Creating Graphics Or Finding Them...
I haven't been using flash for a couple of years, but now I need to again. For an intro I need to find a way to show islands in the middle of the ocean with people on them. I am wondering if I am going to have to create that graphic/animation on my own or if there is a site or program I can use that will make it easier to create that...I am terrible at drawing, especially on a computer. Is there something out there that will make it easier?

i am getting to grips with using flash (i got flash 5 btw) and i am basically finding it hard to get the graphics for my flash to look good enough? Finding Graphics In An FLA File
Okay, So this is a strange question. I am ion the process of updating graphics for 1000's of fla files. What I want to know is, does anyone have any idea on a effetive way to say: search all fla or swf files and find all files that contain a specific graphic?
Any ideas would be great.

Hello everyone, my name is Jei (Jay) and I'm somewhat new to Flash.
I was wondering what the majority of Flash designers do for creating graphics...Do you use another program such as Photoshop, Freehand or something else to create your graphics then import them into Flash?
Or
Do you simply create almost everything you can in Flash?
If you do the latter then where can I find some tutorials on creating different type of graphics (like a car, or glass button) in Flash?

Problems Finding/creating Sound Effects For Intro...
Hi, I have been using Flash for quite some time now and have no problem adding background music to my Flash animations. However, I am having problems with finding/creating my own sound effects to match my animations.
What is the best program for creating these short sound effects or where is the best place to find them. Just looking for the norm. I have found a few places, but most of them just sound way too spacey if you know what I mean.

Normal sound effects, entries/exits, sliding doors, etc. whooshing and swishing sounds I guess.

HELP Creating Shapes (graphics) From Sound
hi everyone,
i am trying to create shapes or forms from sound.i would prefer to work in flash but i dont mind using any other software that u might suggest. i have found a way to convert sound (.wav files) in text data sheets which contain a series of numbers representing peaks of the sound sequence. now i am trying to find a way to convert those values in dimensions which will generate the shapes.perhaps by importing or using the date sheet as part of a script which will then draw the shapes. can anyone help please?

Creating Vector Graphics Within Square
I'm confused about vector graphics in Flash and how they display.
Is it possible to make the stage 500px, for example, and then have a square in the middle 300px wide and then within that square to have vector graphics appearing on the left of the sqare and then disappearing on the right side?
My problem is the vector graphic disregards the sqare as a boundary and I don't know how to make a vector graphic recognize the square as a boundary.

Hi, i am doing a task for a uni assignment, desperatly need some help!! i have to Produce a movie that demonstrates run-time creation of graphics, using methods like lineTo() and methods such as duplicateMovieClip. In addition a couple of the variables, which influence the effect created, should be available for user interaction, along with the means to rerun the movie to show the effect of change in these values.
Covering:
Use of methods such as duplicateMovieClip
Use of the graphics API methods
Use of looping control structures
SetInterval to control drawing speed
Creation of appropriate user controls
I am having trouble with looping, i can loop the graphics to get them to display, but i need to use setInterval() to be able to control the speed at which each graphic is created and attached, and this speed to be adjusted using one of the sliders i have created.
I also want to be able to clear the movie everytime te play button is pressed, because at the moment the movies are just laying one on top of the other, not wiping clean!!
can someone please help me!!!?? i've been working on it for ages and i am really struggling!! PLEASE HELP!!! i got to hand it in on monday!!

Creating Graphics Through ActionScript (Newbie)
I have FlashVars putting a variable with the text "hello world" into my flash movie at the moment, i know how to use a simple textfield to have this displayed, what i want to do is slightly different.
first of all, i want ActionScript to create a static text box
then i want AS to write the text "hello world" into that static text box
then i want the colour of the text set to #666666
then i want the static text box to be converted into a symbol (a button) of the same name as the variable at the start.
then i want to go into that button, create the other three keyframes and have the text display different colours for each of the keyframes, and to have a white box appear behind the text on the 3rd (down) keyframe.
how would i go about doing this?

Need Some Help Finding A FLA
Hi guys i need some help finding a fla that i dl off the movies ection an deleted We have all done it so don't deni it . Anyways the fla showed how to get user stats for there system. OS type screen res soundeconnection ect. Did anyone else dl it and if so can they tell me the name of the file so that i can go get it again. I have tried serchi9ng the movies section but with no luck so this is my last resort before i go off to bed tonight.

