Controlling Frames
Okay.. i have a flash menu bar and want to have frames so that the menu (in the top frame) can control the content (in the bottom frame) without being reloaded every time...
i have tried tutorials on this, but none have really helped...
i think all i need to know is how to set it up in dreamweaver mx 2004
i have the button actions as follows:
on (release){
getURL("page.html","bottomFrame")
}
how can i set this up in dreamweaver?

hi and thanks for trying to help me, and many others which i belive have the same problem. Probably its very simple but i cant figur it out. Just downlaod my zipped fla and you will understand my question or read below.
I got three button:s(1-3) and there three mc:s(1-3). Everything lays in one stopped frame on the main stage. The mc:s has different amont of frames but all of them follow the same behavior. The play up to a "turning point" and stop. Then they play the rest of the frames untill the end of the mc "down point".
What i whant to do is. When u push a button1 it should play mc1 up to the mc1:s "turning point" and stop. But if another mc2 already is at its "turning point" it should first play the rest of mc2:s frames until that mc2 reaches its end and then begin to play mc1 from the begining up to its turning point. If u push button1 when mc1 ist on its "turning point" flash should just play the rest of mc1:s frames until it reaches its downpoint.
I would be very glad if the code easy could be used on lets say six mc and there six buttons. But usaly im not so stupid so if u give me the start i should be able to fix that.

Controlling Swf's In Other Frames?
Hi,

Controlling Frames Per Second
Hello All:
I am going to loade movie "b" with FPS 12 in a movie "a" with FPS 30. when I see the results, movie "b" takes the FPS of movie "a" which I dont want to happen. Is it possible to control the FPS dynamically?

Controlling Swf's In Separate Frames
Is it possible to have 2 .html frames each with a flash movie and the 2 movies interact with eachother?
Such as a menu in one frame and a submenu in the other.
When you click on a link in the menu... the submenu will go to and play a specific set of frames.

Controlling Swf's In Different Frames Of Frameset
i have an internal site i've developed that uses a frameset containing three frames...left, top, and main. all three frames contain their own swf file. the left frame is the navigation, the top is location and date & time stamp, and the main (obviously) contains the "main" text or graphics.
what i need to know is whether or not it is possible to tell the buttons inside the navigation frame to target certain points (GoToAndStop) in the other two swf files instead of having to load new swf files into each particular frame.

Controlling Sounds/frames
right now i have 2 sounds, on one layer, each in it's own keyframe. the first is supposed to play normally and stop at the end. the second is supposed to pick up immediately after the first and loop.
i read through the tutorials within the program and it mentioned an OnSoundcomplete action. i think that's what i'm looking for but i'm not too familiar with action script yet so i'm not sure how to incorporate it. i knew a little flash a loooong time ago but i've forgotten it almost completely now. i know this is a very simple task, but i can't figure this out for the life of me. i've been sitting here for at least a couple hours trying to get this **** to work. i'd appreciate any help

Controlling Movies In Different Frames
I would like to know if it is possible to control a swf movie from another swf movie where they are both in different frames. I.e I have my navigation swf and I would like it to control the frame position in the other movie.

Controlling Frames In MC With Y Or X Position From Other MC?
Hi,
It's official I cant code if my life depended on it, not sure why but the simplest codes are killing that used to work before .
I'm trying to make it so, when my MC instance "dragger" is dragged down every pixel, the other MC with instance "knife" with an animation inside will go forward 1 frame (per pixel dragger moves). When dragger is released, it should snap back to original position as well as knife snapping back into 1st frame.
Basically I'm trying to learn a flip-book type of effect.
Even my drag codes arent working, I'm trying to set boundaries for _x and _y values of dragger as well but no luck here. Any help is appreciated, at least with this dragging bit lol! Thanks.

Controlling Frames In External Files
Ok... this is confusing.. but..
I have a movie that loads in top_header.swf, and middle_main.swf. These are loaded into 2 blank movie clips, top_empty and middle_empty, respectively. Okay... well can i make it so when i press a button in top_header.swf, it goes to a certain frame in middle_main.swf? Can you control an externally loaded .swf with another externally loaded one? If not, what would the best approach be? Thanks

Controlling Movies Across HTML Frames?
I have been trying to figure this out for a while and would love some help.
I am designing a site that must incorporate a main HTML page - so that the flash is only being used as navigation. However, for my design to work, I have to create 3 frames - 2 with flash, and 1 with HTML. The problem is that I need the flash movie in Frame 1 to be able to communicate with the movie in Frame 2, and the movie in Frame 2 to be able to change the page in Frame 3. Changing the page I can do, but how do I get a movie in one HTML based frame to be able to control a movie in another frame?

