Temporary Internet Files
I've got a pretty big site (800 KB), and I update it frequently. The problem is, I have to delete my temp. internet files to see the updates. I want to find a way where this isnt necessary, because my viewers won't know to delete the files, and will think there is no update. Can anyone help me out with that? Thanks!

If (swf Is In Temporary Internet Files){
I am looking for a way to check if movies have previously been downloaded and are sitting in the temporary internet files. Thanks in advance for any help.

SWF In Temporary Internet Files
Does anyone know if it is possible to not have a swf save locally in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Basically, I have a swf within a HTML page that is password protected (asp.net). This page will be accessed on potential clients computers by our sales team. I do not want the client to be able to go to the Temporary Internet Files folder after the demo is finished and access the swf.

Temporary Internet Files
I am asking this question again as I was not able to find the solution... can anyone please let me know how to secure the web data.... I don't want my web data to be saved in the temporary internet files on end user's computer. Say some swf files or pictures.
Thanks

Temporary Internet Files
My website it 100% flash. my problem is, sometimes when I load my web page, it will load older versions of movies I have updated. is there any way to make the browser, or the movie check for new versions of the movie, rather than loading movies stored in temporary internet files? or do I have to start tagging my movie names: "Index-v-a0001.swf" , "Home-v-b0001.swf" ???

It would be great if I could make the browser check for newer (updated) movies. anyone have any idea's?

Loading Into Temporary Internet Files
I was looking at a decent website the other day and it it took about a minute to load and then had another look a few days later and found that it was loaded already. So it had downloaded the swf onto my machine, and sure enough i found it in temporary internet files. How is this achieved? I've never seen any other site to this with a flash movie.

Temporary Internet Files (Vista)
Where are the Temporary Internet Files in Vista.

I've been updating flash files on the web but my browsers keep loading the
original files (same file names)

In Win XP Almost everything browsed on the web was downloaded to
C:Documents & SettingsUserLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files

But I cant find the Vista equivalent. If I look in the Temporay Internet
Files folder that is accessed through Vista's Internet Options panel, all I
find is cookies. If I use the Delete Temporary Files button in Vista it
doesn't seem to change anything.

I just keep getting the original Flash in the browser. Where is the web
content downloaded to?

Temporary Internet Files Creating Problem
Hi,

Temporary internet files are being a problem for me. Whenever I change something in the flash and publish it again, if I go to web server and run the file, it does not take the new version but still gives me the old version. In order to correct this I have to to to internet options in the control panel and delete temporary files so that when I type in the url it will get the file from the server instead of the cache. However as you can imagine this is not feasible. Is there a way to correct this or put in a script so that it will always get the page from the server even if it is already stored in the cache?? Thank you.

Temporary Internet Files Flash Update...
ok bit of a noob problem im sure everybody knows how to deal with... except me...

I create a flash element...

I go to the site where the flash element is stored...

I update the flash element...

when i go to the site where the flash element is stored the flash element saves time by loading the old element from my temporary internet files.

The average Joe does not clean out his internet files every visit so how is it I get a users computer to realise there has been a slight change to the flash, and know that it needs to re-download the file, rather than playing an older version stored in the temps.

Flash Access To Temporary Internet Files?
Is there anyway to make flash look at the temp internet files.

I have a program that is photo heavy, actually a slide show and it pulls jpegs at 50k per photo.

However it also pulls a lot of bandwith, no matter how many times you flip thru the photos, it gets a fresh copy from the server. It would be great to tell flash to look at temp inet before going to the web, the same way explorer and netscape does.

If there is no way to get flash to look at temp inet files, is there a way to preload the pix like in javascript when the rollovers are sometimes preloaded so they are ready when you rollover.

If flash could preload, and remember where it put the photos, it could then access the previously loaded pix and no need to access the web every time.

Does anyone know how to do this?

You will be a life saver (I mean bandwidth saver) and my host will forever be in your debt.

