Using Mx.core.Application.application.url In A Class
I have a VERY simple class that does not work and I would like to know why. Here it is:

The error message is "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference". This is because mx.core.Application.application is null. My problem is that when I trace mx.core.Application.application.url in my Flex2 application it is defined, and it is the current Request URI. Why can't I access it from within my class? Can this be some kind of namespace issue? Why does ActionScript insist on making me mad (rhetorical).

Flash Application
Hello everyone. I am new to Flash, so don't laugh too hard at my questions. Heh-heh. I have been experimenting so I have a little knowledge so far. I am trying to build an "application" (if it can be called that) to compare data "health plans" to one another. I would like the user to choose the state they would like to compare in, then choose how many plans they would like to compare, and finally the plans themselves. Once they have selected everything Flash would need to build the comparison based on a template that I use in Indesign (which) i would need to recreate in Flash. Also the data fields would need to be left open to modify manually in Flash, in case someone wanted to. I have started building it, but so far it is alot of "button" to "frame" stuff which isn't working. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? My questions are:

1. Is this project possible in Flash? What else would I need? What actionscript commands would be most helpful?
2. Is there anything that has been already created that could guide me to finishing my application?

Any suggestions, comments, samples, would be greatly appreciated. I am very quick to learn so, please just lay it on me. =)

Hi,

I'm going to be making a CD that has an autostart screen when you insert the disk. If the CD user does not have Flash, the CD won't work. How can I make a self-standing flash movie file that does not need the Flash plugin app installed?

Flash Application
I want to make a simple application where the user enters their zip code and to a certain group of zip codes have a message pop up for them. Everyone else outside of those certain zip codes another message pops up for them. My question to you is where can I find out how to make such and app? I am sure it is probally simple, but I haven't had much experience with applications in flash...yet.

CD-ROM - Flash Application... How?
I want to create and flash presentation and publish it somehow on a CD-ROM. So that when the CD is played, it will automatically run my flash presentation.

I've also seen application interfaces the say in the bottom corner, "made by Macromedia". I'd like to create something to that effect.

I have been informed that a good way to get graphics animations running on a PC based platform is to use a Flash application.

Where can I get info on doing this (and is it really possible).

My biggest concern is hooking the flash frontend up with C++ code that must be run behind the scenes.

Any pointers or resources anyone???

i have to do an application that will play music samples and display info about the selected spanish region selected by clicking a button.
I know nothing about actionscript and how it works with external files. i think that i would need a database to store all the jpgs and mp3 for every region and create a template page that will display these items in the movie.
Who could explain where to begin, what is the best way to accomplish this?

I'm new to this forum; however, I've been using Flash CS3 for a while. I'm good with the design side; however, ActionScript not so much.

I am going to try to build a simple point of sale application within Flash for a business I just purchased. Its a small ice cream business. This application will only be used by me locally on one machine. I'd take customer's orders and customize it (Would you like that supersized ) I'd need totals, and cash back calculations. It would be great to connect to an Access database to keep track of orders and to make my own daily reports. It's not a big business that needs an incredible system; however, anything is better than a simple calculator. Flash might not be the best program to use, yet I'm most comfortable with it.

I've been thinking about it and doing some research. I know there will be lots of variables and functions but I don't even know where to start. Can somebody push me in the right direction? I can't seem to find templates or tutorials online that would help me. I'm thinking I need alter a shopping cart application to meet my needs.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate anything!

I am a 3d modeller, and have created a huge building in 3d, all textured with lighting - then i created a video with it

I need to know how to create some sort of flash application to hold my video.

I have no experiance with flash, and would like to know if anyone can point me in the right
direction.

I have tried to search google, but i didnt find anything of use.

The main aim, is to create a Flash Application, that allows users to use a GUI to navigate around
videos, something that allows interactivity.

BUT, i dont even know where to start? how to create a window - are there any specific tutorials
or books that explain how create a FLASH APPLICATION?

Flash Application In MSN.
I'm trying to get a flash application working in MSN.
It workes fine in some systems, but in some i get an error

I checked flash player, its latest.. and same in all systems.
I use IE 7.
Any idea how to solve this...?

Help With Flash Application
I need a flash application which allow me submit content via back-end and they will be show on front-end. General it likes a FAQ system by Flash.

* Back-End:
- admin panel with secure login.
- can add content manually by text editor. Admin can add link, add images... like WYSIWYG.
- can add/del/edit content and can move content to folder or sub-folder.
- can add/del/edit directory (folder and sub folder)
- content should saved on MySQL database. Content always contains text, images, links… such as HTML. Some content has link to other flash file, make sure you can do it.
- admin can change pass, pass must be secure too, maybe it should be encoded.

