Fixed Width
Anyone know how to create and set a rectangle to be a fixed width so that when scaled and tweened it will remain at a fixed width?

Any examples of tweening lines would greatly be appreciated

Fixed Width Or 100%
Hi, I've recently got hold of a template which I've succesfully managed to modify. I have an html page which loads the falsh movie. Currently it has a fixed width and height and I know on certain PC's such as laptops, the flash movie doesn't fit on the page. I know that I'm able to change this to 100% on each. I'm just wondering if there is any issue with this?

Fixed Width And Height?
I have a movie "product" inside a movie "contProduct". Now I increase the width and height as well as the _x and _y of the "product" movie. But I want the "contProduct" movie to stay the same size so that the "product" movie can grow without growing over the whole swf.

Can this be done??

Futurist Fixed Width
I have a problem.

I want to use the above font.

The thing is when I tested my flash site on someone else's system. The font was different.

I presume this is because I hadn't embedded the font.

I did this, and now the text is blurry.

Background 100% / Content Fixed Width?
Hi,

Does anyone know how this is done? In the HTML the flash file is set to a width of 100% but the content doesn't resizes. It's great for dragging stuff around cause you have the complete browser window.

I've been trying this with 'System.capabilities.screenResolutionX' but that didn't worked out to well.

Any help would be great!

SWF Width Resizing But Keeping Mc Fixed
Hi,

Using Flash MX 2004 & v8.0

I've been on here before, but lost all my details...

The problem I'm having is I've got a mc with a background - I need to be able to resize the compiled swf file in width only. The main mc needs to be fixed to the left side of the swf, and with the background only stretching.

What happends is this.. If I export the file as it is, and try to resize the width using HTML or js, the whole swf distorts. I've seen this done on a few swfs on the net, obviously it uses some actionscript to accomplish this task.

Any ideas would be welcome... I've looked in many resources but to no avail.

Fixed Width Accordian Style Menu...HELP
Greetings,

this is my first posting here on kirupa.com although I have found it to be an invaluable resource for my growth as a Flash designer, and am indebtted to the whole community for their spirit and willingness to share knowledge.

So here is my quandry; I am attempting to develop a fixed width menu consisting of 8 horizontally aligned, evenly sized buttons (actually MC's at this point). Each button is a black and white image slice that ,upon rollover, I want to fade into color and then expand to it's full size, while at the same time the other buttons shrink in relation to the fixed width of the movie and the growth of the "on" button.

So far I have been able to come up with the trasitions for the individual buttons, but have not been able to connect them in this cause/effect relationship.

I have had some help with getting set in the right direction with actionscripting, eg. "get width", "get x", and "grow/shrink", but as of yet have been unable to tie all of the threads together.

I feel like this is a lot to ask for but would greatly appreciate and help available be, it tutorials or any other means to learn this technique.

Flash Menu - Using Fixed Width And Scrollbars
hi - our company has built a site for a childrens furniture company (baby2teenfurniture.com ) and we're having trouble getting the links to act the way we want in all of the "reasonably used" browsers, that is, the browsers that are still used by more than 1 person in the world.

if you go to the site, we have a quicksearch menu (flash) and when you click on it, and then click on type of furniture, we want it to be a NEW fixed width (300 px) window that comes up. and then people would scroll down to see all of the different brands of that type of furniture.

we work on macs with ie 5.1 and it worked great! but then the client inquired as to why she couldn't scroll down. we checked, and sure enough, it wouldn't work on a pc (ie OR netscape) and doesn't seem to work on our macs in netscape 4.7.

we have tried to insert the "scrollbars=yes" and the "_blank" and everything but i wanted someone from this forum to take a look and see if you've ever come across anything like this before??? if you need more info, just let me know through this thread or email me directly at trevor@gcp.com.

[MX] Flash Panel With Fixed Height, But Liquid Width?
i have a flash panel that is 700 x 200 pixels, with 5 lines of text.

I want to have the width of the panel widen, when you widen the browser window which in turn will also widen the width of the text area. So the text might go from say,..5 lines to 3 since it is now a wider text column.

I have the html embed width defined as 100% which extends the background color fine, but i also want:
1) the text column to widen to whatever the width of the browser window
2) the panel not to shrink smaller than 700 x 200

I'm not sure i've even seen this done before, but thought i'd ask.

Dynamically Resizing Text In A Fixed Width Field
Hello!

I'm creating a series of fixed width text fields which will have text brought into them from a feed, using createTextField();.

I'd like to be able to dynamically resize the text so that it fills the entire width of the text field automatically.

Is there a way of doing this without parsing the string and working out the equivalent font size for the number of characters? Or does anyone know of a method, class or component that could deal with this?

Does anyone know if and how you can make flash movies scaleable i.e. you expand the browser window and everything stays the same size but i.e. the right hand navigation stays to the right...

Scaleable Background
I am trying to find out how to make a scaleable backgroun in a SWF. A sample is what I am talking about is here:

If you click on the enter button it goes to a second SWF with an open book. If you stretch the browser, the main Flash content floats over the background which seems to stretch as you stretch tyhe browser. Is this a simple thing to do?

