Do I Use A Shape Tween? Mask? Motion Tween?
How do I make this arrow grow into shape? I want it to slowly appear...but not fade in...
it's hard to explain...but here is the arrow, hopefully you will understand what I want...
I tried using a mask, but instead of revealing the arrow little by little, it dissapeared little by little...(basically the exact opposite)...
I also tried putting a white box over it & motion tweening the box to reveal the arrow...but that didn't look good...
any ideas?...suggestions?

Using Stop(); On A Shape Tween Of A Swapped Movie Clip Symbol Within A Motion Tween
Thanks a lot for your time. I'm new to actionscript, and language syntax and I never really got along to begin with so I appreciate any help in the matter.
Basically the title says it all - I made a motion tween in the main scene, made a movie clip symbol (to shape tween a gradient) and added a stop(); inside the gradient-tweened-symbol. I then swapped the movie clip symbol with the motion tween in the main scene, and got exactly the effect I wanted (the item moved, then tweened itself) but the stop(); seems to have no effect.
I know this looks like one of those "that idiot didn't google before posting" questions, but I've been looking for about a half hour with different permutations of stop, doesn't work, actionscript, and flash, and I haven't found anything that seems to target this problem specifically.
If you've got any idea what's going wrong, please feel free to respond or show me how to better seek help on my own. Thanks again.
Shape Tween Like A Motion Tween, Using Guide Layer
How if possible, can i make a shape tween behave and follow a set path (like using a guide layer)while morhping/tweening?
So far it seems as each time i try it always goes in a straight line from a to b and in this case that's not what i'm after.
Change From Motion Tween To Shape Tween
I am trying to have a motion tween of some text move on the page and then change into a shape (i.e, a shape tween). I can't seem to make this work. I put a keyframe at each end of the motion tween and that works fine. Then I add another keyframe, delete the text and replace it with my shape. Then I select just those frames and add the shape tween but nothing happens. How do I accomplish this successfully?

I have created a movie that draws a box, fills in the box with color and then is supposed to have the menu swoop in from the right. Mind you this is for learnnig, not cosmetic appeal Why is it when I use tweens I get the dotted line versus a solid line in the time line?
If you take a peek at the FLA it is obvious what I am referring to. I must be using the tween function or symbols in an improper manner.
I have attached the FLA.
Any help appreciated.

Motion Tween & Shape Tween In Same MC? How?
I have created a shape tween on my first layer. On my second layer I would like to create a motion tween. But the motion tween says it will not occur with layers with shapes or more than one group. Can anybody enlighten me a little bit on this.

I have a site I'm re-doing from scratch, and I see quite a few places I got lazy and used a lot of Movie Clips. I could use shapes and have the same result. The main .swf did suffer from a little slow down...
I've read most of the literature there is on the net [on this subject], and I was wondering what first hand experience some of you had?

Mask Or Shape Tween?
I want to make my logo basically draw it self on the screen. it is all letters, so I want the letters to reveal themselves individually, and almost appear as if they are being drawn. Does that make sense? I was thinking that I might need to use a mask or shape tween. But I can't seem to figure out how to do it with either. I don't want to do it frame by frame. I'd rather it go along a path or something...
Any suggestions?

I just started learning flash and i found these boards they have helped me with everything so far. But now i am stuck i can perform motion tweens and shape tweens but how can you use both shape and motion on one layer. please help me
Masking W/ Shape Motion Tween
I am trying to use some masking that utilizes some shape tweening as well. It seems that this only works when I publish in the Flash 6 player. So my question is does the Flash 5 player support masking layers with shape tweening? It does not appear that it does, but I did not think this was a new feature in the Flash 6 player and swear I have seen some sites that use this with the Flash 5 player. Help With Bitmap Motion/shape Tween
I have a book i'm attempting to animate. The cover opens and the problem is I need to distort the bitmap in order to make the animation completely realistic. Obviously, I could do a (size costly) frame by frame version, but I'm not too thrilled about that. I can obviously do a motion tween with scaling and the book cover closes fine. Problem is that with perspective, I need the height of the cover's edge to get larger as it approaches the 90 degree angle point. Get what I'm saying? How can I apply a tween that will allow me to scale AND distort the bitmap while retaining a good, clean tween on the bitmap (without unwanted affects)?

