Flash :: Editing FLA File?

Editing A .swf File?
I purchased a template to save time & money, and it came with a generic flash animation in the upper left. I want to replace the 4 pictures they use with relevant ones for my company. The problem is that the author of the template password protected the flash so it can't be modified. It is a .swf file. Is there a way of converting it to .fla or is there a way I can edit it??? I have three .swf files that i need to edit ( the .fla files were lost, and i did not back them up ) All i need to change is a "geturl" command ..
is there a way to edit that???? Like a software i can download .. or a way of hacking the .swf file??

Again i lost the .fla file.. and all i need to change is a "geturl" command...

*and yes I did think of renaming the url to match the url the .swf file is calling (but I can't do that in this case.. trust me... )

Editing An Existing Swf File...

I just took over doing the company website (the current one can be seen at: http://itasca.ca) and includes a real cool flash menu at the side on certain pages (http://www.itasca.ca/civil.html) I have the SWF file and was able to use Flash Decompiler to extract it to a FLA file but now I get overwhelmed. I need to make a few changes... some URLs and to take out certain components as well. Our office doesn't deal with all the stuff that is listed in this menu... is there an easy way to do this? I could substitute the ones that are not applicable to our office... Here's is the site I have made up so far: http://fatedfoibles.ca/itasca/index.htm (and the menu - just a DHTML simple one - shows the items I would like to incorporate into the flash menu. Editing Stuff From Txt File.
There used to be a tutorial for this awhile back, but I can't find it anymore.

Anyone know how to make it where I can edit a txt file on the host and change it on the flash movie?

What I want to do is this:

There are eight boxes. When you go over any one, different content will appear in the middle. I want to be able to change the content of all eight boxes from an external txt file. Also, on each box there is a name; "Spelly", "Champ", "Xzibit", ect (these are all text). I want to be able to change these as well. The images themselves can stay as they are.

Plus, I am going to have other links (scenes) and I want to be able to change the content on those pages as well with txt file(s).

It'd be perfect if I could just have it all editable through one txt file, but multiple is fine.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Editing Code In A .mxp File, Can It Be Done?
Hi, im using Flash MX 2004.

I downloaded a free beta version of a Drag and Drop Component today, it came with a .mxp file, which i installed, and all seems to be working correctly.

The component makes use of a function called 'dragHandler', there is an example snippet of the code below.

dragHandler(objectToDrag, objectDroppedOn, false);

The function 'dragHandler' is however not contained in the component itself, I cannont find it but it must be somewhere because the component works.

In the Macromedia Extension manager, there is a short description of the component. ill copy and paste a piece of it for reference, as below.

add and adjust the code below to execute commands when your clip is droped.

[CS3] Editing An Image Within A .flv File
Hi all,

I have been asked to update an image inside an .flv file. The image has a simple bubbles rising animation attached to it, but I have been told by a company who sold the flash that the image can be changed quite easily, if done correctly!! Unfortunately, this is all they will tell me as they would like me to pay a large amount just to change an image.

Could someone please help me save lots of dollars :-). I have a basic understanding of flash, but that ends when I am dealing with .flv files. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Basically, what I have is a menu for a webpage with an image inside that menu, with a basic animation attached, I have got so far as actually changing the image, but I cannot seem to include it so the animation remains.

Editing A Flash File

I am a new comer when it comes to Flash. I paid for and downloaded the Tab Menu by AdrianTNT.com for use on my website being developed. I know how to edit the XML file to change colors and the size of the menu. The menu seems to work fine but I want to edit the file and create a new SWF file with a different font size and shape of navigation bar. I have Flash 8 but I need some tutorial type information so that I can make those changes to the menu.

Please help me out of this jam.

Display Variable From File WITHOUT EDITING IT
Hey,

I was wondering how (or if it's possible) to display a variable declared in a separate swf file. eg. I have a game with a highscore variable called _level0.punteggio and I wan't to display that variable in a different flash file. I don't want to have to edit the original flash file with the variable I want to display. You see, I can't legally edit a .swf file that isn't mine and that I don't have permission to edit (and can't get permission for). I need a way to create a flash file that will call that certain variable I told you about and be able to do something with the variable without editing the file that holds it. [F8] Having Trouble Editing Text From As File
I have attached the source files via download from my server. can anyone tell me what I am missing? As you can see when you mouse over the sun, there is text. I want to do that for each planet, but also make it so there are links in the text.

Can someone tell me how to go about doing this please? My head hurts lol

Tool For Editing FLV File Produced By FCS
We have a system in place using FCS 1.5 that produces FLV files. We use the netstream.send( ) function to embed urls that the player processes in order to synchronize content loading on the page as the video plays. I'm just now learning how all this works.

My problem is that the generated FLV file may need to be edited after the fact. We might want to trim the first 10 minutes or remove sections where there were technical problems with the presenter. I might want to change the timing of the embedded URL values as well.

Are there any commercial FLV file editors out there? Any open source code? I'd prefer not to write something from scratch, and even if I have to I need to understand the FLV file structure.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share. Thanks.

