Can MX 2004 Pro Files Be Opened And Modified In MX 2004?
Hi,
I've done alot of work with Flash MX 2004 Pro in a class I took. I'm looking into buying the Flash program for my own personal use. I checked out the school store and found that I could buy Flash MX 2004 there at a discount price.
My question is, will Flash MX 2004 allow me to open the .fla files I finished in my class, even though I used Flash MX 2004 Pro to make them? If not, I'll have a lot more saving to do...

Loading .fla Files On 2004
Hello,
I am trying to load the .fla in http://www.flashkit.com/downloads/mo...wn%20Timer.zip to version 7.0 of MX 2004 and when I do I get "Unexpected File Format".
Does this mean I can't use .fla files made in previous versions? If not, how do I properly load it into this new version?
Sometimes I wish Macromedia would just leave things the way they were.

Can't Find Tutorial Files MX 2004
I'm trying to complete the Flash MX Tutorial on the Adobe website but can't seem to find the files that it requires. I have Studio MX 2004 and there is no Tutorials folder in my Macromedia/Flash folder. Does anyone know where I can download them? I'm specifically looking for view1.png, view2.png and view3.png, which are supposed to be located in the Assets folder.

I've made my own buttons and now I want to import them into dreamweaver. The problem is when I import them, I can't link them to an other page.
Maybe is the solution to create a button template (*.swt), add them to c:...dreamweaver...flash buttons . If that would succeed you can fill in the link.
How do I create these swt-files??

Converting MX 2004 Files To Flash 8/AS 2.0
It's been several years since I have touched Flash. In fact, I believe the last version I worked in for more than a few minutes was Flash 5.
I am doing my best to catch up on Flash 8 by looking at some source. I am completely lost on certain topics, such as how to get older files working when published under Flash 8.
A good example is the BrainGiants bounce/ease (scroll down to September 10, 2004, at http://www.braingiants.com/v5/welcome.html ). I trying to re-familiarize myself with ActionScript by looking at his source, but have no idea where to start on getting this to work with Flash 8 (originally in MX 2004).
Are there any specific tutorials (or books, even) that list common issues with "MX 2004 to 8" conversions? I've tried searching through existing topics, but can't seem to find anything as of yet.

Problem Opening Files In MX 2004 Pro Trial
I downloaded and installed trial version of flash MX2004 Professional and I am not able to open any previously created file (.fla) - "Unexpected file format" message. Is it a limitation of trial version? But I did not find any info about that. Is a bug? Is it a problem with trial only? Any suggestions?

Importing Captivate Files To Flash MX 2004
Howdy,
I am having trouble with a Captivate file I am importing into flash.
1). The Text Caption boxes that are imported appear wrong in Flash. The text is displayed smaller, or the bubbles look larger. Either way they are not the way they looked in Captivate. Having to resize every Text Caption is a pain in the butt. Is there a way to get them to import correctly into flash?
2). The background changes Captivate records, like text being typed in a type field, look all awful in Flash. The bitmaps that are used in the animation for typing, jump around a few pixels. So its some crapy looking animation. I can't align them either, because teh bitmaps are so far off from the background image.
3). When I publish a .swf from captivate it looks perfect. Its the importing of the Captivate file into Flash thats messed up.
These are my problems.... anyone know how to fix this?

MX 2004 Corrupts MX Created Files When Publishing
Hi Guys,
This isn't really my field but I will try to describe what is happening...
I am working on a project which involves translating CBT which were created in Flash MX. Because we didn't have enough licenses to go round in MX we bought some 2004 versions but we have since found that if we save or publish the files in 2004, the results are not what was expected and a lot of the functionality stops working or works incorrectly. These files are quite component and Actionscript heavy so I suspect that is where the problem is.
However I noticed in the publishing settings for 2004 you can select different player versions and Actionscript version, I have tried some combinations but it doesn't seem to have made any difference, will I be able to get around the publishing problems with altering these settings or is that 2004 isn't backwards compatible?

