Flash Newbie Needing Guidance
Hello!

My name is Mikkel and I'm building my first flash site on my own. The site is very simple with a menu and an area for the sections to load when the menu-buttons are clicked. Specifically, what I need help with is the actionscript.

What I've done so far is importing all my image files into the library and made a movie clip called "menu" which includes the buttons. I placed this on Layer 1 in the main scene. What I need now is each button to preload their section.

I haven't progressed more than this, if anyone know of a good guide how to structure a site with simple button + preloader, that'd be much appreciated!

A Flash Newbie Needing Help On Buttons
Hi Guys

Im a flash newbie, whos been following the kirupa tutorials. Im currently working on the "sliding menu" tutorial (http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash8/slidingMenu.htm).

However I really want the buttons to show a different state when it visits the correct page. eg pink button will change grey when it lands on the pink page.

Newbie Really Needing Help
I am learning to use flash and the first project I choose was a fireworks display. I am doing ok except one area that I keep getting stuck in. Using the paint bucket fill tool. I am trying to fill an area that I made with the line tool with a gradient fill. I Have made sure there were no gaps in the drawing and have followed the books instructions but I can't get it to fill. The project had another area that was to be filled with a solid white, and couldn't get it to work there either. Could someone please tell me where I am going wrong? It can't be that hard. Ir maybe it can. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Newbie Needing Help
About a month ago, my flash started appearing as a blank white box on a few computers. It has spread like fire throughout the office in the last week and I am needing help.

It shows up fine in FireFox & IE7, but not in IE6.

Newbie Needing Tips
I have a small site I'm recreating in Flash. It's my first Flash job (other than an intro page), and I haven't even touched Flash since version 4, so please bear with me! As you can imagine, I'm basically teaching myself as I go... I can't afford the courses or anything like that at this time, so I'm counting on you!

This site has several pages (about a dozen). I'm trying to decide the most efficient way of linking the various pages, and what to do about navigation.

First, about navigation. Should the menu bar be it's own movie that I load into the top of each page? (I hope I said that correctly)

Then, when you click on a button, load the movie for the respective page?

I suspect this is awfully vague, I hope yoru answers will help me formulate the questions better. Thanks!

Complete Newbie Needing Help
Hi all,

I joined a couple of weeks back because I needed a little help, well a lot of help I suppose!

I need to create a vehicle number plate designer for the web. It's for a mates website and I owe him a favour. I figured flash would be a good place to start, bet there lies a problem. I have no experience with Flash. I can draw shapes and animate them, only I've no idea how to have a text box where people can enter their vehicle registration and it show them on the screen what it'd look like. Does this make sense so far?

From what I have read, I can do this in two ways. I can include fonts in the flash file or I can use images. (I have both). What I need to do is be able to type in a registration (i.e. A123 ABC) and click a button (e.g. "Show My Plates") and it to give a representation of the finished item on screen. There's also badges (i.e. GB etc), several different font designs, borders and text along the bottom of the plate.

I realise I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I need to sort this out as cheaply as possible therefore I want to write it.

Can anyone give me any pointers etc? Or a suitable bunch of tutorials I might be able to adapt?

Newbie Needing Help With A Drop Down Menu
Hello, I'm trying to figure this out and it's like beating my head against a wall.
I'm using the Drop Down Menu from GUISTUFF.com and I need to figure out how to get my menu's to change the link in a different frame.
I have 3 frames, 2 navbars and a MAIN, the menus are in the top frame and I want to change the MAIN frame.

[MX04] Newbie Needing Help With A Fast Approaching DEADLINE
I've made very simple flash movies in the past, but I've gotten away from Macromedia flash. Here's the sequence of what my movie needs to do:

movie starts with watermarked background then parts of a logo appear after logo is formed, logo slides up out of the stage, then the watermark is peeled off using peeling effect to reveal the vibrant background, then in the same movie a series of images appear which pan. Then at the end of this movie, I need it to loop back and start at the frame just after the watermark peel (we don't want to see the watermark again.)

Newbie Needing Some Site Building Guidance - How To Structure A Site?
I need a little help - I am designing an art portfolio in Flash, and so I need it to be a site that has a few different pages that are linked between each other - you know, common sense. I really have no idea how to go about structuring that. I've been doing well at animations and buttons and ActionScript and all kinds of things in Flash, but I just don't understand how to make several pages that are part of the same document. Do you use scenes, or different "projects" within the document, or what? And then how do you link to them - just like it was any other URL?

I GUESS I mean, how do you design in Flash using a home page and then other pages to navigate to?