How To Load A Flash Movie - Without In Temporary Internet Files?
When you start the browser, and type an address
for example http://www.mysite.com , it stores it in the Temporary
Intenet Files on the computer. How to avoid copying for example the flash file from the server to the Temporary Internet Files' Folder on the computer ?

That's for protecting any site ! Very interesting if you
ask me.

I'll appreciate anyone who has an idea how to solve this
problem.

Thanks!!!

Remove .SWF From Temporary Internet Files Upon Browser Exit
INTENTION: I would like to use Flash for my main navigation, as opposed to using CSS, pixel-based images and templates/library items in Dreamweaver. 1) Vector based images look great and can be transformed to any size without losing quality and 2) it would make it easier if update the entire site if all I had to do was replace/override one file as opposed to making a change to a template/library item, which would then require me to re-upload every page that utilized that template/library item.

PROBLEM: SWF files are typically stored and save locally to a user's temporary internet files. If a SWF is updated/replaced without renaming and the user re-visits the site, because the SWF may already be saved to temporary internet files, he/she may not be seeing the most up-to-date version. So my question: is there a way to remove a particular SWF or all SWFs on a page automatically once a user closes out his/her browser or navigates away from the page?

How To Prevent SWFs In Temporary Internet Files : I Saw This Happen
Hi All,

Can we prevent the swfs being saved in Temporary Internet Files.
I know this question has been asked for several times, but my curiosity to put up this question again is i visited a site called http://www.edumedia-sciences.com/ where in i had viewed some of their animations. The Best part is that i couldn't get through any of the swfs in the Temporary Internet Files. I should mention that i have deleted my cache and all the files in the said folder and then viewed the animations, even then No luck!!!.

How could they have achieved this. There are a number of JS files which may be doing the trick or may be the PHP. I would appreciate if anybody anybody could help!!!

Thanks in advance

Temporary Internet File Settings
I updated a site that I made for a client. He and his partner cannot cannot see the update. But I can see it, aswell as everyone else that I asked to check it. I told him that it was likely his temporary internet file settings. Is there anything else that I should consider? Could the problem also lye within the server?

Cheers

Temporary Files Of Flash 10

Loading SWF's In The Temporary Files
Hi, I have a full flash site, and some of the SWF files of my site are updated almost daily, and my problem is that when someone visits my site the SWF file is storaged in the Internet Explorer's cache, and if that person comes back to the site the next day, he or she gets the old version of the swf file storaged in his computer and not the new one that has been updated.

So I would like to know how can I do so that the SWF files doesn't get storaged in the temporary files? Or what can I do so that each time someone comes to my site, he gets the new version of the SWF files? What code may I use?

Linking To Files That Are In The Folder That Hold The Folder Where Ur File Is
i'm trying to get my website to run as it would on the internet but not actually on the internet for a college exhibition. most of my website is in one flash doc but a few pages are seperate that hold some media. all the pages are in one folder (except one) and link to each other with this code:

on (release) {
getURL("whateverfile.htm");
}

the other page is my music page, which is in a folder within the folder that all the other pages are in. to get to the music page from the rest of my website, i did this:

on (release) {
getURL("musicfolder/mymusic.htm");
}

if you even know what im talking about how to i get back out of that folder to the main folder with a link to the main website page?

this is what i tried:

on (release) {
getURL("websitefolder/mywebsite.htm");
}

it didnt work.
i'm quite new to action scrpiting, as in i started learning 3 days ago. im more of an animator to be honest. thanks

Does Flash Save Images To Temporary Files?
Hi guys

I am just wondering, if my flash application loads an image dynamically at one stage of the movie and then the user comes back to that image later on, will flash actually download the image again or will it use a saved copy in the temporary internet files?

If it does not do this automatically, does anyone know any good ways to do this?

Thanks
Shane

Flash Files Saved Temporary By Explorer?
I am planning to have a menu in flash on my site. I am not using frames. Will the flash file be cached by explorer by default or do I have to use frames to prevent flash to be loaded over and over again on every page?

