Hello all, beforehand I thank you for your help. I use Windows Vista and I took all precautions and did scandisk/disk defrag/ and have numerous utilities to keep my computer clean so it can't be that...

I have been using Flash CS4 pretty regularly until about a week ago and i never had any real problems but now every time I open up Flash CS4 it gives me an error message and closes. It gives me the "Adobe Flash CS4 has stopped working" and that "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...9d1fef9b4g.jpg

Help - FLA's Not Opening Anymore
Ave,

I'm in a big soup. I have a ton of FLA files that i've worked upon from many years now. These FLA's have been created, edited, modified & worked upon in many different versions of Flash.... from Flash 6, Flash MX to Flash MX 2004 Professional.

Up until now i never had a problem opening these files or working with them. Now suddenly, they won't open anymore.

I'm getting all sorts of errors, from "Failed to open document" to "Not a valid .FLA" to "Not enough memory to complete this operation". If one of the FLA's would open, it won't show anything on stage or timeline, and will only show the items in Library, but if i click any item, the software crashes.

I do have Flash 8 Professional & Flash MX 2004 Professional. The same files give the same exact error in both software and won't open in either. Unfortunately it's been a while (About 6 - 8 months) since i worked on these FLA's last and i honestly don't know which version of Flash was last used to open & modify these FLA's.

What can i do to open these documents? There's too much critical stuff in these FLA's to loose them. Can anyone suggest anything?

Button Not Opening Files Anymore
I have some SWFs that have dropdowns and when you select what you are looking for clicking the button opens the PDF file from a network drive. Since the flashplayer updated to the latest version this no longer works. Can anyone offer any assistance.

Flash MX Bar Preloaders, Don't Work Anymore?
I remember when we used to work with Flash 4 (and the player) and we'd be implementing bar preloaders the preloader convieniently shows up from beginning to end; basically it worked as it should.

When i work with (try and create my own or even use already working files) with Flash MX the screen stays blank and stuck till it almost completels loading up the movies then carries on; in other words while it does load up it doesn't show the bar or anything. Is any one else facing such problems?

Does anyone know why this problem occurs.

No Sounds Playing Anymore In Flash

I have a major problem. All of a sudden, I cant hear sounds anymore in flash. I've been working on a clip with audio in it, and I can't hear anything anymore! Also not in online flash videos.

Is A Pentium 3 Not Fast Enough For Flash Anymore?
I just wanted to reformat a Pentium 3 for use on the internet. The old Pentium 3 is a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop.

I put on Windows 2000 with Firefox 3.1beta. The computer runs fine. However, when viewing most videos at YouTube the videos are constantly stuttering. The entire video has completely downloaded, it is just playback of the flash video is chocking the machine. The internet browser process maxes out the cpu.

To help resolve this issue, I have tried, IE6 - Safari - Chrome - K-Melon - Opera - Advant. On all these platforms, flash video causes the browser to max out the cpu. I even removed Flash 10 and installed Flash 7 - No change in performance.

So is a Pentium 3 not fast encough for Flash video at YouTube? Is there anything I can do?? Can I tell the flash player to use lower quality settings? I have not tried flash video on other sites.

Flash File Wont Open Anymore
Hi,
I really hope someone can help me.
I've got a .fla that for some reason will not open anymore!
The first time I tried to open it - it threw up a message "Failed to Open Document" - now it just doesn't do anything - nothing happens.
If doesn't work in either or MX 2004 Pro
If I can't recover it I've lost a shed load of work.

I was cleaning some prgrams on my comp and after that I cantplay flash movies on the webpages if I open them with IE6, however firefox works fine

I triet to instal player from Adobe homepage and it says installed successully but when i go to the page that has fllash movie it doent work well it works with flash versions 8 but those who are using flash 9 it doesnt work ...

Maybe my Macromedia Player still works but adobe Player doesnt?

I have disabled Adobe LM service but that was long time ago nd player was working fine...

