Been planning on making a reader that can read in acrobat files but wasn't sure if it's possible.
If it is possible, could anyone give me a bit of advice on how to import the file or point me in the direction of a tutorial, had a Google but no luck.

Adobe Acrobat Installer, Mac And Pc. How Do I Do This?
I have a projector file I'm making in flash. One of the buttons in the movie is so that they can download the adobe acrobat installer.
NOw, there are two versions of it in my folder. A mac version, which is a .bin, and a PC version, which is a .cgi file.
What code should I put on the button?
How will it know whether or not the user is using a mac or a pC?
Is there a way around this?

From what I've read you can't take an Acrobat file and turn it into a .swf Flashpaper. Is this correct? Has anyone had experience with creating FlashPapers? I've created a few, but I thought Acrobat files could be converted. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Was wondering if anyone has had any success with, scripting knowledge of ...or any 3rd party tools that can detect if an application is installed or not. Particularly Adobe Acrobat....allowing me to launch the installer from CD if it returns "false?"

How To Import Adobe Illus. Vector Graphics Into Flash?
I'm working with a professional animator who has created some seriously graphic intensive artwork in Illustrator and it's vectorized. I'm clueless as to how I can get that art into flash and have it maintain the vector.
The latest version of Illustrator allows us to 'save as' .swf, but when I open the .swf it won't let me convert the images into the layered .fla file where I need to work with the images.

Hey,
I cut an image in photoshop, and import it in Flash MX Pro 2004.
And then it looks like this

Why Can't The Adobe/Macramedia Folk Properly Document Their XML Objects?
If you want to access xml in a hard-coded manner, then everything works just fine.
But, if you want to make something flexible, their documentation absolutely sucks!!! It's as if they don't know how it works so they just skipped saying what object comes from each reference!!!
Case in point, you instantiate an XML object, and ask for children. You get back an XMLList, but where the heck does it tell you what you actually have???
When you look at it in the debugger, it looks like XML. Now in some cases, if you have a sub structure that looks like this:
<fooName>
<fooSub1>Some Text</fooSub1>
<fooSub2>Some More Text</fooSub2>
<fooSub3>Still More Text</fooSub3>
</fooName>
When you look at it in the debugger, there is a plus (+) sign next to the variable holding the xml. And when you click it, you get:
- 0 <fooSub1>
Some Text
- 1 <fooSub2>
Some More Text
- 2 <fooSub3>
Still More Text
But WTF do you really have??? If you do a getChildren, it barks at you! It's not an array!
This is just idiotic how they just don't tell you what you're getting!!
Sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of incompetent people pretending that they know how to document then having to go through trial and error to figure out what they haven't told us!

Import Images Made In Adobe Illustrator
Hi
The Graphic designer I am working with made a few images using Adobe illustrator, now I would like to have those in my move. I know Flash is supposed to support illustrator eps. Files , but when I try to import them I get an error message telling me the file was not fully accepted by Flash, I can not see the image. Importing as gif. bmp. Is not an issue because I get really bad looking images.
What can I do ? what is the best way to import those images and not lose quality ?

Video Import Problem With Newly Created ADOBE PREMIER 1.5 Movie
Hi,
I just made a movie i wanna stream off my server, and I tried to import the video, which I just created in ADOBE PREMIER, into Flash. It allows me to go right through the sorenson import procedure for video, but then once i click "finish" it just starts the whole import video process again, without inserting the video flv and associated file into the current project library.
Anyone got any ideas, I've tried a whole range of different settings within adobe for the export of the vid, but nothing seems to happen.
I am able to use older, pre-existing .mov files within flash, so it must be a problem with the current movie file!

Can You Import A Simple .txt Document?
I figure there HAS to be a way to do this but I've searched this site for "import text" and the Flash 8 help docs and found nothing.
Can you import the text from a simple .txt document into Flash, like into a dynamic text field? I know it's possible to import like XML text but I need to go simpler for my employers if possible, rather than trying to teach him to type what he needs in between the proper tags.

I am working on a project to put paper catalog (eg, like a jcrew catalog) online and enable interactive features such as turn-page, zoom, rotate, and click to shop.
I am evaluating whether to use Adobe Flash or Adobe Flex, and appreciate any advice from this forum on:
1. What are the differences between Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex that are important to consider?
2. Is it faster to develop using Adobe Flex than Flash?
3. Which technology produces better performance? Most online catalogs I've seen have been kind of slow: they take time to load the page and then take time to sharpen images. Any suggestions on how maybe through buffering/caching to improve the performance? how much is the performance limited by network bandwidth given the size and number of images on a catalog page?

