Can't Open Www.adobe.com With IE 7.0
Can't open www.adobe.com with IE 7.0 under vista. Page gets half loaded and freezes. Flash is installed and appears to operate normally on youtube. Windows live hotmail also has same problem (not classic version). Help.

An Open Letter To Adobe
I am a long time Flash User, in fact I started using flash and writing ActionScript when I was 16. So needless to say I have quite a few years under my belt with it. With each upgrade to the Flash IDE, I have generally been impressed, there have always been a few strange things, but I have to say that for the first time ever, I am ashamed to see the horrible product that is CS4. But what I am even more disgusted by, is Adobe's refusal to admit that there may be something wrong. They only continue to tout the new features, which have no doubt are impressive, but the little things that we use most have been destroyed. I have commented on it in various places, and each time Adobe has removed my comments (generally without notice, until on one of them I called them out on it, so they sent me an email, telling me that I should contact Customer Support for issues regarding [insert completely unrelated, and long list]. I have found tons and tons of places online, where customers are complaining about some of the horrible changes that Adobe has made to CS4. And yet, we still have not been able to get a constructive answer from anyone. I've posted, and emailed, but nothing. I've asked Richard Galvan ( Product Manager for Flash) on his blog and no response. So I tried asking Jay Armstrong on his blog (Flash documentation guy), and once again no response. I've posted on Lee Brimlow's site, and nothing (a co-worker emailed him, which was ignored as well). I've also submitted more bugs and complaints to adobe's Wish form (www.adobe.com/go/wish) that it nearly makes my head spin. So what are some of the complaints that I (and many many others have)? Here is an abbreviated list.
1.) the introduction of the browser being forced into our work flow sucks. I used to be able to glance, code, glance,code etc and I was very efficient with that. Now, it's code, alt-tab, hunt, alt-tab, code.
2.) The interface on the web API (no offense) is very hard to use in comparison to the previous help panel interface.
3.) Every time I press F1 from flash, it opens a new instance of my browser. Why can't it even use the same one? Or even open a new tab? A complete new instance of the browser. It's NUTS!
4.) Shortcuts are horribly handi-capped. For instance ctrl+a generally means select all in Windows speak. However, you are only allowed to have it assigned to select all when you are on the stage, or select all in a code window. It is no-longer intelligent enough to tell the difference. The same thing with ctrl+g. On the stage, it means "group", in a code window, it meant "go to line".
5.) Awesome features that were added to CS3 that I use more times in a single day, no-longer work either. In CS3, there was a great new feature added, that allowed us to press ctrl+enter and test a movie when we are writing a class file. This no longer works, we either have to switch to the fla, or use the mouse and select it from the drop-down list.
6.) Classes that used to compile fine now will not compile in CS4. Presumably because they are dependent on assets from the library of the FLA.
Adobe, please engage the community in a discussion about this. Don't let CS4 gain the reputation that Vista gained (even though vista did not deserve it, I hate to say Flash CS4 really does.) Don't let flash CS4 mark the decline of Adobe's dedication to making great software. Feel free to contact me, I am more than happy to discuss this, to show you how horribly broken some of the most basic and crucial features of our work-flows have been obliterated. Adobe, we have spoken, and now we must listen for a response from you. Please do not disappoint.

Adobe Flash CS4 Won't Open Anymore :(
Hello all, beforehand I thank you for your help. I use Windows Vista and I took all precautions and did scandisk/disk defrag/ and have numerous utilities to keep my computer clean so it can't be that...
I have been using Flash CS4 pretty regularly until about a week ago and i never had any real problems but now every time I open up Flash CS4 it gives me an error message and closes. Dreanweaver Question- How Do You Make A Link Open An Adobe Program?
I'm also trying to learn Flash & Dreamweaver at the same time...
I've been having a problem with Dreamweaver;
I have words on my webpage, that when you click the link, I want it to open up to an Adobe Acrobat program... Or even Word Perfect to read the document.
If you just simply make the words link up to your selected Word Perfect (Or .pdf) doc, will it just automatically open up Word or Adobe Acrobat program on the user's computer?