Flash MX - Studio MX 2004 Opening Files
Alright
Basically I work at another place on a MAC, I think it's Flash MX, the version before Studio MX 2004. I've created an interactive movie/manual.
At home I've got Studio MAX 2004, I opened it on here and now it says something along the lines of I can't open it in previous versions of MX 2004.
Is this _not_ at all possible? I won't be able to open it on the MAC with Flash MX?

My Flash MX 2004 Professional Will Not Open Older .fla Files
I have a copy of flash MX 2004 Professional on my work computer but I'm having difficulties getting it to open some .fla files from flash MX (and flash 8). When I try to open the files I get the error message " unexpected file type." At first I thought it was because my files might be corrupt, I've been having troubles with my portable drive, but I decided to come here to Kirupa and download some source files and I got the same message so I think the problem is with MX 2004.
Has anyone had any problems with this or know how I might be able to fix it? I have downloaded the updater (do I have to run the updater or dose it update automatically?) but have not tried a fresh reinstall.
Any ideas?

Mx 2004 Preloading Sound Objects And Multiple Files
Can anyone suggest the best solution for preloading the following type of site structure. I'm using Flash Mx 2004 and Actionscript 2.0. For me, building a preloader that handles complex site structures that accomodate attached sounds, shared libraries, and multiple swfs that load into levels is a bit of a nightmare.
1. A 'master.swf' ( _level0 ) file that ...
- that loads 'main_menu.swf' into _level1
- that loads 'bottom.swf' into _level2;
- that loads content.swf' into _level3.
2. Note the master.swf timeline is ten frames long. On Fr01 I
load 'trigger.swf' into _level3 which initiates the downloading of my
shared library. Once the library is downloaded, the code _level0.play() will
move the master timeline to FR10 where the above files are loaded into
their respective levels.
3. Note 'content.swf' has numerous sound objects (52) and sound files inside
of movie clips which are strung out along the timeline of content.swf. All
of these sounds are quite short so I didn't think it would be practical to
stream the sounds. Thus I'm loading a movie into _level3 with 52
attachedSounds which add about to 102kb.
4. Note - the preloader should be activated anytime an swf is loaded into a
level of the master file.

I have mx 2004 at my job... we were supposed to get professional but our purchasing department bought regular mx 2004...
Can you go from mx 2004 to professional? How do you do it? Whats the cost? Do I have to pay for an upgrade like I was coming from regular mx?

.FLA Opens In Mx 2004 But Not In MX 2004 Pro?
I'm having a nightmare here!!
i've been working on a site (i'm struggling enough with that alone!) but earlier today i had an error whilst saving and somehow this has resulted in my original .fla being deleted (no back up).......aaargh
i have now managed to recreate the .FLA by using a .fla to .swf decompiler but when i try and open it in MX 2004 Pro i recieve "unexpected file format" and it won't open, however i can open the recovered file in MX2004....so not is all lost, but its not ideal.
Is there anyway i can save it from 2004 so i can open it in 2004 Pro? or is there a fundamental difference between the two file types? ( i find this strange if true since they are both part of the 2004 range? plus surely 2004 pro is backwards compatible to 2004? most software apps are?)
sorry if this has been asked many times before i'm just at my wits end and trying to understand a little better........i'm quite new to flash!

Prevent Caching Only If Files Are Modified
Hi all.
According to my observations while loading files online, some are not loaded from the cache because their modification dates or sizes have been changed.
I have around 65 files that I'm loading, and if I prevent caching with a random GET data it takes so long each time to load. But I want it not to use the cached file(s) only when/if the data is changed.
Does my first paragraph make sense or apply to all files actually?
Btw I'm loading this content only once during single viewing and not reloading any of it during that session.

Detecting Modified/created Files In Windows (specifically Due To CS4 Installer)
I don't know where else to ask this question, so I'll post it here, and if anyone knows any other forums where I might get a better answer, please tell me.
I am wanting to install flash CS4, but I want to know exactly which files and registry keys it creates and changes. Spybot informs me of all registry changes, but that is it.
Is there any antivirus software or something that will tell exactly which files get changed, created, or deleted during a set period of time or by a specific program?
Otherwise I could just search for all files that have been created or modified within the last 45 minutes, but I would prefer an easier method. Has anyone heard of anything like this?