Hello, I have a .swf that uses AS3. It uses the UILoader component to load pictures using AS3. The pictures are stored in the same folder as the .swf. I have a need to secure the .swf and pictures inside of a .pdf using LiveCycle. All I need to know is whether it is possible for my .swf embedded inside of this .pdf can call out to the pictures if they are attachments within the .pdf... and how do I code the 'source' for the UILoader if it is possible?? I do not have Acrobat 9 yet(my trial ran out) so I cannot test it... but I do need to know if it is possible or not so that I can change my .swf program in time. Thanks in advance! - Jake

hope someone can help me on this one. there are endless similar questions to this one on the flashboard but answers seem hard to come by. we're giving a presentation on a Mac G4, using a IE 5.1 browser,which is including a flash intro, flash navigational page and then a link to a pdf.
Here's the problem: we want the pdf to open in acrobat reader not the browser's acrobat plugin (for file viewing purposes). the getURL command opens up the browser window -- no good. I've been reading a ton about the fscommand but this seems very PC to me and doesn't seem to work. any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I am trying to make a Mac flash projector that will become part of a cd-rom. Also on the cd-rom will be several Acrobat PDF fles.
From the Flash Projector I would like to open pdf files from the CD-rom. I as using the following code but it wont work:

Basically, i will be preparing an animation to run from the cd rom which in the inside pages will call pdf files. Now how do i detect weather the user has acrobat or not.?
If the user has acrobat on his M/c and If it is detected, continue with normal Animations. else load the proggy that is available on the same cd rom where the intro is running from.

i've made anew movie with the same settings but when ever i try to import it a box comes up saying..."check proxy or URL" blah blah blah.
i'm so confused.

I am trying to open a .pdf file in Acrobat Reader from a Flash projector. At the moment I am using the get-url command but that opens the .pdf in Acrobat inside a Browser window which is NOT what I want to happen. Is it possible to open the .pdf file directly in Acrobat and by-pass internet Explorer??? Please help!!! This is going to part of a huge Flash Catalogue system that will work from a PC hard drive that will be connected to a printer (that's what the pdf is for - and there are loads of them)

Acrobat Detector For Flash Based CD-rom
Hi,
Is there a way I can detect if Acrobat is installed on the host computer, when I run the projector (I create the exe with Zinc) from DVD?
I am coming from a Director background where these kind of checks are no problem and not seen as a security issue like from a Flash point of view. Are there any issues (like, it only works on Win XP, not on Win2K, Win 98 etc, or only for certain versions of Acrobat), and is it possible?

Flash To Acrobat To Illustrator Workflow Problem
Tried this Acrobat forum first then it was suggested I try the Flash forum.
I have a workflow which goes from Flash to Acrobat to Illustrator (all CS3). A perfectly smooth looking circular object in Flash becomes segmented into a series of straight lines when printed to the Acrobat 8 PDF driver. It looks like a connect-the-dots version of the intended object.
I've tried some custom Distiller presets with and without the 'convert smooth lines to curves' feature selected. With that feature turned off the problem is minimized slightly but is still quite obvious. I get the same results when using Mac OS X's PDF preview feature -- the segmented effect is somewhat minimized.
Is there any way to retain my smooth curves from Flash?

Ahh!! I'm already getting a bit tired of having to continuously import classes into Flash for things like BitmapData, Rectangle, and Point etc. Is there a way I can set things up so that these classes don't need to be manually imported all of the time?
I've tried a few things including : (a) Creating extension classes, but Flash moans about class paths when I try to import something like flash.display.BitmapData into my own class. (b) Setting a class path so that it points at the class directory .. $(LocalData)/Classes/FP8/flash/display/ .. but that doesn't work either (I know why, but it was worth a shot). (c) Importing the entire class package .. import FP8.* .. but that causes errors with a tonne of other classes. import FP8.geom.* etc works though, but that doesn't really help.
Am I just missing something obvious here, or is there no way around this?

How Can I Launch A .pdf In Acrobat From A .swf?
Hi.
Need some help here. I created a Flash animation intro that will be seen on a CD-ROM. Once the .swf animation ends, a button is seen that, when pressed, should launch a .pdf file in Acrobat.
My problem is that when the button is pressed the .pdf launches in Explorer (and underneath the .swf). My question is can I make the .pdf launch solely in Acrobat (and launch above the .swf as well)??? If so give me a run down of what the actions should be in the Flash button.

This is probably pretty basic, but does anyone know how to launch an Acrobat PDF using a button in a flash movie? In other words, if I want to launch a PDF titled "estimate.pdf", and inserted a button into the movie named "estimate.pdf", when clicked could the pdf file automatically open in Acrobat Reader (assuming the user has Acrobat on their system)? What's the steps to that?

I am a amateur website developer, a hobby of mine and I would like to take it to the next level. I am fairly proficient in Microsoft Frontpage, but I would like to add more sophisticataed components. Thus, my interest in flash. I have a few questions below I hope someone will answer
I took a look at the free downloads, I assume the "flash player" allows one to view flash animation on a website, does the "flash producer" allow you to create flash animation etc?
Is there a free trial version for the $699 Macromedia Flash Pro 8? Is that the "flash producer?"
How does Flash relate to Dreamweaver?
What are some good books that a novice cold read to get a better idea of how to use flash (particularly with Microsoft Frontpage)?
I saw a flash site, it was a photogrpahy site, it was absolutely beautiful...one of the interesting things was that the slide show of photos, you know when you right click on a photo and it says "save photo as", well on this site the right-click menu had no such option. As a amatuer photographer, I would like such a capability on my site. Is there ay easy way to do this with Flash by embedding the images?
