Runtime Shared Assets And Dynamic Folder Structures
I am using a CMS to load dynamic pages. Most of these pages have Flash content. The content SWFs all reference a SWF that holds shared library assets. The CMS undergoes periodic overhauls and the content gets shuffled. This results in broken links to my shared assets.

Does anyone know how to set the shared library URL at runtime? Is this even possible?

Contact Form With Combox's And Check Boxes
Hi does anyone know of any tutorials to create a contact form that
includes use of a combobox, i've found loads that are just straight
input boxes and have got one working, but i've found nothing that
includes being able to set variables for a combobox.

I'm very very new at action script so that's why im looking for a
working example/tutorial so I can pick it apart and see how it works.

I've tried places like actioscript.org and flashkit but as I said above
the only contact form examples they have are just straight input text
boxes.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most gratefull.

Contact Form With Combox To Choose Who To Send To
Hello. Iv'e been coming to this site for all my flash needs and have found everything i have needed so far but this one thing.

Im trying to create a contact form that has a dropdown menu with a list of names that can be emailed. So someone can choose who they want to email in one easy action. Im pretty new at flash so im not really sure where to begin. I've read the different tutorials on contact forms and am trying to understand PHP and XML and all... but am still pretty confused. If anyone can help me out in this or point in the right direction where to start I would really appreciate it. Thanks

How can one form communicate with another? I am building a Form
Application using Flash 2004 MX Pro.
I have two forms (screens) in my application: Form1, Form2.
I've added two windows to the application: w1, w2.
I've set contentPath of the window w1 to Form1. Analogue for the
window w2.

In Form1 I've put button, and in Form2 some DataGrid (instanceName = "podaci").

I've added action for button in Form1:

SWC Component Assets
Hello guys!

I'm creating a component right now. Everything was allright and fun until I tried to export it to SWC file and than use in other project. Despite I have worked out nearly all problems I had, there is still one to solve :|

So hear we go - my situation:
In my component I've got three AS-Exported MovieClips I use in the component's class code. One of them is "simple", so it's just graphics (rectangular fill converted to MC and linked for AS Export), wherase other two are "complex", meaning they both contain other MovieClips inside, but the internal MCs ARE NOT EXPORTED FOR AS. All three described MCs are put in the second frame of my component clip ("assets" layer, if the name of the layer could be the case).

My problem:
The problem starts when I try to drag the exported (to SWC file) component from the components' window onto the stage of another project. What happens - nothing :/ It's just impossible to import the component and use it.

Why is it so?
I worked out that when I removed the two "complex" components from the assets layer in my component clip, everything works fine - I can import the exported component and use it.
I also tried removing each clip that are inside the "complex" ones and it worked too.

But... it's not the solution I would be glad with ;P
So do I have to export each and every MovieClip inside the three "base" ones and call them separately in the component's class code? I haven't tried it, but it seems really pointless and time-wasting ;(

Please let me know if there is a possibility to to export for AS only the three "base" MovieClips for AS and be able to than call the internal ones from the exported, for ex:

myClip1.internalClip.alpha = .5;

JSFL Component Development
Basically im developing a component to function as a simplified textfield for use in an application i am making. And it would be nice if when you select the font from the font menu it embedded the font automatically. Now as of flash mx 2004 it wasnt possible to call a JSFL script to do this without using a custom user interface (didnt really fancy doing that).

As off flash 8 would this be possible?

Ghostwire Components: ScrollPane... Assets Loading Before Component?
I am having an odd issue. I am using teh ghostwire scrollpane, and i have everything exoprting in frame 1, and my scrollpane is on like frame 5. When frame 5 initally loads in I see the assets of the scrollpane rendered first for a split second [blank white box appears on screen] then in blinks away and the actual scrollpane-looking component is rendered.

Any idea WHY this happens or how to resolve it?

Can't Find Component Skins Folder
Hello, I have inserted a scroll bar and now I want to change the appearance. The help docs say I should go to the Component Skins Folder in the Library (or Common Library) but I can't find it. All I have in the library is: Buttons, Learning Interactive and Sounds. Where is this folder?

Component Skins Folder Not Showing In Library
When I drag a component from the UI Components folder to the stage it does get placed in the library. However, I would like to edit the component and there is NO component skins folder to accompany. It doesn't matter what component I put on the stage...how can I get the component skins folder to show in the library????

Unable To View Scrollbar Component Folder
I'm using Adobe Flash CS3 on a mac and I have added a UI Scrollbar to my text area. I've looked up tutorials on how to personalize my scrollbar and they all mention accessing the folder Flash UI Components in the library panel. However, my library panel only holds the UI Scrollbar component. No folder, no subfolders. So I can't mess with the actual move clip of the scrollbar and only the default bar is visible. Can anyone help?

