Flash :: Editing A .swf?

[CS3] Editing Video In Flash Or In Video Editing Software First?
I am new to flash and just want to know what seems most logical in putting together some interactivity to my clients website. Described below is what she wants, and i'm wanting feedback as to whether all can be done in Flash or if I might need to combine different applications to create the final product.

She's a romance writer. She wants her website to have items from her book (like real images of an old western saddlebag, letter's, etc...) that when clicked upon, open up and reveal what's inside. So for example, user clicks on an image of an old western saddle bag and the bag opens up to reveal an old letter.
She wants real film/images from a real saddle bag from the local western museum. I'm thinking of tying a string to the saddlebag flap and videoing it opening to reveal the letter and then croping out everything besides the bag? If the video is 2 seconds.. that could be 30 frames to edit? or should i use something like Final Cut Pro to edit the 2-3 secs of video 1st (cropping out bag only) then import to flash? if anyone has any good ideas to get me started in the right direction, let me know! Thx so much.

Would Like Help With Editing
I have downloaded a movie and am trying to edit it. I am in movie explorer and the line I want to edit is:

actions for symbol 857
on (release){
_root.GotoAndStop(2);

When I click on the last line, the program opens to Object Actions, however the line does not appear. And when I click Basic Actions or anything, all the options like GoTo, Play and Stop are grayed out. Am I editing in the wrong place? Also all the layers are unlocked.
Any help would be appreciated

Editing A .SWF ?
Hey all,
Today started off very gloomy for me, and it seems it only gets worse and worse. I am not that fluent in flash so I downloaded a template from this site and edited it to suit my needs... (btw, I do not claim it is 100% mine).

Anyhow, here is the rest of the story. A while back I was forced to reformat my computer and I lost everything. The only part of my flash movie that I now have is a .swf of which I downloaded from my site... I don't need to change a whole lot in my movie, I just need to edit the text in some spots to bring it up to date.

Is there anyway I can edit my .swf ??? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Editing
When I import a flash movie file for editing, I am losing all the linking imformation and sound. All I am trying to do is eliminate the text(the welcome message) from the movie. It can be see at http://www.skyemarsden.com/. Even when I import it into flash and resave it with another name without making any changes, it loses all the navigation info. I've tried publishing it but it makes no difference. What am I missing?

Help With Editing A Swf In A Fla
Hi,

I have found a swf file and grabbed it down from a website. I have put the swf into flash, sadly loosing all the sound. How do import the swf file into a fla without loosing the sound? All it has is bitmaps and symbols, no buttons or sound.

I don't have the original fla file because the swf was taken from a website.

I am trying to get the sound from the swf for a novelty flash birthday card for a mate. I would be so grateful of any help.

Hi, Wonderful forum. Learning lots here. I am a newbie and trying to build my first flash intro. What I have is a logo that I want to either zap with lightning or a metal arc/spark to run around the circle of the logo, then will flip the logo, etc. I don't know how to add moving lightning to it though. I have found some lightning flashes that are fre eto use, but has other content in with the lightning that I don't want. Anyone have any pointers, been pulling my hair out for a week now... thanks

i was given a flash site by a friend , but i need to edit the txt to suit my needs , but i dont have the fonts that was used to create the original txt, im using adobe flash cs3 and it wont let me edit the txt because i havent got the font installed!!

Editing An SWF...
I'm a complete and utter newbie.

I've opened an swf in Swf Decompiler. I'd like to 'Export Resource', edit the actionscript, and then make it all into an swf again.

Erm, how on earth do I do this?

When I view the P-Code I can see the part that I want to change, but if I export it as a .fla, I can only read the source code in flash.

Need Some Help Editing This

this code loads a movie clip depending on the day of the week wich is exactly what i need. Does anyone know if it can be edited to load the files from a web server or even a diffrent directory instead of its local directory?

It is the one called Free Flash Intro. Well i downloaded it installed all the fonts and stuff. I open it up through flash but i don't know how to change the stuff. Like where it says Company name here i don't know how to change it to say whatever i want does anyone know what I'm doing wrong.

I am trying to edit some text in a web page template. .fla file was not available so I used sothink swf decomplier to create .fla. After the conversion, I can edit it using flash 8.0, but the whole file got messed up. Example, the popups are playing automatically without mouse clicks. They are supposed to show when you click on text. Any idea why this happened? I am not an expert in flash and I am trying to edit a document someone else made. Please help.

Ok, I am new at this Flash thing, but have figured out how to edit text. I can do it just fine and when I preview it in the .fla file it works just great. However, when I view it as a movie in .fla format, the text is invisable. Its there, you just can't see it. I know its there because any hyperlink or email links in the text will work if you click where they are supposed to be. Please help!

I have been trying to figure out how to edit a FLV. I do not have the original source so there goes that idea. I was told by Adobe support that I could buy a capture card (TV tuner). I did this and the capture card will not read/capture video from another computer. I am hoping to find a capture card that will capture FLV video from another computer or a software program that will convert FLV to a wmv. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Hey everyone,

I seem to have run into a problem where I cannot find a program that will edit .flv files directly. I have several that I would like to use that I have taken off of YouTube, and I would think converting them to avi then back to .flv just to edit it would lose a good amount of the already mild quality.

i am new to flash i need help please i am trying to have different mc's with small video clips in it

on stage and have this different mc's to play by dragging each one of these mc's in to

a "tv" with controls play, stop, pause, etc, to view each one of this mc's then after previewing each clip

i want to drag them into a editable time line and have this timeline with the different mc's play the mc's in a sequence

like editng your own version.. can some one please help me i will really appreciate it thanks in advance.....

hey guys was wondering if someone could help me out. have managed to create an MC and duplicate it. using all the random stuff to make it funky and all, but i am stuck.

here is what i want to do.

