URGENT Positioning Dynamic Text In Text Scrolling Window
Help!

I have a dynamic, scrolling text field, whose scroll is based on one of the tutorials on Flashkit. In the text I have some links which switch the content of the field via asfunction, but that's unimportant. I wanted to add a functionality similar to html "anchor", so when I switch the contents of the field (for example to read a CV of someone mentioned in the text), and remember windowTxt.scroll and windowTxt.maxscroll properties (where windowTxt is the variable name of the text field, after I finish reading the CV I click the special "back" button, and it loads the old text back and tries to set the windowTxt.scroll & windowTxt.maxscroll back to the state they were before entering the CV. I tried to do it like this:

IT DOESN'T WORK! The variables ARE there in the path because trace shows the proper values for all of them, but! The scroll property won't even bother setting itself to the desired value... and the scroll using buttons and the syntax

_root.windowTxt.scroll--;
or
_root.windowTxt.scroll++;

WORKS...

Oh by the way - this is for the projector...

To sum it up - I need to push the dynamic text to a certain value after it's loaded - how to do that? I've no time for experimenting... I've deadline in a few hours and this is the last feature I've to implement, after that it's source merging with a source from a friend's work and betatesting... If I won't make it - I'm screwed. Help With Scrolling Text Window
Ok i have a scrolling text window and everything scrolls fine its perfect but i have a link at the bottom of the text window and when i click on it it goes to the next frame like its supposed to but now the window is scrolled down to where it was when i clicked next page so i have to manually scroll up to the top of the page

in other words when the next page button is clicked it goes to the next page but not at the top of the page how do i set it to go to the top of the page? thanx

Auto-scrolling Text Window
I've created a dynamic text window that loads text fron an external source, now it reads simple .txt files but I'm planning to link it to a database. but sometimes the text is too much and I need it to scroll. I don't want any scrollbar, the txt has to scroll in automatic and maybe loop. now, having called my text window msg (in the VAR field) I wrote the following script to let it scroll:

msg.scroll = scr-1;

but it doesn't move; any idea to let it work?!

Adding Xml To Scrolling Text Window
The problem is, I used this tutorial to make my scroll window. It seems to coding method isn't the best way to do it, as it makes it a pain in the ass to update. The guy didn't even put it in as an actionscript text, I would have to open up the text layer every time.

I'm trying to modify it, but I'm really new at flash and kinda stuck..

Auto Scrolling Text Window
Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to get a scrolling text window which scrolls automatically. I have been able to make one that scrolls on a mouse event but I want it to just scroll automatically. It would have to scroll in a loop too. The text is being referenced from an external text file. First of all, is all this even possible? If so, I would greatly appreicate if someone could tell me how or point me to an online tutorial or book that would tell me how.

Flash Text Scrolling Window Like IFrame?
I have seen a few of these on flash websites and I'm not sure how they are made, can anyone help?

I'm talking about a flash file with a text box. On the right hand side there is a scrolling bar that goes up and down. I basically want to create something that looks like an iFrame inside flash for my resume. My resume is too long to fit legibly inside my flash project and I want to be able to create a custom side rectangle and put my text or pictures and text inside.

I've tried drawing a text box with the text tool but that only lets you create the width and not the height; plus when you enter a lot of text it just goes off the screen and does not stay contained in an area you specify.

I'm using both Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8.

Can anyone help me please?

Links That Do Not Work, Size Of The Site In The Browser Window And Scrolling Text
Hi,
I am a newbie and really need help! I have posted a site all in flash and have some serious issues with it!

1. my links on the last scene do not work and I have followed the book precisely.They go to newspapers.

2. the contact button on the nav bar on all the scenes (email link) does not work properly: it opens up to a cannot display page and then the microsoft outlookout window opens up with the email address.

3. The site opens up to be very small and not the size I intended.

4. I have 2 scrolling text boxes on 2 diff scenes. one is fine but the other opens up with a level thing (_.10level)and then the text I want loads in, how can I fix that?

Scrolling Duplicate
hi guys,

ook... here is the deal... i am working on my portfolio site, and want to do a sort of sliding selection menu... like the one's on flashlevel.com, but then horizontal, and without the mouse movement, but with two buttons scrolling forward, and backwards.

but (ofcourse) i cant figure out how that works... i figure it uses duplicate movieclip, since i want to use a external xml file. but cant figure out the actionscript.

could you guys please point me to a good tutorial on this subject, or help me get started in any way?

Duplicate Movie Clip Scrolling
Hello,

I have been searching these forums for over an hour and all I am getting is more conufesed.

What I have is a movie clip.