Controlling Movie Frames Via Combo Box.
Hello all,
I posted earlier about wanting to create a facemaker type application and have so far learned about drag and drop MCs. So far so good.
I now have several drag and drop movie clips, each with 4 frames in my project. I now want to control which frame my drag and drop movies display by a combo box. In other words, combo box one will have four choices, each pertaining to which of MC1's four frames will be displayed. Catch my drift?
So eventually my goal is to have four draggable movie clips..
( mc1, mc2, mc3, mc4)
each with 4 frames
and four combo boxes (cb1, cb2, cb3, cb4)
each with four variables.
So that by selecting variable "1" in cb1 displays frame "1" in mc1.
So on and so on.
Does that make sense?

Controlling The Sequence Through Scenes Or Frames
I have constructed a simple Flash movie with two scenes. On the first scene I have a button which when actions is meant to take you to scene two. The problem I get is that when i test the movie out it just plays continuously through the scenes as a loop..
I need it to stop on the first scene and only go to the second once the button is pressed. The same can be said for frames, how can i control the movie to only move onto other frames only when a button is actioned instead of just automatically looping through the frames when played???
probably a real simple thing im missing but any help would be cool

Buttons Controlling Movie Frames
ok... im tryin to make a knockoff of the old egeis site.... with the folders fading in and out and masks and whatnot using the images as guides.... and im kinda stuck....
i have created the folders that fade in and out as a seperate .swf to play in the background... the original has stops at the correct points.... but as im sure you know.. when i import it into my main document.. the stops are gone.... so i have dropped the .swf into my main doc... opened it and added a layer to it so i can add the stop... now... what im not sure about is how... when i click on a button to go to a diffrent section.. can i have that .swf continue to play the fade out.. than repeat for the next section?... am i making this much harder than it has to be?... the folders are just eye-candy... the actual content is going to be in another .swf. would it just be easier for me to add the folder fading into my actual main document?
if this makes no sense to anyone... let me know... and i will send you my files.. so you can better understand what i am talking about.
to reiterate what i am asking...
1) i have a main document that has the buttons...each button will represent a diffrent section of the site... i know how to have it load the diffrent sections (content) from diffrent .swf files
2) between my back ground layer and the content layer i want to add some "eyecandy".. folders that will fade in.. b4 the content appears... than fade out when a diffrent button has been pressed.. and loop around for the next fade in.
3) i have imported my folder.swf file into the main doc... opened it up, added another layer with a stop at frame 55 of 87....
4) when the button has been pressed... how do i have the folder.swf continue to frame 88 and loop back again.
i have been racking my brain for a while.. and i have a feeling its pretty obvious... im just missing it

I have an HTML document that is basicly a 4 frame set. In one frame set I have a basic Play,Pause,Forward,Backward type interface that is an SWF. I need for the media interface SWF to control an SWF in another HTML frame. Does anybody know how I would go about doing this?

Controlling Frames Within A Movie Clip
Hello again. I have another question.
I want to be able to control the frames in a movie clip by calling up frame labels. The movie clip is basically a menu. When the user clicks a button that would be on the stage, it would bring up the specific frame label in the movie clip. Problem is I have no clue how to attach the movie clip to the button. Controlling Multiple Movies Through Frames
Is there anyway to process information from one flash movie into another between html frames? For example, say I have a top frame with a flash menu, and in the bottom frame, I have a submenu interface and html text. When I click a button in the top frame, I want it to change the submenu text in the bottom frame without altering any of the html that is currently present. Is this possible? Button Controlling Frames In A Loaded .swf Wrong...
hey everyone, in my newest project i have a main template that has navigation buttons, and in the main part of the movie it loads an external .swf into an empty movie clip. the buttons in the main movie are designed to tell the loaded swf to go to the correct frame label to display the right information. this works (my actionscript is something like on(release){ _root.container.gotoandStop("home"); } and it works basically. however if the movie is at the frame that you want to go to, when you click that button, it skips to the next frame label. it should, however, do nothing because you are already at that frame label. but for some reason, if you click the button of the page you are already at, it will send you to the next label. then at the next label if you hit that button again it will send you to the previous one. whats goin on here???

