Does Flash Like Gifs
Okay i'm pretty new to flash but what I have picked up so far tells me I want to know more. If I wanted to include an animated gif within my movie would it have to be on an independent layer or do gifs and flash even like each other..i'm sure its a simple question, nevertheless one I need to understand. Thanks for any input you could provide.

Animated Gifs
I'm creating animated gifs using flash. However, once
the file has been published and I view in a browser the images look very fuzzy. I've tried everything I can think of in the publish settings, but nothing works to smooth out the images.

Any suggestions???

Importing Gifs
Hi FK peeps, I'm having trouble importing gifs into Flash 5 (Mac {which may be the problem!}) Basically I'm cropping them to the exact pixels I need in photoshop but when I place them on a movie Flash seems to remove 1 pixel from the bottom and the right hand side. This renders what I am trying to do useless as there are several gifs with lines around them etc. I've tried unchecking the 'Allow Smoothing' box but no joy there.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Scaling Jps Or Gifs
Is there a trick or a bandaide to apply to graphics when scaling fullscreen. I am making a movie at 1024 x 768, but it needs to run at 800 x 600 too. The graphics get ugly at the lower resolution. Switching to jpeg from gif seemed too help some.

I assume that it might be some what distorted at a differ size, but does it have to be totally messed up.

Exporting Gifs
i can't seem to export a high quality gif from flash. all i can get are optimized gifs that look like absolute ****. is there some setting i need to change?

how do i get an animated gif to work with flash mx? If i try and inport one to the library it just imports the last frame...

Transparent Gifs
Does Flash MX have any problem with transparent gifs being imported? I want to make a clickable button (logo) in Photoshop and import it into the corner of my web page. As soon as I figure out how to make my image a transparent gif, I then want to import it into my Flash fla. Anyone have an experience with that?

Animated Gifs
Hi!

I created a little animation in Flash and I would like to make it an animated gif. I went to the tutorials section and found the following:

1. Create any animation you like in flash
2. Goto 'File' 'Save as'
3. A Save As dialog box will appear. Now click on the drop down menu next to the word 'Save as type' and select 'Animated gif'
4. Press the 'save' button.

Now, my problem is...when I go to 'File' 'Save As', my only options are to save it as an FLA for MX or 5.

Why would this be?

I was wondering how you align animated gifs. I have a 30 frame gif but I haven't been able to figure out how to place them where I want to all at once.

I need to know how to make swfs into .gifs... I did the Export Movie... and it just made like 30 single frame GIFs, I want to make em move... anyone knwo how to do that for free? I also want to know how to put Flash movies online... but if you can answer the first question I'll already know how.

Can any one tell my the real difference between .jpgs and .gifs ?

I have been using both for some time now, and don't really know the deference's between them!

When is it best to use .jpgs and when is it best to use .gifs ?
I seem to use both depending on the image - when weighing up the different file sizes.

Are there any problems associated with either?
When using some .gifs... I get a small glitch in my image... what's that all about?

Transparent Gifs
I am trying to import transparent gifs into a Flash 5 Movie, but they are coming in with jagged edges and a 1 pixel white outline

I tried "save for web" gif and also "save as" png, the png file comes in cleaner around the edges but looks distorted when I test the movie.

can anyone tell me the best way to import these files?

Imported Gifs
Hello,

I am making a tile based game in flash mx 2004.

the tiles are imported as gifs and so is the main hero character. It looks like flash is trying to anti-alias the gifs, but not everywhere, only on certain pixels. Almost everything looks perfect, but there are a couple of blurry spots, almost like it is trying to stretch the image when it doesn't need to.

if I zoom in at 200%, it looks perfect.

Is there something I can to to force it not to do this?

Exporting GIFs
im trying to make a bullet out of a logo, and i want to make the background transparent i cant figure out how to do it with publish settings, and when i import it to photoshop it puts in a white background, which i cant take out cuz some of the edges of the logo are white and if i try to select the white from the background it selects part of the logo. anyone know what i can do?

Exporting To AVI With Gifs.
This may be easy as pie for some of you folks but being a n00b and all I just don't get it. How do you export a movie to an AVI file and still have your animated GIFS running as they normally would in an swf file?

I am new to this place. I have a problem. I import an animated gif. I want to resize it, but I want it to be exactly the same size in each frame. Is there a way to resize the gif without going to each one and resizing it manually hoping it's the same?

Blurry Gifs
Hi Guys,

Heres a classic problem. I've got a series of gifs in my movie to simulate a combobox in action, whilst in the edit mode the gifs look fine. As soon as I export and preview the movie the gifs move ever so slightly and as a result have blurred edges and are slightly stretched.

I've done the normal things, all the gifs are on whole x y co-ordinates (ie no decimal points), the _quality is set to BEST, jpeg quality is maximum (i think that still applies to gifs) and I have switched off Allow Smoothing in the gif properties.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? I've done all my usual fixes but they still blur and shift!

When ever i create an animated gif with pictures as soon as i publish it some of the pictures turn pixelated. Some of then stay ok. very confused.

Importing GIFs
Hi, currently I am trying to import a gif that I created in photoshop into flash and the edges always show up with a little bit of white around them, not the original smoothed part. I went back into Photoshop and edited the gif directly, but removing these white parts makes it very choppy and blocky, any insight on how I might fix this? Thanks a bunch.

Trouble With .Gifs
i am makinga banner for a website and before i would just have someone else make it and i would always get a .gif so i made my animated .fla and tryed alot of ways of converting it to .gif and it never animates its always just a single image never animated like i would like. This is my first post in this thread so i hope i get a war reception also for some reason my uppercase i will not work any suggestions for that??