Static And Scaleable
Hi people,

I am creating a layout that relies on loading movies into empty placeholders, no problems there, the problem is that I want some elements to be repositioned when a browser is scaled and some not too...

Take a look a look at a very cool site http://www.wearedual.com/portfolio/crashshop/site.html

Take a look at how some elements are repostioned when you scale your broswer (logo, right hand links) and some elements remain static (navigation links, text boxes).

How can I go about achieving this? At the minute I have a main html file which holds the info for the main.swf settings (which hold all the additional swf files, I have set the HTML publish settings to:

Dimensions: Percent

Width 100 x 100 (%)

Scale (No scale)

Flash alignment:

Horizontal: Center
Vertical: Center


Any help/suggestions would be cool.....

Scaleable .swf In Netscape Not Working
How do I get the swf to showall in netscape and keep the aspect ratio when adjusting the size of the window? It works fine in I.E., but the .swf is about 1/4 the size that it should be in netscape, and it doesn't scale at all. I've tried fscommand allowscale and fullscreen, but nothing seems to work.

Scaleable Swf Within Table In DWCS3?
Can I make a .swf scaleable, as if it were FSCommanded scaleable=true, but instead of being scaled to the size of a web browser window have a table, or layout table within DWCS3 scale the swf to the size of the web browser?

ie: web browser is 800 pix wide, table containing .swf 'autostretch' scales it to 800 pix. user scales browser window larger, table scales .swf. etc

Nested Scaleable Movieclips
Hello

I have gotten myself in a muddle .


What I want to do is the following:

Have a movieclip on stage "main_mc"
This will contain several instances of a second movieclip "plotArea_mc". I can resize and reposition these instances individually.
The movie clip "plotArea_mc" contains two further movie clips "past_mc" and "future_mc" positioned side by side.

The crucial bit is that the past and future movieclips must resize themselves automatically if I change the size and position of their parent "plotArea_mc" instance.
Its a bit wordy I know, but I have attached a bitmap image of the general layout.

The purpose of this structure is so that I can place different animations in the different instances of "past_mc" and "future_mc". I might make one instance of the "plotArea_mc" a diferent height or width from another and I need the animations it contains to resize accordingly.

I am planning to drop all these animations in manually. so its best if the movieclips are accessible, rather than apearing at runtime.

Have you got any suggestions or what would be amazing is a .fla file with these nested and resizing themselves properly.
I know this probably sounds very cheeky, but I have been banging my head against this problem all night.

Publishing Scaleable File In Mozilla
help! i've set my site to be scaleable using the publish html settings which works fine except for in mozilla where the file looks like it's about 10 pixels big. i'm setting my scaling settings to 95%. anyone else have similar problems?? thanks much.

How Do I Make The Flash Movie Scaleable?
I've seen webpages and movies that are scaleable...as in, you make your IE bigger, the movie gets bigger too.

Are there any pre-requisites to getting this to work right? Like...does it have to all be created in Flash, or all Vector? Anything like that? My page is a mix of Vector and Raster so I'm not sure how it'd affect it.

Set Width Of A ComboBox Component Without Changing Width Of Arrow
Hi,

With actionscript I have put a few ComboBoxes on the stage and than tryed to change the width with:

setProperty(_root.container[ComboBoxName],_width,150);


It works, However the arrow-part in the combobox expands also. I don't want it to expand.

I want it to behave like when a put a combobox on the stage myself and adjust the width of it in the properties window.

In this case only the text-part expands... the size of the arrow doesn't change!

How can I do this?

Internal Clip Width Bigger Than Movie Width?
i have a movie that is 750 pixels wide. i have a movieclip inside this main movie called "menuBack" that is just a bit less wide than the main movie. this movieclip has several other clips inside of it. i set a variable on a keyframe in my main movie getting the width property of "menuback". of course i expected it to be just a bit less wide than my main movie, maybe 720 pixels wide. when i test the movie and then check debug/list variables, it say it is 1095 pixels wide...how is this possible?

1000px Width Flash In 500px Width Div Problem

I have 00px width flash, which goes in to 500px width div.

everything is ok. just flash is left aligned... i can't make it to laign to center.

div style overflow is hidden. so no scrollbars. just flash has to go center aligned... not left aligned, as it is now...

align="center" does not help...

Dynamic Background Width/static Foreground Width?
I am trying to make a site with elements that resize dynamically depending on the browser width, but have the foreground element stay the same size all the time?

The first part is easy to do. If I set the height and width of the Flash file in the HTML to 100%, when the browser is resized, the Flash will also resize.

But I can't figure out the second part.

An example of what I'm trying to do is at Rilo Kiley's website

Another example is gskinner.com

No matter what your browser size, the background scales and the foreground is always the same width and height.

I am using Flash MX 2004.

Hello... I am trying to make a loaded image.width be the stage.width on resize... the same for the height... I'm tweening them also... and that seems to be working... well on the yx... not so much on the width.... If I use Stage.width directly in the tween it seems to not load the image... little lost here... thank you for any help...