Flash CS3 Trial Version -> Dreamweaver 8 Won't Work Anymore
I recently installed the trial version of Flash CS3. It worked fine, but after the 30 day evaluation period, Dreamweaver 8, an app I've had installed for a few years now ceases to work. It loads up, then immediately crashes. Prior to that, both apps worked fine concurrently.

I uninstalled the Flash CS3 trial version. Still, Dreamweaver 8 crashes.
I found the CS3Clean Script, ran that, and Dreamweaver 8 still crashes.

I'm positive this has something to do with the 30 day evaluation period, because I was using Dreamweaver fine yesterday.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I've tried re-installing Dreamweaver along with the 8.0.2 update and still get the same results.
I have Flash 8 installed already, if that helps.

Beginner Problem: My Flash Swf File Doesn't Redirect Anymore..
My website was accidentially deleted by my web hosting company...fortunately I was able to restore the main swf file which was the intro screen to my site. I didn't create the flash file nor do I have any Flash programming experience...(althought I am a programmer.) I don't have the swf sourcecode, but this file was working properly for several years.

The swf flash index page simply hosts the swf file movie, and then the site has always redirected to the main site homepage. Since I restored the site, the flash movie shows, but instead of redirecting to the main web page, it now hangs at the last frame of the movie. Can someone please let me know what I am missing? [MX04] "Error Opening URL" During Preview On Flash (not Just Opening Swf).
When I preview a movie by pressing command+return (Mac) on a few particular .fla files, it gives me a "Error Opening URL" message.

The files are in the same folder, I didn't move them at all. It happened the very first time I created a preview/SWF file by hitting command+return and it kept doing that whenever I wanted to preview my file. So I had to go in and just open the SWF file itself each time I hit "command+return". Why does it do that? Is it because the path is way too long? Does Flash have issues with really long paths or is this a glitch? I'm trying to figure out why this happens because it ALSO happens on a separate project (that's 3-4 folders in depth) at certain points of the project.

I try to go back to the very first main page from a swf file that's 2 folders above it even though if I just open the main root file (index.swf or whatever), it opens a swf file that's a folder above it just fine (/anotherfolder/file.swf). That file has no issues going forward another folder (/anotherfolder/anotherfolder2/file.swf) It has no problems going backwards to the very first index page from that point on (../../index.swf). With that said, after going back 2-3 folders to open the index page. The index page can no longer go FORWARD again, for some odd reason, but the pathways are correct and they work perfectly fine if I started viewing the swf project from the very beginning and go forward from there.

Perhaps I should just copy and paste everything from the defective file and onto a new file, would that help? I'm trying to narrow what this problem may be to see if these two separate projects have any issues that are related in any way shape or form. This has been buggin' the hell out of me for the past 3 weeks!

My Javascript "open Popup Window" Doesn't Work In Flash 8 Anymore? HELP?
I have the Flash MX 2004 program but recently I downloaded the Flash 8 Professional Trial to see what it has to offer.

I saved a file I was working on to Flash 8. Now my javascript to open popup windows on my website don't work anymore when the button is clicked.

Only when I save it back to my earlier version of Flash MX 2004, do my open pop up windows javascript work again on my buttons. Has anyone had this problem beside me or is there some type of new security issue I'm overlooking?

I've got a question about buttons, and color fading in on rollOver, http://www.deconcept.com those buttons are what I'd like to be able to do. However even when I make the outline a different symbol, they still snap together and the hole thing fades in and out!! Could someone give me the step by step on how to do this!

I Dont Now It Anymore, Please Help Me

I have a problem and I can’t figure it out by myself.

I made a homepage which starts with a little flash movie, so far no problem.
Then you get to a menu with frames, which I made with HTML.
In the left frame (the menu) you can choose the link diashow.
This is a new swf file I made to project some jpg pictures.

If you press the link the picture-show will be loaded in te right frame.

No problem you think, but the swf-file is not streaming.
Because of this I tried to publish the .fla as an html file and then it works perfectly, its nicely streaming.
But if I want to load the big swf file in the frame it is not streaming, it only starts when
the whole file is loaded.

