Changing Working Area Size...



Hi
Is there a way to make the working area wider.
I'm not talking about the size property of the document.
I have a horizontal scrolling pic that is 1900 pxls wide
and I see that flash is only 700 pxls wide from 0 to the left
and right which makes 1400 pxls wide.
I really need to see my whole picture since it will have a lot of
buttons all along.
If anyone can help me in this I will be very grateful

Working Area? Not The Stage Size....but The Working Area Lol
You know how there is a little white square that represents the stage size? And then, if you zoom out all the way, you have only a certain amount of working area and stuff dissapears. Is there a way to make this area larger? I have huge movie clips I need to work with...thanks!

Changing Size Of Work Area
There's a way to manipulate the size of your working area isn't there? Like the white area that you build on. I'm still a beginner at this and so far have only made my dad's band's website ( http://falling-up.tripod.com ). I'm looking to re-design the site so there's frames and stuff like that, so it isn't so cramped. I also want to make it more professional looking, like change the colors around, add preloaders, animation and use gradients only where needed, stuff like that.

Changing Document Working Area
I'm trying to find out how to change the document working area. I know how to change the document size, that's not an issue but I have a problem with the predetermined size of the working area around the document (darker grey area when you zoom out). I want to change the size of that so that I can have longer lines of images or whatever else.

Changing Browser Size Based On Swf Size?
Hi guys, just curious on how to go about this.

I have a swf file with a link and this link opens another swf file. I want the swf file to open up in a browser,but i want it to be the width and height of the swf?

seems simple enough , just cant figure it out if has something to do with the publish settings or javascript.

Changing The Area Of The Hit Zone
I have a rounded shape that has a square hit zone. I want to be able to drag something into this rounded area but I dont want it to register the box around the shape.

I have tryed the shape as a movie clip, and as a button(changing the hit area) but none of it works. I think I may have to use code But I have no idea how to go about doing that please help.

Changing Rollover Area
Hi,

I made a button symbol with a piece of text, but the rollover action is only activated when the mouse is over the text itself and not a wider area like I would like.

I have attached the file and I would be greatful if anyone could tell me how I can get the mouseover to work over a a square around the 'home' button instead of directly over the text. By the way, I'm aware that i've used quite a strange way to do the rollover, but it's what's needed to complete a project (this is just a little preliminary work).

Changing Background Area
I've just reduced the size of the document background after finishing an animation (might have been unwise), and now all the action occurs outside the document. How do I drag everything at once to get it back into the visible area, or alternatively move the document area around? Am I making sense? Thanks!

Changing Area Colors With Actionscript?
Alrighty, a few weeks ago on flashkit there was a neat little piece of work involving a pen writing the word "eScribe".. I tried to copy it... The problem is, What i want to happen is i want my movieclip "pen" to trace a motion guide that i have drawn. The problem is that, i have it tracing the line, but i cant get it to find the location of the pen and then color that area black... Something like what i have below, but in actionscript =P
If someone could take what i have written and put it into actionscript for me, that would be great =P

For example, if user chooses "1980" in the combo box, Minnesota will be blue, but if user chooses "2004", Minnesota will be red. Any suggestion of an example of or tutorial on how to do this? At this point, I don't care if it's with AS2 or AS3.

I assume each geographic area would be an object whose color is set after each selection. But rather than start from scratch, I'd love to see an example that's close to what I want.

HELP - Changing An Image Box Into A Dynamic Content Area
How can i change an image box into an area for regular dynamic content?

At the moment this area loads of larger images of a thumbnail image. But i want it to load up normal content (Images and Text) and this will have to be scrollable up and down.

Any ideas??

Images Changing Width Within Constrained Area
Hello,

I'm creating a web site that is composed by 9 images, side by side. The site is 968 px wide and 200 px high. Each of the 9 images is 484 px wide and 200 px high originally, but they are masked so that they first appear to have the widths 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, and 484. When the user mouses over a picture, that picture is "swelling out" and showing itself in it's whole width (484), while the others "shrink" to give room for the big one. It's random which picture has the width 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, or 99, but the "chosen" picture is always 484 wide and the sum of the width of the other 8 pictures is always 484 as well.

In other words, I want to have the masks tween in size to reveal the image that is rolled over and at the same time have the other 8 masks randomly shrink only revealing a portion of each picture..

Does anyone have an idea of how this could be programmed?

Hi,

The usual newbie, have designed all my elements but not sure what canvas size to use, been given mixed opinion by friends. I want to ideally keep it for people with 1024x768 and higher. (not worried abt 800x600). What canvas size should i choose? My mac at work has 1152x870. All i want is, all my elements to be centralised in the web page and without any scroll bar.