I am working on a project to put paper catalog (eg, like a jcrew catalog) online and enable interactive features such as turn-page, zoom, rotate, and click to shop.
I am evaluating whether to use Adobe Flash or Adobe Flex, and appreciate any advice from this forum on:
1. What are the differences between Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex that are important to consider?
2. Is it faster to develop using Adobe Flex than Flash?
3. Which technology produces better performance? Most online catalogs I've seen have been kind of slow: they take time to load the page and then take time to sharpen images. Any suggestions on how maybe through buffering/caching to improve the performance? how much is the performance limited by network bandwidth given the size and number of images on a catalog page?

This tool will allow you to create flash content easily without knowing ActionScript or programming. It is pointed to graphic designers, art directors and creative directors.
I believe this is a great move by Adobe.

How Can I Open Folders/run Apps/open Shortcuts From Flash MX Using Actionscript?
I'm trying to make an Active Desktop using Flash MX and I need a way for the user to click on a button, labeled 'my computer' for example, and for the 'my computer' window to pop up. The same thing needs to happen for 'my pictures', 'my music', 'my videos', 'control panel', and 'media player'.
How can I do this using Actionscript?? Please advise.
Open Pdf Files Causing IE Window To Open And Crash
On a macintosh OSX, when trying to open a pdf using:
getURL(./somePDF.pdf")
this command opens a pdf document correctly but also opens Internet Explorer. Sometimes this causes a problem because it crashes IE and forces it to quit.
Is there a way to open PDF documents using flash that doesn't open an IE browser window on mac OSX?
[MX-MX04] Open The Save As / Open Windows
Hi,
I would like to click a button, which opens either the 'Save As' or 'Open' window (something like what this HTML does: <input type="file" size="40" name="file1" style="font-size: 8pt; font-family: verdana">). When you click open (in the 'Open' window) then the file path is put into an input textbox. And if you save (in the 'Save As' window), well, can you save things from an swf file? I've seen a save as jpg done, but nothing more... If you can save as anything, I'd like to know how.
I'd appreciate it if you gave code in either MX or MX2004 format, thanks :P.

Hi, i'm in charge of a smaller team of banner developers, and because i was running with photoshop 7 i wanted to upgrade.
Now the fun starts..
To buy Photoshop Extended in a single package seems stupid,cause it so expensive that i'd rather throw the extra dollars and get the "whole" package.. so Adobe Vs Me 1-0
Now, i got the new FlashCS3, and suddently i'm a pain for the rest of my colleagues, cause saving and MAINTAINING files saved in Flash8 with CS3 is near impossible.
The smarthat would response "then upgrade all your versions to CS3" ... of different reasons this is a bullshit answer, as we ship of banners of to other countries/agencies and they naturally require the fla files to be flash8 (sometimes flash7).
The banner industry is not even accepting flash9 (AS3) formats yet..so in few words.. Adobe you are not supporting us that well with ur shitty ways of file versioning/handling (alltho all flash version has suffered from this, YOU should make the difference, and make us customers happy, rahter than annoyed)
And about the above..for user creating banners only
there is NO REASON TO BUY CS3 (it will actually only make your job more difficult)
I dont have to be a braniac to figure out why you have chosen to do it this way.. you try to get people to buy latest versions.. and doingt it this way ...just SUCK!
Adobe... you are letting me down.

this forum is damn slow and doesnt work properly.
Flash as a serious core problem, if the program is idle for a period it will start to show latency.
instead of having updates for air or etc... you should check this out.
AS is an amazing computer language/interface, keep flash core fast and lightweight or you will screw the application.

I just wasted $1500 on the new CS3. My company does only flash remoting with coldfusion and apparently there isn't a version that works with CS3. I can't even copy my mx folders to the mx directory in the Adobe file structure and they work using as 2.0.
How are we supposed to use CS3 with Coldfusion?

With the number of posts with ZERO replies here, it seems pretty obvious that no one from Adobe ever comes to this forum. Which is something very wrong, considering it's such an expensive piece of software (my company payed $7500 for our FMIS 3 license). I don't see this problem with smaller companies, such as Wowza, where you feel the devs are actually reading and answering peoples questions.
Seriously, it wouldn't take much effort for a company big as Adobe, to put a specialist to answer a few questions now and then.

