Adobe 'fixes' For Flash And Dreamweaver
According to what I've been reading, Adobe added fixes to Dreamweaver 8.02 to deal with the Active Content problem created by Microsoft when Flash animations are embedded in web pages. Since I have an earlier version of Dreamweaver and Flash and am having problems like everyone else with that issue, would some 8.02 user kindly inform me if this is indeed the case, and what does one do in the new version to ensure Flash active content runs as intended? Is it something that one must still manually add to the code in an .html file, is the correction added automatically, is there an icon to press....just how is the new feature/fix used and incorporated? I'd like to know before considering an update. Thank you..............frank

Adobe Bridge Buttons In Dreamweaver, Flash, And Fireworks?
Hello,

Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I missing it, or is this a glitch?

Embedding Flash In Dreamweaver MX
I have created a Flash movie using Flash MX and exported it as a swf. This swf is embedded in a Dreamweaver MX document. In DW I have also created drop down menus across a top horizontal navigation bar. At the moment the flash content is in front of the drop down menus so only half the menu is visible. Is there any way I can tell the drop down menus to appear in front of the flash movie?

We have a website that was designed by another person, who used templates to design the website. Now the templates thing we figured out but the problem is that whenever we try and put a .swf file in it shows this:

I am lost with my uploading. I read many things around but all differents. may'be sbdy can enlight me ?
My site is all in flash 8. I just have a html page with my logo and description of the company. From there there is a ENTER and the viewer is supposed to open my home page which is a flash file. Home page has a menu which leads to the rest of my swfs.
Several questions :
1/ How do I configurate my html page to give the ENTER the path to the home page ? Do I link it to the swf via the hyperlink command ?
2/ The home page swf needs to be converted to a HTML file ? or can I just link to the swf file ?
3/ Do I need to convert all my swf to HTML ?
4/ Do I need to create a blank HTML page for each swf ?
5/ Do I need to upload all swfs or sfs HTML to my server ?

Many many questions...as you see I am totally lost.

In DW CS3, how can I add a flash video to play on the loading of the page?

I've gone to insert flash media but on page load nothing plays. I have Flash installed (the plugin) and I can browse to flash sites so I'm stumped. The code produced is fine:

First off.....I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section. Sorry.

I've been using GoLive for several years now and have considered trying out Dreamweaver. Which is better to use and how easy of a transition would you assume it to be?

Embedding Video From Adobe Premiere
hi - i want to incorporate some video into a flash presentation for a CD, but i'm getting confused somewhere, any tips would be hugely appreciated!

the video was initially a huge file (180 Mb), so colleague has compressed it in adobe Premiere and exported it as a WMV file which is now 23 Mb. when i imported this file into the library of my .fla (i'm using MX 2004) it seemed to take ages, so i looked at the 'properties', and the file size had increased to 60 Mb...

is that normal (!) or is there something i forgot to do? or, is there something incompatible between Premiere and Flash which affects the compression??

(nb is embedding the video actually the best way to go? the only reason i did it was because i was playing with a tutorial which loaded video into a flash-based 'video player'..)

Dreamweaver Embedding Question
My question is as follows:

I have my flash movie created and have embedded it onto an HTML page. I would like to add a background to the page that has a layer that I want to always remain positioned in middle alignment. My intention is to have it shift as my embedded swf does to the middle of the browser window. For some reason I just can't seem to find an option that works for this as a layer. I would even be happy to know how to add a colored border around the swf, because this essentially is what I'm attempting to accomplish. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Embedding A Swf Into An Html Page With Dreamweaver.

I haven't used flash in a little while and on the CS3 version now.
I have noticed some changes with past sites with changing upgrades with browsers. I was just wondering if there is a clean simple solution to have a swf file embedded into an html page without the IE "box", and the ability to prompt for the flash install if the viewer doesn't have it.... And most importantly I am presently just trying to insert a simple text effect and It won't play?

At his moment I am using dreamweaver to insert the swf file ( the very simple text effect ) to an html based site.

Insert > media> then flash >

I have made sure that this extra file is included in the site folder "AC_RunActiveContent".... I am at a bit of a loss, are there new tricks I should have up my sleeve to enable this to work??

I am working on a project to put paper catalog (eg, like a jcrew catalog) online and enable interactive features such as turn-page, zoom, rotate, and click to shop.

I am evaluating whether to use Adobe Flash or Adobe Flex, and appreciate any advice from this forum on:

1. What are the differences between Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex that are important to consider?