Flash, Loading Files & Temp Internet Files
Hi guys,
I have a problem with files getting stored in the Temp folder of a client's machine.

When I host an SWF file on a site, that swf file gets downloaded to the client's (in this case , my) machine in the Temporary Internet Files. Now, if that same SWF is loading a text file or an XML file stored on the server to read data, using either LoadVars.load() or XML.load() method and a relative URL as path, that text or XML file also gets stored in the Temp files of the client machine.

I wanted to know, is there a way to prevent the text files and XML files from getting downloaded to client machines ? Or is that the way the load method works ?

If the swf files has a need to make repeated loads of the same file, will it read from this downloaded file or will it make repeated calls to the server ?

Please tell me if I can clarify the problem more.
Thanks for your help

Deleting Swf Files From Temporarty Internet Files

How Many Files In Folder ?
How can I, with ActionScript, look in a folder and see how many say mp3 files are ? (a variable 'n' will get the value of the number of mp3 files).

Get Files From Folder
I always thought you couldn't do this but read somewhere that someone did:

I'm making a desktop application and I need to get all of the file from in certain folder. Is this possible in AS? IE, I need to get the name of and import every file in the folder C://documents and settings/my pics. If it is possible, how?

Getting Files From A Folder
how do I get and open images from a folder I have?

Delete ASO Files? Which Ones?
I've noticed that .fla files have "Delete ASO files and Test Movie" (and the regular "Delete ASO Files") and classes just have "Delete ASO files".

Are they all equivalent, in terms of deletion? Or does the option with .fla files only delete ASO files to which the .fla uses, and the option when viewing a class only deletes that class' own and related ASO files?

Referencing ASP Files In Folder
This should be an easy one --

Say my main site with html and swf is in
inetpub/wwwroot

And I want the SWF file to use ASP that I put in
inetpub/wwwroot/aspscripts

How do I reference them in the loadVars calls?

Do I just do say

myLoadVars.load("/aspscripts/whatever.asp",,"POST");

or do I need to do it another way? I dont think the above works for me..

thanks

List Files In A Folder
i was wondering how to make a script to list files of a certian extention like jpg images, into flash.

i want to be able to find all the filenames that are jpg's and them list them on a selection list, so people can choose which file to view, rather than me updateing the internal flash database inside the flash file everytime i upload a new pic, so that it'll be included in the list of choises, thanks!

Counting Files In Folder
Hey everyone,

Im working on this website with my brother for my cousin and to save my cousin some effort, I need to be able to count the number of files that are contained in a folder.

Im pretty sure it will require Php, so if anyone know how or of any tutorials, could you please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Loading All Files In A Folder
How would you load all the files in a folder into as3 without knowing the specific names? I plan to load a bunch of xml files but the names will not be in order.

Enumerate Files In A Folder Using AS 2.0?
I have a frame in my Flash project where I want to show a different pic for every day of the year based on the current Julian day of the year. The pics are kept in a separate folder and each pic has a random name but ends in a number that identifies what day of the year it should be displayed (i.e 244, 320, etc).

My question is, is there a way to enumerate the files in the folder using AS? I've searched everywhere and it looks like I'll have to use an external JS function for this but I want the SWF file to be completely self contained. I want to be able to randomly add and remove pictures to and from the folder without manually updating the code in the FLA file.

One workaround would be to store all of the file names in a text file and import the text file into a variable, but I would not need to do that if AS 2.0 can enumerate the folder's contents for me.

Can Flash Tell Me How Many Files Are In A Folder?
Hey People

ok so this what I wanna do. I want to make a dynamic website which reads a certain folder(or perhaps just a certain set of files ie. graphicxx.jpg upwards) and depending on that create said amount of buttons or links or whatever.

Can flash look in a folder and see how many files there are in that folder and return a numerical value?