Shape (mask) Tween With Actionscript
i'm wanting to reveal a shape at a 45 degree angle, and maybe an image, using a mask.
i'd like it to be quite fast and as smooth as possible... and maybe deaccelerating as it is revealed; is it possible to do this with actionscript? and would it create the effect i'm looking for...?

Shape Tween Mask That Moves?
I'm a bit of a newbie so, please forgive me, but I'm using Flash MX and I'm trying to do something that should be very simple.
I'm trying to use a shape tween and a motion tween at the same time as a mask.
I have a photo that is moving from the bottom to the middle of the canvas.
I want a circle mask to "travel up" with the photo, and, while it is traveling up, to enlarge its shape so that it reveals more and more of the photo as the photo is traveling up.
I've successfully made the mask and I can successfully travel the mask up with the photo. But for the life of me, I can get the circle shape to enlarge AS it is traveling up.
I've tried to place a shape tween movie on both ends of the motion tween that is traveling the mask but, for some reason, the shape tween mask stays in its initial grow and doesn't enlarge as it travels. yet, when I test this shape tween independent of the motion tween that is moving the mask, the shape tween works fine.
Please help.

[CS3] How To Move An Entire Shape Or Motion Tween
scenario is i've created a motion tween for fading purposes, have my object with alpha 0% at point A and end 100% at point B as normal.
now i want to move the entire sequence to a new location, the way i'm doing it now, is i have to move the beginning graphic, then manually move the ending graphic as well, and try to even match it up so that there's no movement during the fade.
is there anyway to way to just grab the entire thing and move it on the stage?
Create Shape And Motion Tween Of A Line
I am trying to create a line graph in which the line is following a certain path over time like in a simulation. The line starts with a point in frame 1 and ends with a smooth not straight line in e.g. frame 50. The line has to "run" like in an electrocardiogram.
Is it possible to create this in flash?
If so, how? I tried to combine shape and motion tweening, but that didn't work.

The First Frame Of My Shape Tween Should Look As The Last Frame Of My Motion Tween...
How do I make a motion tween go over in a shape tween? When breaking apart my instance, I loose all effects. (Gradient fill/tint/alpha (newbie...)). How can I start a shape tweening with an object that at least LOOKS like the instance in the last frame of my motion tween -since I cannot add tint or alpha to it- ?

Shape Tween Mask And Loaded Movie Clip
I have a blank movieclip on the stage that gets an external .swf file loaded into it. This clip is masked by a shape tween that is controlled by a button elsewhere. When the shape tween is played and the final keyframe of the shape tween is reached, the .swf loaded in the clip is unloaded for some reason. What is causing this, and what can I do to work around it?
Issues Controlling Movieclip Under Shape Tween Mask.
So I have a movie clip underneath a shape tween mask.
If I disable the mask I can then use getChildByName to get references to my instance names of clips on the timeline and set their properties.
With the mask enabled, none of my clip specific code is available.
Any thoughts on this behavior? It works fine with a simple shape mask, but if I use a shape tween nothing within the masked moviecilp will become active.

Help With Motion Tween Mask Glint
Ok well latly I have been having issues with getting a text mask where is masking gradient box underneth to show up in the test flash or in a final flash yet i can play it on the stage and it works. How I create it is first make two layers, name the top layer with the text and name it text mask. then the second layer i name it gradient box. I then put the font i want on the first frame of the mask layer, get the size and everything. Then on the first frame on the gradient layer I then make the rectangle the right size for it. Then I add a key frame to the end of each. Then I go back and move the gradient box so half of it is showing half of the box through the text mask. then on the new key frame i then move it to the other side. i then add a motion tween and mask the text box to the gradent box. i go to the control dropdown menu in flash and and click play to see it, but if i try to test it then it wont show up at all nether the box nor the text or what i want as the finished product. Anyone have any ideas why this might be ? Do i need to make ether of them movie clips ? do i need to tween the masking layer ? I am really lost on this so any help would be awsome. Weird Lines Appear During Motion Tween That Involve Size/shape Transforms...
Hey guys, I've encountered a strange problem while making my new flash cartoon;
It happens during motion tweens involving a size or shape transformation of a movie clip - For some reason these weird lines appear and flicker on and off while the tween runs. The lines can't be erased, and I have no idea how to get rid of them or what is causing them; it tends to happen when the movie clip is more of a geometric shape like a box or a table drawn using the pen tool. I've attached some images of what they look like;
See the lines? They flicker on and off, its really distracting and annoying.
I've tried to break apart the movie clip and do the size transform as a shape tween rather than motion tween but the lines still pop up RIGHT when I try to change the image's size or shape. It's happened on more than 1 occasion, after restarting the program too so I dont know whats wrong.
As you can see in the images, the lines kind of flicker on and off,change color as the tween runs.
Does anyone know how to remove these/avoid these? I would really appreciate any tips or suggestions. Thanks alot guys!!