2. Is it faster to develop using Adobe Flex than Flash?

3. Which technology produces better performance? Most online catalogs I've seen have been kind of slow: they take time to load the page and then take time to sharpen images. Any suggestions on how maybe through buffering/caching to improve the performance? how much is the performance limited by network bandwidth given the size and number of images on a catalog page?

First, allow me to complement you all on a great forum and site, clearly one of the most informative sights I have ever been on about anything.

I am a amateur website developer, a hobby of mine and I would like to take it to the next level. I am fairly proficient in Microsoft Frontpage, but I would like to add more sophisticataed components. Thus, my interest in flash. I have a few questions below I hope someone will answer

I took a look at the free downloads, I assume the "flash player" allows one to view flash animation on a website, does the "flash producer" allow you to create flash animation etc?

Is there a free trial version for the $699 Macromedia Flash Pro 8? Is that the "flash producer?"

How does Flash relate to Dreamweaver?

What are some good books that a novice cold read to get a better idea of how to use flash (particularly with Microsoft Frontpage)?

I saw a flash site, it was a photogrpahy site, it was absolutely beautiful...one of the interesting things was that the slide show of photos, you know when you right click on a photo and it says "save photo as", well on this site the right-click menu had no such option. As a amatuer photographer, I would like such a capability on my site. Is there ay easy way to do this with Flash by embedding the images?

A little help would be grand.

I have created a form for users of my site to send me some feedback and contact details. Problem is when u go to this page in my flash site, it allows you to send blank messages without having to type anything in the fields.

I have coded it so it wont continue if the fields are left blank but for some reason it still does it:

I wanted to use a wink on msn and was told i'd have to have the latest flash player, I went to the site to D/load the player, but when I click the gold bar and to install active X its not D/loading. What could be the problem? is it my computer or wat, and what may I do to resolve? HELP!!!

I have uninstalled previous versions of the flash player and installed the newest version but it does not work. When I'm on websites that requires flash it states that I need to install flash player. In the control program-add/remove programs it shows that it's installed however it does not show up in the start-program files. Can anyone help? This is really annoying. It was working fine and then quit. I am on Windows XP IE6 (7 won't download either! LOL). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If This Isn't An Adobe Flash Bug, What Is It?
I have checked the machine for viruses (Microsoft and HouseCall); I checked and replaced faulty RAM; there is no other problem with Firefox, but It will just not handle Flex/Flash pages without a hard crash, so I managed to make this reproducible:
a) create new profile
b) leave profile unmodified
c) open Firefox in the profile creation session with new profile (has to be done twice for some reason)
d) go to http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/inproduct/sdk/dashboard/dashboard.html
e) it executes properly;
now:
a) close firefox
b) reopen using the identical (unmodified) new profile
c) going to the same link (or any other Flash-Flex link) it crashes with something like "memory 0x000000 referenced address 0x000000"

This occurs with Windows 2003 SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Opera; however I think it may also apply to as far back as 1.5 and Windows 2003 without SP's. It wasn't until SP2 that I tried the above. I have the latest Flash plugin installed (9.0.28.0)
Also, I deinstalled flash, rebooted and reinstalled (as per Adobe help pages).
I can make Microsoft .hdmp files available - when I reboot I get one per browser crash.

MP3 BUG In Adobe Flash
Does anyone know when Adobe is going to fix the BUG in Flash that requires MP3s to be encoded at sample rates that are multiples of 11.025kHz? Everyone seems to be posting workarounds, but when is Adobe going to finally fix this BUG so that any MP3 file or MP3 stream will play without "chipmunking" or "s--l--o--w" playback? All of the other major media players, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc., can play any MP3 properly, why can't Flash? Are the Adobe programmers not smart enough to fix this BUG or is Adobe too stubborn to address this BUG?

So Flash CS3 is out.

I hope Adobe didn't screw up with flash.
The interface seems pretty much the same, with minor changes. When i first entered flash I noticed that the famous flash "f" icon was changed into Fl which really sucks. When you open up flash , it allows you to create a new document using AS3 or using AS2. That's cool because you can use flash with the old AS2 until you get used to AS3.

Importing PSD's and mantaining Layers and Stuff and converting Animations to AS3 are the coolest new features available in Flash CS3.