I'm building a flash site with 1024 x 768 monitors in mind. What are the industry standards for the size of the flash file to allow for browser header and footers?

Multiple Rollovers Changing Whole Area In Flash: Problem
I have the following situation:

I have a large image that I want to create "hot spots" on. This is my lets say 1000 by 1000 image.

on that image i have two 50 by 50 squares one below the other.

I want to make it such that if I roll over one square the 1000 by 1000 image changes to a different image, and likewise for the second square.

I tried this using the button "up" properties as well as trying things with on rollover(). Apparently problems crop up due to the fact that the image being brought up by the rollover is very big and covers the other hotspot, and thus "covering" it and not allowing it to work.

What is the simplest (likely brut force) way of making this work? This is for a stand along application, so speed is not as much an issue.. note i have never really actionscripted..

Increasing Size Of Work Area
Does any body know if it is possible to increase the size of the work area in MX, or if their is a way around problems caused by working outside of the area. I've tried creating content in the area and then dragging it out but it wont publish correctly.

[CS3 AS2] Clickable Area Of MC Full Size
I know this is basic, but I lack the terms to use to search for the solution. I can do some advanced stuff in Flash, but when it comes to basics like this, I'm at a loss.

I'm trying to have two movieclips call the same function but pass to it a different argument to then process accordingly. What I've learned is that even though the MCs are small rectangles on the stage, their clickable area seems to span the entire stage. In this code example, when I click on one MC, the trace gives me both 1 and 2, as if both MCs had been clicked. What am I missing? Attached is the stripped-down FLA.

Increasing The Work Area Size?
Does anyone know if there is anyway to increase the size of the work area (the great area surrounding the stage).

If you keep zooming out you will eventually get a small square as the work area and a large greyer area that is unusable.

I have no idea why it's like this and it is infuriating as I'm trying to enlarge objects but a great amount and since Flash's transform properties NEVER work well when increasing the size by a large amount I have to use the resize tool. I can't use this when I cannot see the handles.

Gah Flash annoys me sometimes. Whats the point?!

Can anyone help me out before I put my keyboard through my screen?

Can You Re-size The Stage Area Mid Movie?
I want to make a flash window overlaid on a HTML page. Once someone clicks a button a sound begins but the stage shrinks to 1 pixel minimizes to the top left in a white area of the HTML page. I have searched for it but i cant find a function that would allow me to shrink the stage area to 1 pixel after the button is pressed. Im not worried about the HTML over lay as a i have a friend who is coding the page to help with that its just the reduction of the stage size via AS3 that has me stumped. Any Suggestions?

How To Dynamically Vary The Size Of Scrolling Area
Hi,

I would like to vary the size of the scrolling Area at runtime.

A movieclip contains a form. The form consists of a variable number of buttons. The movieclip shall be scrollable - but only if possible.

When I do the "classic" scrolling, I have to define a fixed size of the movieClip and a mask. But then the user is able to scroll even when there is no content in the scrollable area.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Dynamically Size Stage And Display Area?
I have a slideshow that loads from xml and fades in a variety of sizes of images in random positions. I'm trying to set it up so that the swf (which is in a div tag in an interface) will resize depending on the browser size and will use the NEW stage size to determine the random x/y positions of the images (without resizing them) and will skip any images that are too big for the stage size...

Any ideas if this is possible? Dynamically sizing and determining the "working area" of a swf based on the browser/div size??

About The Working Area...
Hello everyone!!! I'm quite new here if you've never seen me before...I'd be thankful if one of you answer my question...

I set up my working area as 550x440 pixels, but at the moment I run the SWF it shows all the objects as their original size, not only what I placed into the "white" working area...I mean, the canvas...

After all I placed a mask to the entire animation and my problem seemed to be solved but soon after I realized that this mask slows down many frames of the animation I don't know why....Is there another solution for that problem??? Because when I don't use the mask everything runs very well but the problem of the objects size is still there...

but in laying them out the workable area seems only to be about another movie width larger all round

I have a flash projector exe with dynamic text. Is it possible to make the height of the text area relative to the size of the projector window, so i can resize the projector and show more text and expand the scroll bar?

How To Limit Size An Object Extends Off The Stage Area
I'm using the code below for a prebuilt page flip application. The problem i am having is that when i create the to a certain size, say 570x200, the pages as they are flipped extend outside of the stage area and so are cut off on the final exported swf. make sense? Auto Adjusting Dynamic Text Area Size
Ok I have been looking all over the net, Google/Yahoo/Pixel2Life, and am not having any luck finding what I need. I am loading PHP Variables into flash and I am looking to auto adjust the dynamic text area size like that my scrollbar can adjust to the correct scrolling size. Right now all that I have done is created a huge text area like that I am sure the text will fit in there but when I scroll all the way down I get some blank space after a while.