* Front-End:
- show content in 2 columns: left is folder, content tittle and right is content details. Such as windows explorer.
- You must add link or button: < Previous Next > , they are allow user jump to newer or older content.
- user access content can NOT use any flash-decompiler software to get content or anything. This means application must be secure, no one can copy content or detect admin pass, url, files of application…

Is it possible to create system like this? How? Do you know any extensions for flash or flex help me that?

Is This A Possible Flash Application?
I am considering using Flash as a stand alone application that can communicate with a wireless device - for example a small camera that is always listening (for ex: record on, record off, rotate etc) thru UDP/IP and not TCPIP. This application must work on a computer and some hand held wireless device.

1. Is this possible, if so how can FLASH be used to send UDP datagrams to the camera?
2. How can this Flash application work on a wireless hand held device, is there a Flash version for wireless devices as there is for computers?

Flash-Application To Run On CD-Rom Only
Hi

I'm looking for a solutions to a seeminlgy simple problem:
I have an standalone Flash application on CD-Rom, and I want the application to run only if the app runs directly off the CD - or at least if the CD is inserted in the CD-drive.
Thus if the app gets copied from the CD onto the computer it shouldn't be playable if the CD ain't here.

Except of getting an (expensive) copy protection on the CD-Rom, can I solve this within Flash or with any other Flash-Tool?

What kind of options do I have to achieve this?
What are some of the solutions you came up with?

A Way To Run An Application (Flash Exe) On Only One PC
Hello all,

we are developping a flash application, and we would like it, to be able to work only on one PC.

So i am looking for a solution that could work like this:

- For the first use of the application (flash exe), on the user's computer, to be able to store a data such as an information of the user's computer, in the application, with action script.

- And then, for all the next uses, each time, we'll check the information of the user's computer and compare it with the information stored in the application...

I don't know if it is possible, and if it is, how to turn it on into Action Script.

Flash DVD-ROM Application
Where can I find some hints or tutorials to create a DVD-ROM application that will autoplay when a DVD is inserted into the computer? The Adobe Tutorial DVD in CS3 has an application that autoplays in the Flash Player.

All I'm wanting to do is make a DVD that can have extra features when a computer is used. The extra features would include buttons to websites or pdf documents. Fairly simple, I would imagine.

Hi All,

I am quite new to flash and actionscripting. I have a question regarding an offline application I am looking at building.

Here is the problem:
I will have a certain number of excel spreadsheets over the course of a month. Each day a new spreadsheet is created. Each sheet will have exactly the same fields but with different data that has been collected on that day.

Is there a way that the end user could then run a flash application (offline) that would take all of the data from the excel spreadsheets throughout the month and add them in to one (so that all of the data is in one spreadsheet) basically to save them copying and pasting everything every month?

I wasnt sure whether flash had the ability to perform something like this.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

I have a few questions. Is it ok to build in the application page when doing a site in a Flash Application. And if not, how do i get it to nav back and forth with my nav bar and sub nav bar. I have tried it sucsessfuly when building in the application page but i was told that is not the proper way to build. Please help i am greatly confused and completly lost at this time.

Flash Application On A CD
Hi, I am thinking about creating a application in flash, such as a childrens learning CD. I want to build it in flash, and put it on CD and give it to nursury's and stuff, is this possible to do , do i need flash director?? I want the CD to work like software, so when u put the CD in, it runs the application.

C++ Application With Flash UI
We are developing C++ application which has Flash based UI.
C++ part is a multi-thread application. Algorithm from one thread send data to Flash interface. MFC based application with Flash AcitiveX control is running on another thread.

Right now for exchanging data between Flash and C++ we are using technics described at http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/...s/flash_vb.pdf
At C++ side its a call for SetVar("event",..) and at Flash part its a code _root.watch("event",CallBackFunc)

The problem is that on big load, when in a short time a lot of messages being sent from C++ to Flash, Flash ActiveX crashes.

Are there any better and reliable ways for exchanging data betwen C++ application and Flash?

i'm developing my first Flash Form Based Application. it uses PHPObject
to connect to the MySQL database. i've written some apps in the past
but they were VisualBasic Applications.

i have some nice VB classes to deal with the queries and databases.
i thought of rewriteing them to flash, but they are written in a way
that cant be handeld (i think) in flash.

so, i have two basic questions:
1. is it possible to enumerate for example all TextBox components on a given form (slide)?
2. is it possible to have an array of compoments? for example i have 3 TextBoxes,
each named data_txt, and i refere to them like this:
data_txt[0].text, data_txt[1].text, data_txt[3].text

so, is it possible? if so... how?
i saw a component named VisualEnumerator witch seems to bo doing just that
but it is compiled component (not a smartclip) so i cant see the source code,
so i dont know how it is done.

anyone?

Is This Possible In FLASH? Or Any Other Application?