Simple Problems With AS Controlling Movies And Frames (mx)
I know nothin of actionscript, so some mistakes here will be elementary
I have a simple movie that plays, then stops on a menu to play 3 other movies. at the end of each of these movies i'd like to go back to the first movie, but to the frame where the menu is, except I get 4 or 5 errors when the main movie starts.
this is the AS I'm using on the first frame of the main movie:

? Controlling Play Head For A Certain Number Of Frames Whit AScript
How about that I want to crontrol the playhead so that I can play a certain number of frames ( lets say 20 ) and then stop. All this whit only action script.
Not a Action in a frame but only a Button Action.
Ex:
I have a button that when I hit it the play head goes at frames 50 of a movie clip and stop after 20 frames of playing ( so it is now at 70).
But the Idea is to have no action in the frames of the movie clip that the play head is moving in!
Is it possible? Or I am just out of range whit this Idea ?

Controlling Timeline Of "wrapper" Movies With Internal Movie Frames?
Hey,
I've constructed what I hoped would be a functioning slideshow, only I'm stuck with it displaying only the firts picture.
I've got the following setup:
The slideshow appearing on a page, it is a movieclip called "slideShow_mc"
Inside this clip is a series of movie clips, each set on their own frame. Each clip has a name like "slide1_mc," "slide2_mc" and so on.
Each slide is itself a movie with a 15 frame timeline, with an alpha channel motion tween so that the images fade from frame one to frame 15, all purty like. So, in all it goes three layers deep.
Now, on the last frame of each slide, I've got a "stop();" action, so that they won't loop -- however, this also means that only the first image loads, and I can't get the playhead to advance to the next slide :/
I've tried placing this on the same frame as the stop action:
slideShow_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);
...but it doesn't work.
I've tried:
slideShow_mc.gotoAndPlay(slide2_mc);
and
_parent.gotoAndPlay(2);
and
_parent.Play();,
and even
nextScene();
All without any luck.
I've got my copiues of the FlashMX 2004 Bible and the O'Reilly's AS book open, but I can't seem to find what I don't know I'm looking for

ok, the title was a bit of a mouthful but hey, i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this problem :
i know how to control content being loaded into frames, from within a flash movie (using get url) but, i'm not sure how to go about calling various parts of a flash movie that is situated within a different frame with the html page, from the one it's being called from.
so, for example, say i have a set of buttons within one flash movie, that when clicked moves the timeline in the other flash movie (within a different frame) to frame 5 or whatever. see what i mean?
would it be something like this?

Puzzled On Frames Loaded And Total Frames Calculation Issue
The Goal:
I am trying to find out if the last frame of a loaded swf has been completed so I can then unload that swf and replace it with another swf.
The Process:
I have on the main time line a MC called movie1. (The main time line is only one frame long)
In the first frame on the main time line I have the following code:

This code will load and play the movie into the MC and gives me an alert that the "Frames Not Loaded". Thats great because it means I am loading the movie correctly and testing the total frames correctly. But I need to know when the last frame of the loaded swf has played so I can then load another. Even if I take out the else statment in my testing code I still can't get it to tell me when all the frames are loaded.
Any help would be great.

Looping Frames X-y For 'z' Amount Of Times Then Proceeding To Frames After Loop

I'm relatively new to Flash and have not done much work with the AS. I was hoping someone here could enlighten me on an area which has been stumping me.
I need to know how to loop (for example) frames 1 to 5, 4 times then continue to frame 6 until the last frame, then go back to frame 1, thus re-entering the loop, etc. I do believe it would involve something like this... but then again I'm a newbie to this so... what do I know (which is why I wanna learn)

