

I've tried it and it works fine. You can publish a page from the HTML tab in Publish Settings with just the fix or the fix and a detect script if they don't have flash player installed.

Here's the latest update for Dreamweaver 8. This one works real good. It writes the code on the page and creates a folder with the scripts in it. Don't forget to upload the Scripts folder.

To install it, you should disable any mxp's you may already have, then run the updater, then enable the mxp's again. Tedious, but it works and it's free.

Loading Variables Directly From The Call Command
I'm having a hard time loading variables to my flash file directly from the website without using a .txt file in the middle. I know it can be done because I've done it before, but I can't remember how.

Here's the scenario:

In the web page: /images/flash/file.swf?var=Hello

In the flash file, I need to be able to call var and include it in a GetURL command (ie. GetURL("http://www.url.com/index.asp?name=" & var )

Here are my problems:

1) I'm having trouble with the LoadVariablesNum command. I don't know what filename to give the command.

2) The filename of the flash file will be constantly changing, so I am not able to give it a static name or location.

3) It won't work :P

Possible solutions that I am having a hard time implimenting:

1) Use a variable for the filename in the LoadVariablesNum command that is manually set before the command is called.

If any of you could give me a hand or at least point me in the right direction, it would be MUCH appreciated.

[F8] Large Photo Book, Need To Be Able To Access A Page Directly.

Peel Effect/Page Turning Plug-in?
Hello,

I am currently trying to find a plug-in for Flash that allows a page turning/peel effect in an animation. For example, an image can be peeled back entirely and another image shown underneath it. I tried this software:

But unfortunately, that only allows for a book effect. I don't want the book fold to appear in the center of the image. I just want a clear peel across the entire image. Is there any software out there you can recommend for this sort of effect? Thank you.

How "install" An ActiveX In Macromedia Director MX2004?
Hello, in first time sorry by my english, it's very poor.
I'm programing and aplication with Macromedia director, I need the coordenates in real-time from GPS to PC for know my position. The aplication change a photos depending of the position who am I.
I have to "connect" the GPS and the PC with ActiveX, but I don't have idea of AvtiveX.
I download and shareware aplication for interchange dates of GPS and PC, I "compile" the file GpsToolsXP.dll with the instruction "regsvr32 GpsToolsXP.dll" and appears a message who tell that the instalation is OK. But I'm going to Director and Open "Insert--->Controls-->ActiveX" and appears a list of ActiveX controls who are installed, but don't appear the file wich I installed.
I'm very confused. What do have I?. I don't know how works the ActiveX

Anyone Know Of A Stupid Simple Hit Counter To Just Plug Into An HTML Page?
Just running short of time and client wants a simple hit counter on the site. Mostly html with Flash inserts coming in the future. Was thinking of using a flash hit counter but I guess I could look into an html (I know...taboo) counter as well. To the point...does anyone have a simple hit counter I could use for a bit till I figure out what the customer wants? I'm not much on the PHP or any other database type stuff, so I need something that an idiot (like me) can insert and make work.

How Can I Call A Page Location In Flash?
The flash movie is in the same page that I want to move in certain locations, and it works with a text link:
(<a href="#bayamon">Bayamon</a>,
but it will not work by calling it through Flash MX.
I'm trying with this code but the page does not move at all.
I can see the scroll bar trying to move when I click in the flash button,
but it does not work.

Can I Call In An HTML Page As Is Inside Flash?
Hi,

Probably not.. but i've seen things happen in Flash lately.
If i have a Flash Movie.. and i have some Square Space like a frame created in it, in a portion of it.. can i call in an HTML Page as it is inside that space? So that the HTML Page is displayed just like any other HTML Page inside that space in my Flash Movie?

How do you spawn the flash player from an html page?

I have a flash site on a CD that when launched IE's information bar gives an active x warning.

the site i have is primarily 95% flash, except for the intro page, which dies not activate IE's information bar. If i can figure out how to spawn the flash player from an .html page, the flash material will play without IE disrupting the site.

Trying To Call MM_showHideLayers On Container HTML Page From Flash
I'm designing a site that is mostly in Flash, but I would like to show some content by changing the visibility of a layer on the HTML page that contains the swf file. I have tried

Call Anchor In Html Page From Dynamic Page

I try to do this from an dynamic textfield, in this textfield is a html code like:

How To Install Preloader Into Html Page?
I'm sure this is a simple solution so thank you for helping. I've created a preloader to show the progress of a photo slideshow called landscape.swf It works fine when I test it in Flash 9.