Is A Flash Navigation To Difficult For A Newbie? (pics Included)
Basically I have a menu with four buttons that I would like to do the following with:

1) Whenever a menu item is click an icon is added to a tray that displays all items previously clicked.

2) Some menu items, instead ot adding a icon to the tray, will load a different menu.

That's it. Will this be too hard for a newbie? I have gone through the tuts that come with flash and know HTML and CSS pretty well. I tried to find a tut online wbut was gettgin nowhere. Below is an graphic that I hope will better explain what it is that I need.

Scene Navigation (Newbie Help)
I'm developing a page turner (e-learning). I want to put a button on a page (scene) to navigate to the next scene (etc.)

When I test, I get what looks like the movie is jumping between scenes. What am I doing wrong?

Navigation Bar Buttons (newbie ?)

Navigation List Tut. (newbie)
I was wondering how to nest 10 or more text links into a small menu, exactly how Lee has the videos in the "Select A Tutorial" menu. With a simple scroll bar.

I've seen examples of creating all the content, using a mask and then creating symbols with script to scroll... but as a newbie I was hoping there would be a simpler way of doing this.

Needing Help With Flash MX
I am needing some help with flash. I am atempting to do the "Ray of Light" effect. I can get it working when it is in it's own movie and the action script is in the root directory. When I try to move it in to the movie that as create as the opening of the webpage (The "Ray of Light" is the last sceen) it no longer works. Do i have to modify the action script since it is about 4 levels deep?

The project that was given was to create anything that we wanted just as long as it engaged people with interactive media. The main program that we are using is Flash actionscript 2.0. For this project I am creating a site that is a 30 day line drawing study that anyone can go to and with a simple drawing program that I have already coded, can make only one click and drag line mark per visit. The site will be recording every line that is made between 12:00am to 12:00pm at the end of the 12 hours the site will upload that days creation to a blog and reset itself to a blank screen.

What I need help with is a database storer that will record every line that is made in that 12 hour time frame so that every time the site is loaded the previous line made from someone else shows up on the screen.

Needing Help With A Flash Textfield Bug.
Hi Shokers,

This time my question is on a Flash Textfied bug.

I've done few tests here, and I noticed that a simple Textfield with HTML link inside of it don't loses the 'hitarea' of the HTML link if we move that Textfield outside the flash player redraw region.

Anyone has suggestions or experience in workarounding that issue?

Photoshop Template Needing Flash
Heya guys,

I've done a photoshop template for a website, again, I'm just a rookie at flash, so this site has been my learning resource

I've trying to get my template to work in flash, what i'm trying to acheive is those black buttons on the side, animated. When clicked i want some text to flash into any three of the boxes in the middle. Optimizing For Flash Movies Needing Many Images
Hey all,
I've been searching through some of the old posts regarding optimizing images and such for flash looking for some help, but still haven't come up with any solid answers. I need to make a flash intro with many photos (like at least 10-12 images I think) flashing within it for a band however I want to make sure and maintain low load time. I know this can be done because I've seen it countless times, but how do you go about optimizing everything and keeping the load time so small when you have that many pictures flashing within the intro? Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe some tips on what quality and image settings would be good while still retaining good visual standards. Also I take it that its better to "save for web" in Photoshop then just saving as. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Needing To Select Flash Movie To Play?
I'm wondering if there is a way that the flash movie can be set up so that users do not need to click on the movie to play. Or perhaps is there a way to set up a message that invites the user to click on movie to play in order to make it active?

Needing Advice On The Flash Datechooser Component
Hello all
Desperately need help using the flash DateChooser. What I want to do is basically if a date is clicked which my company has an event on, to go to and play a movie clip (or load a movieclip) which comes up with information about the event. I understand I'll have to add an event listener, but have got no idea how to check which date is clicked and infact, how it will behave!

[Flash 8] Line Cursor Trailer... Noob Needing Help :)
Hey everyone, this is my first post in this forum. I'm a bit of a flash beginner and hopefully with some help will one day be able to help out people like me!

I have a cursor follower which is a little animated bee. And what I am trying to do is give it a little dotted line trail - - - - - - - like this. Which follows it, and then fades out after a while. Ive found numerous line trailers which are ALMOST perfect, but I don't know very much actionscript, especially when you start putting x and y variables and stuff in there.

The ones that I have all scale up the line mc when you move the cursor faster. So instead of having a nice even trail, you get big ones and small ones all over the place. I'm really not sure if this is even avoidable, seeing as every single one I have downloaded does this.

I'm not even sure how to post a link to my file so that you can download it to have a look. But I can post it up here if someone tells me how!