Gifs And Ghosting
has anyonce else gotten a slight ghosting around supposed transparent gifs in flash. and does anyone have a solution to it?

Transparent Gifs Again
Imported some 24bit png's to deal with the nasty anti alias effect i was getting with transparent gifs. All goes well untill i realise there is a slightly aplha'ed white over the entire area that should be transparent.

Searched here got some advice to try png's from fireworks. Same problem. Same problem with giffs,png8's and png24's

Does any one know how to export any transparent format with out this distortion?

I have an effective work around (but for 1 small drawback in some cases)

1. Import your image with transparency.
2. turn image into a movie clip
3. go into the movie clip create a new layer above
4. copy the frame with the bitmap to the new layer
5. trace the bitmap in the top layer min pixel size 1
6. select all in the traced layer and change it all to 1 colour.
7. use it as a mask

Depending on the shape of the image the file size isn't affected too much but sometimes it can be huge. (1 example 100kb file 105kb with mask, 2nd example 4k file 14k with mask (was a bunch of 1px lines though)

And it does get rid of the annoying box effect and can be used with out altering source images.

Still does anyone know why the player does this or how it can be got round?

Exporting Gifs On The Fly
This may be a tall order. Is there any way to have a flash movie export an image file on the fly, i.e. from the flash player, not the flash authoring program? I want people to be able to take snapshots of what appears in the player and, ultimately, allow them to email the images. Is this impossible?

Making GIFs
Alright, I've successfully made some animated GIFs in flash. They work, sort of, but they look like crap.

I have Production Premium CS3.... is there a better way I could be making animated GIFs? Does Illustrator do them? After Effects? Who can tell me the best way to make the highest quality GIFs with the widest web compatibility? I would really appreciate it.

my girlfriend used a web site to make an animated gif. You basically upload a picture to this site called www.fotline.com. Once uploaded, it adds a shimmering water effect, and makes an animated GIF out of it. You can then copy the link, and post it as image code... OR... you can right-click on the picture, and do "Save As GIF picture."

Once she had it, she uploaded it to her "my photos" on myspace.com. It worked fine, still uploads and animates perfectly via their photo upload server.
Here's the problem. She doesn't want their little link-emblem thing on (which they automatically embed on the bottom of the GIF). So I took her picture, imported it into flash, put a black bar over the bottom, and exported it as an animated GIF. Unfortunately, when I try to upload it to myspace, it says "uncompatible file has not been uploaded." So for some reason, before importing it into Flash, the picture uploads and works on myspace. But after running it through Flash and re-exporting it as an animated GIF, it no longer is compatible with myspace. I unchecked "interlace, smoothing, etc." in Flash's GIF encoder. What else can I do?

Animated Gifs In F8
Hi. I use Flash to create animated GIF banner ads. I exparamented using some of the new filters in F8 to export as a GIF. When its a static gif, it works fine, but when its animated, it doesnt work (attached is a sample). Is there an option somewhere in publish settigns that I'm missing? any ideas? Also attached is a SWF of what it is supposed to look like.

Problem With GIFs
Ive been creating some animated Gifs using Imageready CS... they all work fine and dandy UNTIL I import them to FlashMX... as soon as I import them, they get all butchered and divided (which I know is kinda normal) having a bunch of jpgs and a Movie Clip as the end result... ideally the movieclip should play de gif as it is... but for some strange reason, it plays the first frame of the gif correctly and then it cuts the next ones... which is obviously good for nothing... what I dont understand is that I had already found some animated gifs on the net, imported them, and used them on flash mx with no problem whatsoever (it also divided them into various images and a mc) ... so my guess is that somewhere along the way Im exporting my gif files in a wrong way... is there a specific type of gif setting flash needs to make those dang gifs work correctly??

Oh and by the way I already tried using the "convert to flash" option in Imageready, and the end result is a horrible looking, big-sized convertion of my original gif...

Howdy. I read that I could make animated gifs with flash. So I made a little movie and tried doing as the people on the forum I found said; exporting instead of saving. Only it always comes out as single image non moving. So apparently i'm doing it wrong. I tried both export image and movie and niether work.
I uploaded a flash mx file that I tried to turn into a gif (somethign simple) of a smiley blinking. I have been unable to do as they said was possible so far and was wondering if anyone here could help me out.

Gifs Look Pixelated.
I am creating an animated Gif in photoshop, and image ready. Everytime I import the files into flash they have really bad pixelation around the outside of the text. I used all the different options for the text in photoshop but I still get the same results. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? If I import the files as .tiff they look fine. But I am trying to optimize my animations and would like to know how to solve this problem with Gif. Please help.

I know you can only use loadmovie fopr swf's and jpg's
but if I wanted to bring in animated .gif's could I create a web page with them on, then import that?

how can i improve the quality of gifs imported to flash? they are all getting a bit rough around the edges and look really ugly. unmarking 'allow smoothing' does not help.....

Dynamically Change GIFs
I want to know if it's possible to dynamically change a GIF image displayed by changing a variable in actionscript.

I'm trying to use Generator to do this, but can't seem to change the "File Name" variable with actionscript. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I would do it?

Transparent .gifs In Flash 5
I have imported several 'transparent' gifs into a Flash movie, but when I play the movie, you can clearly see the areas that i've made transparent in PhotoShop. Is there a special function I should be using to save these for use in Flash? I know PS gives many options (i.e. adaptive, perceptual, selective, etc. and then the 'dither' or 'no dither' options).

Downloading Gifs

I have some gifs and i have made them into a movie. I then made the movie a button and linked it to the gif file. How come i cant get the download window to just pop up without opening up a browser window. Someone please tell me how to fix it.