Question 1: Do I export the preloader as a .swf and place it on my html page in addition to the already existing landscape.swf? Or does the preloader automatically link to it in actionscript, thus I only need the preloader .swf on the html page?

Question 2: When I do test it in Firefox, it says that there was a problem because of a missing URL. My preloader .fla and .swf are in the same folder as my landscape.swf and thus in my preloader actionscript I have the link written this way:

var myrequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest ("landscape.swf");

Am I linking to it incorrectly?

All of my swf/fla files are in one folder called Flash in my root folder for my website.

You'll have to wait about 10-15 seconds for it to load, thus the need for a preloader.

Macromedia Home Page News Ticker - How?
On Macromedia's home page, there is a news ticker that scrolls each headline. You can click the button on the left and
expand the news ticker to show all headlines and the headline that was shown
before expansion remains in that slot.

Does anyone know specifically how to do this? I need similar functionality

When the print dialog ( on pc) opens, under Page Range, the Current Page and Pages radio buttons are greyed out.

Flash CS3 Installer
Hi.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium
Lately, I've decided to upgrade from Flash 8 to Flash CS3.
The problem is, after I've downloaded the installer,
I double-click the file "Setup.exe"
The loader comes out

When it's done, the actual installer does not pop out
unlike dreamweaver and photoshop

I waited and waited and nothing happened.

No Installer For Flash Ppc 7 ( Or 6 )
Was an installer ever made for flash player software on ppc's ? I can't get anything to execute on the pda directly ( HP Ipaq 3100 and 4100 don't know what the 3 files are and won't extract them..ppc 2003 ). All other programs I've installed through activesync from the desktop. Antmobile installs and plays flash fine, but I can't be alone in wondering why adobe just doesn't offer an installer. Am I hopefully missing something?

I Need A New Flash Installer
Ok, heres what my Studio MX disk has gone through.. First we made a copy of it in case something happened to it.. which something DID.. The damn dogs got up and destroyed it along with 3 of my favorite games. so now im relying on my backup copy. Somehow over the years it has gotten scrathed a bunch and now everything installs ok except flash. It cant read the instaler file and gives up after 30 mins. Ive tried those dumb buffing sprays and just cant seem to get the file back so please just gimme a download for it and ill use my Serial to register it.

Flash Installer For Cd Prez?
Could someone advise me where (and which) I get a flash installer for use on CD's? I need to give the option to install from the Cd (not online). The types I have used before turned out to be for netscape which is not what I was after
Also.....while I am showing people how thick I am I might as well go for the full monty!.......I do a lot of animation in poser and then transfer the image work to flash but as you can imagine this uses masses of keyframes, I have been advised to export the posewr movies in AVI format but the quality sucks (probably my fault!!) so...does anyone know of a good video program to use for this type of thing??

i got a flash cd-rom i'm making, its got a flash player installer on it so if you dont have it you can install it off the cd.

Is there a way of redirecting the auto-flash player installer to the cd based flash player installer. cos at the mo it always jumps to the macromedia website to grab the installer there.

Flash Projector In MAC Pkg Installer
Hey, does anyone have experience putting a Flash projector for the MAC in a .pkg installer? I am trying, and while the Flash projector plays fine before I package it (using Package Maker) the MAC doesn't recognize it once it is installed. Any ideas? Need Flash Player 6.0.21 Installer
I've discovered that the only way I can copy movies from my Handycam to an mpeg format (instead of the proprietary Sony movie file format) is to use a workaround that requires my to have Flash Player 6.0.21. Does anyone have the fp_6.0.21_activex.exe installation file for this version? The Adobe site doesn't appear to have it available for download any more.

Cdrom Flash Exe Installer
hey!

i already have a movie to be published and to be burned on a cd together with some programs and other folders.

it will be something like a installation option thing where the user can choose what program to install and what folder to browse inside the cd.

for example, how do i launch "setup.exe" inside a "my apps" folder on the cd?

and how do i launch the window browser and browse the "my files" folder also inside the cd?
