Convert Various Video Formats Into Flash Movie?
I am developing an app that allows users to submit movies. I want all the submited movies to be converted into FLV and then played using some flash player. What is the best way to go about this? Is there a command line encoder for *nix systems? What's the best client for the flash movies? Need only basic controls, like play stop... It'd be cool if it was brandable too. Thanks!

Formats To Convert To Flash Video
is there a list of formats that convert well to Flash Video? I'm trying to convert an avi file to Flash video. However, when the encoder is processing the video, none of the data is being preserved (the preview window is completely white). The avi file plays properly by itself. I'm not sure if its not a good format to convert, or if the problem is with my encoder settings, or with the settings when the avi file is created (its being created from a .vob file). I don't have much of a video background (web designer) so any help is greatly appreciated.

I am working with a client who is shooting a video next week. The video will not be long at all - more like a short clip.
This clip will be going on a Flash banner as well as on a web page. What file format should I ask for from the video production company?
A colleague of mine said to ask for .avi and then convert to .flv using Flash. Should I just ask for a .flv file then from the video production company?
Also, is there a general rule of thumb on file size for video for use on the web?

the website is the place where one can upload their personal videos and share with others online.

I found that the sound and the video can sometimes be blurry. I was wondering what file size would be considered too big for a 56K modem? Also which formats are best for compatibility? What percentage of users have quicktime?

What is the preferred original video format when importing video into Flash (if any?). I am purchasing a number of videos that will eventually be imported into flash, and wondering if I should choose the .mov, .mp4, or .wmv video formats. Does one particular format integrate with Flash better than another?
The videos are fairly small, so will probably be progressively downloaded.

Hiii, i have been creating a video made by Flash 8 and exported it into format AVI. But now i want it in a Quicktime format. Its not possible for me to export directly from flash to quicktime format in Flash 8 and i cant make it a flash 5 version because of the flash 8 features im using..

im making an interactive cd with lots of video content- for the moment i have been given avi files. they are pretty poor to start with (pixelated) but even worse when i publish the exe, even though all my compression setting are the best i can get them. i have tried to get the video guy to make videos with less movement but it looks like im stuck with these.
is there a better video format that mx 2004 will accept? anyone have any magical export setting?

Video Player File Formats
Hello everyone,
I have a quick question that I couldn't get a clear answer on from the forums. I'm making a video player for a project at work. The SWF essentially is given a url from the HTML and the video starts playing. I have it all completed and it works great. I was under the impression, though, that MOV files could be played in using this method. I've found a few MOVs that cannot be played and I've found a few that will play with no sound. I gather it has something to do with video/audio compressions used in the creation of those video files.
So my question is, can someone provide/point me in the right direction for playable video types (including their sound channels) using the method I described above? I'm new to Flash and to the world of video file formats.

Problems Exporting SWFs To Video Formats
Hi Folks,
I was recently asked to export an animation I did in Flash 8 PRO on a MAC OS X to a broadcast-quality video clip. I was quite frustrated when I found the following problems:
1. I have Quick Time PRO installed on the machine. Whenever I try to export my content to a Quick Time file (NOT Quick Time video!) the MAC gives me an error message that there is a module that can not be found.
2. I tried to do everything on a PC-based Flash 8 PRO with Quick Time Pro installed. Similar problems.
3. Whenever I export my files to a format different than Quick Time all my nested MCs are not playing in the output files.
I am saying "frustrated" because once I was able to do these things on an old PC-based MX 2004 and everything was working. Why isn't it working now?
Any suggestions are welcome.

From what I've read, you have to convert the videos (.mov, .avi, .mp3) to .swf files by importing them and then calling the .swf?
Is this the only way? Can't macromedia flash call a movie like Quicktime? Would be nice.

I'm trying to decide what's the best way to do this...
The problem:
I have quite a handful of short videos (.avi) that I'd like to put on the internet. It's copy righted materials, so it's preferable that they're not cached in client's computer. My research told me that it's the job for streaming technology, and after further research it seems that flash streaming movies (.flv) are good candidates for this.
The goal:
I know there're apps out there that converts .avi to .flv, but I need to be able to automate this process for the company that I work for. I'm a programmer and I can learn actionscript if needed, but before I spend my time to do that, I need to know if it's doable or not.
The automation process should roughly look like this:
1. The program reads video list from an input file.
2. The list basically are the location of the .avi files in the hard drive.
3. In the loop, the apps will sequentially convert each of the .avi movie to the .flv format.
The questions:
1. Can I achieve my goal using actionscript?
2. If not, can any body suggest a good way to do this? the keywords here is "to automate the process", so feel free to suggest any commercial software as long as it's programmable.
I really appreciate your feedback on this.

Convert Flash To Video Problem.

I despararately need help. Can't get a clue how to export fash clip to DVD. Everything I tried doesn't work. Have been exploring the subject for about a week but no decent material on it
I made a 5min. clip, and it has 1 frame in its main timeline. Every layer has an instance, which is stopped at 1st frame, and is driven by some previous one programmatically. Every converter I've tried sees only that 1st frame, and doesn't follow the Action Script it contains. So I receive an *.avi with only one frame as a result. What can I do?
Does anybody know how it should be done properly? Please help!

I have been trying to export a movie of still photos that I created in Flash MX professional to an .avi format but all I get is a blank screen and nothing else. I have also tried to export the flash file into a quicktime (.mov) format but get the message that Quicktime does not have a handler for this type of Marcromedia flash format. I have the latest copy of Quicktime on my computer. It will export to .swf only.

The book that I have (Developing Web Sites with Macromedia Flash MX) says that if you select the Protect from Import option, people can not import a flash movie and change it to an FLA file. I have since upgraded to CS3 and am able to view the movie in CS3, however I can not add filters to this movie when I am within CS3. Convert Quicktime (.mov) File To A Flash Movie?
I have Flash CS3 that came with Adobe Creative Suite. I Never used it but can it convert a Quicktime (.mov) file to a Flash movie so I can play it on the web? If so where do I start? I also want the viewer to be able to stop and start the Flash movie. I guess I need a skin or something?
Also I'm confused about the difference between a FLV and SWF file. Which one do I need for the web?

The problem is that the video that I take it’s not the same with the swf file. Sometimes is slow some times is Fast.
I don’t have a very powerful computer, 1.6 centrino with 64Mb video Card, it’s a Laptop.
