Copying And Pasting Frame Images With Locations ?



Hi all,

Quick question ... When you copy and paste an image, symbol, etc is it possible to copy its x and y location values rather than having to type them in again each time ?

Hello,

does anyone no of a way that if a button is pressed flash replicates ctrl + C? for example a variable is generated for use in a text box, when a button is clicked it saves the text into clipboard for use in notepad etc?

Copying And Pasting From Flash To IE
When ever I try to copy anything from a dynamic or input textbox into Inernet explorer, it just doesn't copy it. I tried CTRL + C and Right click -- copy, but both don't work.

I know that there is nothing wrong with my Clip Board, as I have tried copying from anywhere else, and it worked.

Why does this happen? I am using Flash MX.
Also.. Is there any way to use actionscript in order to copy text (from an input or dynamic textbox) into the clipboard?

Help Copying And Pasting Pics
I just got flash mx and I'm trying to work with sprites and backgrounds and I'm having some trouble copying and pasting pictures. Whenever I paste something it gets shrunk down a bit, and gets turned vertically. Along with that I have to remove the smoothing out option. Are there any ways I can automaticially have those things turned off? Also, is there a way where I can make a specific color act as if is clear (for example if I chose white to act like this all white in that object will be transparent)? Thanks in advance for the help.

When copying and pasting an image either from or to Flash and a graphics editor, the size is always off. Is there a setting somewhere that I need to adjust?

Copying And Pasting Within Flash
I've made an animation in flash, but I now need to move it to another flash document. I didn't make it a movie clip to begin with, I can't figure out how to convert this animation into a clip whilst retaining the layers. What the best way of doing this? Once I do this I can copy it into the other document. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Copying And Pasting From Fireworks
Has anyone else noticed the copy and paste functionality has changed between Fireworks and Flash in the CS3 versions? Before I used to be able to simply CTRL+C out of Fireworks and CTRL+V onto the Flash stage and the graphic would retain it's original size and any effect such as a drop shadow (as long as the canvass in Fireworks was transparent). In the CS3 versions the same action results in a graphic 75% the original size and missing the effects layer (drop shadow). I have experimented with all of the "Paste Special" options, selecting flattened bitmap and "PNG with retained layers" but I can't get the pasted graphic to arrive on the Flash stage in it's original state.

To test this, try drawing a vector square in Fireworks 100 x 100 pixels, select, then copy and paste into Flash - the result is a symbol 75 x 75 pixels. How should I be using the copy and paste functions to get EXACTLY the graphic I need with drop shadow?

Copying And Pasting Actionscript Within Flash
ok one thing i have not been able to figure out in flash 5 and MX is how come you cannot copy and paste entire sections of actions script in one move.Seems at least I am only able to copy small sections and a time..why is this and is there a solution for copying lots of actionscript say from one button to another....took me ages for my last project cause of this.....

Hi I was wondering. If I copy an image say with the lasso or something to that effect and paste it into Flash (Lets say its a sphere im copying) Then I get this white box all around the sphere like i selected a box and copied it. How do I get it to only copy and paste what I selected?

Copying Frames And Pasting To New Movie
Does anyone know the best way to copy frames from one movie and past them into a new movie. I have been rebuilding my site and i want to keep some of the old movies. When I copy the frames and paste them to the new movie it does not center them on the new page. If i try to move the movie it messes up all of tweans. Is there any way to movie the pictuers and text without messing up the tweans?

Copying-pasting Text Into Flash?
Is there no way to copy and paste text into flash? It always shows up as gobbldie-goop when I past it (and it even takes a few minutes to actually paste the goop!). I'm redesigning a site that is text-intensive into flash and would *rather* not type everything out ... Are there any plugins to help with this if there's no way to do it with Flash as we know it? Copying And Pasting Button, Modifying One Modifies All, UGH..
Ok, another question. I created a button called "HOME". Now, when I create the next button (which should look like the HOME button but with different text), I copy the button (using mouse rectangle select the button), and and paste it. I right-click the new button, modify the properties (change the text to "ABOUT" on all 4 instances, up, over, down, hit) and return to the main timeline.

As you experienced folks guessed, the text on the OLD button was changed just like the new button. Ok, what gives...

Wow, this is really driving me up the wall. I'm new to Flash, and no matter what I do it seems whenever I want to copy and paste or duplicate something it never just leaves the original alone. It creates an instance so i cant edit one independently from the other. How can i just simply easily copy and paste a symbol movie clip ect. and have it be completely independent from the original?
I figure there must be an easy way to do this?

since the title of this thread says pretty much everything, i was wondering if anyone knew if it was even possible to do something like this. i am building a text editor here and i basically need the standard copy/paste thing to work the way it should. right now, if you format some text and try to copy/paste it, it goes to the format of the last character.

Editing Graphic Symbols By Copying And Pasting To Make Slightly Dif Symbols
Hi!