1. i have a MC with a letter in it which follows a path
2. I want to be able to dynamically change that letter by selecting from a sentence.

i khow the use of substring to get the exact word i want, but i don't know how to change the letter in the Origiinal MC. anybody know. i would appreciate. thanks

Image Editing?
How do I edit an image?. What my situation is, is I have a picture with a few white specs that I dont want on it. When I import it into the movie the white specs on the image show up and ruin the effect I ant to make. How do I get rid of these white specs? I want to edit the image in flash because all I need to do is put black over top of the white specs. Thanks

I know that this is probably a very stupid question, but I have downloaded a .fla file, and opened it in flash. It says on the website to 'edit the source' (eg. I want to change the names on the menu buttons) - how do I do this. I have played around with the file but can't find an editable 'source' as such - where is this, and what do I do?

Is there another way to change the fill color and outline of a symbol besides using the effects panel? It seems awefully difficult to change the color using RGB numbers, and changing the gradient fill of an instance using Effects panel is also not very intuitive to me. Thanks much.

Hello, I have a form which pulls in data for a person through dynamic textfields located in a movie clip. I would like to click the edit button in this movie clip to edit any of the fields in the form. How do I go from viewing the data to editing it, like the flashkit message board? Do I have one movie clip for the viewing of the data and another movie clip for editing the data? How do I get the data into the input textfields for editing? Thanks

When I use the text tool, the default background color of the text area I create is white, however, the font color I wish to use is very light. Is there are way to make the text area background a darker color? Globally?

Editing A Letter
I have created a flash that helps write apology letters. It is at http://reteaming.com/responsibility

You type in answers to questions and using your answer the program designes the letter for you. It's all quite straght forward, mostly input text, set variable, and print. Now I would like to give the user the option of editing the letter before he prints it but I haven't got the faintest idea of how to do that. I need an input field with the text of the letter (I have it as one variable) there already waiting to be edited and to be saved before printing.
Any ideas?

Editing A .swf File?
I purchased a template to save time & money, and it came with a generic flash animation in the upper left. I want to replace the 4 pictures they use with relevant ones for my company. The problem is that the author of the template password protected the flash so it can't be modified. It is a .swf file. Is there a way of converting it to .fla or is there a way I can edit it??? Editing In Flash Mx
Have just moved to Flash MX from flash 5 and finding it a big change.
Few annoying things to note, why cant I select some frames, press delete and then they are gone? Why cant I lengthen or shorten the number of frames an object runs for by dragging the keyframe?
Argh :/
Oh well, Flash MX has some great scripting improvements which make life much easier so thats all good.

I was wondering, is there a hotkey to remove frames? having to right mouse click everytime, and select 'Remove Frames' all the time is a bit more time consuming than just pressing the delete button.

I know u can press F5 to insert blank frames, but what above remove?

Editing Problems
I just bought this digital cam (EZ mega cam) and i took a picture of my house then downloaded it to my computer. I then copy/paste the picture and place it in my flash 5. I made it a symbol and now that i'm gonna edit it, it doesn't work. Every time i color it, or erase it or draw in it, the changes i made go at the back. why is this happening? I know it's not that big a problem since i can edit the picture using mspaint if i need to, but i wan't to understand my flash 5.

Gradient Editing
When making a linear gradient, how do I delete a marker? Markers are the points of color change. I know how to add them, but how do you delete them?

Editing Different Instances
Hi!

I have created different instances of a movie clip, and for some instance, I would like to edit the color of only a certain portion of the clip, hence, can't use tint for it. However, when I use "Edit" on the instance, it is actually editing the original clip. Is there a way to go about changing the color of a certain object in an instance without changing the original clip, or do I have to create different mcs for different colours?

I've been using HTML for a few years and I am making my first web site in flash. I have each page of the site on a different scene. When I want to edit the layout of the site, do I have to go through every scene and change it or is there a way I can change the layout on all the scenes once?

Can someone tell me if I can edit actionscripts in SWF Decompiler?
I cannot find the commands the scripts with flash MX which I did find with Decompiler.Now I want to edit these commands but Decompiler doesn't allow me to.

Help With Script Editing
I have duplicated a movie clip of a dynamic text scroll and edited in new text for the second scroller, so there are two scroller movie clips in my main movie, the trouble is only one scroller works. I think the tell target or some of the actionscript is conflicting but am not really sure what to change. I did try changing the names in the script but when I publish the movie the targets cannot be found.

i have just discovered the scrollpane. It works great, but it has a white background by default and an outline around the pane. How can I get rid of these, I want a transparent background (or at least orange) and no outline.

Sound Editing
I've tried following the Tutorial provided on the website, but it's really not getting me anywhere.

I want to attach this sound (instance name "Berceus") to the first frame of a scene. I want this sound to play as soon as the frame starts.
I need it done via actionscript, because I want the music to be alterable by the user later.

This is what I have so far:

Yes, I have defined the name "Berceus1" in the linkage.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Editing After Create
In my file I need to be able to edit the boxes even after they have created everything... the main question is... I have enabled the user to change the colors after create... but I want to enable them to also change the 4", 3", 2", 1" to any one of them... after created... if you take a look at my movie... type in 5x5 and hit create... then if you click on a box it enables you to custom the color but I want to beable to change the number too...