[F8] Hit Area On Button Not Working...
hi all

i'm doing a map. on the map are little circle buttons that can be rolled over. once a user rolls over, i want them to see a little box pop up that has text information.

so i have set it up that you see the circle button on the Up state. on the Over state i have added the pop-up box. on the Hit state i have only left the circle and removed the text box.

but when i test this you have to rollover the text box to see it where i was expecting to be able to rollover the circle button to see the text box

what am i doing wrong???

On this stage is a big sized MC (1285 pix height) which will move around, according to button presses. The problem is i can't really work on the lower parts of this clip, because the scrollbars will not go that far down. I can only see this MC when i set the view option to 'show all', but when i do that, the size is too small to really do something, and tools don't work in the lower area. Can i change the size of this working area, i.e. like it can be changed in QuarkXpress?

Movie --> Button Hit Area Not Working
I've followed the instructions provided in the tutorial "Buttons that animate forward and backwards" by Jim Tudesco, but whenever I rollover any part of the movie (instead of just the hit area) the movie plays. This is creating some major problems for me. Does anybody know what I could be doing wrong?

? ROLL_OVER Not Working Over Whole Object Area ?
Hi,

Now I am experiencing some weirdness on my roll-overs. I have a movieClip called "illustration". Illustration contains three children: "IllustrationText", "IllustrationTextRed", and a square vector graphic (distorted in illustrator) to sit below those two text objects.

The roll-over doesn't appear to be triggered by the square vector graphic (I want it to be triggered by this)
The roll over appears to be triggered by the text outline in some areas but in others it appears to be triggered by the square vector graphic.

Anybody ever seen this happen??

Extension Of Working Area In Flash
Hi,

Is there any way of extending the canvas/working area (not the document area) in Flash? (the grey area) Im constructing a graphic and it is longer than the entire working area.

Stage Position In Flash Working Area
I've been working with a movie here at work for a while now. I took it home on the weekend to do some more work on it, and now, back at work, the Stage is aligned all the way to the top-left for the (stupidly limited) Flash working area.

I had some linked items on a Guide layer that were to the left of the Stage, and I can't get at them at all now - not even when I click on their keyframe in the Timeline and manually move them with the cursor keys!

How can I center the Stage in the Flash working area again?? How did this happen??

Styled Text Area Quit Working?
I created an entire web site using the attached code to scores of Text Area Components (originally in Flash 8 using AS 2.0 and saved for Flash Player 8 delivery). This code was placed on the frames in which the various Text Area Components resided. Only the Instance Names were changed (both on the component and in the AS for that frame). The sample code I am attaching is one such example of the frame code for a Text Area Component with an Instance Name of "MeetConnallyText".

This was working perfectly online for the past 15 months. I am now using Flash CS3 on Leopard. Today I opened the Fla. for this site, just changed a graphic and the re-published the site using the same settings as always Player 8, AS 2.0, only the Color Styles and CSS Formatting vanished?

I finally replaced the Text Area Components with the ones included with CS3 and gave them matching Instance Names. The external XML Text DOES LOAD into the Text Area Component - so PART of my script appears to be working.

My problem is ALL MY CSS FORMATTING is not being recognized and the BACKGROUND COLOR for the Text Area component is also ignored>

What changed? How can I fix this - the whole site looks like crap!

Simple Button Issue, Hit Area Not Working.
Hi.

Ok, so i have made countless buttons and have never had issues before. But on the site im working on now, i am having issues with the hit frame. its a simple button so i just made a rectangle for the hit stage. It works fine within the flash file, but when i export the movie, the buttons are very touchy. Almost as if i had left the text as the hit stage only. It is hard to pinpoint the active area on th ebuttons and the hit area seems misaligned or something.

Im really stumped and would love some help on this. I hope its just something stupid im doing. thanks in advance.

MC Changing Size.......
hi, I made an MC, and another MC inside it. The second MC duplicates itself and "floats" in a random direction (they are asteroids in a game).

i did the bullet hitTest for the first MC (the one that has asteroid mc's) As i see it, it hitTests the whole first Movie that changes in size when the asteroids drift away from it, but it is always a square. is there any way to change that. So it goes around the asteroids, or does the MC perimeter always have to be square? So right now the bullets hit test if they are between asteroids.

any ideas?

I was wondering how would one go about changing the height and width of multiple movieclips when you press a button.
I'd like it if they could animatedly change all smooth and stuff
