Exporting Gifs And There Quality...

Hi when exporting gifs why is it that they are always of terrible quality? Either static or animated i just cant seem to get them of any sort of quality.

I usually have to screenshot and save in photoshop, flash must be capable of saving a gif properly?
Even simple banners etc i have to save as swf because gif wont work, its insane.

Any suggestions?

Exporting Gifs On The Fly
This may be a tall order. Is there any way to have a flash movie export an image file on the fly, i.e. from the flash player, not the flash authoring program? I want people to be able to take snapshots of what appears in the player and, ultimately, allow them to email the images. Is this impossible?

Quality Of Animated GIFs
Is there anyway to increase the quality of animated GIF's that are exported from Flash? As of now, they come out very grainy. However, I would like to use the transitions that Flash is capable of but it has to be in GIF format. (This is a banner ad that will be submitted to a site that does not accept .swf)

Thanks!

Having Issues With Quality Settings And GIFs
First off, thank you to everyone who has helped me get this far.

The attached image shows the same XML photogallery, but at two different Quality settings. For some reason, at the setting of "High" my Imported GIF Files (with Allow Smoothing turned off, and placed on whole integer values), the GIFs/Buttons look crappy. As soon as the Quality setting is changed to "Low" the buttons look perfect.

Here-in lies the problem: I have tried to make some control buttons that will fast forward, go back and pause the animation and transition. Anytime I import these buttons, whether they are PNGs, GIFs or JPG's they look absolutely terrible. Obviously this is happening because the Quality setting is "Low," but it seems even if I change it to "High" that I am still not getting the exact image that I created in photoshop.

If more screen shots are needed, please let me know. I can attached an image of what the control buttons are supposed to look like as well if that helps (because its not either of the ones in this screen shot)?

Thanks in advance,

jason

Making Banner Ads In Flash - Exporting Animated Gifs
I have been trying to make an animated banner in flash to be exported as a gif, whenever I do, the quality is awful. I thought at first it was because I had too much going on i.e. too many gradients/colours etc, but as a test I drew a grey circle on white, exported that (256 colours, smooth selected) and even this does not have a smooth edge.

can anyone offer any ideas why flash is not capable of exporting a decent gif??

thanks

I am Using Flash CS3 v9. And using "Test Movie" it looks great. However, when I export it, it looks like crap, even just using flash player 9.

I wanted to use Flash Player 7, and that outputted bad quality, so I did the same thing on Flash 9, and it still looked bad.

The result: http://bezdredge.net/site.swf

How would I fix this?

Bad Quality When Exporting
Hey guys,

I've been having a pretty odd problem with one of my Flash movies.

I've got a few graphic objects in my movie, converted from imported PNG-24's. All settings are at PNG/lossless, with no smoothing. The JPG export quality is at 100.

Now, when I export, it's either the images are distorted by a few pixels, or horribly blurry -- it's a bit hard to tell which one, exactly.

The movie looks fine on the stage, but as soon as it's published, the quality is horrible.

The quality of the Flash is at 'Best', and all elements are placed on whole-number pixels.

Anything I might have missed here? I've tried everything I can think of, and everything's still blurry.

Thanks,

Alex

Bad Image Quality When Exporting
did a letter image in Photoshop and saved it as PNG format.

I created a new movieclip in Flash and dragged in the image to animate so that on the main stage the image will remain animated.

Basically is just a simple rotation to the left and right giving the feeling of the letter is swaying.

I published the swf and it seems that the letter image when it sways to the sides give bad quality as i can see the jagged edges.

I tried to set export jpeg quality to 100% and the bitmap properties to lossless but to no avail.

The only way i see it smooth is when in the main stage, I do not add the frames for the movieclip. Meaning to say the movieclip will remain at 1 frame and i export movie the quality is good, but when i put in more frames for the movieclip in the main stage, say 60 frames, the jagged edges can be seen again.