Sorry for basic question. How is CS3 different than Adobe version 8? Is CS3 the next version or a different product. I have Adobe 8 suite with dreamweaver and I am only interetsed in the Device Central (to design for mobile devices). Is it possible to get Device Central for Adobe 8 Suite(for Dreamweaver) or do I need to buy CS3?

Using An Open Button To Open A File

Im trying to make a program that manages short cuts so if you have to many short cuts on your desktop you can just delete them and put there file extension in the text box, and then push open so the file opens.
I dont know what action script to put in the open1 button(its actually defined as a movie clip) and what variable to put in the text1 text box.
There are 7 text boxes and 7 open buttons.
text1-------open1
text2-------open1
and ect.
And if possible i want it where you can also put in website addresses and it goes to those for you to.
I also want it to save the text you put in so next time you open the program, the file extension you put in is still there

I have a MX6 projector file and a button in it that is supposed to launch another projector file. This whole thing will be running from a CDrom. No matter what I do, I cannot open the second projector??!!
I have used the fscommand's (attached to the button):

Macromedia And Adobe?
We have Freehand, Fireworks, Flash, Director and Dreamweaver. Then we have Photoshop, Image Ready, Live Motion and Illustrator. What is the deal and what is the difference? Work hooks me up with the publishing suite while school hooks me up with Macromedia and the job i've been in makes me an Adobe Warrior while the school makes a layer scounging, Onion skining knowledge seeking sponge. Obviously Macromedia wins hands down in the web development while Adobe holds a firm position in printing but my question here is whats the click between GoLive and Dreamveaver?

First, allow me to complement you all on a great forum and site, clearly one of the most informative sights I have ever been on about anything.
I am a amateur website developer, a hobby of mine and I would like to take it to the next level. I am fairly proficient in Microsoft Frontpage, but I would like to add more sophisticataed components. Thus, my interest in flash. I have a few questions below I hope someone will answer
I took a look at the free downloads, I assume the "flash player" allows one to view flash animation on a website, does the "flash producer" allow you to create flash animation etc?
Is there a free trial version for the $699 Macromedia Flash Pro 8? Is that the "flash producer?"
How does Flash relate to Dreamweaver?
What are some good books that a novice cold read to get a better idea of how to use flash (particularly with Microsoft Frontpage)?
I saw a flash site, it was a photogrpahy site, it was absolutely beautiful...one of the interesting things was that the slide show of photos, you know when you right click on a photo and it says "save photo as", well on this site the right-click menu had no such option. As a amatuer photographer, I would like such a capability on my site. Is there ay easy way to do this with Flash by embedding the images?

I have created a form for users of my site to send me some feedback and contact details. Problem is when u go to this page in my flash site, it allows you to send blank messages without having to type anything in the fields.
I have coded it so it wont continue if the fields are left blank but for some reason it still does it:
The code i used:

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but since it's "General Help", it might just be the one. I have a question to the senior members of this forum ( or to the guys who know what this is all about ): I'm interested in some Adobe Certificates on Flash. I saw that they have certificates on Photoshop and on other products but I can't really find anything on Flash, or the ones that I find are out-dated ( for Flash MX or MX 2004 ). I'm interested in a CS3 certificate but I'm not sure if such thing exists... Could anyone link me to a site with more information on this or does anyone know something about Flash CS3 certificates ?

Basically, I qualify for the Academic version of CS3 Web Premium however I was curious to know if anyone knew if the Academic version is able to be upgraded to the full retail version down the road?

ActionScript Without Adobe?

As you can imagine I'm an absolut newbie. Because I'm still student I don't have at the moment money to buy Adobe's Flash CS3 or Dreamweaver. On the other side I like programming – I've allready learnd a lot about C++, Java and other programming languages.
To my question: is it possible to build an Application/WebPage on AS without using some shareware tools. As mentioned before, I'm absolutely not afraid to write a lot of code ;-)! If yes, could somebody sugests me a good tutorial to learn it?

