Flash :: Developing A Newsletter...

Hello guys. I'm looking in how to do a very simple newsletter in flash. Just a textbox to input the mail that want to receive the news and a send button. in the email of the person how want to receive the newsletter, should receive a email with a confirmation and, after confirm, I'll receive an email to join the mail to a contact list, so I can sen all the news to the interest people.

How can I do this? Does anyone knows any sample to look at? I really don't know very much about action script.

AS2/PHP Newsletter?
I've had a search on the forums, but haven't found exactly what I am looking for.

I have a commision for a website, and they need a simple newsletter, where people sgn up from the flash site, and they can send a bulk newsletter etc.

I would imagine a simple db or text file would suffice, where they can manually add the collected email addresses and send out a newsletter, rather than a dedicated control panel.

Does anyone know of a Flash newsletter script, preferably AS2 and PHP?

ok, im mking a flash movie and want to write it 2 cd, its gonn be like a monlthly school newsletter type thing only done in flash, soooo...... i want to put files on the cd nd nt people to be able to "download" the files off the cd through flash, im thnking i could use a url to do it , becuse people use different cdrom drive letters im not sure how to make the "download" work on all drive letters, cn ny1 help me!?

Flash And Newsletter
Hi Flashers,

I'm not a Flash Scripter as I do only animations, but getting in Scripting and need you're help. I'm designing a website in which I added a Flash Newsletter table. Actually, I haven't worked on it yet but I kept a Input text bar with a button (with the script "go to and Play(2)") and in he second frame I had a text "Thank You".

Now the main problem is I want visitors to input their email address into it and their email address should get added in my Excel / Access database, which I can further use to send them the Newsletter. Now I don't know how to embed Excel /Access with Flash. Whaht sript should I give to that button. What database I need to structure out for this. I also need the possibility that user should enter "@" sign in their email address and all.

I hope you people understand what I mean and will help me......

Developing The Site?
Ok,

So I've made my menu, I have my intro, then I have my HTML content pages. How to I put it all together?

Example:

Lets say I have a moon shaped vertical menu that wraps around my content pages. Is it easier to make the content all in flash or can I mask my entire SWF over the content pages in order to give it the effect of it all being as one.

Sorry if I'm not making much sense, but what I'm trying to do is avoid that frame page look. I see alot of great sites that are all flash and the pages are contained in flash but I haven't figured that out yet.

If someone has the source code of an entire site to show me how it's put together that would help.

Grrrr... I even confuse myself.

I did my HTML page but when I copy the code
on to the email and send it (to myself)
for a test it gets blocked automatically by
antivirus software and I just get blank page for result...

[F8] Developing An Mp3 Player
I'm working on an mp3 player for my podcast's website and I'd like the ability to create a dynamic playlist. I've been spending my time reading a tutorial over at thegoldenmean.com.

I'm looking to create a player like the one used for the player at djdownload.com. Ideally I'd like a viewer to click on a link for my popup window. I'd like to read my playlist from an xml file dynamically and in the track listing have the option to download the show or remove it from the playlist. DJDownload.com does something similar to this but I'm not understanding how they're creating each row. I can't use a basic listbox since I can't dynamically create the buttons on the page and include them in the box from what I know.

Can someone point me in the direction for what I'm trying to do? I'm a seasoned php developer but I'm pretty new to flash still. I'd really appreciate any help.

[F8] XML Newsletter-ish Tutorial?
first off, i didn't know if i should put this in the xml forum because this deals mainly with XML or this forum because it is something that seems simple.
i'm making a flash site, and i would rather not have to reopen and change the fla every time i want to change something like a picture, or write an article or something.
from what i have read, it seems that this can be best accomplished with XML.
what i need to know how to do:
a script that loads a picture from the xml file into a alotted area on screen(guessing a blank MC)
a script that lets me populate a scrollable textfield with text from the xml file

anybody know any tutorials that can help me with that?

Developing For Different Resolutions
Hey everyone.

I've recently started developing a big project in flash.
I'm trying to tackle the resolution issue at the start, but not sure what to do.

The way I see it, the only way to go is to make something for default resolutions such as 1028*768. Other then that there isn't much to do.

A browser stats site showed that something like 50-60% have that res, but other users have different resolutions. I dont want my users to see the game as too big or too small.

Any advice?

Hey! Great forum here and helps me out all the time.

I want to add a text box to a web site built in flash CS 4, but with AS 2.
This is for users to be added to a annual newsletter, the user will submit their email address. (Enter address, click send)..

Will someone point the way with what type of tutorials will walk me through the process? (Textbox? Email link? etc).

Developing For Flashlite 2

I've been asked to develop an application in FlashLite 2 to run on a phone. Is this just like developing for other Flash apps, except that you create at the phones screensize and export to FlashLite 2, more or less, or is the entire process much different? Developing For Two Servers...
Hi,

My company is about to start developing a Flash application for recording to Flash Media Server. The client has said they are concerned that if their server with FMS on it goes down, then the application will be unusable. They've asked if it is possible - and whether it has any affect on development - to have two Flash Media Servers running, so that if one server goes down, the SWF will connect to the other server. Can anybody let me know if this is possible/difficult to do?