I attached the .fla file hope somebody can tell me how I can achieve a better quality. Thanks!

"Low Quality" Distorting My GIFs.
I'm trying to get into flash development by coding a platform game. Anyway, I'm having trouble with the sprites I've made for the game. I want it to be an old-school type platform game, so I made a couple of GIFs for tiles and one for the main character. Then in flash, I blow them up to 200% so they look a lil pixelly...which is what I want. I also set my movie on 'Low Quality' so that i don't get any smoothing. BUT, when I render my movie in Internet Explorer, I get some weird distortion. Just slight distortion. Like, for each tile, Flash will double up on the first top row of pixels, and then squish the bottom two rows of pixels. In other words, it doesn't show the GIF pixel-by-pixel as I have drawn it...and this is important...i dont want my GIFs to be squished. I could provide images if need be. But I'm hoping there is a solution to this...I've even tried making a 200% GIF and not resizing it on flash, thinking Flash's resize wasn't perfect, but even showing a GIF without changing ANYTHING about it still flattened it just slightly in Low quality.

Thanks for your help,
Keith

Image Quality Lost, Exported At 100% JPEG Quality
I am working on a Flash website for a design group to display their work. These designs needed to be scaled down to fit the format of the website and many of these designs have body copy with small text. In the FLA file they look ok, but when I export the SWF, the text looks really bad.I know JPEG compression isn't very good for text but even when I export at 100% JPEG quality it still ends up looking different. The text looks very "sparkly" with the thins of the letters have been lost. The original assets that they gave me were all in one photoshop file at 150dpi with one design per layer and some of the text were just slightly pixelated if you zoom in (all text were rasterized and flattened into the designs). Some of the same images supposedly from that file had been used on their previous site with no problem. On some of the images in the PSD I can see that some of the thin strokes in the letters had been lost a little from scaling the designs down. This has been really frustrating and I can't think of how to rememdy this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

-Sorry I did not realize that someone had already asked the smae type of question. I am trying the suggestions from the other thread.

<param Name=quality Value=low> Plays High Quality Flash
I want to adjust some flash content on my site depending on user rights.
The systems shows a slide show with swf/images, if the user is logged in he will also see a list of thumbnails with all flashes that is going to appear in the sideshow. This list is contained within XHTML markup and has nothing to do with the slide show other than containing the individual slides.

It would be nice if I could set the quality for the swf's in the thumbnails to low since 10-20 high res flashes tend to use a lot of CPU. Using <param name=quality value=low /> to achieve this has so fare granted no success.

Things I've tried so far are:

1. Setting <param name="quality" value="low" /> for the individual flashes in the thumbnail list. The flashes are still displayed in high res. Tried using " ' and no hyphens.
2. Sending the flash var _quality=low through the src of the thumbnail list elements. <param name="movie" value="/src/flash/movie.swf?_quality=low" /> with and without hyphens.
3. Googling quality settings for flash which all say to use <param name="quality" value="low" />

Things to point out:
1. I have no control over the swf. These come from all sort of people so I need to be able to adjust the quality via the web page.
2. I've tried different ways of writing the quality strings. value='low' value="low" value=low and so on.
3. The quality settings change if i right click and select quality -> low but they always start at high.
4. The source code writes what I expect it to, the flash simply ignores the values I send it.
5. I'm using a windows based machine with Fire Fox 2 and CS2, the site uses XHTML and my flash player is 9,0,124,0

Animated Gifs
Hi!

I created a little animation in Flash and I would like to make it an animated gif. I went to the tutorials section and found the following:

1. Create any animation you like in flash
2. Goto 'File' 'Save as'
3. A Save As dialog box will appear. Now click on the drop down menu next to the word 'Save as type' and select 'Animated gif'
4. Press the 'save' button.

Now, my problem is...when I go to 'File' 'Save As', my only options are to save it as an FLA for MX or 5.

Why would this be?

Thanks!