This is how I imported the swf file into the html menu, I think this must be the problem:

<p><a href="Movie2.swf" target=q1><span style='color:yellow'>Diashow</span></a></p>

Please help me I tried for a couple days but I can’t get it right.

If you want to see the problem then go to my homepage, wait untill the menu is displayed, then press diashow.
You will see that the downloading starts, but the movie only starts when the downloading is fully completed.

Can't Put AS Onto Movieclips Anymore?
Hi,

I just got Flash CS3, and after having used flash a lot in the past, I'm suprised to see that I couldn't put actionscript onto a movieclip as in the past. Is this really the case, or am I just missing something? When I have the MC selected, and I go to the actions panel, it just says 'current selection cannot have actions applied to it'.

I hope this feature hasn't been removed!

Also, while experimenting with CS3's ability to copy shape tweens of objects, I realised that when I scaled an MC with a simple box primitive inside it, that the box's lined sides got massively thicker, and I'm sure this didnt happen to the same extent (if at all) in previous versions of Flash, is this the case?

Can't Open FLA Anymore
My goodness... i've got a biiiig problem!

i cant open the latest fla of my current project anymore.
the error is really strange. i start Flash CS3 Pro and try to open
the fla file and a popup appears:

"project_06.fla is already open in another window."

but it is definately NOT.
and it's no problem to open project_05.fla or any other file.

please anyone help me!

How To 'know' That The Cursor Is Not Over The Swf Anymore?
We have a php/html site with embedded swfs for header and navigation.
The navigation buttons are mcees with a button on frame 1, on mouseover the mcees plays to an 'over' state. (no news so far)
When the user moves the cursor (fast) away now, out of the swf, the button mc remains open. I've tried adding a timed checking routine on the 'over' frame to do a hitTest but that doesn't help; the _xmouse and _ymouse values aren't updated.

Anyone knows a way to get those buttons to realize that the cursor is somewhere else?

Cd-Rom Not Working Anymore

A couple of years back I've produced a CD-Rom. It is basically a main Flash movie loaded in an HTML page which, through specific buttons accessible by the user, loads HTML popup windows with some other flash contents in it.

It still works fine on a MAC OS X Safari and it works fine on a PC running XP sp2, but only using FireFox which asks to enable flash contents through this page: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04a.html

It doesn't work anymore on a PC running IE7. I'd like to stress on the fact that:
-every possible option is enabled, like running multimedia contents from cds etc. from the options in IE
-the block popups option is switched off and there is no other 3rd party software preventing popups

This is the code on the flash buttons on the main stage to load the popup windows:

I Cant Connect Anymore Why?
Hello, I am new to FMS an d for the last few days my server would connect just fine and I could use the admin console just like it was intended but now it wont let me connect! It will say login attempt to server below failed please try again. Nothing is different than what it was a couple days ago when it was working fine. I checked out the cfg file and the name and the password line up just fine. Any idea why its not letting me connect anymore??? If it helps im connecting locally to my root/applications folder. Can Only Use Certain (keyPress) Anymore?
Well I am trying to make a menu where if you press #1 or #2 it will take you to a differen't section but is there a limited number of (keyPress)'s you can do now in MX 2004? Cause there is <space>, <tab>, <up>, <down> and all those ones but can't I make my own anymore?

Not Working Anymore After Clicking Again
my site loads, navbar on the left, rest on the right. loads "home" by default. load displays dynamic text loaded from a file. everything works fine when it loads the site.

Code Not Working Anymore

I used to have this very simple code below that used to loop my movie clip x times. Im now using version 8 and its now cactus..

Since moving to V8 the code no longer works, if i downgrade the file to MX - it appears to work, but then will show the MC (as its video encoded using on2 VP6)

Not Using <OBJECT> Tag Anymore And Have Issues
I am using flash object to load in a navigation swf file because of the Microsoft patch that makes you click the flash content to make the file work.

