Hi,
today I was bored so I decided to code a gallery from scratch, after a few hours of coding i got thit:

It's not very smooth or anything, nothing fancy.
For some reason I added some kind of a swap function to swap the images and reorder them the way you want them to be. However, I don't remember why I did it in the first place. Use the little handle on the left side of each picture to swap them.

Does anyone have any cool idea that would use this swapping funtion?

maybe I could use it to change the order of the pictures in the mySQL database. ( swap the pics and hit the "save" buttons ). because some of my customer always want to control the ordering of the pics at any moment.

Any idea would help.

ps: I'm gonna use PHP with this but right now the array of pics is entered in there manually.

phpArray = new Array("j1.JPG","j2.JPG","j3.JPG",...,"j12.JPG");

put your JPGs in a folder called "images" and put the thumbnails in "images/thumb"
obviously, PHP would create thumbs automatically but I'll do that tomorrow.

note: the coding is very messy, sorry about that.

Another Cool Flash Website To Steal Ideas From, But..
Okay take a look at the this website really quick - www.samsung.com/wow .

Now my first question - When you click one of the buttons on the left of the main flash interface, they get this wiping effect from right to left (loading a new swf in the process too i suppose) - How could I do that?

2nd question - How could I make the buttons on the left where they sort of have something on them, when you roll over the words disappear and the picture comes into view? I'm supposing it's a button, with a movie clip in the over frame.

Any ideas for the ole Foochuck? Send them in!

Navigation Ideas?
So I've noticed more and more that despite a good navigation design on all of these award-winning and honorable mention sites, there's a great deal of static graphics that add to the effect. For example, Ultrashock's site, obviously has got a ton of graphics surrounding the main content of the site. This whole rounded square around thier logo and advertisements etc. So I'm thinking, the big thing I'm lacking when I design anything, yeah, are those kinds of graphics. So any tips on where to start with something like this? Is the process usually make the nav, then graphics to follow, or vise versa? Borders, backgrounds, themes, all that stuff, what's your take on it?

Instead of making the original thumbnail links slide down however id just like the sub-menu to appear instead of the original on click, and hidden again on mouse out.

Navigation With Multi .swf's-need Some Ideas
i am making this project that will navigate thru these squares, that are 600x600 pixel swf's, these swfs i want to scroll across the screen, like,a moving comic, It opens with one,you click,then the original and one more are there, once you go further the original goes away, so that there are only two at any given time, the new one and the one you just clicked on to get there....You know,..like MJ's light-up sidewalk....yea,...like that...but,..moving,.I have to have .swf for loading reasons, i am just a lil frustrated and overwhelmed, and was wondering if anyone had any tips for structuring this.

Ideas On This Navigation Code
I was looking at this site and I'm presuming the navigation/site uss lots of actionscript. I'm just starting out. Can anyone break the components down into smaller bitsized bits for me ? Is it as complex as it looks ? Could you build it so it could be easily updated ?

Really Cool Navigation
Hi

I saw a really cool navigation once, it was vertical, a column, and had like 5 buttons. for instance:

BUTTON 1
BUTTON 2
BUTTON 3
BUTTON 4
BUTTON 5

now when i click, for example, "button 2"... button 3, 4, and 5 moves down, and a 'sub-menu' for button 2 opens up, like this:

BUTTON 1
BUTTON 2
=Sub-Button1
=Sub-Button2
=Sub-Button3
=Sub-Button4
BUTTON 3
BUTTON 4
BUTTON 5

Then i can click any of the 'sub-buttons', but when i click for example "button 4", the sub-menu of button 2 closes, and the sub-menu of button 4 opens up, you know what i'm saying?

Anyone have ANY examples that i can find out how to do it, or get the code for, or anything?

On mouse over the menu the background picture transition take place. I guess there are three pictures, and they are doing it with the Action script.

Arrow Follows Navigation On Rollover Any Ideas?
Hi all, I am after an effect I have seen somewhere before, but cannot remember the link. What I am after is a simple navigation like the image I have included, where my arrow only appears when you hover over the buttons, Simple enough to do right. But then I would like the arrow to move from left to right for each button. So if I was to hover over contact us, the button would move with the mouse when it hits that area, but I would require the arrow to be constrained within a desired area. And only move on the hrizontal pane.

I hope all this makes sense, can anyone help me understand how this can be achieved, or equally direct me to a tutorial of some sorts.

Cool 3D Navigation On Triumph.com

Was surfing the other day and came across a really cool 3D navigation on www.triumph.com (yepp... the womens underwear - girlfriends birthday ).

For some reason The 3D menu isn't shown on all sites (cuntries) so if you choose "Denmark" and click the box on the bottom left "Undertøj" and then click the top link "Nyheder" you should see the navigation.

Now my Q is obviesly... how do ya make a cool thing like that. Any hints, tuts or even better suggestions is appreciatet.

CS3 Cool Cube Navigation , How Is It Done ?
Hi All ...anyone have any idea how Adobe created the cool CS3 cube nav

i have been searching the web for days now searching for some help
& all iam finding is , extension's & totally 100 % driven AS2

iam figuring, that it was created with Photoshop's 3D engine & then frame by frame animation or with behaviors ?

because there are 2 ways of seeing this

when you rollover the cube, the cube rotates 2 increments, 2 frames iam guessing
this can be done with an invisible button surrounding the cube , or a behavior

Cool Navigation I Made. Now How Can I Do This With AS?