Needing Help Please
Hi there I hope some one can help me out please with the following.
I have an interface that's animating in a circle > and I have 6 buttons attached in the circle. You can rotate the circle so each button once will face to bottom of the screen, this is the basic setup.

What I want to do is, I don't want to maken the animation 6 times to the left rotation and 6 time to the right ratation, so I made it 1 time left and 1 time right, but know my problem is, how do I get flash to know which button it is, like when then first button is pointing at the bottom > that's button 1, when you click on second button it starts animating and when it's pointing at the bottom than it's button 2, etc

can I do something like this?

On the buttons something like
start with button is 1 and when you click it +1 or something with a max of 6 and then start all over again....????

And on a frame script something like
if button == 1
gotoAndPlay("animation1")
if button == 2
gotoAndPlay("animation2")
etc etc

what l am needing it to do is when you click on a link in the navigation menu, the whole nav menu will move to a new area on the main stage so the nav menu doesnt obscure the new background image displayed.

Needing Some Help Here
Here goes...

My main movie loads an external swf (portfolio) into an empty MC called "emptyMC". That portfolio.swf has buttons. When each button is pressed to load another new swf "tabletennis.swf" into the empty MC "view2", I have a little transition, "tester" that plays in an empty MC called "view" which is called using attachMovie. Here's the code...

_root.emptyMC.view.attachMovie ("tester", "window", 1);
loadMovie("tabletennis.swf", "_root.view2");

}
Now with each button that calls each new portfolio piece (tabletennis.swf, ball.swf, etc) I have a little bit of code to remove the "tester" MC from the "view" empty MC, which then reveals the remainder of each portfolio piece.

On the first frame of those external swf's that are being loaded into empty mc "view2" i have the code

_root.emptyMC.view.window.removeMovieClip();
But that doesn't seem to unload the "tester" attached movie located in empty MC "view".

Anyone have any idea how to unload an attached movie that is sitting in an empty MC (view) that's been loaded into another Empty mc (emptyMC) from the main timeline?

Hope this makes sense. Only took me 20 minutes to write it all out.

New To AS And Needing Help
I've just recently started learning Actionscript (with Flash 8) so I can start making flash games, particularly rpgs. I've been able to figure out a lot with online tutorials and pieces of advice from others, but there are a few things that I can't seem to figure out. I was wondering if I could get some help.

The first thing is that Iâ€™ve created an MC to act as the player. I've made the first frame of the MC a picture of a man who's just standing there. When an arrow key is pressed and held down the MC is supposed to jump to frame 2, which is the start of a frame-by-frame animation of the man moving. The problem is that the animation doesn't start until the arrow key is released. How do I get the animation to play when the arrow key is pressed and held?

The second thing is that I have an object in a room that turns invisible when the player MC comes into contact with it (the alpha gets set to 0). When the player leaves the room (jumps to a different frame) and then comes back, the object is visible again. How do I make it so that changes made to something stay changed, even if the player goes to a different frame and comes back?

The last thing is a bit more complicated. I have the main adventure in one .fla/.swf. Each type of creature found in the adventure then has it's own combat .fla/.swf. What is the best way to make it so that when the player MC comes into contact with a monster in the adventure he will jump to the combat sequence? I've thought about dumping the combat sequence into the main timeline of the adventure, but that would create a timeline thousands of frames long. Is there a way to jump from the adventure .swf to the start of the combat .swf, then when the combat ends it jumps back to the adventure .swf with the player exactly where he was? How do I keep/make changes to the combat from the adventure, and vice versa (so your current health gets transferred into the combat and then back out, something in the adventure tells the combat .swf how much health the monster has, etc)

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Needing Help
i have a flash project where i have spent about 10 hours trying to get my mc from scene1 to play out and the go to scene2 i have tried, in scene1 i have mc and action. in mc i have the sound, movie and action at end of movie to jump or goto the next send the only time i get it to go the the next scene is when is stop the movie from playing completely then it starts at scene2.

Needing Desperate Help....

I have a SWF and all im wanting to do is add a preloader.

problem is it aint working. (will not load first frame until all the swf is loaded)

the file size is only 50k and there is no audio.

Noob Needing Help...
I have swish v2...I just got back into the website stuff after being absent for about 3 years and alot has changed. What I want to do is put an mp3 into my movie but I don't want the page to take 10 minutes to load. I see how others can get their's to load in mere seconds. Yeah I'm Needing Help - Again
OK I have created an image and when you click on parts of the image, dynamic text pops up.

I need to use this text as buttons and when that is clicked it opens a new page.

I have been told that I can create invisible buttons with text but not too sure how it would fit in with my text.

Needing Understanding
I would appreciate if I could get some help understanding how to separate the movie from a cursor event.