I am using flash to create moving people symbols. I created a "singular person" symbol and saved it, I then copyed a few to make a "bunch of people" symbol, when I go to edit these copyed and pasted symbols each saved symbol changes. Also I am saving them as graphic symbols at the moment.

Positioning Images At Random Locations
hi all,

i've been working for the past two days on this project and i'm completely confused what is wrong. what i want to do is to have a set of pictures (drwan from an xml file) to be posted at random loactions around the content area. i'm using attachMovie() method to attach a template form and then assign picture that is to be displayed and the text.

first problem, going through the for loop to post each picture, it waits until everything is done, then puts everything at once. I would want it to post pictures as it goes along. and if i increase the number of pictures to 30 (the maximum) it complains that the loop is somehow infinite and goes nuts flashing all the clips.

second problem, i want to have a mouse over effect that enlarges the picture by a small amount and shows text. i tried masking the text and unmasking it, but when i mask, when I assign a .text value, it wouldn't show it.

third problem, i can't for the life of me get the pictures to show up. I tried a loader component, no luck. i tried loadMovie(), no luck. i'm stuck!

this may seem like a very insignificant question but its really bugging me
ive just started using flash and when i try to past individual images(sprites) from paint into flash it always leaves a white border around it can anyone tell me how to get rid of it and have a transparent background?

Copy And Pasting Images Around A Point
I've done a search on the forum and I didn't to find anything on this.

Is there a way to copy and paste the vector images I've created around a point to create a pattern?

An example would be drawing a sun (the kid's version). I drew the circle as the sun, and after drawing a single ray I would like to copy and paste that ray around the sun at a specific angle. Is that possible in Flash?

I am trying to copy an outline/text image from Photoshop, but Flash keeps filling in the transparent spaces with white. How can I avoid this?

Problems With Copying Images Between Movie Clips
What I am trying to do is:
1) load all the images off stage
2) copy the first image into a main image movie clip
3) replace image in main movie clip by image corresponding to user selection

Right now, nothing is showing up in the mainImage MovieClip - but I don't know if it is because I am using BitMapData incorrectly or if I am not storing / referencing the MovieClips correctly in imageMovieClipArray.

DuplicateMovieClip Not Copying Functions Until One Frame Passed?
I'm duplicating a component that contains an initiation script. I am trying to run the init script in the same routine that duplicates the component. But, the functions contained in the component don't seem to exist until after one frame has run. I tried using #initclip to make the function available at runtime but it breaks the component because it needs the data from the component definitions. I can make something that waits for a frame to pass before initiating but that seems pretty cheesy. Any ideas for a solution?

XML And _x _y Locations
Hi,

looking around for a tutorial or example of a flash doc that grabs _x and _y locations for clips from an xml file.

I'd like to create a map that has dots for location information that are placed on the map and the locations are updated via xml, or xml tied to a SQL DB.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Movie Locations
Ok, I need to know where the MC are located on this site, but specific ones, because I cant seem to find them.

I need to find a movie clip that shows text that almost looks like its being typed, and I also need the moive clip where I can have a movie clip follow a guide line and looks like its fading @ the end.

I'm really new to incorporating php with my Flash, so this may be a very simple problem. I'm making a mini blog for a Flash site and it works as long as the dynamic text box is sitting on the main timeline and this code is in the main timeline as well:

Loading Xml Into Its Locations Help.
Hi Flashkit users,

Im trying to figure out how to get my xml in its locations as maped in the jpg below. Ive read alot about xml and actionscripting but Im just not positive how to get it in its locations.
Do I load it in a text field on the layout? Were do i give the actions to do so. Maybe you all can help me out with a hint to do my further research.

Im a graphic artist and code isnt my specialty. Any help would be really apreciated.

Variable Locations
Hello,

Where is the optimal place to declare variables inside an FLA? Top, bottom? My understanding is that actions are read top to bottom, so it would make sense that variables should first be declared up top - that being said, I've come across the opposite in an actionscript book.

Any insight would be appriciated.

Scene Locations ?
a follow up from a thread down the page....

Ok, I have 11 scenes in my movie (can't get it down any more)
all in numerical order down the window.

I'm in scene 2, I click on a button to go to scene 1, I get a quick, sharp change of scene( the way I want it)

Still in scene 2, I click on a button to go to scene 5, slightly slower change of scene but still acceptable.

still in scene 2, i click on a button to go scene 11, very slow change over, about 1.5 second wait before it changes scenes, not good enough..

I now move scene 2 down the order in the table to in between scene 9 and 10.

I click on a button to go to scene 11 again and I get a very quick, as expected scene change.

I now click on to go to scene 1 to see the response, and yes you guessed it 1.5 second delay before it responds..