What I want is to have this continously scroll across the screen. After reading many responses it seems that I need to detect when the image has moved past its center point and then have a duplicate image appear next to it so it looks like it is continous.

I am totally lost, can some one show me the code I would need to have an image continously scroll so you don't see it change direction or have any breaks when it scrolls.

Duplicate MC Only Works When Scrolling Left
I am working in Flash MX and I am using buttons to scroll a MC and I want it to loop continuous when scrolled left or right.

I got one side working, the left button when moused over scrolls and scrolls and scrolls as it should. However the right button continues to only duplicate one time. I think I need to change a - to a + or < to a > somewhere.

How To Duplicate Seamlessly A Scrolling Movie Clip?

i have a scrolling movie clip containing news (loaded from external .txt file) and i want to duplicate it seamlessly so the duplicated movie follows the original one right after it finishes and then the original movie clip follows the duplicated one and so on.... (i hope you get what i mean )

Using Flash Scrolling Text Box To Create Scrolling Schedule
Hi All,

For work, I'm creating a PowerPoint presentation which needs to include a really long schedule. I wanted this schedule to crawl up the screen. I thought of doing this part in Flash and inserting it into the PPT. Has anyone had luck with this sort of thing using PPT and Flash? Is there a better strategy. I have CS3 Web and Production and will be doing this portion of the project this weekend and thought I'd ask some pros. Is there another CS3 product that might be better. I am more Familiar with After Effects but haven't used it for anything quite like this before.

Scrolling Window With Lag
There is a movie that I looked at here by "Patrick" called really smooth scroller that has a little bit of lag on the scroll which is what I need. However the movie uses dynamic text which doesn't allow a mask to be placed over it as far as I can tell to define the scrolled area.

You can change the text elements to "Static" and it shows with a mask but then it doesn't look as good when it scrolls for some reason.

Does anyone have a good script that does this or a solution?

Scrolling Window
Any pointers or pages of reference to research. I want to have a movie clip that works like a scolling window.

i.e. I specify the size of the movie clip but the movie I want displayed inside the mc is larger then the movie clip, so I want the user to be able to 'scroll' up an down. I presume this could be down with some trick with masking.

Scrolling Window
My project is almost done except for one last design issue.
I have my flash file setup at 750x400, the thing is I cant fit all my information into that small of an area. So I wanna add a scrollbar, but I cant get images to scroll with it, just text. Any ideas? Ive tried looking for a tutorial on it already but couldnt find any.

Scrolling Outside Of A Browser Window
Hi there - ive noticed that on this site http://lab.mathieu-badimon.com/ (referring to the scrollers at the edge of the screen) that if you click and drag and then move themouse outside of your browser window the scroll still works. The scroller that Im using (similar to this one http://www.anovadesign.com/ ) does not allow this and I dont know why

Scrolling Window, Should Be Easy...

I am trying to make a small window scroll. All I basically need is a window, with a down button and an up button and when you click each button it either scrolls a MC with thumbnails on it vertically up or down.

Loading Swf Into Scrolling Window
after first trying to bring formatted html text dynamically into a scrolling window in mx, i've given up (impossible?), i have now turned the text into its own swf and i am trying to dynamically load this into a scrolling window. how do i do this? the only solution i found is to make the scrolling window its own swf and load that in dynamically. this works except i can't figure out an 'if else' command to get rid of it once any other button is clicked.

I'm working on a scrollbar right now, and have it working quite nicely for scrolling a movie clip. But I began to wonder, which is better, scrolling a clip with text or scrolling the text itself?

Any thoughts on this flash community?

Personally, I like the fact that you can implement easing and get a smooth scroll by scrolling the clip, but then again, with the scroll wheel now available for the text scrolling, that's cool too.

Anyway, just curious on everyone's thoughts on this. Which do you like to see when you visit a site?

Loading An External .txt Into A Scrolling Window
I am trying to make a news section that my client can update with a .txt file. I have gone through the tutorial for scrolling (which is great) and it uses a .txt, but uses it to generate .html to place in the actionscripting. The second part of the tutorial says it will load an external file in it, but I couldn't seem to find it (did I overlook something?)
So...
1. I need to have a .txt file load automatically into a scrolling window without access the .fla. Is that possible?
2. I couldn't figure out how to have a link in the scrolling text. I checked the html option for the dynamic text, but...

I have also tried using a DHTML scroller, but it doesn't seem to have a way to load a .txt file, either. I am a novice when it comes to this programming stuff, if you haven't gathered! Thanks.

