i got this file of ultrashock.com and i got a swf file and a fla. the swf file works great but when i open the fla in MX and then generate a swf out of it it does not work. could you please look at the file and tell me why this is not workinh in MX?

Catbert, Help Or Anyone Else Who Know Flash 5 Actionscript.
I've made this slidey blocks puzzle, where you have to slide them into the right posistion to make a picture.

I've followed the instructions from the Gary Rowsenzweig Flash 5 book but, I need it so it gives a 'congratulations' message once you've done the puzzle, and it doesn't say how to do that.

I've done the congratulations movie clip and called it "congrats" and I want it to appear on top of all the puzzle with a 're-scramble' button, that will randomly scramble up the puzzle again. How can I do this?

Catbert...a Little Problem With Your Slidey Puzzle File.
Well it's not actually yours it's mine. I copied the code from yours into mine and it's gone kinda wrong.
When I test the movie the blocks don't scramble and the output box pops up saying '15' nothing else.
Also it's shunted them all out of line.

The one thing that works is the 'congratulations' scne , thanks for that!

i've posted this before, but the answers i got didnt help me enough.
I'm trying to make my own scroll bar for text. I'm able to make and script the up and down buttons with no trouble, but i need help with the actual scroll bar. I know how to make the MC for the bar, and how to restrict its movement so that it is only able to move so far up and down, and no left-right movement at all...
The trouble is, how do i script it so that its movement is proportional to the amount of text loaded into the text box it controls?

i have been pointed to a few tutorials, but they were all deprecated code and not quite what i was looking for...

Any help, preferably some good script i can disect, would be appreciated...

I saw it on a tutorial site http://www.sephiroth.it/phpwiki/index.php/_lockroot and it is supposed to lock the _root for that file so say for instance you had a swf file called loader.swf load in another movie loadMe.swf into it then if you had used any _root assigned variables in the movie being loaded then they would still access the variables from that file and not think that the _root was from the file that loaded it!

I couldn't get this to work though. I tried a simple :

in the file that is being loaded in but it just returned undfined! Does anyone know if this is supposed to work or whether it was an undocumented feature in Flash that is no longer supported or if there is another way of implementing this?

GET URL Problem That I Have Not Heard Of
Recently did a job for a client where a flash game was compiled into an EXE file. One of the buttons lnks to his website and works well with geturl... but clients complains that when he clicks on the link, the window opens BEHIND the flash movie window. When I tried it opens fine ABOVE and on top.

Anyone knows why this is happening? or is it just my client's machine? For the record, I set geturl to "blank" and "self" and still works fine on my machine.

i have several swf that i have placed inside of a html page, i have set the paramaters to be transparent. on the pc it works and looks good. on the mac it does not. has anyone ever ran into this issue? and if so how did you correct the problem?

Weirdest Error I’ve Ever Heard
Today while trying to get my Flash movie into XHTML I noticed the movie just would not play, XHTML, HTML, or PHP.

It work's just peachy when it's not in XHTML but when it is it won't play. I'm using Dreamweaver so it's not like I coded the XHTML wrong.

I'm loading 6 files into a container clip.

the native swfs have sound but when they are imported into the clip no sound.

the sounds are attached (not dragged on the timeline))

I hope I have taken every necessary measure not to embarass myself with my first post in this forum. I chose the appropriate subforum, I used the search-function beforehand and made sure my user name is not too odd.

Hi all,

A developer that I work with has been telling me that Flash player Version 7.0.14 is quite buggy. Security leeks, functionality problems, stuff like that.
But I haven't been able to find any proof of his comments out on the internet. If Version 7.0.14 does have problems wouldn't there be articles on that somewhere? Has anyone else heard or experienced problems with the plugin version?

My company deals with the Whole "protected health information" issue, and paranoia runs rampant. Any thoughts or direction on where i could find info would be greatly appreciated.

Strange Interval Problem... Never Even Heard Of This Before
Hey Guys,

So I'm helping someone out here at work and he's trying to set / clear an interval... The setting is fine the first time, but then doubles in speed when the link is clicked again, or he goes to view a different gallery. I ran a trace on the variable name and get this... the interval variable name (we'll call it nInterval for the sake of the thread) is auto incrementing for no apparent reason. The first time that nInterval is traced it is "undefined", the next time it is 6, then 10, then 14, then 18, then 22 and on and on, increasing by 4 each time. We've gone through his code and there is NOTHING that is incrementing that nInterval variable... has anyone seen anything like this before?

MouseEvent.CLICK Is Not Being Heard By Switch Logic?

In my movie, I have three buttons, each assigned with MouseEvent.CLICK listeners:

ncaaButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onButtonClick);

They all have a listener function called onButtonClick.
Inside of onButtonClick, I set up a switch:

Problem Loading External Text. Anyone Heard Of This?
Here's my problem I made a movie that loads an external swf file. The external swf then in return is supposed to load text from a txt document. The problem is that the text box is appearing but not the text. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Anyone Heard Of This? Weird File Download Problem
We have a Flash website that, among other things, allows users to download files. For 90-95% of users this seems to work just fine, but 5-10% of our users cannot download the files.

What happens: The save file dialog box comes up, the user chooses a location to save to and hits save. The save file dialog closes, and nothing else opens.