Combox And AddEventListener
Hi,

I'm using multiple comboBox component on the same screen and I was wondering how I can also have multiple listeners to respeond to the selections? ie, each comboBox calls its own handler when needed.

For example
this.comboBoxA.addEventListener("change", this);
this.comboBoxB.addEventListener("change", this);
this.comboBoxC.addEventListener("change", this);

All the comboboxes call the "change" handler when I would rather they call, changeA, changeB, changeC etc.

Combox Mystery
I have some combo boxes that i have attached to the stage with attachMovie. I used a for loop to attach many combo boxes. after you click a button to submit the data in the boxes it takes u to another frame, but the combo boxes are still on the stage even 10 frames later, even with blank keyframes right after the frame that holds the combo boxes. how do i get rid of these bitches.

do I still need to name my combox : box1, box2, box3...

Combox Box Examples For MX
I dragged the combobox component onto the satage, put some values in it and wow, its only like 30k in size. There must be some sort of combo box that is smaller, maybe 5k?

Can you set an icon on this component. I have problems with that, but I can have the same icon on all items when settings defaultIcon = "name";

Combox Is Messing With My OnRelease
I have an application that uses a combo box to select information to be loaded. Before the user uses the combo box, my onRelease functions work fine; I can click on a button several times to activate the function without moving the mouse. Once a selection is made with the combobox, however, I can only click on a button once. After that, it won't run the function unless i move the mouse.

This is the code I have for the combobox (named select_order)

Combox + Set Initially Selected Value
I have a combobox dropdown that is populated with US State abbreviations (AL, CA, NY, etc.).

I would like the dropdown to set itself according to an initial value or label (not the index):

Combox Xml Attributes Question?
How many xml node attributes can be passed to a Combobox item?

scenario:

xml = <video url="video01.flv" xml="video01_cap.xml" desc="video 01" />

as = combobox.addItem(videos[i].attributes.desc, videos[i].attributes.url, videos[i].attributes.xml);

As you can see, I need the first one to label the item, the second to access the video and the third to access the caption xml.

i have another swf (called swf2)

when i load swf1 into movieclip( called movieclip1) from swf2, combox no open.

if i load swf1 into root swf2 no problem,,,

Scrollpane And Combox Box Issues
Hiya guys,

Im dynamically adding some mc's with some buttons in them to a scrollpane. The problem Im having is that the buttons work fine untill you select something from my combo box, then they only work intermitently.

I think it might be some kind of redraw issue as if I move my mouse a tiny little bit the button will run its function when clicked again, but if i keep it totally still its just wont do it.

Has anyone heard of any bugs to do with this?

Combox List Doesn't Opening
Hi,

I have a combox on the stage & I have inserted some values in the combobox using addItem().
Now, when I run the movie, I can see the default value in the combo text field, but when I click the arrow, drop down list is not opening & also trace(mc_combo.dropdrown) displays nothing. What could be the reason?

Combox Interaction With Submit Button
Hi i have a university project, where i have to create an flash file that letes 7-11 year old kids to write a story.

i have desgined it so that i have written most of the story but the user can sellect say for example the name for the character by selecting a comobox.

i now need to create a submit button that will store their choices, and it anther use them in another frame. to basically to show the user their finished story.

can anybody help me, and tell me how can i can do this, im not very good with flash or action script,

Loading Movies From A Folder Located In Root Folder?

I want to organize my root folder on the server better. How would I write the code to load a movie that is located in a folder called slideshow, for example? Basically, how do I target that movie located in root/slideshow/...

Linking To Files That Are In The Folder That Hold The Folder Where Ur File Is
i'm trying to get my website to run as it would on the internet but not actually on the internet for a college exhibition. most of my website is in one flash doc but a few pages are seperate that hold some media. all the pages are in one folder (except one) and link to each other with this code:

the other page is my music page, which is in a folder within the folder that all the other pages are in. to get to the music page from the rest of my website, i did this:

}

if you even know what im talking about how to i get back out of that folder to the main folder with a link to the main website page?

this is what i tried:

Xml Loads When Path Is To The Same Folder,but Not From The Folder I Need To Load Fro
hey there! here is my problem if anyone is so kind to point me in the right direction:

i have a Part2_Resources.swf that loads assets/resources.swf into a container on it's root timeline. no problem. assets/resources.swf then loads in config.xml for its content. i think the problem comes in relation to my file structure even though I have already made sure that my path is relative to my root swf.

this presentation will be on cdom so i want to keep my main projector file out in the open and then store all the other files into an 'assets' folder. so here is my file structure:

cd / Part2_Resources.swf (will end up being a projector file)
assets folder / resources.swf and config.xml

when i play my resources.swf by itself with the config.xml loaded directly it works perfectly (ie path: configxml.load("config.xml")

but when i play the Part2_Resources.swf, which then loads assets/resources.swf, wich in turn loads config.xml from the assets folder (ie: path to xml file in resources.swf changed to configxml.load("assets/config.xml") the data doesnt load, or isn't visible for some reason. I am not getting any errors, just no content from the xml file.

i can't figure out where im going wrong except that i might need to use absolute paths which i don't know how to do from a cdRom!

maybe it is another problem altogether?? i attached my files if anyone wants to give it a go!