Also, they had a few other questions for me, which I think I've found the answers to. If anybody could confirm though then I'd feel a lot happier :) They were:

Q1) Is there a way of informing users when the number of allowed connections is used up?
A1) Yes, you can have a preloader on the SWF connecting to the server which will have some informative text (e.g. "connecting - please wait a few moments. Try again later if it takes longer than...")

Q2) Can the application connect via port 80 or port 443 instead of the standard Flash port?
A2) Yes, the SWF file will try these ports if connecting over the standard Flash port fails.

Q3) Does FMS come with a tool to convert FLV files to MP3?
A3) Not currently. There are other (3rd party) tools that claim to do this (e.g. Total Video Converter).

Sorry for the bombardment with questions! If you could answer my first question, and possibly confirm any of the other assumptions, then that would be really appreciated.

Hi!

I would like to design a newsletter and send it to all our clients... Don't really know how to go about doing it... Must I design a webpage and when I open it in ex. IE, just go to file>send as email?? And, if I do that, and use flash on the page, it gives me an error about Active X and security warnings....?? So, can you not use flash?

Help I'm Developing A Tutorial...
I'm developing a tutorial and, am having trouble with the interaction. I need the "user" to be able to click on an answer (multiple choice); and the selected "ansrwer" would then display "Correct" or "Incorrect".
The problem that I am having is that I need to keep all of this as one file; no external files. No loaded .swf files.

Little Newsletter Thing
Happy New Year to Everyone Here at Kirupa!

I got this little news letter thing that I am trying to get working heres the layout of the little guy:

All in one MC called: newsletter_mc
A dynamic text field, a button and a background image.

when user enters email address and presses button time line goes to nextFrame and plays (text field and button fades out.) thank you appears and then goes back to frame one (text field fades in and button fades in) and stops on frame 5.

soooo. with that being said I am having issues still, here is the AS i have written:

Basically a text field that user puts in email hits button it all fades out then comes back and sets it self to "" (blank) the problem i am having is that the email stays in the field. Any ideas?

Anybody Developing With Red5?
I just found Red5 today, seems like the best thing in the world as far as flash... but nobody seems to talk about it here. I did a search for red5 and got 2 results from more than 4 months ago. So am I missing out on something better? Or are all of you missing out on this open source alternative to the Adobe Flash Media Server?

It streams video and audio via flash from a users computer to the server and back to other users.
It can also handle chatting applications as well as just sending data of any type to all the connected users.

Developing For A Kiosk And Cd-rom
I'm developing an interactive application for a kiosk and the dimensions I've been given are 2650 x 1600. The kiosk will have a beefed up CPU and RAM but this application will also be burned CD-ROM and used as a marketing tool as well. And user system stats will vary of course.

This project is photo and video heavy so stretching images will look like crap in Flash.

My concern is that if I create the stage at 2650 x 1600 and use a frame rate of 30 fps it will drag be okay on the kiosk but probably drag rear on the CD-ROM.

So my question is what dimension and frame rate is a good catch-all for this project with the consideration of video and photos, if any? Thanks.

Newsletter Problem
I know I've posted this a month ago but it seems the problem is still there. You see, I really want to know how to set up a basic newsletter/mailing list. I would really appreciate someone who could really help.

Developing Flash Websites
Would someone please point me in the direction to design/dev Flash based websites???

Is this a Publish/HTML function? Or export as movie and embed? Or something else? I have developed a site and placed the swf in a Dreamweaver file that then went online. Although its 99% Flash, it looks and acts like a traditional HTML site. I want to create the player window that you've seen in true Flash websites...it is about 50% smaller than your monitor and lacks an address field, back button, etc.

Please provide a direction toward a solution and I'll do the rest! Thanks.

Creating An Editable Newsletter
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is probably a topic relating to this but I don't know what to search for to find it!

I have a website created in Flash and my customer wants to create a postcode driven information page, so that when a user enters a particular postcode (or clicks on a specific are of a map) they get a new page that opens and contains text relating to their locality. The client would also like to be able to update this text on a regular basis from there own pc terminals.

Could anyone suggest any topics that cover this, the best way to do it or give me any answers to get me started.

Help Developing A For Loop Statement
Can someone show me how to build a for loop statement that will 1) create dynamic text file for each item in a text file or 2)add the contents to the dynamic text field as a list.

What I have is a list of pdf's in a text file called pdfList.txt, It looks like this: pdf0=Frank&pdf1=Bob&pdf2=Maggy&pdf3=Connie

In my code I have been able to create dynamic text field and added the first pdf in the list, but I am not sure what is best, to create individual dynamic text fields for each pdf or create a list. I would appreciate any help.

Rates For Developing In Flash?

I am about to design my first flash site for money.
I have designed many HTML sites and once used SWISH to make a nice hyperlinked banner for an HTML site.
This time arround, i am about to develop a hole site in flash!
I would typically charge $750 for the 1st page then $100 for each additional page.
What should i charge for a FLASH site? [i'm thining more than html...]
NOTE: these prices include domain registration and one year of webhosting.