Flash 5 File Bugs When Editing With MX
I have a flash file that was created in 5 and works fine. The actionscript shows errors, however, when I attempt to edit it in MX and the output swf file doesn't work properly. It loops continuously. Console output shows "Expected a field name after '.' operator.
_root.nav_text_main.default = "C O N T A C T"; for every instance of my _root.nav_text in actionscript.
Any ideas or help? I would be happy to send the fla file for help.

Editing CODEBASE Url - Need V.6 Swflash.cab File
Not sure if this is the right forum for this but it's more flash-related than HTML i feel.

I have created a bunch of flash(v.6.65) apps for a client's website which they love and are getting great responses from their customers about. Except this company forgot to mention that all of the store locations don't have flash 6(most are flash 5 and some are even flash 4) and can't surf any site other than their own. This means that they can't just simply go to macromedia.com to update their flash player, and to further complicate the issue they don't want the latest player, they'd rather play it safe and use the Flash 6.65 Plugin.

So I've altered the CODEBASE attribute in the OBJECT tags of the HTML that holds my SWF's to point to a swflash.cab that I'm hosting on their server, but I've only been able to find a swflash.cab file that installs the Flash 7 Plugin. I need one that installs the Flash 6.65 plugin.

Does anyone know where I can get one?

Loading Different Ext. Jpgs By Editing Text File?
i need to control what jpg gets loaded by editing a txt file...

but how can i pass variables from a text file to change the value of "theimage"

i have tried a text file called "contents.txt"
with this on it :

theimage ="images/back1.jpg"
&variable=whatever

i have tried all kinds of ways .. any advice?

Editing A Fla File Trying To Remove A Button/link Please Help
Hi!

i I purchased a flash template a little while ago that I want to edit.
The template has too many links in it and I would like to remove one of them.

I am capable of editing the fla file in flash and know the basics of what to do even so much as using actionscipt
but being a novice i am stuck at how to remove one of the links.

I have tried to edit it using the free transform tool but this puts the following buttons out of place.

Here is a screen shot of the flash file now with all 6 buttons (I only want 5)

The RED BOX is the link/button i want to remove.

Here is what happens when i try to edit the buttons layer using the free transform tool.

As you can see by the red boxes the dividers are out of place and the buttons are messed up.
Also the green box highlights that the button is still there.
So obviously Im not doing it right. As I said.. Novice

I would be greatful if someone could maybe tell me or show me how to edit this flash file so I can remove the last button/link and only have 5 buttons perfectly aligned to blue box above it. (where the car is)

If someone knows how to do this and you think it is sooo easy to do (always is when you know how)
Then I would be happy to send them the .fla file to edit for me so they could send it back to me so I can save it as swf myself. That would be great!

Problem Editing Pre-made Flash File
I'll be the first person to admit that I am a complete retard when it comes to using flash related anything. Which is why I'm here.

I am unsure whether or not my problem is related to ignorance of the program or an error not on my part, so maybe someone out there can tell me.

A friend of mine purchased a flash layout (http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/5910.html) for her new website and wanted me to change the main logo and the menu buttons to fit her own. However when I open the file's by either right clicking>open with or by opening Flash itself and then importing, it completely loses the glint going across her blades and the background music shown in the link above.

I've done everything I can think of, but nothing seems to be preventing it from losing the music/graphic and having odd looping issues immediately upon just opening up the file.

I used the reccomended version of flash as stated on the website.

My friend really want's her layout up and running in flash. What am I doing wrong?

I appreciate any help that can be given!

Editing A 'Flash Menu Labs' File
I have grabbed the demo of Flash Menu Labs - which I must say is very impressive for a 'non-coder' like myself. I will be buying the product when the tax cheque comes in, but in the meantime, I'd like to use a flash menu I have created.

It (quite reasonably) does not allow links to be put into its code until you have purchased the software. I was wondering if there was a way I can do this manually so I can still use the menu? The publish command creates code for head and body, and also creates a menu.fml file (flash menu labs im assuming). How can I code in teh links manually?

Why Is Editing Flash MX File In 2004 Is Damn Slow?
I just purchased MX2004 recently and im trying to migrate some of my files over to it from the standard MX version. MY trouble is that whenever I edit something or double-click anything it takes about 10 seconds to respond - everything is just so slow!

Navigation Alignment In Published File (not Editing Environment)

I am tring to find a way to position a movie clip to always anchor the top of my published movie. I also want to lock the bottom navigation to the bottom. I am publishing my movie using the exact fit setting and 100 % Height and 100% width. The idea is the have both top and bottom navigation always sit on the top and bottom reguardless of the users screen resolution.

Making A Sound File Smaller Or Editing Sounds Outside Of Flash
I have a sound loop that I would like to use for a site and I would just like to use one small part of the loop. Currently the track is 57 seconds and I just want to use a small part or the loop like ten seconds worth for the FLA file. I know I can edit sound in Flash but it seems like it still loads the whole file and it would be tooo large. How do I edit sounds before I import them into Flash. What program would you recommend using.