Run An Adobe PDF From Flash
I have created a front end on my CD-ROM using flash. It runs two executables using the fscommand. My problem is that I also want to view a PDF by selectig a button in Flash. It can run either in flash or having adbobe acrobat reader pop up. I'm not picky. Is there an easy way to do this because I haven't managed to figure it out. Thanks for any help you can give me.

hello i'm a new flash user...when i learn flash 8 the adobe company released the adobe flash with action script 3...so do i have to learn and use the AS3 or i can still use the AS2 ? for how long is the action script 2 can be use...?? im affraid if the AS that i used is not going to be updated or use again...like an old script that is not compatible...thx...

Les's article in Layermagazine was great. keep em coing as adobe dont let you find out what products to use for what project end result. When to use AE and flash, when to use PRemeier pro, Elements, Go lvie, dreamweawver. Why not post a marix of overlap and what does what. I want simple text wrapping. Can I use Illustrator or can INdesign do the same. ?

I read elements 5 has stuff for ps2 and premier Pro. Ok what does it do, Do i need it. Can AE do a flash output diretly to a web site or must I export to Flash as in the Layers magazine article. What does this do for me . other than get it to web; ? But then why can't AE do this as an export to Flash or xx.
When to use AE to Flash vs audion and encore ?
Does Dreamweaver do it the same or can forget about months of learning that ?

The article was very good; but I see not knowing much; why export back to Flash 8. ? Is this for dvd, web or home viewing. Can't I see the final product in AE ? or is flash a stipped down export like a run time version to be shown on a web page. .

Adobe CS4 And Adobe Bordeaux
If anyone can confirm this we appreciate. It seems that after Thermo, Adobe is preparing to release a new Product, the Adobe Bordeaux. This tool will allow you to create flash content easily without knowing ActionScript or programming. It is pointed to graphic designers, art directors and creative directors.

I believe this is a great move by Adobe.

I created a small Flash title sequence, exported it into AVI format, and tried importing it into Adobe Premiere... The result: after the video was exported, the colors and quality decreased so much it makes me embarassed to present it. I've tried keeping the same FPS, keeping the same dimensions, and not compressing the avi file and still nothing seems to help... Can Flash be successfully used in a video-editing program such as Premiere? Any ideas guys?

Adobe Illustrator To Flash
I am making images in Illustrator, but then when I want to copy them over to Flash, the line thickness of the images are distorted and if I save it as a .jpg or .gif, it has a white space surrounding the image. Any way to get the image over to Flash without losing any content or quality?

I have an Adobe Illustrator image that I need to get into Flash. The problem is that if I export the image into an .swf file, the image becomes pixelated close up. I exported it with the highest settings and it still doesnt work nicely. Is there anything else I can do to get the image into flash nicely?

is there any certification guide available for flash 8? previously there was seperate exams for designer and developer now i believe it's combined to a single exam where both developing and designing skills will be tested. I'm completely unaware how my preperations should be and also i don't find any details about the minimum scores to get certified.the preperation guide pdf availabe in the site just gives an outline about the exam which will not be helpful.so kindly let me know some information about this and isd there anyone who have attempted this test?

I am computer illiterate and I I am taking an online college class that requires adobe flash to run the lab simulation. I have followed all of the online suggestions and still it doesn't work and no one at the telephone support office knows how (or are not willing!) to help me!!!!

IE7 And Adobe Flash Player
I installed IE7 to my machine and now I cannot get to flash sites, I uninstalled and reinstalled both IE7 and all my adobe products. The problem was still occuring. I uninstalled and reinstalled using clean boot, safe mode, check everything out in the registry. I ran Spybot/lavasoft/AVG/smitfraud...my system is clean. I uninstalled all the product on my system that could be harmful...Firefox....Kazaa...all game related sites. Now when I try and get to flash site my IE6 now freezes the same problem occurs with Firefox and MSN explorer. The CLT+ALT+DEL doesnt come up. I talked to a microsoft IE7XP Tier 2 support agent, and there was at least 8 hours of troubleshooting to try and fix this issue. He even spoke to people who supported Adobe products. Currently I feel left out to dry is there any help for me. Anything who be great to here because I need flash player functional for my schoolusiness work. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

This is a joke. There has been no response on this issue. I had no idea about the trouble and am not looking forward to spending a morning trying to get an older version to work. The player worked fine, I saw an update, updated and now it's broken. I've tried for about 90 minutes to uninstall and use an older version to no avail. This wasn't an issue under Macromedia.