Adobe Upload Example
Acording to Adobe i can copy any of there sample code to a fla file and it will be ready to try out unless it's a class, this is oviusly not true as in my case i am gettting an error saying "1037: Packages cannot be nested.", probably have to be in some external file or somthing else that i have no idea bout.

I have been fighting Flash for a couple of dayes now, had a grate uploader working in AC2, but i absolutly must have access to encodeURLcomponent() witch is only in AC3, meaning i have to rewrite the thing preaty much from scatch in a syntaxt I have no experiance with

I just realized that what i have here is a class, but then adobes how to use just sayes good luck figuring this out for your self
My understanding is that i have to save it as a seporate .as file named the same as the class and in some folder that flash will be looking in as it compiles my swf file and then add some code like this to start of in my actual fla file.

I wanted to use a wink on msn and was told i'd have to have the latest flash player, I went to the site to D/load the player, but when I click the gold bar and to install active X its not D/loading. What could be the problem? is it my computer or wat, and what may I do to resolve? HELP!!!

Does anyone have experience with Adobe’s detection kit? I’m trying to get the express installation running. What happens is that it will deliver the content if the prescribed version of Flash is installed. If not, it’s supposed to initiate an automatic installation. It did it once but every other time I just get a blank rectangle.

I have uninstalled previous versions of the flash player and installed the newest version but it does not work. When I'm on websites that requires flash it states that I need to install flash player. In the control program-add/remove programs it shows that it's installed however it does not show up in the start-program files. Can anyone help? This is really annoying. It was working fine and then quit. I am on Windows XP IE6 (7 won't download either! LOL). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If This Isn't An Adobe Flash Bug, What Is It?
I have checked the machine for viruses (Microsoft and HouseCall); I checked and replaced faulty RAM; there is no other problem with Firefox, but It will just not handle Flex/Flash pages without a hard crash, so I managed to make this reproducible:
a) create new profile
b) leave profile unmodified
c) open Firefox in the profile creation session with new profile (has to be done twice for some reason)
d) go to http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/inproduct/sdk/dashboard/dashboard.html
e) it executes properly;
now:
a) close firefox
b) reopen using the identical (unmodified) new profile
c) going to the same link (or any other Flash-Flex link) it crashes with something like "memory 0x000000 referenced address 0x000000"
This occurs with Windows 2003 SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Opera; however I think it may also apply to as far back as 1.5 and Windows 2003 without SP's. It wasn't until SP2 that I tried the above. I have the latest Flash plugin installed (9.0.28.0)
Also, I deinstalled flash, rebooted and reinstalled (as per Adobe help pages).
I can make Microsoft .hdmp files available - when I reboot I get one per browser crash.
Disappointed With Adobe
It seems you can get their salespeople in well under an hour on the weekends or evenings by phone, but are made to wait so long for support (customer service or technical support) to clean up any problems after the sale that you just bail on the call because you are required to hold so long that you begin to feel the call has simply been forgotten, and that they will never pick up.
Do they actually pick up? I haven't had a whole day to wait on a Saturday, so I don't actually know if they do or not. Anyone had any luck with this?
Secondly, in the Flash CS3 Welcome Screen under "Get the Most out of Flash" mentions something called "Bridge Home" in the new CS3 version of Adobe Bridge. So, I opened Bridge CS3 to see what they were talking about, and it was not where it was supposed to be, according to the help file. In fact, I can't find it anywhere.
I tried to call and get installation help, but that number is only available to me while I am at work trying to make money to pay for all my Adobe products and upgrades. I tried to reinstall the Bridge, but there's no option to reinstall just the Bridge from the installation disk, and from what I've read online about the installation nightmares people are having just getting Flash installed, thought I'd better quit while I was ahead, meaning I successfully installed Flash CS3 the first time, and didn't want to chance losing it on a complete reinstall.
Anyone know how to access Bridge Home when it doesn't show up in the favorites menu, or reinstall Bridge CS3 without having to reinstall the whole shootin' match?

We are all very happy when you introduce CS3 application. But know too much problem with these applications. First of all one big mistake you don’t put contact E-mail address on your web site.
For new user have a big problem to tell you about you application mistakes and errors.