Shared Assets Inside Shared Assets?
I have a rather large flash app I am building for the web and I want to minimize loading times for different sections of the system by using shared assets. However I was wondering if you could have a 2 or even 3 layer shared asset system.

I'll try to explain what I mean using the problem that I am having.

firstly the files>

main.swf //the main movie in which all other assets or clips are used in
section1.swf // shared asset file holding movieclips
section2.swf // shared asset file holding movieclips
section3.swf // shared asset file holding movieclips
interface.swf // shared asset file holding the interface images (large file!)

When the system is running main.swf will get the assets for the different sections from the section.swf files. However each section.swf file uses the same interface images so another shared asset file interface.swf holds these images and it is shared between the 3 section.swfs. However these too are shared asset files that provide assets for main.swf

In this system I have two layers of shared assets because only main.swf is what the user uses.

here is a simple layout>

So will I actually save loading times by loading only one copy of interface.swf when one of the section.swfs loads? After that any other section.swfs that have their assets used in main.swf will get their interface images from the cache since interface.swf has alreadey been loaded when the first section.swf loaded.

Would this 2 layered shared asset system work or can you only have one layer shared assets like normal?>

Shared Folder, Resource Folder ...
This is a bit of an open question, but in terms of application development, project development, systems architecture, etc, in what situation would you have a 'Resource Folder' and a 'Shared Folder'. I believe these are common, so where are they used. Anyone heard of these terms before ?

Scrollpane And Form Component Help
I'm doing a form in flash 8 that uses the text input and dropdown components and i'm using them within the scrollpane component since there isn't room for the whole form in the movie. I have some form validation that checks certain fields and when it diplays the errors i need to go back to the top of the form in the scrollpane so i'm using the "refreshPane" method. the problem i am having is after i use the refreshpane method the textinput boxes and dropdowns no longer work. Anybody run into this?

Component Checkbox In Form
Heres what I am up against!

I have a series of 20 checkboxes to check for certain responses from a simple form. Only problem being that I dont want to have to check each of the 20 checkboxes to get the required values, so I added a loop to check them for me. Initially only the first six and then so on and so on.

Problem being that the variables are always '0'

Anyone worked on something similiar or can point me in the right direction?

i just made a flash component form using a tutorial from kirupa. i finsihed it, and i noticed that it doesnt tell you how to make it send the info from the form to your email account.

i was wondering if ne 1 knows how to make the info get sent to ur email at the click of a submit radio button...

Preloading Mx Component Form
Hi there,

Ive producted an application form using components from the flash MX panel which has a simple percentage preloader at the beginning and is around 150kb, but when I test movie with the bandwidth profiler on, It shows that it takes around 35k before the preloader even kicks in, now if I remove all flash components from my library and retest the preloader kicks in straight away.
anyone now why is this?

I have been searching for ages now and need a solution to a MX 2004 components problem in conjunction with coldfusion.

I have made quite a simple email form that works and outputs with the aid of a cfm file quite sweetly. As soon as you introuduce a checkbox component, the email does not come through. My question is then, how do you get the variables from the checkboxes sent to the cfm form?

Flash As A Form Component
Not sure if anyone has done this, but I was wondering you could have a flash component act as a form component. For example have flash component that would be a text editor and then the data inside it would be submitted when you submit the form I imagine a bit of js would be needed with external interface in order to grab the text on submit, but a rich text editor box seems much better suited to flash that it does js. Also it wouldn't be hard to strip out stupid work stuff or switch markup engines. Just kind of thinking out loud here and trying to get some feedback.

MX Component & PHP Mail Form
I'm having a problem that I haven't been able to find any info on the web about. In Flash MX I have a mail form (it is a request for order).... it contains a bunch of text fields, etc. everything works fine with my php script EXCEPT the one component I am using. I have the drop down component with a bunch of products to choose from, however I can't seem to get that component to work with the php to send the product name desired in the email. If anyone could help me out that would be great, or if you know of a tut or any resource you could point me to I'd love it... as I said I've already searched, but to no avail.