Looping First 38 Frames 7 Times, Then Playing The Whole 76 Frames And Stopping
Hi Guys, I have a movieclip that the first half has one set of movements, but the second half changes. I want to be able to loop this movieclip (instance on the root), so that it plays the first 38 frames 7 times...i.e., loops 7 times, and the 8th time, it plays the whole clip, then stips...the movie is 76 frames long.
I know it's going to be...make i=1 first time...add 1 to i each time...and if i=7, then play past frame 38...and put a stop(); at the end of the movie, but i don't know how that code would look, if I could please ask for more...basic (ugh...) help...
In other words, how do I write this (pseudocode) in AS:
i=1
play frames 1-38
i=i+1
if i is less than 8, play frames 1-38
if i is more than 7, play the whole movieclip, all 76 frames

How To Repeat A Group Of Frames Without Adding A Million Frames?
Hello,
I have made a small flash intro using Flash MX 2004 Professional. The intro is about 3 seconds long. Here's what I want to do:
I want to add a few frames to the intro where I add things shooting through randomly, and I need these few frames to repeat themselves while keeping the main intro sort of paused in the background... How would I do this? How would I "pause" the background without adding a million frames? And is there some way that I can loop a group of frames? Please respond as "newbish" as possible so I can understand

Copy Frames Paste Frames... File Size.
Sooo I have a bunch of vector art I imported from swift3d and than I want to reverse the animation later on in the project so I copy the frames and than I paste them then I use the reverse frames option.... When I compile it doubles the size when I compile.... I know that maybe I should expect this. But if the symbols are already in the library why doesnt flash just use those symbols again and not increase in size?'

Film Frames To Flash Frames
I want to make some small animations and in order to capture movement and forms 'correctly' I want to use digital video.
I would then turn up the contrast to define the form and shapes and then trace in flash or freehand. Hereby creating a frame by frame animation.

Move All Clips For 30 Frames ? Can't Use "copy Frames" Why ?

I have a animation with masks, movieclips loads of keyframes...all in all about 25 layers.
How can I insert at the beginning in every layer for example 30 emty frames ?
Another thing:
I tried to make a movieclip out of this animation because I don't want to handle all these layers but it doesn't work. The option "copy frames" is not active. Why ?

Replacing Frames With Other Frames
I would like to know if it's possible to replace existing frames with other frames. In my case I have made an animation of a talking guy with text appearing over him, but at some point he stops talking and I forgot to insert the frames where his mouth is closed, so I'm stuck with no text but a mouth that is moving anyway. I would like to replace the sequence of 'moving mouth frames' with a sequence of 'closed mouth' of the same length.

Controlling Many Mc's
hi
my question is....
i have 5 movie clips of a slider going in and out and frame 1 on all of them is the slide all the way in, frame 20 all the way out and frame 40 all the way in again, and a stop action on frames 1 and 20, when you get to frame 40 an actionscript takes you back to frame one and stops you there
i have invisible buttons covering all the mc's
what i want to do is on release, bar1.gotoandplay(2)
but also if any of the others mc's (bar2,3,4,5) are out (at frame 20) tell it to gotoandplay(21) (which will retract the slider)
i only want one of the sliders visable at any given timeand selecting another retracts the first
any ideas on the code for that?

Controlling FPS
Is there some way to make sure that a file that is set to 24FPS allways shows with 24FPS? Maybe a script that checks if the computer that the movie runs on is good enough to show it at the correct speed, and if not so it loads another movie that it can show at correct speed?

Controlling MC`s
Hi there, O great masters of flash,
I need your help, i have this anoying little problem and i have tried (almost) everything and it will not work !!!
I have a modular based timeline on which a mc sits (this is an mc with 5 buttons on it) and another mc called mail(with instance name mail).
The mail mc is an mc with bout 30 frames and the first frame blank and a stop(); action so that it is invisible while running the movie.
The button MC has 60 frames and at the end a stop(); action attached to it. In the 60th frame I have the 5 buttons again with some actions on it. This is where the problem lies.
I want to click a button and then it has to perform somthing like:

but it doesnt, also tried

Controlling FPS ?
Hi to all,
Lemme tell what i am wondering....
I have a one.swf with 120FPS and another two.swf with 12FPS.I am trying to load one.swf in two.swf in Level 1.
But one.swf which is originally 120FPS is running at 12FPS.
If i try doing that in the Level0 it runs at 120FPS.
Targetting in a MC runs at 12FPS.
Did anyone come across this, any solution to get out of this problem.