Help With Finding A URL

I really need some help with a little problem i have.
I am dymanically loading jpg's into my flash movie using

_root["object"+i].holder.loadMovie(_root.whichImage)
(_root.whichImage is a varriable set to the URL of the image which comes from an XML file.)
The problem is the images get loaded into the movie clips and then randomise on screen so i dont know which movie is holding the image
I need a way of finding out what the URL of the image is. i would imagine i need to do something along the lines of
_root["object"+i].holder._url (?)
hope that makes sense and someone can offer advise

Finding A Bug
I have a difficult one:
I have a main movie, which loads another childmovie.
In that movie I have a button, whoch reacts on the "v"-key through a add.listener.
Works fine, on my pc (win2000), stand alone, in a browser, on the web, same on my test pc (win98).
However, on one of the pc's (it is a network pc, mine are not, so this one connects to the internet through a server) I need it to work perfectly every now and then something goes wrong. It has the latest player installed, it's a win98 old pc. What happens is that the background image of the child swf (and also the backgroundcolour of the child swf which normally is never shown) dissapears, the rest of the child swf is still working, but the whole thing becomes transparent so you see the child swf and the main swf behind it.
Where should I look to find out what is wrong?

Anyone know if their is a specific way to find the Max x/y of a movie clip? (Something like ._maxy or something? Or any other quick ways of finding it?)

i have created this fields in a loop as you can see, i have set their _y pos to 20*i to make them fall undeneath one another now what i want to is set they _x and _y pos again to set them in the middle of the stage but i dont know how to do that because the fields are already set to 20*i does that make any sences its late sorry. Please help.....

Finding The Url?
Hi guys
Is there a way that flash can check the current url it is on?
i want to check the full url....so for example if the flash file is located on thses pages:
"http://www.hello.com/tester.html" or "http://www.bye.com/yes.html" .
I want to run some code depending on the site.
So all i want to do is return the complete url into a string in to flash so i can work with the url as i need to split the string string up. because i want to split it so it says hello.com or bye.com?
Any ideas? im comfortable with working with the string part of things just need to get the url into flash?

need help finding a conversion app
i'm looking for an app i believe exists (J.Davis mentions it, but I'm having a very hard time to track down) that will allow me to take an swf file that is dynamically created and dump the contents to some editable vector format...eps...ai.
ie..you could create a series of random dots using actionscript, then export the final image to an editable vector format.
director allows the creation of rasterized actionscript sequences from flash, but unfortunately I need the output to be scaleable...
anyone have ideas...leads?

Finding Mc Into A Mc
Hello,
I'm Scanning each frames of a movieclip, and I'm wondering how should I know that into a given frame there is another Movieclip
I mean into a Movie clip with 11 frames, at frame 2 there is a MoviClip into it nammed mc2.
how should i get that at MymovieClip.currentLabel (if currentlabel is frame 2) there is another movieclip nammed mc2 in this same frame ?
Finding X&Y Of A .swf?
Hi,
I feel silly asking this, but how would I go about finding the width and height of a .swf?
I have many .swf files that I want to display in my portfolio, but I do not remember the original document size... I need to know in order for me to embed within the html page.
I know I could go back to the original .fla for all my swf files and look, but that would be a lot of work...
Any suggestions? Maybe this is really easy, and I am just plain stupid...
I wonder why the flash player does not have a "get properties" menu item/selection....

Finding Absolute X And Y
i have a MC which is called 'blast', within it i have another MC called 'shell'. How 'blast' works is two keyframes and frame 1 contains the following code:
setProperty ("shell", _y, shell._y - 10);
every time blast MC loops back to its frame 1 it will alter the y position by minus 10. This works well and projects the 'shell' forward or up. in my movie i have the 'blast' MC rotate so that if it is rotated 45 degrees then it will shoot the shell forward at a 45 degree angle. This also works well.
The problem is when i try to find out the x and y position of the 'shell' i am using the following:
xshell = shell._x;
yshell = shell._y;
This returns with values for x and y, but they are the x and y position relative to the centre point of the 'blast' MC (in which 'shell' is within) and when blast is rotated the x and y of the 'shell' on the screen is different to these. Can anybody tell me how you find the x and y positions of 'shell' on the actual screen.

Is there a function in Flash that does inverse tan? I can't seem to find one.
Trig function to find theta angle:
tan(theta) = opposite/adjacent
I need an inverse tan fuction so I can do this:
theta = (inverse tan)(opposite/adjacent)

I working on an old project developed by someone long gone in my company. it has three layers top on called level0, second one called level5 and a third one below that, I can't find what the lovel level is and it's limiting me referencing things in it and from it, is there any way I can trace a level?