Combining A Path Motion Tween With A Mask
I have a mask layer that I have animated and underneath that I have a motion tween of a symbol using a path motion guide. The mask doesn't seem to work with those layers. Is that a restriction?
Motion Tween With Mask Makes A Ripple
I have two concurrent motion tweens running for 25 frames. The bottom tween is simply a white background graphic while the upper tween is a white bg graphic that is masking several layers (which are not in motion).
Both of these masks are scaling up about 75%. Everything is setup fine and running ok, performance wise, but I'm not happy with the look of the motion tween as it creates a visible stutter or ripple in the motion tween as it scales up. Why is that and how can I fix it so it is a smooth motion tween.
Ultimately, I'm trying to get that sort of same smooth effect as on Shane's cisholleywood.com.
any ideas?

Seperating Motion Tween From Alpha Tween
I am trying to fade in the alpha on a graphic symbol rather quickly at the same time the symbol scrolls very slowly up the stage, but the two seem linked, so that a very slow scroll means a very slow opacity gain. How can I fade the photo in quickly while the photo motion tweens slowly?

hey guys, its been a while.
i have a pretty strange problem, strange in the way that i dont understand why its happening, any help would be appreciated.
im creating a bejwelled game.
what im doing is:
when you click on two adjacent blocks, i call a function that uses a motion to swicth them. This works great. The i call a function to test whether the move has resulted in a combintion of >2 blocks. If it returns false, i recall the previouse tweening function to reverse the blocks to their original positions, this is where my script breaks down, it executes the function but nothing moves !

Shape To Text Shape Tween Not Responding
I wanted to know if anyone has encountered this problem or can see that I'm doing something wrong. It really doesn't look too complex and I've also done it before with no issue. I'm only running 2gb of ram, but I've done this plenty of times with no latency and for some reason recently it just won't work. I'm using CS3 Pro, AS 3
Set up:
Draw a square in frame one
create a blank keyframe on say, frame 30
write some text on frame 30
shape tween the square into the text
Results:
If I tween the square to a single character-no problem
If I tween the square to a sentence slow tween on preview and publishing
If I tween 3 paragraphs it will bomb out and go into...not responding and I have to shut down the program
Any thoughts?
Motion Tween Vs. AS Tween
I have a 775px x 600px movie clip that has images in it. On a button click, that large image motion tweens using the Advanced color options ( RED 255 BLUE 255 GREEN 255 ) to the normal photo. Its basically going from solid white to a picture.
As you can guess, its really bogging down the processor. Would an AS Tween be more processor friendly?
I have never done a tween with AS so if there is a tute available that would be helpful as well.

Of course I know how to achieve this through the normal way of drawing a circle through the tools box but I have to figure a way out to do this to the shape drawn in action script via the drawing api. How can I do this?
I presume I have to someway make this shape appear in my library as a symbol possibly? Hope someone has a soloution thanks a lot

How do you do this. I want, for example. to make a simple square shape tween into the name, "Bryan". I fiddle with this, but it doesn't want to do it.

Shape Tween
Why whenever I use shape tween does Flash automatically assume that I want EVERY single line to merge? Here's what I did:
Drew an odd shape (kinda like a rectangle, only one side is slanted), filled it in with a different color that the lines, and group it together. I grouped it so I could resize the whole thing together with the Free Transform tool. In my first frame of my tween the shape is very small. During the tween, it doesn't expand, it just shows the border lines doing all sorts of weird things inside the middle and then forming the shape. I tried both distributive and angular to no avail.
It's worked before, but it doesn't seem to be today. Is there any way to tell Flash that I just want it to look like its being EXPANDED and to not collapse on itself to reform the shape?