QUESTION??
why does the location of each scene in the table affect the way it responds to actions???

have I still got to many scenes at 11???

how do I fix it??

i have an object which is within 2 movie clips, first one and then another , and then my object, now i want to know what the real x and y positions of it is, not the locations realtive to the movieclip it is inside.

Using The Same Clip Over Again In Different Locations
I have a multi-layer clip (guy running) that I want to use over and over again so as to appear as if a crowd is running.  It will not let me use that clip in differnt locations - they just piggyback on each other.

Object Locations
Hi all,

I am new to Flash 8 and am running into a problem that shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but is occuring anyway.

While building my presentation I am using x and y coords for objects on the stage.  When I use the same coords on a second slide with the same object, the object does not possition in the same location.  Am I miss something?

I've got around hundreds of buttons laid out around the page - each one with a on rollover command to call a movie - How do I get the movie to appear over the top of the button without having to set the x and y for each seperate movie - how do I code the movie to appear in the same position as the button?

Accessing Symbol Locations
I really hope the answer to this is so simple I can't believe it. Being new to Flash and yet a hard-core developer in other respoects, I already have all the code set up to do what I need based on my understanding of how this thing works - but that's where my problem is. I have creating various items in my flash movie and have created symbols out of each so I can dynamically set their locations. However, through the trace() function I have determined that I must be looking at the wrong symbol properties because _y is zero for every one of them no matter where I locate it on the screen. Anyone out there got a quick and easy answer for taking a rectangle and moving it around? That will solve all my probs! (at least until the next one) :->

Linking To Locations On Interactive Map
I am creating an interactive map of an area of London which a user can zoom in/out and around if needed
with a number of different loactions - my AS skills are pretty limited to labels and targeting MClips
I need to link from various pages in the site to specific locations on this map (not sure yet if the map is going to be embeded on each page or pop up in a new window )

Why Do The X And Y Locations Of Objects Change?
Am I doing something wrong?
I have a few near identical flash files that I wanted to add some navigation to.

I designed the nav buttons in one of the files thinking I could just cut and paste the frames into the other files and they would land in the same spot.

they do - in terms of their X and Y locations but for some reason the X and Y locations in my flash files do not stay put. i.e the top left corner of my file should (im my mind) always be X00,Y00.

This is true when You use the info panel to tell you where your mouse pointer is - but in the properties box the X,Y location of an instance does not match up.

i.e I put an instance in the very top left hand corner of the file and it location reads as X-379,Y-291. This instance has the same X,Y location in a near identical file and yet by looking at it you can see that physically it is not in the same place.

IM SO FRUSTRATED AND A LITTLE BIT AWARE THAT THIS THREAD IS DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW. I JUST HOPE THAT SOMEONE WHO CAN EXPLAIN THINGS BETTER THAN ME HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND UNDERSTANDS.

Im going to go and cry for a bit.

Log And Display User Locations?

I'm wondering if there is a way to easily log user locations (if not define them manually myself) and then display them on a flat map projection? Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure how to define areas on the map and then associate the data with them. thanks!

Image X/y Locations Changing
Hi guys.

Ive run in to a little problem with flash when using images over other images. Im trying to place a cropped part of an image over a non cropped part of exactly the same image. The problem is, in flash the images appear to be correctly aligned, but when the swf is produced the itop image will be in a slightly different position.

Kind of hard to explain without visual aids so ive uploaded the file here:

(im refering to the persons outline on top of the background).

Now i was thinking of making the persons cutout a .gif with transparency, so even if the position changes, in the background it wont be noticeable.. but with a shadow behind it (which id like to keep) and with other parts of the site having the same problem (that need the colour depth of jpg) this may not be a viable option for all of them.

Im just wondering if theirs a way to overcome this problem so that the swf file exports the same as what i see in the .fla file.
Ps. Ive already tried changing the x, y co-ordinates to whole numbers.

How Do I Define Different Load Locations
I have a file which loads a combination of jpg's and swfs and they get there loaction from a loactionArray. once loaded they trigger the doEase function which slide them to a new location. The problem is when they slide into place they all slide to the same location since the location is defined in the doEase function. How can I specify different locations for the different loaded mc's?

Ip Address And Geographical Locations
Hi,

I'm looking for some help on how to go about getting flash to read the IP address of the computer playing the movie and finding out how to convert that into geographical data (what country)

Would anybody know of a decent tutorial or example or what classes are available in flash for doing this?

Dynamic Map For Member Locations
i am looking at creating a map for a forum i moderate. I would like to be able to pull the city/state from mysql and place a dot on a map and also pull the persons username from mysql and list usernames on a popup when a dot is scrolled over.

I plan on using php for retriving tha data what i am trying to figure out how to do is create the points on the map dynamically in the correct location. i know i could create x/y locations for certian cities but there are thousands of possibilities for cities.
does anyone have any good ideas on how i could go about creating points on a map reguardless of the city/state it is pulling from mysql?