Could someone tell me how i could accomplish this same kind of navigation, but with mostly AS. Right now I use a bunch of tweens a duplicate mc's, and as a result i can't really do much with it... its hard to explain, but the way I have it set up now all 4 squares have to be the same color, if i want to change something it takes a while... and there are some other problems.

Im thinking there's a much better way to do this. Could an experienced flasher help me out? Would be much appreciated. I got some great ideas of how I am gonna use this nav, but i want to redo it and make it simple and efficient before I procede.

The code below will resize an MC, but how do i get the bounce effect, and make the other 3 MC's still to the corner like in the nav I made.

Cool Navigation System
Hey,

I am looking to try and create a navigation similar to what is shown here:

I hope to have it the same pretty much except with drag and drop interaction instead of clicking on the images. I have the drag and drop working fine, but what I am wondering is how they get the images to load when the user is getting close to them , and how to make the images move forward, as I take it this is done with actionscript.

Create This Cool Navigation
Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how the navigation on this site is done:

In this portfolio section, each square or thumbnail is a button with a rollover. The navigation here scrolls slowly right on mouseover and then speeds up or changes direction according to how you move the mouse.

Cool Site Navigation..how Does It Work?

I saw this awesome site with cool navigation and each time the page refreshes, the background image changes the same as in the flash file:

Any ideas how this is achieved? Just need to be pointed in the right direction. I am assuming the flash file calls a javacscript in the HTML and it reloads the background accordingly but just wanted to share info.

Help With An Ultra-cool Navigation Concept
hey y'all,

working on a project which i need a bit of assistance on; if this can't be done then i'll take a simpler approach, but this would be way sweeter. download the fla and take a look.

scrolling clothesline (saved as Flash 7)

i'd like to let the user be able to scroll through the thumbnail 'filmstrip' clips, in much the same way as you see in the example, only i'd like to modify it to do the following but am not sure how to script this:

- have the clips align to and follow along the clothesline as they currently do, as well as let the user scroll through them
- have the clips scle from smaller (about 90% smaller than they are now) to 100%, from left to right
- let the user grab the laundry clothesline wheel to the right, and manually scroll through the clips by turning it counter-clockwise (at this point the auto scrolling script would be disabled, and re-enabled when the user rolls out of the wheel's hit state area

Cool Menu, Bad Actionscript. Need To Fix Navigation Please Help
Hi I am having a lot of trouble with a cool looking menu component that I have. It has a bounce animation which is nice, however, each time I try and add script to make the buttons navigate to another URL the animation stops working.

I have tried using:
_root.movieClipName.onPress=function(){ //since it is a button it will continue to play (or do anything you want if you put the code in here)

in the frame actions but with no luck, i have also tried onclipevent(mousedown) but all that does is open every linked button on the page at the same time!.

I need the help of someone with more Actionscript knowledge then I have!!

Really Cool Image Navigation Anyone Know How It Works?
there is no absolute url, but it is pretty easy to find.

1. go to www.colorsmagazine.com
2. click on archives at the top
3. click on number issue#54 titled "Food"
4. then click on the magazine cover that will appear on the right to bring up that issue's flash site.. you will see what I'm talking about, it is the only element on the page.

How does it work? There is a small square on the left, where you can drag a square to a point of interest on an image, and the image, which takes up the rest of the space follows along.

also, click on the milk dripping from his mouth to activate the other menu.

I've been searching endlessly for ways to actually make the buttons float a bit once you've clicked on one, then have a new movie load - depending on which bit of text you've selected. I believe the solution lies in adding variables to the array string, but exactly how to go from there I've not a clue!

CuePoint Navigation Vs. CueSegment Navigation
Having problems throwing up a talking head slide show in MX2004 Pro.

1) The slider works going forwards, but not going backwards
2) The buttons seeking slides work going forward, but not going backwards

After talking with tech support, it seems the problem is with how they set up CuePoint navigation. Basically, a single time point = cue point triggers an event, which is a slide change. This is triggered from left to right in time, but not going the other way.

A slide show requires a different action script; however. It is not cue points that are linked with slides, but SEGMENTS in time are linked with STATES that correspond with a certain slide being in place.

Is there an action script expert out there who could help me program this into a slider that really works, going backwards and forwards?

If that is too ambitious, how can I subtract 300 milliseconds from q.time?

This will at least, hopefully, make the slide buttons work, since they will seek to a time point slightly before the actual cue point.

I imported a quicktime movie, added some scrolling text and then tried to publish as a quicktime movie again. When the pulish finishes, an error comes up and says "the installed version of quictime does not have a handler for this type of Macromedia Flash movie"

Possible Bug In MX? Any Ideas?
I think I have come across a bug in Flash MX. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm trying to publish a Flash movie as an .exe file, so I can show it on a PC (I'm working on a Mac)
I have done this successfully before in Flash 5, and have followed the same steps in MX, but come across this issue:

1. publish movie as .exe file.
2. transfer .exe file to PC (via zip disk)
3. when try to open .exe file on PC, it reads it as a text file not as a Projector file.

Any ideas anyone?
I don't want to be back saving to Flash 5, then opening the file in Flash 5 just to do this one task!!!!!