The problem, if it occurs on a machine, occurs regardless of the browser the user is using.

We're trying to figure it out, but it's very strange and I thought I'd see if anyone had experienced anything similar.

Sound File Not Heard When Inside Function Of Another Imported Swf
Hi I will try to be as clear as I can.
Using flash mx2004.
Have this set up..

swf_no1 file calling up another swf_no2 inside it...

All sound files inside swf_no2 can be heard when called thru swf_no1 except any sound files inside a function in swf_no2.

If swf_no2 is played by itself -all sound files located and heard nicely thank you.LOL.

Does anyone know why this should be the case and how I can get the sound files to be heard whilst being called through swf_no1????

I Heard "Flash + PHP + MySQL" Gets Slow...
I was asking a web developer/designer in Ukraine, if he could manage TemplateMonster's Flash template with opensource CMS, Mambo.

The answer I got was that there could be some troubles like the loss of speed (perhaps flexibility in this case), although this is technically possible task.

What could be THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM with this?

Also, it would be great to have your opinion on Flash sites with music. I personally think it's good to play some music while visitors see your site. OTOH, some people may be listening to his/her own music with iPod. (I wonder if I could get this part from the Marketing point...)

I have been working on my site...and when I test it..everything looks and works fine. When I put the .swf files on geocities...I view them...and the whole site/movie is "STRETCHED" to my monitor resolution. (1024x768) I checked on res of 800x600..same thing!! When I created my movie...the dimensions were 700x350. WHAT IS HAPPENING?..and mostly,..how do I fix it?? Also,....when I click on one of the buttons to call on an external .swf.......it doesnt play right. Everything is fine when I "TEST" movie....but on the server....I get these two problems.. P.S. Update...I uploaded same files to another server..all works fine...Theother problem is the resolution problem..why can you even pick a stage size if it doesnt matter on the finished product?? GEEZ..LOL..

I have been trying to do something using action script for days now, and despite having no luck asking about functions last time, I am trying again to get help from the comminuty here at Flash Kit.

I am using a function, and whilst in that function I want to move a said Movie Clip (with an instance name) accross/up/down the screen steadily. If while in the function I use 'set property' to move the movie clip, it moves it so fast, that it appears to be instantanious!!

1) Is there anyway to use some sort of delay while in a loop?

2) Is there anyway while in a function to goto a frame and play, but return to that funtion afterwards?

Any help will be appreciated.

Under the advise of the forum I broke up my one swf(2.0meg) into 10 seperate swf's. I call them by >>>>

on (press) {
loadMovie ("company.swf", "dummy");
}

each movie has its own button..

the problem is when i press the button again it-reloads the swf into the blank mc (dummy) all over again. How would I change the code to check if its already loaded then play... like "IF swf is there PLAY, if not loadMovie then play" Something to that effect. If someone has a better idea I'd sure like to hear it.

Hi. i have asked this before, and the answer was great! But I want to ask it again because the answer wasn't something I had in mind, so now I will ask it again, but more specifically:

I know all about those "chromeless windows" you see at http://www.microbians.com, but that's not exactly what I want. I made a Flash site that has it's own title bar with a close button incorporated into it. Is there a way to launch the Flash site from a web page so that the flash that launches does NOT have an Internet Explorer title bar at all, nor does it have the microbians title bar. I'm sorry, i'm terrible at explaining stuff. Anyway, i just want it so that the ONLY thing that launches is the flash movie, with absolutely NO title bar or pre made buttons, like from microbians. If this is possible, please let me know. Thank you.

If i load an external swf into a dummy clip on the mainstage and basically park it. Can I call it later to _level.whatever and the swf will be already be cached?

I believe it may be because when you load movies in flash you must specify a level. _root = level 0. If you are loading your sound movie onto a different level then calling _root. won't access it.

i programmed the main site to load three separate movies and the whole thing works flawlessly on my computer. when it's uploaded, the 3 small movies don't load in to the main movie.

the code for the initial movie launch is:

loadMovieNum ("swf/portfolio.swf", 1);

it's an action on the main timeline. then the numbers have:

on (release) {
unloadMovieNum (1);
loadMovieNum ("swf/portfolio.swf", 1);
}

etc etc

as i said... this works perfectly on my computer. i loaded the site as a main swf and a directory "swf" with the other portfolios inside.

I am planning to go from Flash5 to MX. As I know now, it is possible to load jpg-images dynamically. In Flash5 I have used a preloader that is counting bytes loaded. If I load an image into a Flash MX-movie, will my preloader also count the bytes of that image?

OK can someone please help me with this as it's gettin beyond a joke.

I'm kinda new to flash but have built a site and everytime I view it in the web browser there is a white border round the edge.

I've tried various different publishing settings with no joy. I've read other threads about this and they give the same advice about changing the html doc. using "0" as a value for the position of the page. I'm completely stupid when it comes to this as I can't see where it needs to go? I'm using Flash 5 and simple text to change the html doc is this ok ?oh and I'm on a Mac. Can someone help me with this in plain english as I've lost my head trying to sort this out.

i have a horizontal scrolling movie which works fine. but I can't get all the images i need on one line. if you look at the slider movie, you can see i have several images i want to add to the line. someone suggested i shrink them and then when the movie plays, expand them? i have no idea. they just wont fit on the authoring environment space provided.