Can Flash See How Many Files There Are In A Folder?
Is there any way to tell flash (alone) to count the files in a specific folder? I'm loading some images from a folder and the quantity of files is not constant, so instead of editing the text file (I'm grabbing information from that via LoadVars) each time, can I get the number of files with flah, without any eternal script?

Thanks in advance.

Looping Through All The Files In A Folder
Hi

I'm totally new to Flash (usually I do print and video stuff), but have been asked to put together a simple photo gallery on CD for somebody, largely as a favour. I bought a template from ohmyflash.com (have emailed them about this but so far, nothing) which can be viewed here:

http://www.ohmyflash.com/gallery/124/124a.html

The way they've set it up (which I didn't realise at the time) is for the images to be numbered 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. There's a variable which sets how many images it's looking for, and then it loads them up. If it tries to load one it can't find, you just get a blank.

Anyway. The images we have are all named in a specific way (eg "Aleksander Nevsky Cathedral 1, Toompea, Tallinn, Estonia.jpg"). The ideal would be to set the template up with a caption field, so it does this:

for each (file in folder) {
if (filetype is jpeg) {
// display thumbnail
}
}

thumbnail.onClick {
// display larger image
// set image caption to the filename minus the .jpg
}

I'm pretty familiar with PHP, ASP and JavaScript, but ActionScript isn't making a lot of sense to me, and I can't work out how to do this. I suppose a neater way would be to use XML, but this template isn't set up to use XML. If you can help me do this, I'd be massively grateful. I'm using Flash CS3, so compatibility shouldn't be a problem. The existing ActionScript code is pasted below.

Thanks in advance

Nick

Is There A Way To Get Flash To Tell You Which Files Are In A Folder?
In Director you could do this:
getNthFileInFolder(n) was the syntax from memory (running inside a loop that was initiated via getting the number of files in the folder).

Can Flash do this? This would be for an exe file as the final output.

All I'd need returned is a list of filenames.

At the moment I'm numbering my text files - 01.txt, 02.txt, 03.txt etc... I can find out how many files there are by doing a loadVars inside a massive loop until I get a load failure, but it'd be better to be able to name the files according to what they contain and have Flash just look at how many there are and what their filepath or filenames are.

Thanks for any help,
pH

List Files In Folder
Hi.

Is there a way to get a list of the files in a specific folder? For example, if I want to build an array with the names of the .jpgs in the "my_images/holidays" local folder, so I can load them orderly in a swf, how could I get them?

Thank you in advance.

[Help] Saving Files In A Specified Folder.
Is it possible, either with AS1.0 or as2.0 to save a text file and create folders from flash in a specified directory?

I know how to use sharedObject, but I was wondering if there was any way to save files to other locations or even create a folder to save them into.

Thanks!

Is There A Way To Read How Many Files Are In A Folder With AS?

Since I dont want to set up a DB for such a tiny task, I was wondering if there's any way to do this!

If not in AS, in PHP?

Number Of Files In A Folder?
I've been working on a cd-oriented interactive portfolio, using flash for some time now. I plan to have graphics, movies, and website sections to it. With each section, I'm dynamically loading a bunch of thumbnails from a specified folder (using thumb1.jpg, thumb2.jpg, etc), which, of course, load a full sized image when clicked.

What I was wondering, exactly, is how to actionscript a piece of code that can detect for you the number of files in a specified folder? The way I'm currently doing this is to load a text file, with loadvars, and thus a variable which I manually assign the number of files within the folder. So, as an example, right now I have a text file called loadme.txt which contains the single line "number=6". This works fine, but isn't terribly efficient. And I've gathered from other posters attempting to do the same thing that it's possible to automatically detect the number of files, though I have no idea how.

Any help or insights would be appreciated.

Delete ASO Files Extension?
I'm pretty sure this exists, but I'm having a hard time finding it - an extension (command) for Flash MX 2004 that will delete your ASO files for you.

Delete Cached FLV Files
Is it possible to delete cached FLV files from the users browser to help prevent users from stealing copyrighted material?