I have been trying to establish various methods for the following problem. I want to create some kind of slide show or simple animation using 9 words. Upon saving this file as (x) in application (x1). I want this animation or slide show to appear after a user has turned on his/her machine and after he/she has logged on, for approxinately 5 - 7 seconds. I know about putting things in the startup folder and have applications run that way...but i have never done this sort of slide show where just the show or animations appears without the application in view and dissapears 7 sec later, and everything else starts normally...icons and trays load up noprmally...

Has anyone have any clue as to has this could be done?...as i have been trying for ages and have not reached close to a respectable solution.

Hello, i'd like some advice.

I want to create a flash application thatpeople can download. When they run the program, it should connect to my server on the internet so it can retrieve some data. Is this possible? Then you may ask, why not run the flash application on the server too? Well, for speed reasons. It will be quite large and people shouldn't have to download the images and other stuff costantly.

When this is possible, is it also possible for the program to interact with a webserver? That way no ports on the firewall would have the be opened for tcp ip and such.

Using Flash In ASP Application
I am new to web development. I have stuided the tutorials in Flash mx professional 2004, but not sure how to combine it with the app created in HTML and ASP. What I need to do is just create some visual effects - like when a link is clicked the page slowly transforms into another page,etc...Can anyone just point me in the right direction?

i'm thinking in building an local application to do the following:

- browse local images;
- modify the images a little (resize, rotate, brightness)
- send them to the internet.

Is this "thing" possible in flash, or am i wasting my time thinking in flash and have to turn my head to delphi or VB, or other?

I want to have a standalone Flash application go accross two screens.

I have a dual screen monitor card.

I want to have the application be full screen on BOTH monitors.

How can I do this in Flash?
Is it possible?

Or is it at least possible to have two full screen aplications running on both monitors?
(At the moment, a full screen application will launch in the default or primary monitor.)

Otherwise, is it possible to do in Director?

Flash Application & IIS 6
Hy guys

I just published my first (from begining till the end) on a IIS 6 Server
and i don't know why it is making problems.

I have some Flash Application wich is displaying an external text, at user command (button push), on a text area in the flash application.
If I try it on local it works fine, my application calls the external text and show it in the text area, but when I try to browse it from the Web Server it doesn't call the external files, it gives no error in the web browser.
I don't know what should be the problem!

Flash As A GUI For A C++ Application

I'm wondering if it's possible to use a stand-alone flash as a gui for a application written in c++ in such a way that the c++ application can call actionscript methods and vice versa?

I remember when AS 2.0 came out, Macromedia claimed that such things would be doable in the near future, but I haven't seen it done yet and can't find anything about the subject no matter how much I search for it.

I know I could communicate through sockets or via Flash Communication Server, but that would generate way too much network transmission for my purpose

"i did the drawing tool tutorial and it works great, but now i want users to choose their own color, so i replaced the rgb value with a variable called 'mycolor'... This only seems to work if i define 'mycolor' in the frame-actionscript, and not when i put it in a buttonscript..."

Interactive Flash Application
I need to create an interactive Flash application that will allow multiple areas on a map of districts to be selected and change color when selected. The user may select one or more districts on the map, but as he makes his selction, each new area will become highlighted. No area will unhighlight unless he clicks on it again. Permissions will be assigned via database so that he will only be allowed to select the districts for which he is a representative. He would get an error message if he chose a district outside his jurisdiction.
I am a beginner is Flash and am learning it because of this project (and because it gave me the perfect excuse to learn it!!!). I have a rudamentary understanding of animation but that's it. I'm need of help BIG TIME.

I need to create interactive cds with flash autoloaders... how do I execute files such as .exe, .zip, .rar from within a flash movie? I used .bat files before but its so dirty and alot of times the stupid DOS windows do not close themselves and the scripts dont work properly. PS. I have just received a news bulletin from my boss. He would also like me to look into embedding flash into external applications (the other way around). I will search for that but thought I would include that in my post also. The most important part though is embedding an external application into flash. And if that isn't possible the reverse (embedding flash into an application) might work.

Flash MX Application Pitch

need some input here. I am putting together a document for a client where I need to pitch him on Flash, and what it can do. I think I have a pretty good idea of what I want to put in there, but sharing it with you peoples just makes it so much more fun....

He allready has a Cold Fusion application. He now thinks of moving over to a 'rich internet application' (macromedia's name-pushing has reached him too), but he doesn't really know what to expect. So he comes to vevmesteren...don't they all (*sigh*)...

Flash Application Disappeared
Oh dear, I really do come accross the strangest things when using my computer, from time to time.

Somehow, Flash only seems to appear in Maximized mode. Problem is, I really want to use it in mid-mode state. I've tried using the 'move' option on the taskbar, but Flash's window position seems too way off the screen to retrieve.

Has anyone got a way to bring it back to 0,0 co-ordinates (or default preferably), without re-installing Flash?