How To Make A Generic Scrolling Window?

well if not, they had a nice current events news thing i flash (among other things) that displayed text inside of a scrolling text box. It appeared as though they created a generic text window with a scroll bar that loaded on a new level(?) and then loaded the requested text. I have a little experience with flash 5 dynamic text box scrolling and loading from external text files but would like to know how it might be possible to create only 1 interface and load text into it.

so say for this script:

_root.text.scroll = Number(_root.text.scroll)+1;

the field 'text' contains the text. so how would the new text be loaded into 'text'?

Scrolling Movie Window Probs.
Movies scroll further than what I want e.g the window becomes blank due to there being no pictures.-scrolling too far to the left or right in the window

I have tried putting stop functions on the relevant frames in the movie,but it continues to scroll regardless.

If it helps the frame numbers for it to stop are 1 and the end is 115.

Any help would be appreciated.

Scrolling Window Messed Up When Resized
Allright I've got a background that goes from light blue to dark blue, bottom to top, and I have it move down in a motion tween to give the effect of a sunset, mk.

And I've also got a path along the bottom that moves left, both are bigger then my selected canvas size of 350x300, but when the image is resized you can see the parts of my symbols that are supposed to be off of the canvas... how can I fix this very tacky and annoying problem? please help

Share Your OOP+XML Scrolling Window Ideas
Maybe you won't if you have a very special way of doing scrolling windows that puts you a cut above the rest. For me, it's a drag every single time I've had to make one. (well, it's only 2 time so far) I HATE making scrolling windows from scratch. Scrolling windows I'm talking about here are like tables. They get populated with repeating entries (like, pic of item: name of item: price) with a scroll bar.

Basically, I'm looking for a good way to make scrolling windows that use XML for visual formatting (size, position, scrollbar goes there, make movieclip here, etc) and to generate all the appropriate movie clips. And then, I have another XML that has all the data in it. (path to pic, item name, item price, and so on) Plug them together somehow, and then add all the interactive controls (scroll bar, up and down scroll arrows, clickable items, etc).

Well, I guess it's sort of pointless for me to be blabbering about this since there's so much detail I can't simply write out.. I was just wondering if anyone's got a "this is the perfect way to do it" idea on scrolling tables.

I also need to figure out a way to disentangle my code from the project specific code so I can reuse it somehow.. I can't spend 2 days every time writing the scroller... and spend 1 day teakin'g it! arrrrghhhh!

Add Ease To A Horizontal Scrolling Window
Hi all

Used these forums for a while now as a 'lurker' and finally decided to register!

I've a small problem and wonder whether someone can help me out.

I'm by no means a coder, but can usually take a file (in this instance from Flash kit) and modify it to do what I need. I've created a horizontal scroller for a simple image gallery but I'd like to add 'ease' for a slicker finished product, unfortunately I've no idea where to begin!

Smart Clip Scrolling Window-actions?

I've been trying to figure out the actions to put on four separate buttons to pop up four separate scrolling windows. The windows are a smart clip, so I'm using clip parameters to load the different text in. Nothing seems to work. Either the window doesn't pop up on release or else each window has the same piece of text.
Any suggestions in Flash 5? I've been using Flash for almost a year, but still need tons of help and study.

Duplicate MC With Different Value For Dynamic Text Box

just a quickie

I have the following code and am duplicating a movieClip with the duplicateMovieClip command.

for (n=1; n<=11; n++) {
duplicateMovieClip (controller, "controller"+n, 1+n);
setProperty ("controller"+n, _x, 10*n);
setProperty ("controller"+n, _y, 20*n);
}

The movieClip "controller" has a dynamic text box that i want to repopulate every time the clip is duplicated, with a different string.

I am trying to create a menu system

So, say i want have all clips lined up underneath each other, i can set the x and y position of each duplicated clip no problem.

I want the dynamic text field of the original instance to read "Option 1", Option 2", "Option 3".....etc, for each corresponding instance

What would be the last line of the duplicate Movieclip command to acheive this, somethin like

display="Option" + n ?????

this does not apear to work

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried targeting the duplicated mc's from within the main timeline, by using a for loop, and it works, but I can't make the properties change progressivley (size and alpha change in one step in every mc at the same time, not slowly one after the other)...... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!

the user is typing into an input box,

i want the data they are typing into one box to automatically appear in another box beasie it? so it looks liek they are typing into 2 boxes at the same time! u get me?

Duplicate Dynamic Text (XML)
I am trying to create somenthing like this, I have mine MC with my dynamic text, I want that it only goes duplicating when I will be moving in the .xml file, looks at what I have so far, it it duplicates the MC and only it shows only 1 text from my .xml file.