Previously, we used the <OBJECT> tag and we had CONTROL FLASH in the HTML to make the movie go to a specific frame.

Well, now that the swf file is external the HTML can't find the flash file to control. I am trying to figure out a work around. What I need is that when the html page loads, it goes to frame 5 in the navigation swf file.

FlashPlayer Won't Play .FLV Anymore?
Recently I installed Flash Player Pro. My Flash Player started acting up so I uninstalled all my Flash Player files and reinstalled version 9.0.124.0 from Adobe's site.

Now, .FLV files saved on my hard drive I could play before no longer load. I just a get a blank player. Also, it still shows I'm running Flash Player 9.0 r45 even though I uninstalled/reinstalled.

HitTest Not Working Anymore
Hello, i'm having trouble using hitTest in a videogame.

I have 2 movieclips on "root". One is a movieclip containing my character and the other one is a movieclip containing a freeform to check collision with my character.

Everything is working ok, and collision works great. The problem arises when i try to embed ALL my game into another flash movie (to use as a game selector, and embed there several movieclips loading them). Everything works BUT the collision

Buttons Won't Work Anymore
Hello,

Excuse my ignorance but I'm very inexperienced with actionscript -
I've just been following the tutorial below and everything works well so far!!

I now want to adapt this so that my buttons can scroll down - This means they are now contained within a separate movie.

The problem I have is that the buttons don't work now.

Here is an extract of the actions on the main timeline

I've given my buttons "instance names" as instructed. Now that they are contained within a seperate movie, does the script have to direct to them?

The buttons work when they are positioned on the main stage!

FlashPlayer Won't Play .FLV Anymore?
Recently I installed Flash Player 9.0 r45 from Adobe's site. Now, .FLV files saved on my hard drive I could play before no longer load. I just a get a blank player.

Any thoughts?

CD-Rom Doesnt Work Anymore
Hi,

A couple of years back I've produced a CD-Rom. It is basically a main Flash movie loaded in an HTML page which, through specific buttons accessible by the user, loads HTML popup windows with some other flash contents in it.

It still works fine on a MAC OS X Safari and it works fine on a PC running XP sp2, but only using FireFox which asks to enable flash contents through this page: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04a.html

It doesn't work anymore on a PC running IE7. I'd like to stress on the fact that:
-this happens ONLY if the product is run from a CD-Rom. It works fine if I run it through the network or from the local hard drive
-every possible security option is switched to enable, like running multimedia contents from cds etc. from the options in IE
-the block popups option is switched off and there is no other 3rd party software preventing popups

This is the code on the flash buttons on the main stage to load the popup windows:

FlashVars Not Working In CS3 Anymore?
Ok, I'm at the end of my patience and is considering to bring ducktape, some napalm and a lot of matches to this party.

I'm using Flash CS3 on a Vista Ultimate box that has Appserv installed (PHP4, MySQL and Apache).

I am trying to send some data from a HTML file into Flash movie clip. Found the FlashVars tutorial in the Flash help file and followed it step-by-step. But it keeps on showing me undefined. Unfortunately it has to be done to be able to run in Flash 6 and higher so AS3 is out of the question.

I have made sure that I set my Publish setting to be Actionscript 2, and the Flash player to version 8. I have also done these tests using Firefox 2, IE 7, Opera 9 and Safari Beta 3. No joy. Any other ideas that works?

Jukebox Not Working Anymore?
This is kind of strange....I made this jukebox a while back and it was working fine. Now it's having two problems:

1) After song is playing if you click pause then play the song doesn't resume.

2) After song is playing click stop and then play the song doesn't start over.

I can't figure this out. I didn't change anything. Could upgrading the flash player on my pc have had any effect? I wouldn't think it would but I can't see why its not working any more. I have attached the file if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate the help.

OnMotionFinished() Not Working Anymore?
Ok, for my site i have a preloader that slides in, then it slides out once it's finished. I decided to change a couple things, now the same file with some unrelated changes is giving me syntax errors when publishing it. Heres some code:
