Flash :: Can The Cache Be Stopped In Flash MX?

Re-starting A Stopped Playhead From Where It Stopped
Hello,

I know this is a really rookie question but it has been troubling me for a while.
I usually set up a loop for the playehead to keep checking to see if the user presses a button but there MUST be an easier way.

I have a movie and it stops at a frame.
When the user presses the button it will go to another frame and stop there, and when the user presses another button the playhead will go to yet another frame and stop there...

on (release) {
this._parent.gotoAndStop(1);
}

Unfortunately this makes then entire movie just start playing again from the beginning.

Is there a simple way to re-start the playehhead from where it has stopped and go to a specific frame and stop there?

I have attached a .fla to show you what I mean.
I can not get it to advance to the next number when the appropriate button is pressed.

Flash Stopped Working In IE 7
After a recent Windows update Flash has stopped working in IE 7 on XP on my pc, I'm just getting a white area where the Flash movie should be and a 'Movie not loaded...' menu option.

Anyone else seeing this or have heard of a fix for this?

The usual install the latest versions of Flash and IE made no difference.

Flash Stopped Working On Mac
Hi There,

On this site http://www.pparnold.com I have used flash for two things.

1) As a dynamic header
2) As a jukebox to play songs (click on speaker icon).

Both are working fine in IE and FF on Windows and used to work fine on Mac's but now they don't.

That is - unless you upgrade to the latest version of Flash - then it works again.

I have searched online and have not been able to see anyone with similar problems - so I thought I would give this a try.

It worked on a mac until Firefox was installed - then it stopped working for both Safari and Firefox

I have inserted the flash header with javascript to prevent the "click here to activate" in IE - and for some reason I think this could be the culprit.

Flash Movie Plays Even Though Stopped

I have a Flash drop-down navigation bar on the above site which works fine on Macs, but on Windows, for some reason, it jumps from frame one to frame two when the page is re-loaded, or appears on a subsequent page. This means the first drop-down plays without being clicked - even though I have action-scripted a 'stop' into every layer of frame one!

I'm scratching my head to resolve this, but to no avail. Has anyone encountered anything like this before?

Would appreciate any thoughts.

How Do I Track Where A Flash Movie Stopped?
Hi, I am trying to control a flash movie with two different buttons, but I need to know how to track where the flash movie has stopped.

I have an optional navigation console and audio console. But I don't want both to be open at the same time. So, assuming that audio is open, when the user clicks Navigation, I want it to close audio. The only problem there is that when the user clicks on audio again, it doesn't play the opening frames, it plays the closing frames.

So How do I track if an animation is open or closed?

Some Sounds Stopped Playing In My Flash
Hi,

I'm working on a cartoon sorta thing.. Earlier I was having problems with the music going out of sync. That was fixed easily enough by setting it to Stream (lol), but I also had to change the audio in publish settings to 128kbps so the song sounded good (it sounded low/muffled when simply setting it to Stream at first). So, that song works fine now...

But.. some of my other sounds stopped playing. It's also really weird, because, if I play it from the beginning, the intro music plays, as well as my first looping sound (windy sound), then, all of the sounds after that don't play at all (water sound, zoomed out water sound, deer walking sound, character jumping, action music).. they're just all.. gone. But, I made some 'GoTo framelabel' buttons... If I jump to the 2nd framelabel (skips the intro music, and the first 3 sounds) where a deer comes out, then, for some reason, all of the sounds work fine from that point forward.?!? (including the sounds that didn't play at all if played from the beginning)

Could it be because my publish setting for audio is 128kbps, and my short intro music is 192kbps? It does sound a little different than if I were to play it in WinAmp, but could that be what's causing most of my other sounds not to play?

Flash CS4 Logtransport Stopped Working
Hi, Just started using CS4 and I get a message: "LogTransport has stopped working" every few minutes. Vista then says it is closing the application. No idea what logtransport does but when vista closes it, there doesn't seem to be any visible affect on the IDE.

I can't spot any pattern to it yet although it only seems to happen when I am doing something in Flash. I am on Vista x64. Anyone else had this or got any idea how to fix (one other case reported on Kirupa).

Flash Randomly Stopped Working
I have been using Flash MX 2004 for a while now, and it randomly stopped workin on my login account, I am currently a poweruser, and it wont load up, but when the admin logs on it works fine, I now need the Admin password eveytiem I need to use flash.

What setting can be changed that will allow me to use flash, without having to sign in as admin all the time???

Computer Running At 100% Eve After Flash Animation Has Stopped
I have been building a website for a friend of mine, and have borrowed some scripts to help me. It works exactly as I wanted it to (zooms in and around the movie with simply clicks - all actionscripted), but when the 'animating' has stopped, flash is still processing the code, and making my computer run at close to 100%. Can anyone help me out with this? I need it to stop running through the script once it has finished the zooming, and then re-run through the script when it needs to again. [F8] I Think I Broke Flash 8? (Ctrl+Alt+2 Stopped Working)
Oh my goodness what have I done? A while back I was working on something and suddenly the "center horizontally" and "center vertically" options which I use A LOT just stopped working. Not just the shortcuts (ctrl+alt+2 and ctrl+alt+5) but actually choosing it from the modify>align menu doesn't work either. I've closed Flash and reopened it dozens of times, and my computer has been shut down and restarted and it still has this problem. Did I somehow manage to "turn off" the centering feature? Please help if you can!

UPDATE: Nevermind everybody. It's fine. I did a search and found someone else with the same problem a while ago. I'm okay! Can I delete my own posts? I don't see the option anymore. Kill this thread please.

Flash CS3 - Shape Tweens Stopped Working..
Hello All.

Working on a rather large flash file, but am somewhat a newb .

I have been using shape tween to create a bunch of effects and now the shape tween function has completely stopped working?

I create a shape on keyframe say 60 and create a keyframe on frame 90 and delete the first shape and make a new one...

right click - create shape tween and nothing happens on layers 61-89?

This is the process i have used to create every other tween i have in the file and it hasn't been a problem but now it won't do it no matter what I do.

I'm guessing i've hit some kind of option or something?

Stopped Using Swish, And Taking A Dive Into Flash CS3

Ive been using swish since 2001, casually. At the time, I didn't want to get serious about it, but now I am into making something out of flash on my personal website. I tried to do dressup games using swishmax, but I came to a screeching halt when I wanted to create a save frame feature for the user of my dressup games.

I already had flash 8 professional and flash cs3 installed on my pc, and I was not going to pay for swishmax2, so i decided to take a deep dive into flash. There are a few things that I am familiar with, and plenty that I am not. I still dont want to do a whole bunch, but I would like to create tabs. So far I have enough tutorials on drag and drop, and actually saving a snapshot of a frame using php. Call me silly, but I even had problems making a button stop the music from playing in one of my dressup games that I did using flash 8, heck, i had problems with buttons.

I really dont like to sit and whine, but Im in pretty bad shape when it comes to learning flash. Ive been avoiding it since Flash4

Can someone help me out? Im not asking for one to do the work, I just would like to learn a few things that would help me accomplish making dressup games in flash, maybe simple game elements like a cutscene or keeping a score after someone finished dressing up one of my dolls. Nothing really complicated.

For Some Reason My Flash Movies Stopped Working
If you check out the video section of my website at http://www.jonbarron.org/video/video.php and try clicking on any of those videos (which are videos I made in Flash 8 by the way) you will notice that none of them ever load. I tried them in IE, Firefox, and Safari and in Safari they don't load the first time but if you refresh the page they load just fine. The funny thing is that in IE they don't load AT ALL even if you refresh the page.

The even funnier thing is that last week ALL of these videos loaded fine in every single browser out there. Since then I haven't touched a single one of these pages so I'm wondering what in the heck could be going on here. Any ideas guys?

Flash Smart Preloader Stopped Working

I have created a preloader that can be dropped into any movie and it will pop up with a bar (named barInstance which is 96 pxls wide - i tried using the explicit number to see if it was that) that goes from 0% to 100% and advances the playhead on to the next frame in the parent movie.

I've used it on a couple of other projects and it was working fine with this project but it suddenly stopped working. I've checked the code over and it's fine as far as i can see (i've included it below) but when i checked the bandwidth profiler, the movie seems to load before the preloader. The preloader is on frame 1 at the bottom of the layer stack and the publish settings are set to load from the bottom up.

Installed Flash Player 6 -> Site Stopped Working
Hi,

I have this flash movie which uses LoadVariables to load some data into a movie clip.

After the command has been executed, the movie sits in a loop waiting for one of the incoming variables to trip it.

When this has happened, the movie moves to a different frame and displays the variables.

However, with the Flash Player 6, this rarely happens.

Instead, the loop trips and none of the variables are visible. If one moves to the next frame and back the variables then appear as they should.

Incidentally, the variable which trips the loop is the very last variable written to the page requested with LoadVariables.

Also, this page is requested using https.

Audio Continues To Play After Stopped Testing Flash?
I have a Flash with music in it. When I hit Play, the music plays. But when the Flash is done, the music continues until it is done, even though the frames is not enough to complete the song.

So, why does it do this, and how do I stop it when testing? Right now, I have to wait for the entire song to finish, but I would rather not do that.

I have built a program in flash which printed as bitmap some content. It printed fine using flash player 6 and 7. I have now tried to go back and use it in flash player 8 and the print is no longer working. How can I get this to work?

Adobe Flash CS Has Stopped Working On Message On Vista
I'm Working on a project for over a month now and suddenly I get a Message from Vista:

"Adobe Flash CS has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and Notify you if a solution is available."

After restarting I get the same message.
I tried a older version of my project file....and strange enough I get the same message.
I tried the same FLA on my older XP machine and It works just fine.
So I tried several things to fix this but this irritating message won't go away!
Also when I start a new project, the message appears but only after I saved the file?

Tried: Running in XP compatible mode, Administrator mode, Switch off UAC and DES, installed Flash again...and some other stuff.

Vista just kills flash every time..Switching back from Vista to XP, would have been an option but thats an other story ;)

If anybode can help me out It would be great!

How Can Flash Be Added To Web Page And Not Be Stopped By Popup Blocker
Any time I add flash to a web page and try to preview it the popup blocker stops the flash content and I have to allow (blocked content) in order to view entire page. The question realy, is it possible to build a web page in flash that won't get auto blocked by popup blocker.

i have external .jpgs being called into a flash mx movie using the loadmovie command. i wanted to replace the .jpg and have the .swf update with the new image showing. instead it seems like either the .swf or the .jpg is being cached and the movie never updates. is there a way to have the .swf and the .jpgs not cache?

Hi there,

I'm working on a little project where I'm loading data (read: .swf files)externaly on several different frames. Because of this, my preloader doesn't work that good, because of the extra content that get's loaded later on.

So now I'm wondering if it's possible to first preload all thes files in a container movieclip using a MovieClipLoader, and then remove this container. Would the swf files then be cached and ready-for-use later on?

My problem is that, these XML has information that I don't want people know... and it starts when the swf and xml files are cached by the browser/flash player

but problem is that my header loads everytime i click new page, is it possible browser load file from cache once it is downloaded from server? and also reconize what current button is hilighted?

i am also reading some article to fix it, i think that is that most common problem. i hope someone knows this. any help is appreciate it.

sorry didint know how to call this but what im interested in is knowing if for ex....i want a movie clip to play once as the site is 1st loaded onto the fresh & new visitors machine but stays as something else(maybe a still frame with an img) for returning visitors.

the main reason i want this is because i want that video to play for the new ppl that come to the site the 1st time around, and plays something else when they reload/come back to the site. since the movie has sound, its not something i want to play EVERYtime they come back in you know.

Hi all,

This question is more about updating swf and xml files on the browser. I have a gallery site that has muliple swf files loaded on the master swf on button click. These swf files loads an xml file.
My problem is that whenever I update the xml or swf file, the browser still has the flash cache stored so I have to manually refresh the file to see the changes. As in, I can't just refresh the index.html. I have to refresh the /xml/filename.xml or /flash/filename.swf
Which works but then when other people view the site again, they won't know that they have to refresh the files because they dont know the file name or path. Know what I mean?

I researched the net and found solutions like using index.php instead of html or using a random variable string like index.php?mod="34342234" but that only seems to update the master swf.

Does anybody have solutions for this? Thanks

How can i stop browsers from caching flash animations? I created an MP3 player which loads an xml playlist but the problem is that IE caches the movie + files that are imported to it. The playlist is randomised using a php script but if it's cached, the new version is never loaded (i've tried meta tags to make the content not be cached etc).

Any ideas?

i have a short movie as part of the main header navigation. whenever a link is clicked, the movie plays over again.

my question is, does the browser cache the swf file or does it request it from the webserver each time?

I seem to have a problem with an ASP page that uses a FLASH header.

This is my online catalog. When a user add something to their cart and then removes the item it shows the basket is empty. Then if you navigate away and click the 'View Cart" Icon it shows the item as still there, even though the database shows that the item is gone. The only way to permanently remove the item is to refresh the basket page after you have removed the item...

I'm not the one who created the FLASH header so I was hoping someone here can tell me what I need to change to make the page refresh from the link.

Flash And The Cache?
Ive noticed that when putting my flash on a live server to test the loading routines that I h ave to explicitly clear the cache from whichever browser im using before it will update to the new files..

This wouldnt really be a problem but the site im working on is going to go live with some areas "under construction".. namely an extra gallery that will be added later at the request of the client..

problem is if some user checks back and it reloads from the cache and not the updated files.. then well.. you see the problem..

i doubt your average user will know to clear the cache before checking the site again, they will just see the old stuff and assume that it hasnt yet been updated..

is there anyway to solve this issue? or is it just "one of those things"

Does Flash have it's own "cache" ?

I have FLA#1 that has a mc that loads FLA#2's swf... However, every time I do Test Movie on FLA #1 after making a change to FLA#2, it's using an older version of the swf.

I will note though that FLA#2 publishes to another server on our network. FLA#1 then uses the absolute URL to do the loadMovie.

Any ideas why? I have to completely exit Flash and then reopen it EVERY time I do any change to FLA#2.......

I have to design a page that will be build using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and JSP in a Java Portal environment.

When using graphics the performance most of the time sucks, because all graphics have to be loaded every time the page is loaded/visited.

So I was thinking using Flash for the graphics because somebody ones told me, that he tought Flash movies would cache, even when using SSL.

Is this true? Should there be made some server settings?