Editing File Paths Writing To Disk, Adding Trace Statements
I'm using the below code to write images and other files to the user's hard drive with AIR. The problem is that it takes the whole path of the image, relative to where the image is initially (so if the image is in root/images/engligh) it writes on the user's hard drive to C:/images/english, and creates those folders. I've tried several ways of truncating the path, but that always causing the file to not be found.

Editing Text File For Dynamic Text - Easy Way?
I have a site I'm making for a client. There is a DYNAMIC text box that displays a current list of customers. This info is in a customers.txt file.

Sample content of this file:

Is there an EASY way for them to modify this content on their own? Any suggestions? They aren't very computer or HTML savvy.

"pause" In MP3-file After Editing/cutting ?

this might not be a question directly related to Flash/Actionscript, however I'm using these to create some MP3 loops...

When I edit MP3-files in something like Cool Edit 2000, I always have the problem that there is a little, tiny pause where it's silent in the beginning. The funny thing is that even if I cut out the pause and save it as a new MP3 - it's still there! When I do the editing with a .WAV-file, everything is fine...

I heard "rumors" that this is the usual case with MP3-files, meaning there's no way of cutting out this little pause in the beginning of a MP3-track - it's "added" automatically.

I need to edit my MP3s quite precisely in order to get it right for my flash-loops. Someone who had a similar issue or can tell me anything further??

[CS3] Editing Video In Flash Or In Video Editing Software First?
I am new to flash and just want to know what seems most logical in putting together some interactivity to my clients website. Described below is what she wants, and i'm wanting feedback as to whether all can be done in Flash or if I might need to combine different applications to create the final product.

She's a romance writer. She wants her website to have items from her book (like real images of an old western saddlebag, letter's, etc...) that when clicked upon, open up and reveal what's inside. So for example, user clicks on an image of an old western saddle bag and the bag opens up to reveal an old letter.
She wants real film/images from a real saddle bag from the local western museum. I'm thinking of tying a string to the saddlebag flap and videoing it opening to reveal the letter and then croping out everything besides the bag? If the video is 2 seconds.. that could be 30 frames to edit? or should i use something like Final Cut Pro to edit the 2-3 secs of video 1st (cropping out bag only) then import to flash? if anyone has any good ideas to get me started in the right direction, let me know! Thx so much.

Would Like Help With Editing
I have downloaded a movie and am trying to edit it. I am in movie explorer and the line I want to edit is:

actions for symbol 857
on (release){
_root.GotoAndStop(2);

When I click on the last line, the program opens to Object Actions, however the line does not appear. And when I click Basic Actions or anything, all the options like GoTo, Play and Stop are grayed out. Am I editing in the wrong place? Also all the layers are unlocked.

Editing A .SWF ?
Hey all,
Today started off very gloomy for me, and it seems it only gets worse and worse. I am not that fluent in flash so I downloaded a template from this site and edited it to suit my needs... (btw, I do not claim it is 100% mine).

Anyhow, here is the rest of the story. A while back I was forced to reformat my computer and I lost everything. The only part of my flash movie that I now have is a .swf of which I downloaded from my site... I don't need to change a whole lot in my movie, I just need to edit the text in some spots to bring it up to date.

Is there anyway I can edit my .swf ??? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I import a flash movie file for editing, I am losing all the linking imformation and sound. All I am trying to do is eliminate the text(the welcome message) from the movie. It can be see at http://www.skyemarsden.com/. Even when I import it into flash and resave it with another name without making any changes, it loses all the navigation info. I've tried publishing it but it makes no difference. What am I missing?

I have found a swf file and grabbed it down from a website. I have put the swf into flash, sadly loosing all the sound. How do import the swf file into a fla without loosing the sound? All it has is bitmaps and symbols, no buttons or sound.

I don't have the original fla file because the swf was taken from a website.

I am trying to get the sound from the swf for a novelty flash birthday card for a mate. I would be so grateful of any help.

Hi, Wonderful forum. Learning lots here. I am a newbie and trying to build my first flash intro. What I have is a logo that I want to either zap with lightning or a metal arc/spark to run around the circle of the logo, then will flip the logo, etc. I don't know how to add moving lightning to it though. I have found some lightning flashes that are fre eto use, but has other content in with the lightning that I don't want. Anyone have any pointers, been pulling my hair out for a week now... thanks

I'm a complete and utter newbie.

I've opened an swf in Swf Decompiler. I'd like to 'Export Resource', edit the actionscript, and then make it all into an swf again.

Erm, how on earth do I do this?

When I view the P-Code I can see the part that I want to change, but if I export it as a .fla, I can only read the source code in flash.

Need Some Help Editing This

I am trying to edit some text in a web page template. .fla file was not available so I used sothink swf decomplier to create .fla. After the conversion, I can edit it using flash 8.0, but the whole file got messed up. Example, the popups are playing automatically without mouse clicks. They are supposed to show when you click on text. Any idea why this happened? I am not an expert in flash and I am trying to edit a document someone else made. Please help.