Finding X And Y Coordinates
Hey FlashKit Board! Im attempting to design a creative tutorial, for loading Items X,Y, and Z onto pallete A. BUT, I need X,Y and Z to be placed onto A in a certain fashion (due to space and layout) and for it to check to see if its been placed in its "proper" position. Think of putting a "puzzle" together with its pieces (with only certain pieces fitting in their respective places). What kind of code would i need to generate to deliver these kind of results. I know ill need the drag-drop function, some if thens, and setting x and y coordinates. truth be told, Im not even sure as to where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've included a menu component into my movie. How come when I use the Actions drop-down there is very little code, yet when I use the debugger I can see all sorts of code and lots of items in the drop down box? Is this code that I am not allowed to change because it's a component??

Finding Co-ordinates
Hello all,
I'm trying to make a trail of smoke clouds clips come out the back of a rocketship clip that follows the mouse around (the rocket rotates to point towards the mouse cursor and it has inertia etc.).
When I duplicate a smoke clip I want to set its x & y property relative to the back of my rocket clip, whichever way its pointing or wherever it is on the screen.
I've tried creating a small clip inside my rocket clip, at the back, and referencing the _x and _y of this clip when setting the duplicated cloud clip's properties. But it doesn't work!
Does anyone know how I can find the absolute coordinates of this clip inside the rocket clip or is there a different way I should be doing this. Hope this all makes sense, I'm really stuck and would appreciate any suggestions.

hi, this is probably a fairly noobie question but i'm struggling...
i've created a little programme on our internal network for people to access a group of files nice and easily ( basically a huge bunch of pdf files that are all over the place and need to stay in their respective cubby holes in the system.
I just need to know how to use a button to get the pdf files from the system - i think it may have something to do with a call function but i'm not sure

Finding Get URL Command
I really have looked here on flash kit but I dont see what I need. I simply want to know how to get to the actions window so I can add the get URL command. I have tried to find the modify>instance, but I dont see it. Finding Variable Name
I have been pulling in data from a text file and converting it to an array. I know what the variable name is so it is hard coded into the script (myArray), If i did not know what this was, how could i do the same as I have done here.
The format of the variables in the file will be exactly the same &myArray=1:2:3:7& , but the variable will change, and therefore the name of the array. I want to read what the variable name is and use that as the array name.

I want to use some generic code on a series of custom buttons, and ideally want the button to set a variable when it is clicked based on its "instance name"
e.g.
instances as follows...all "buttons" but with Flash MX instance names set to
button1,button2,button3
all need to set this variable
_root.buttonchosen
Therefore, coding inside all buttons should
be something like this...
on (press){
_root.buttonchosen=this;
}
I've tried the above, but "this" doesnt seem to work, it just returns the text "level" into _root.buttonchosen, not "button2" for example, which is what I need it to do!
I'm sure there must be a way of doing it as it seems logically possible, especially for games apps where multiple items are duplicated - I've looked through the flash commands but havent found anything appropriate!
Can anyone help me?

Hey, I'm having trouble finding the first day of a given month.
The big problem I'm having, is that (inside my function), when I set the year and month to the desired values, calling a .getDate(); function just reads local time.
I'm guessing that I'm going to have to come at it from a completely different direction, so any ideas would be great.
Heres my code:

Finding Names
I have been working with customizing a template for three weeks now and I am so frustrated. Please help me understand this action in the flash movie-
gotoAndPlay("p"+_root.pa);
How can I find what "p" and pa are?
I think they are probably instance names, or frame names. They don't come up in the movie explorer.

I've an array of integer value for example
arrVal = Array(1002,1005,3000,600,50000,5500....thousands of numbers);
and the selectedVal receive as input is input = 900
when the selectedVal is pass to the function,the function must return the value = 1002 if we search it from the example array (above) to get the nearest value..
i already wrote a function using for loops and i think its not efficient when the array is large
does anyone has such function or idea to share?

I've been really looking and wondering about this. I'm not totally sure it's even possible. Here is what I want to do: When my movieclip comes within a certain distance of any instance of another movieclip, it will perform an action, such as moving to another frame as a starter. I have no idea how to get it to know when it is within a distance of any instance of a movieclip, only how to get it to know when it is within a distance of a specific instance.
